5/5 🐸’s
Just a fucking lovely story of a couple that will do anything for their child, including waging a dream war against orcs wearing trashbags and a giant cobra throat thing.
Somehow having DWJ’s art beside Riley Rossmo’s makes me love DDubs work even more. Rossmo is no slouch either. Wonderful, wonderful stuff.

As I suspected, issue #1 was an appetizer and “The Moon Is Following Us #2” is the beginning of the main course! I was initially a little fuzzy on the details of the plot (for example, the Cascade isn’t the name of the dream realm, it’s the name of the enemy forces) but this issue very elegantly fills in the backstory without coming across as a big ol’ exposition dump. And it’s SO emotional! Daniel Warren Johnson gets a lot of attention for his art (deservedly so) but he’s an exceptional (and exceptionally underrated) writer; “The Moon Is Following Us” perfectly balances insanely creative world-building with more grounded melodrama. How can one dude be so talented? This issue also gives Riley Rossmo a little more runway in depicting Penny’s dream world and, man, he makes use of every nook and cranny in every panel. Beautiful, beautiful work.

#2 - "Psychosis, paralysis, insomnia.. but never waking? It's new ground."
'The Moon Is Following Us' is a beautifully illustrated and heartfelt graphic novel that tells the story of parents on a journey through a strange and magical world after everything they knew has fallen apart. This book shows how powerful the bond between parent and child can be—even in the middle of chaos. It’s a story that’s easy to follow but full of deep emotions involving action, imagination, and stories that come straight from the heart.

OOh, wow, this grabbed me. It is fast, intense, and devastating. The desperation and helplessness of Duncan and Sam is real, the insanity of their entrance into the dreamworld beautifully illustrated.

I just expect this from DWJ at this point, but man this is going to be a heartbreaker. How he and Rossmo trade off art duties is really inventive and works super well.

Some more explanation as to where this is all leading.

Consistent writing and art make for a great second issue.
