KELLY THOMPSON has a degree in Sequential Art from The Savannah College of Art & Design. Her love of comics and superheroes have compelled her since she first discovered them as a teenager. Currently living in Portland, Oregon with her boyfriend and the two brilliant cats that run their lives, you can find Kelly all over the Internet where she is generally well liked, except where she's detested.

Kelly has published two novels - THE GIRL WHO WOULD BE KING (2012) and STORYKILLER (2014) and the graphic novel HEART IN A BOX from Dark Horse Comics (2015). She's currently writing ROGUE & GAMBIT, HAWKEYE, and PHASMA for Marvel Comics and GHOSTBUSTERS for IDW. Other major credits include: A-Force, Captain Marvel & The Carol Corps, Jem and The Holograms, Misfits, Power Rangers Pink, and the creator-owned mini-series Mega Princess.

Kelly's ambitions are eclipsed only by her desire to exist entirely in pajamas. Fortunately pajamas and writers go hand in hand (most of the time). Please buy all her stuff so that she can buy (and wear) more pajamas.

Scarlett By Kelly Thompson And Marco Ferrari Is A Must Read Story In This New Era Of G.I. Joe

This review is for issues #1 thru 5 of the Scarlett miniseries by Kelly Thompson and Marco Ferrari. I will try to avoid any spoilers in my review. Scarlett is a high octane miniseries! From the opening page all the way to the last page in issue #5, Kelly Thompson does not take her foot off of the accelerator here.

This series is just as action-packed as Duke was. And there are quips and jokes galore in this story. I'm acquainted with Miss Thompson's other stories such as Black Widow, Absolute Wonder Woman, Birds of Prey, Captain Marvel, etc etc. And I enjoyed all of them very much (Absolute Wonder Woman and Birds of Prey are still ongoing).

So I knew this was going to be an awesome story and I'm very happy to say that I wasn't disappointed in my assumption. The artist on this story is a man named Marco Ferrari. His artwork style definitely suits this story. I enjoyed his artwork very much.

Scarlett also happens to feature the introduction of the Ninjas and the Arashikage Clan to this new G.I. Joe story. So far each miniseries has focused on one separate corner of the G.I. Joe mythology at a time slowly building up this new mythology. Duke was a G.I. Joe story. Cobra Commander was about Cobra, of course.

And Scarlett is about the Arashikage. I wonder what Destro will focus on 🤔? Now some long time G. I. Joe fans may get upset that Scarlett has been added to the Arashikage's story but I think she fits perfectly with them. Plus, it also kind of fits her character because going back to the cartoon from the '80s she always had a connection with Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, and Jinx like a secret history between them that was alluded to but never fully fleshed out.

Well, that's no longer the case. Her connection is fully fleshed out in this story. The only thing that I was a little disappointed with was the fact that Snake Eyes does not show up in this story. Storm Shadow is here.

And Jinx. Even their leader, Hard Master, is in it. But Snake Eyes is nowhere to be seen. I don't understand why they're holding him back.

And, from what I've seen, he's not even a part of the main G. I. Joe team. So the question is where's Snake Eyes? How can you have Storm Shadow and not Snake Eyes? Or even Jinx?

And there are a couple of major deviations from G. I. Joe canon in this story that may or may not upset long time fans. Also, there's a twist at the very end that will shock long time fans. It shocked me because it's a major deviation involving Storm Shadow and Hard Master. Even Scarlett was shocked to see Storm Shadow do the opposite of what she thought he would.

In the regular canon, Storm Shadow kills Hard Master. *Spoiler Alert* That is not the case here - Hard Master lives. And Storm Shadow has a new weapon that he doesn't have in the regular canon - *Spoiler Alert* a sword imbued with Energon. But, even with all these little changes, this is still an amazing story 🙂👍! Every G. I. Joe fan needs to pick this up and check it out!

Or, even if you're not a fan, pick this comic up and get ready to take an action-packed ride that won't let up until the very last page has been turned.

Yo, Joe 🙂✌!!!!

Great closing chapter for this storyline to package it up and deliver it into the main title next month. It landed right where it logically needed to go, which was just fine with me. Really enjoyed this mini series

Thompson's best work to date, though her work on Powerpuff Girls rivals it IMO.
