EVEN THE DEAD LONG FOR HOME…

They are the Lost Legions. Famed warriors in the annals of military history, made famous when they struck out for the stars to fight a Savage invasion… never to return or be heard from again.

Until new evidence is uncovered that a Lost Legion sleeps in the pocked craters of a distant mining world.

Sergeant Carson Metzger, a replacement pilot for a Republic HARD HK-PP mech unit, is sent to act as security for the science team seeking to confirm the discovery of the fabled missing legion.

But when the local miners object to the arrival of Republic forces, tensions simmer to an all-out boil. Caught in a hostile revolt and stranded from the rest of their unit, Metzger and his fellow mech jockeys must survive against overwhelming odds…

… or suffer the same fate as the Lost Legion that came before.

Jump in the cockpit and get ready to stomp through the destruction with this stand-alone tale by New York Times Bestselling Author Blaine L. Pardoe with Anspach & Cole.

I'm still mulling this one over on how I feel about. May change star rating later. Don't know. Structurally, this book is written by a pro. The prose flows so easily you fall into the story rhythm without effort. As is usually the case with a Pardoe novel the characters are one of the most enjoyable parts. Interesting people that you want to follow to the end. Keeps you turning those pages. Story premise is a buy in and the ending delivers. I liked it.
This is my first venture into the Galaxy's Edge stuff. I think my unfamiliarity with the setting may be why I'm on the fence with giving this a higher rating. I can't say with any authority if this fits the setting. It may be the setting itself that doesn't have me completely enraptured. I did love the message of hope and being able to rebuild lives and things. Like an optimistic 40k novel that doesn't end in grimdark hopelessness. There were little moments here that hit hard, remembering friends that have been impacted by war. Especially those that never came home.
Overall, liked the book. There is enough here to leave me contented and a little intrigued with further books in the series but I'm also still very hesitant as I'm not really sold on the universe yet. As a stand alone I can recommend this sci-fi war story of hope.
(Edit: Yeah I feel comfortable giving this a 4/5)

Excellent Read from a top notch Sci-Fi author, and one of the best regarding Mech combat

Mr. Pardoe has authored a truly exciting read set in the Galaxy’s Edge universe. I am a fan of his work going on 25 years or more (by may recollection of his work in the Battletech universe). Since reading the first season of GE novels, I’ve always wanted to read more about this universes mechs, and Mr. Pardoe delivers. Jason Anspach and Nick Cole did very well in recruiting him into working within their universe. Again, I can’t recommend this read enough. As an aside, I hardly ever hand out five stars—they’re reserved for works that I conider peer-worthy of the LotR, Dune, 1776, and their like.

Gimpy Plot Device Sets The Premise

“The Lost Legion (Order of the Centurion - Galaxy’s Edge)” is based on a most gimmicky and flaccid plot device to set the storyline: ‘Legion and Republic Army’ stunned that a planet centuries hostile to the Republic, inhabited by miners—human and an isolationist ET species—dig tunnels. Additionally ‘mechs’ are center stage as the original authors are apparently aging-out and this is how they elect to keep the business franchise afloat. It’s not horrible, not good either, rather the epitome of lower tier mediocrity.

Some Highlights and/or Notes on Goodreads.

good story

The combination of historical find, battle fought over the same land, and mech forces made for a very different and interesting book. It was well written and the characters well done. Also seeing how the RA characters muddled through their trauma as well as how the system made continued use of them.

Much appreciated expansion of the galaxy edge universe

A really well crafted, rollicking tale of the RA soldiers who too often only play cannon fodder in the Galaxys Edge books. Daubed with the same military detail that the previous books have to the legion, this is a fantastic addition to the universe. More of this please

must read

This is an addition to the universe a fan must read. Engaging characters with a historical backdrop. The writing is crisp and action packed with focus on proving the reader the entire battlefield story.

Amazing book

This kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading it. I enjoyed this immensely and loved how most of the threads got wrapped up by the end. Definitely want more!

Not what you'd expect

This is a gripping story with many unlikely heroes. Exciting action from a different perspective. I hadn't thought about lost legions before. The conclusion is powerful and thought provoking.

Excellent

The Lost Legion is an outstanding story of futuristic combat and of the people who have to go through it and some of the stress they have to go through afterward. It is a well written book which I highly recommend.

Great read

The galaxies edge universe is such an amazing setting. Fleshing out mech and armored warfare in this universe is very fitting. I hope to see more books like this
