Can a plot twist turn the scars of the past into a second chance at love?
My high-school crush is shooting a movie in our bookstore and I am not ready to stir up the past. Not even a little bit. Auston Buckley is the only guy I’ve ever kissed. He ditched me on the worst possible day of my life to live his dream and now he's starring in the adaptation of my favorite romance novel. Not only is he ruining this movie for me; he’s also set to ruin my summer. My friends are convinced it’s fate and are rooting for my second chance romance but I’m not ready to be the main character in that story. Yet, my big mouth lands me consulting on the film and in Auston’s trailer, where old wounds—and feelings—resurface. Despite the fortress I’ve built around my heart, it’s easy to fall into a new rhythm with Auston, especially when I fake date him to defy public opinion—yes, you read that right—and he throws me the ultimate bookish birthday party. As much as I’m determined not to be the last book in the series, resisting Auston becomes harder and harder. But can I really move on from our painful history? I am known to be extremely stubborn, after all.

Marion De Ré is a closed-door romantic comedy author. She lives in the French countryside with her husband and adorable cat. You can expect all your beloved tropes in her writing as well as a good dose of humor and all the feels. When she's not reading or writing, you can find her on a plane to a far-away destination.
The Fake Script had me invested from the first chapter and this chapter brought a tear to my eye, poor Emma. This is the final book in the One More Chapter series and features Emma and Auston and I think it might be my favourite out of the series. This second chance, fake dating reverse grumpy sunshine romance was a delight to read and the growth of Emma was heartwarming and I’m so glad she found her happy ever after. I thoroughly enjoyed this one and the whole series and would highly recommend them, yes you need to read them all! I received a complementary copy from the author.
It was a good book and a good ending to this series. These two had always been in each other's mind. Their love for the other was always there. Emma was scared to trust again and open her heart but in the end she knew there was no use, she loved him, she always had. Auston was a swoony man, no doubt. He saw Emma again and nothing was stopping him from having his second chance with her. They were very sweet and so cute, I really liked them
Can a plot twist turn the scars of the past into a second chance at love?
In The Fake Script, the final installment of Marion De Ré's One More Chapter series, readers are treated to a delightful blend of fake dating, second chances, and reverse grumpy-sunshine romance. Emma, the grumpy and guarded bookstore owner, is forced to confront her past when her teenage crush, Auston Buckley-now a charming movie star-returns to film a romcom adaptation of her favorite romance novel in her very own bookstore.
Years ago, Auston left Emma behind on one of the hardest days of her life, and she hasn't forgotten. But between her "big mouth" landing her a consulting role on the film, old feelings resurfacing in his trailer, and a fake dating arrangement born out of necessity (and defiance), Emma finds herself questioning the fortress she's built around her heart.
Emma's character arc is one of the highlights of the book. Readers finally uncover the reason behind her skepticism toward love, and it's both poignant and satisfying. Watching her growth-from her stubborn reluctance to embrace romance to rediscovering trust and vulnerability-is heartwarming. Auston, on the other hand, is the ultimate book boyfriend-sweet, thoughtful, and persistent in breaking through Emma's walls. Their banter is electric, and the chemistry is as swoony as it is endearing.
Marion De Ré expertly balances humor and heart in this story, delivering a fast-paced yet perfectly paced romance that never feels rushed. Fans of the series will also enjoy revisiting the bookstore setting and catching up with the trio of friends who've made One More Chapter such a cozy and comforting series. While this book can be read as a standalone, long-time readers will especially appreciate how Emma's journey completes the series.
The Fake Script is an easy-to-binge, closed-door romcom full of witty dialogue, heartfelt moments, and swoon-worthy romance. It's a perfect sendoff for the One More Chapter series, and although saying goodbye is bittersweet, Marion leaves readers eager for whatever comes next.
Release Date: January 10, 2025 Final Verdict: A charming and satisfying conclusion to a beloved bookish series. If you love fake dating, second chances, and opposites-attract romances, The Fake Script is a must-read!
I was a little sad for the story to end! I loved being apart of their journey and so very happy that Emma got her HEA! I’m hoping we’ll get another peak into the trios lives sometime down the road in another book! Wink wink!
So for now, we say goodbye to the Hayley, Alice, Emma and Mr. Darcy.
Thank you, Marion, for my advanced readers copy. This is my honest and voluntary opinion.
“Because hanging out with the guy who broke your heart is the definition of amusement.”
So excited to delve in to another Marion novel! They grab me from the first sentence and never disappoint! This is the third installment of the One More Chapter Bookstore series (all stand alone) containing three bookstagram friends. Yes, I’m immediately yelling “no,I don’t want it to end” but thankfully with books we can reread them!!!
This is Emma & Auston’s story…do second chances really happen after a decade? Can you forgive such a heartbreak? Auston, celebrity actor, lands another role in a romcom based on Emma’s favorite book. Auston is not aware that it’s going to be filmed in Emma’s bookstore until he runs into her. Emma is hired to work on the script to help the movie adaptation follow the novel. Side note they should really do this for movies!!! Spending so much time with Auston, add in some fake dating and Emma’s heart begins to soften and tingle! As a bookish girl I’m in love with the birthday party and bonus scene (sorry no spoilers)!!! A must read that I highly recommend!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from author. Review is based on my thoughts and opinions.
Imagine joining Bookstagram, meeting a couple of likeminded bookworms, forming a strong friendship and then the three of you open a bookshop together. Wouldn’t that be a dream come true?
This is the scenario for the One More Chapter series from Marion De Re, featuring friends Hailey, Alice and Emma. This is Emma’s story, after seeing Hailey and Alice find their happy endings, Emma is convinced she is destined never to be the FMC of her own romance. Until her first kiss arrives on her doorstep. Auston Buckley left Emma on the worst day of her young life to become a film star and now he’s filming his latest film, an adaptation of Emma’s favourite novel, at her bookstore. Emma has no wish to rake over the past and old wounds but then she’s taken on as a consultant to ensure the adaptation remains true to the beloved novel.
Emma is far more interested in book boyfriends than a real-life version, her past with Auston has hurt her and she keeps the walls around her heart tall and firm. Auston has never forgotten Emma, nobody has ever come close to gaining his heart despite the very best intentions of his co-star.
From the minute they set eyes on each other, they both remember their previous relationship but at first, neither one admits it. Then Auston is called upon to require Emma to be his fake girlfriend and they get closer and closer. It was delightful watching them rekindle their old feelings for each other despite the hurdles thrown at them. Emma was strong and determined and would not let anything come between her and her desires. Auston was equally as passionate about what he wanted and refused to be railroaded, they were the perfect balance and an equal match.
Synopsis: Emma is living her dream, by running a book store with her best friends and with her fictional book boyfriends. Until her high school crush comes back to her life, she will need to face the past.
Includes: ✨Second chance ✨Fake Dating ✨Reverse Grumpy Sunshine ✨Celebrity Romance ✨Only One Bed ✨Funny Banter ✨Bookstagrammers
🌶️Heat Level: Kissing Only Mild Innuendo Attraction/Tension:🔥🔥🔥
My Opinion: What a great way to end a series! Reverse Grumpy x Sunshine is one of my favorite tropes, and Emma and Auston are such a cute and fun couple. Emma is very confident and snarky (which I love), and Auston is a goofy cinnamon roll. I loved their story together, the past, the emotions and every aspect of the movie backstage. Emma is living every bookworm’s dream, and I appreciate once again the love Marion’s shows the community in this series. I love the couple’s tension, the narrative and how this story feels very light and sweet. It’s hard to make me like second chances, but this one was very cute and fun to read.
This series has been such a fun one to me. It's about a trio of bookstagrammers who open a bookshop together. I'm sad to see this series end, but so excited for what's to come from Marion De Re!
This one features Emma. There have been hints about her in the other books. But I would never have guessed all of the things that had happened to her in her life. Knowing the hard things she went through, made a lot of how she was make more sense. But I also loved watching how she changed throughout this story. I wish I knew Emma in real life!
Auston is a great guy. I loved how he had known Emma before he became a big time movie star. And how he was willing to do pretty much anything for her. The birthday party he planned was one of my very favorite scenes. You definitely need to read it yourself to see why!
I loved this series so much. It gets all the heart eyes from me!
Marion de Re is an amazing author who continues to get better with every book she writes. I didn’t think her books could be more amazing, until I read The Fake Script. This book is her best book yet! I can’t wait for her next books, since I have a feeling this author will only get better. I really loved The Fake Script and can already tell it will be one of my favorites of the year.
Oh my heart!!! Can I just tell you how much I loved and adored this book. And how much it brought on all of the emotions. Like a roller coaster of emotions. But it was so worth feeling them! I have been so excited to read Emma's story since we first started to get to know her back in book one. And let me tell you that I was not disappointed at all!!! It more than exceed my expectations and left me wishing that there were more books to come in this trilogy, but alas, this is the end. But what an ending! And what a series!!! I loved these three friends who took a leap and trusted each other and created a business together. And not just any business, but one that followed their hearts and dreams!
And Emma's story! Oh my heart!!! Let's just say that I shed some tears in that first chapter, and in other chapters as well! I just couldn't help myself. My heart ached for her and all that happened. But I loved watching her find healing and joy in her life again, in this book but also throughout the other two books.
Emma is a wonderful character! Auston as well! I loved their friendship to "not knowing" each other, to friends, to more! I was honestly just so, so happy!!! You're going to love this sweet HEA and the journey that is gone on to get there! *Happy Sigh*
I think this one is my favorite in the trilogy so far. Partially due to Emma and Auston's story, but also due to the fact that we still get to see these three friends and where they are at now. I wouldn't complain if Marion De Re ever decides to add more to this story! *Hint, Hint*
Content: Clean. Some sweet kisses but nothing further.
I received a copy from the author through Victory Editing NetGalley coop, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions the book are my own.
ARC Book Review The Fake Script A Novel Written By Marion De Re’ Fiction - Romance Published January 2024 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is the third and final book in the author’s One More Chapter Series. Marion De Re’ wrote this series as a tribute to Bookstagram and Bookstagrammers. I have enjoyed reading all three books in the series. Each book in the series focuses on one of the three female book lovers who met on Bookstagram and opened a book store together in Brooklyn. Book lovers will love all the book lingo in these books. The books are sweet closed door romances.
The Fake Script is Emma’s chance for love. She gets a second chance at romance when she is reunited with her high school crush, Auston Buckley. Auston is a popular actor filming a movie in her bookstore. Just as she tutored Auston in high school, Emma is hired as a consultant to the movie to prepare him for his role. Can these two find love again ten years later?
“Over the span of three weeks, Auston Buckley has turned me into the heroine of a romance novel, and I’m not sure how to get out of it. Or if I even want to.”
Absolutely loved this story. I was hooked from the start. Emma and Auston’s story was amazing. in this story you can find the following tropes: ✅ Fake Dating ✅ Second Chance ✅ Reverse Grumpy Sunshine This is a closed door romance with no spice and it’s so well written. I love Marion de Ré and her writing and the more she writes the more I want to read her books. I rate this story 4 Stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Before I begin, I would like to thank Marion De Ré for allowing me to read her upcoming book, The Fake Script, which is the third book of her One More Chapter series and will be available on Amazon on January 10th, 2025.
Emma has to see her high school crush shooting a movie in the bookstore she owns with her friends. He’s the only guy she’s ever kissed, and she’s stuck seeing him all summer. Her friends think this is the perfect opportunity for Emma’s second-chance romance, and it doesn’t help when Emma finds herself as the consultant for the film adaptation of her favorite romance novel. Spending time with Auston means that her pain from the past and old feelings start to reappear as they work together on perfecting the script. Throw in fake dating to appease public opinion, and Emma’s heart might not stand the chance. Can Emma allow herself to be friends with Auston, and perhaps something more, or will she shut him down completely?
I loved this book. You have Emma, a grumpy, sassy, intelligent, honest, and beautiful young woman that believes romance should stay in fiction novels (with a few exceptions) and loves her friends and running their closed-door romance bookstore. You have Auston, a talented, kind, thoughtful, and handsome young actor who is tired of starring in romance movies and wants to take on films with more serious themes. I loved the idea of filming in a bookstore and seeing familiar faces from the previous two books of the series. Mr. Darcy was adorable, and I thought it was funny how quickly Emma’s friends started shipping her and Auston together. The interactions with the main characters were often funny, sweet, and honest. I appreciated the lengths Auston took to make amends with Emma and her willingness to work with him on the film. Overall, if you like great humor, fantastic found family dynamics, bookish tropes, bookstores, cute cats, and sweet reverse grumpy x sunshine / actor x small business owner small-town romance, then I would highly recommend this book. Thank you to the author @marionderewrites for the #gifted eARC.
Marion De Re’s The Fake Script delivers a delightful cocktail of humor, charm, and swoon-worthy romance, wrapped in a refreshingly unique twist on beloved romance tropes. This book is a must-read for fans of celebrity romances and playful fake dating dynamics, and it offers a standout reverse grumpy/sunshine pairing that flips the usual dynamic on its head.
Our fierce and guarded heroine (the grump) takes center stage as she navigates a second chance romance filled with sparkling tension and witty banter. The chemistry between the main characters feels organic and electric, their fake relationship brimming with moments that will make readers sigh, laugh, and fall hopelessly in love. Adding to the tension are classic tropes like the one bed scenario, executed here with charm and humor, all while maintaining a closed-door romance style that never sacrifices emotional depth.
For Bookstagram enthusiasts, this novel offers delightful nods to the social media community, including clever references that feel like love letters to readers who spend their days lost in books and their nights reviewing them. The meta moments and playful literary Easter eggs will leave any book lover grinning.
One of the most memorable personal touches was seeing my own name worked into the story. The anticipation of finding that one perfect moment where my name appeared added a unique thrill, and when I finally reached it—“I frantically drag my fingertip along the spines looking for a series of books by McKenna”—I couldn’t help but beam with joy. It was a fun, heartwarming surprise that made this book feel like a special, personalized gift.
Overall, The Fake Script is a charming, clever romcom brimming with heart. Its seamless blend of humor, warmth, and tropes done right makes it an instant favorite. Fans of romantic comedies will devour this one with a smile from start to finish.
Ten years ago, Auston and Emma were at the very tender beginnings of a relationship, but one night changed everything. Emma’s parents were in an accident that took their lives, and the next day, instead of being able to comfort Emma, Auston has to leave town, as he’s just gotten a part in a sitcom.
He could have called during those ten years, but he didn’t. And Emma was too busy putting her life back together, but her sunny outlook is gone, with only clouds remaining.
Now a movie is being shot in the bookstore No Shelf Control that she owns with her friends Alice and Hayley, and guess who’s the lead actor? Yep. It’s Auston. And the roller coaster ride begins!
I love this book for many reasons, not the least of which is the characters talking A LOT about book romance tropes (I, too, am not fond of the miscommunication trope). Though Auston is not a “book person” per se, he can’t help but absorb all of the knowledge Emma is imparting.
And there is a point in the book where I almost got angry, where a trope that I abhor looks as if it’s about to be put into action. But fear not, because the author doesn’t do her audience dirty like that. What she did do was so refreshing that I cheered aloud.
I’m also a sucker for the “it was always you” trope, and this book has it in spades, so I read it in one sitting. I just couldn’t put it down. Another excellent story by Marion De Ré, and though I’m sad this particular series is finished, I know there’s so much more ahead. Maybe there will be a series about a coffee shop and some hockey players, yeah? (I’m pretty sure that’s the way things are headed.)
In short, I love books about bookish people, and this trio of stories really hits the spot for me. I think, though, that Emma’s story is my favorite, and I don’t choose favorites lightly. Now go read it!

𝐒𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: New York 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬: Emma is 26 years old and is one of the 3 owners of the No Shelf Control bookstore. Her parents died when she was 16, she lived with her grandmother for a year before she too passed putting Emma into the foster care system. Auston is Emma's childhood crush. She was tutoring him right before his "big break" in the industry. He broke her heart when he left right after her parents passed and didn't keep in touch. She became jaded, he became famous. They meet again when a movie was being filmed in the bookstore.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐋𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐝: • The way Auston took care of Emma when she was sick • LOVED the birthday party • LOVED that there wasn't a 3rd act break-up! • The way that they responded to Madison's media schemes and appreciate how Emma didn't fall victim to them! • Comfy Couch Chic (finally a name for my style) • The Beach scene when she kept calling "cut" • The End was perfect! I adored the Special Edition book that Auston had made!
𝐀𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: I absolutely adored this book! It is Book 3 of the One More Chapter series and is my absolute favorite of the series! I really enjoyed getting to know Emma and learning more about her past. Auston is perfect for her! He is the perfect book boyfriend. The way he brought her into the movie crew just to spend more time with her, I knew she didn't stand a chance! The side characters were a lot of fun. Madison was annoying, I was so happy that karma got her in the end with her shadiness. I am glad that Auston's mom truly wanted him to be happy and not use him for his fame/fortune.
Thank you to @marionderewrites for the gifted copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
🎥 I love a black cat girly who’s all fuzzy on the inside even before the outer shell is broken
I love how both Emma and Auston both acted like they don’t know each other when they Auston first came on set. It was funny reading it in two different POVs. Marion did a good job making us think like they didn’t care about each other. Once you read the‘s POV you see that they’re both still smitten over each other
I know I keep saying that each book is my favorite, but the more I read newer books of hers the more I like them even more than the ones before
Honestly, if Emma were to have another love story with another guy I don’t think I would’ve liked the book. I really liked the fact that it was a second chance book, even though it’s not one of my favourite tropes, but I felt like it fit perfectly. She just needed that one person to bring her back, to ground her, to bring back all these memories, to remind her that she is worth loving, and to give her everything she ever wanted
It was such a great read because he just knew her like the back of his hand. She thought he doesn’t remember her, and she meant nothing to him in the past when in fact, she meant the whole world to him and he hasn’t gotten over her since
I’m really happy that history did not repeat itself even though the circumstances were different. He actually chose her first. He chose her before an opportunity that he had been waiting for, for so long. He just put her first and I actually respect that so much
He broke down her walls and she let him. I love that so much
There’s just something about Marion’s books that makes them all comfort reads. There’s something in her writing style that makes you want to keep reading and then before you know it, the book ended. I will honestly start a petition to have more chapters or make her books longer. I just can’t have enough of them
"I guess my friends were right. I am the third book in the series. And I’ve never been so happy to get to the last page. Although, I wouldn’t say no to a glimpse at the extended epilogue, because I have a feeling there are more kisses, laughs, and butterflies involved."
This was definitely my favorite book in the series. Not only was it an amazing ending (with a spin-off series coming!), but there was such a natural quality on the relationship between Auston and Emma in this story that I really enjoyed. I love a good second chance romance, but this story required my patience!
Auston left to start his career as a teenage actor at the worst possible time....right after Emma lost her parents. They would both always be the one who got away for 10 years until Emma's bookstore becomes the backdrop for Auston's new movie. He knows immediately he wants to be back in her life, but grumpy Emma is not letting him near with a 10 foot pole. Auston is the perfect gentleman, a true cinnamon roll MMC, who steadily proves himself until Emma doesn't want to fight what she really wants.
I love stories where he takes care of her, and I also dig a beautiful grand gesture. In this story, I loved that the grand gesture wasn't necessarily an apology or a fix, but an affirmation of feelings and a revelation. It truly was such a sweet story, and anyone who loves books like I do will particularly love all the bookish content discussed throughout.
The Fake Script is Book Three in the One More Chapter series. I received a complimentary copy of the author's story to read and review. All thoughts contained here are my own.
This is the third book in this series and I must admit I was looking forward to Emma's story and this book was definitely more than I expected. Emma lost her parents to a car accident and at the same time her high-school crush Auston gets his big chance at acting and leaves. Now ten years later she has two fantastic friends and co owns a book store, her life is running smoothly. When they are approached by a film studio wanting to rent their store its seems to good to be true. But it is true and on top of that it's her favourite book Velvet Kisses. But then she sees who has been cast as lead male non other than Auston Buckley, No No No not after all this time. Auston takes his job seriously although he'd love a chance to be in a serious film for a change instead of rom coms, but hopefully that will come. On set and he can't believe his eyes in the crowd is non other than Emma the girl who is constantly in his dreams and heart ten years after he walked away and left her behind. Can he hope for forgiveness or will she even remember him. This story totally sums up rom com books with the perfect amount of tropes and justkeeps you turning page after page. Emma's birthday party is just so perfect I think all book lovers would love a party like that. In fact if I'm honest there's nothing I can say negative about this book other than it ended. Marion has surpassed all my expectations with this book and I can't wait for the next in this series. I'll have my supplies of coffee and kit-kats ready ❤️📚❤️
This is a delightful, closed-door, fake dating romcom that combines the charm of second-chance romance with the cozy appeal of bookish adventures.
Emma has never quite gotten over her high school crush, Auston Buckley. He is now a famous movie star and re-enters her life when he starts filming his next movie, which is an adaptation of her favorite book, in her bookstore. Emma is hired to help with the script, which somehow leads to a fake dating arrangement to stoke public interest, and to help Auston out of a tight spot. This new arrangement doesn't make it easy on Emma. Years ago, Auston broke her heart, abandoning her at a critical moment in her life to pursue his dreams. Now, as adults, they are forced to confront their unresolved feelings and the painful memories that linger.
As they spend more time together, their interactions shift from awkward and reluctant to warm and heartfelt. Their chemistry builds gradually, making it realistic and believable, even as Emma battles her own internal conflict. She’s determined not to be the same girl from all those years ago and fall back in love with him, yet Auston’s efforts to win her back make it increasingly difficult for her to resist.
The story has a good balance of lighthearted moments and emotional depth. It is a heartwarming, slow-burn romance with the perfect mix of witty banter, palpable tension, and genuine moments of vulnerability.
My thanks to the author for providing a complimentary copy. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Emma is a self-professed nerd who is happier spending the evening curled up with her Kindle or a book than spending the night on the town. When she learns that her high school crush, Auston Buckley, is going to be in town filming his newest blockbuster, she wants to hide away in a closet somewhere. Austin kissed her one night and left the next. He broke her heart. The only relationship she cares anything about is living vicariously through the characters in her latest book.
Austin is a hugely successful movie star and Hollywood heartthrob, who even though he is successful, has his own set of problems. When he meets Emma for the first time in her bookstore (which is now the movie set), he does not seem to recognize her. Once the recognition sets in, the story will change completely.
It did not take me long to figure out even though Auston owned the title of sexiest man alive, he was a still big old teddy bear. He was a big star, but he acted just like everyone else. He was just so huggable.
Austin learns that the Emma he left behind all those years ago is gone. She is much sassier and has no problem speaking her mind, but he likes this new version. She grabbed my heart as well, especially once I learned her story.
As always this author never fails to make me laugh and cry. There is a lot of emotion sewed up in this story as you learn more about Emma and Auston's pasts. The ending is superb. This is a must read for lovers of clean romance.
Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was such a great read! I love Marion De Re’s writing and she has not disappointed with this final installment of the One More Chapter series.
Emma is a grumpy bookseller who has sworn off love after having her heart broken in high school. Auston is the actor who broke Emma’s heart when he left to pursue his dreams in Hollywood. When they are reunited on the set of Auston’s latest movie, they both have to face their feelings, even though they’re both pretending they’ve never met. When outside forces threaten to upset the delicate balance they have in place, there seems to be no other option than to fake a relationship to appease the public.
I could relate so much to Emma. She was so closed off after heartbreak, never seeing herself as a main character in her own story. It was empowering to watch her take her life back with the help of Auston and her friends, and to choose love. I love a good redemption story and so many of the characters redeem themselves. No spoilers, but it’s so good to see people come together instead of becoming more divided after one or both do wrong by the other.
If you love any of the following tropes, you’ll love The Fake Script:
Second Chance Fake Dating Celebrity Grumpy/Sunshine and/or Black Cat/Golden Retriever Slow Burn Closed Door Romance
This was the perfect ending to a great trilogy. It’s sad to bid farewell to No Shelf Control and the women who run it, but I’m hoping it’s not the last we see of it with a new series coming our way!
Second chance romances have my heart. Marion De Re’s latest addition to her One More Chapter series, The Fake Script, is a beautiful second chance romance. I adored this book from all the bookish references to the fake dating to fabulous female friendships to the bookish birthday party. It was such a fun read and had me smiling throughout the whole story. The story focuses on Emma, who owns a sweet romance bookstore with her two best friends. When they are approached to rent out their bookstore for movie adaptation of their favorite book, they jump at the chance. Unfortunately for Emma, the leading man was her high school crush Auston who she never really got over. When Emma gets hired on to consult for the movie, she and Auston spend more and more time together. The story that follows is full of heart, hope, romance, love, and all things bookish. I loved both Emma and Auston, especially all the references to their past friendship. Their romance was second chance, but I loved how light it felt—it wasn’t angsty at all. I thought the balance between the past and present was beautifully done. Things to love: -second chance romance -sweet romance bookstore -fabulous friends -fake dating -reverse grumpy-sunshine -he takes care of her -the bookish themed birthday party -slow burn -banter and swoony kisses I adored this sweet story. It was the perfect addition to this series. Auston and Emma were so cute together. I can’t wait for Mari and Beth’s stories. TW: Loss of both parents in the past
I adored this book, it was just as good as I had hoped. The Fake Script is the third book in Marion De Re’s One More Chapter series and it was a much anticipated book. Emma deserved her happy ending and Auston was the sweetest. I really liked Emma and getting to know more about her story. She was kind of a group at times but she had her reasons. Emma was snarky but sweet and dearly loved her friends. It was cool to see her open up to Auston. Auston was a lot of fun and he had fallen hard for Emma. He always regretted leaving her and it was sweet to read about his interactions with her. The romance was fun especially because they had history. I liked their easy interactions and the way that they trusted each other. It was cool to see a fake relationship where both characters seemed to know what they were doing. The side characters really added to the story and I liked Auston’s bodyguard and assistant. This was a cute read and I would definitely recommend it! I was drawn into the story and ended up finishing the book quickly. I am excited to see what else De Re will write. The Fake Script is a closed door romantic comedy.
Book Highlights: He falls first Second chance romance Celebrity romance Black cat/golden retriever He takes care of her
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.
The Fake Script is the third and final book in the One More Chapter series. While you might have a bit of a better understanding on the friendship dynamics if you've read the previous books in the series, this could absolutely be enjoyed as a standalone with no problem as well.
Oh my goodness, this series! While I am sad to see it come to an end, it definitely ended on a high note with this one. While I have loved every single book in the series, this one might just be my new favorite--- fake dating with a famous movie star... who also happens to be her first love!? Honestly, what could be better than that? I've really enjoyed Emma's character throughout the series and was definitely excited to get to her story. As we learn more about her history, I couldn't help but root for her to get her happily ever after even more. Auston and Emma had such a wonderful chemistry between them. He was such a sweetheart, impossible not to fall in love with as the story goes on. That birthday party!? Talk about the way to a bookish girl's heart! This book (and series as a whole) has been such a fantastic love letter to the Bookstagram community and truly has been such a joy to read! Definitely a must for all the romance loving bookish girls!
The Fake Script is a closed-door romance with kisses only. It does have very minimal, minor language as well.

After the last novel, The Enemy Plot, we learned that the movie adaptation of the girls’ favorite book, Velvet Kisses, was going to be filmed in their bookstore. And it was going to star Emma’s high school crush, and the only boy who ever had her heart and broke it- Auston. Emma is known to be the grumpy one of the three and it doesn’t help matters when she keeps “correcting” the adaptation, which leads to Auston getting her hired as a consultant. But he doesn’t remember her right? That’s what Emma convinced herself of until the tabloids got ahold of her and Auston’s high school yearbook photos. So what would any heroine of a romance novel do? Start a fake relationship. This can’t have any consequences. Absolutely none.
I loved this one (and not just because my name is Emma and I tended to relate a lot to her in the book). The breaking ish of the fourth wall was great too. I can’t wait for the next one!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5
“It smells like forever- my forever. And there’s no one else I’d rather have as my co-star in this movie.”

A romcom book with celebrity romance that features reverse grumpy x sunshine and second chance romance. This is the third and final book in the One More Chapter series. Emma rekindles with her high school crush, Auston, who left to follow his dreams ten years ago and broke her heart.
This book started well, but certain elements made me not enjoy it after a bit. The one main element was the FMC, Emma. Emma was cool at first. She's a book girlie that's been hurt in the past so she built a barrier to protect herself. I felt for her as I could understand her isolation as something familiar. However, as the story continues, Emma constantly refers to herself as "not like other girls." After a while, it got annoying and came off as attention-seeking (everyone knows about the whole pick-me-girl disagreement.) On top of this, while it had a cutesy and wholesome ending, the book was bland. Nothing major happens, nothing intriguing, nothing to grab my attention throughout the book.
Perhaps if I had been invested in the series and read the two previous books I might've been more into it. However, the book follows the last roommate, Emma, and her road to love. It's a connected book, but by all means, you should be able to read it as a standalone. Unfortunately, this book ultimately wasn't memorable to me.
De Re writes the absolute best feel good and delightful books! This particular book (along with the two other books in this series) are a bookish girls dream. She makes the book so fun managing to fit in (and identify!) as many wonderful tropes as possible. She definitely covers quite a few in the story between Emma and Auston.
Emma and Auston share a history all the way back to high school. Emma’s life fell apart and Auston went to make himself a name as a celebrity. Years later both are reunited during a Auston’s movie filming using Emma’s (and her friends) bookstore. While both still have feelings for one another, Emma has built some very high walls around herself since the day Auston left. However, Auston knows he wants Emma back, he just has to figure out how to break down those walls and make a real connection once again.
Auston is charming, thoughtful and always a gentleman. He is worthy of the book boyfriend title. Emma is strong, confident and a bookish girl through and through. Auston and Emma are perfectly paired! Emma is passionate about books and Auston is passionate about movies. Together they learn to appreciate each other’s interest and while doing so they learn so much about the other and their feelings.
I truly enjoyed reading this book! I have loved the series from the beginning. De Re brings in so many wonderful tropes, creates lovable characters and sweet stories with perfect happy ever afters. Make sure to give it a read!!
The Fake Script is book 3 in the One More Chapter series and it can read entirely fine as a standalone (but readers of the series will truly appreciate this conclusion and Emma's story). As with all the books in this series this is a love letter to bookstagram. It was such a fun, fast paced, easy and light read. In true Marion style she is able to merge some harder topics but not make them feel too heavy and keep the rom com aspect. She delivers humour as well as heart to create a perfect balance. There are so many super sweet moments in this book it had my heart melting. The storyline was fun to follow with the movie star trope, I really enjoyed that.
I loved Auston, he was so swoony, the way he took care of Emma when she was sick 🥹 Book boyfriend goals! I really adored the maturity of their relationship. The way they communicated and the way they didn't fall victim to other people trying to ruin their relationship. I absolutely adored Emma's growth in this novel and how she came out of her shell, gave love another chance. Their banter, their chemistry and the way their relationship evolved was just perfect.
Overall, the One More Chapter series is a cozy, comforting and fun series that just feels like a warm hug every time. The series definitely ends on a high note and it sets up things nicely for the New York Raptors series !
