This was an absolutely adorable book. A high energy Border Collie keeps getting returned to the shelter. He has endured a lot in his short life. Until finally he meets what could be his forever home due to pure chance- through being involved in a car accident.
This was a very cute love story. No spice really, but a few hints at it. The story was centered around 2 people who met through chance circumstances and the Border Collie plays a big role in that.
A few of the chapters are even told from the Border Collie’s point of view, which I loved! I also loved how well his personality was captured. As a Border Collie mom, they are so highly intelligent and so high anxiety like this book described.
This is a little long for a love story, but I think it’s a great read especially if you are a dog lover or have ever had a Border Collie.

Anyone who has read my reviews for any length of time knows that I am a long-time dog mama who is a sucker for a good doggie story. I just love them and can’t get enough of them. I’m also a devoted dog mama of rescue dogs; almost all of my fur babies have been rescued doggies with just a few exceptions that were from a litter of a friend’s/relative’s/neighbor’s dog. Anyway, as soon as I came across this one, I just knew I had to read it.
The book summary basically lays out how the story started. What the book summary doesn’t say is that Jake was attracted to Jenna from the moment he laid eyes on her - before the accident where he rescues her and Seven. The accident just cemented the connection. However, the moment that Jake decided not to return Seven to the shelter, was the moment he became good people in my book. This is not a spoiler since it’s basically how the story started.
There is a secondary storyline (and why Jenna was returning Seven when the accident happened) and that is that Jenna’s younger sister, Monica, who is married, with two kids and one on the way, is faced with a medical scare. Monica and her husband, Stuart, just can’t handle having an out-of-control dog in the house along with everything else. Several years earlier, their mother died of breast cancer, and shortly afterwards, both Jenna and Monica got tested for the gene; Monica tested positive and Jenna tested negative. Jenna is obsessed with getting cancer and dying early like their mother and Jenna is basically her emotional support person (don’t even get me started on Stuart).
Most of the story revolves around Jake fostering Seven. One of the primary reasons that Seven was always returned before was because he is high energy and has absolutely no manners or training. It soon becomes clear that Seven was most likely abused too. So, in an effort to improve Seven’s chances at getting adopted and not returned, Jake is determined to train him and teach him to trust again and learn that not everyone means him harm. Since Jake lives in a small condo with no yard, Jenna offers her yard as a place where Jake can use to train Seven. They also live in the same neighborhood and are basically only a few minutes’ drive from each other. Lol, how convenient!
The character development for Jenna and Jake was well done. I would have liked to see more of the relationship between Monica and Jenna. LOVED SEVEN!!! The best character in the story and definitely the one who developed the most. I’m going to leave it there. The pacing was kind of slow, but not so slow that I ever got bored or anything like that. The primary storyline was interesting to me, and once again, there was not much development on the secondary storyline. The writing was good and kept me guessing on how Burns would end the story and chose to go with a tear-jerking scene. I’m looking at an overall rating of 3.9 that I will be rounding up to a 4star review. I want to thank NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for sending me this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

This story revolves, to some extent, around and about a dog, a Border Collie who has lived in many homes with many different families - all of which returned him to the shelter, only to be ‘tried on’ by one family after another when they find him a bit too difficult to handle, and Jenna’s sister asks her to take him back to the shelter which Jenna is somewhat reluctant to do. On her way, she is hit by another car, and ends up in an ambulance, when the man who was behind her comes to check on her, and she asks him to take care of the dog.
This is a love story, or rather two love stories, if you count the love that is extended to the dog, now named Seven, as that is the seventh time he would have ended up in the shelter, but he is determined to at least foster him, hoping that he could help the dog have a little faith and trust in him.
A sweet story with a lot of charm.

Jenna has had her share of heartache. Jenna’s younger sister, Monica, who is married, with two kids and one on the way, is in the throws of a medical scare. She is the one who is trying to bond with Seven. The dog just becomes too much for her and she decides to surrender the dog. Neither Jake nor Jenna is looking for any kind of relationship, but it seems that’s all they can think about. HOME IS WHERE YOUR BARK IS is the perfect way to spend the afternoon, on your couch with your favorite beverage. Soon, you will be falling in love with Seven and the people in this heartwarming and sweet story. Will Jenna and Jake ever be able to heal their broken hearts and move on from their painful pasts? Having two border collies of my own, I couldn’t resist reading this book. I loved this book because I could relate so much to this book and it was spot on when it comes to how border collies are. Yes, they are high-energy dogs being that they are working dogs, and if they are not exercised enough they become bored and with boredom comes destruction. (Memories 😂)
This was an adorable book with an adorable cover and yes it was predictable, but that didn’t take anything away from me loving this book.

Super sweet book! Jake is involved in car crash and feels an instant connection with the woman in one of the other vehicles. She is taken to the hospital and he agrees to take care of her dog, which she was returning to the kennel for her sister. The dog is a high energy border collie who had been adopted and returned many times, and there was almost no hope for him. However, Jake takes on the dog, seeing the glimpse of intelligence behind the resistant manner. He and Jenna continue on their journey toward love, while teaching an abused dog what love is. Great book for dog lovers. I would re-read this one.

I must admit, whenever I come across a book featuring a dog as one of the main characters, I am immediately captivated. While I typically steer clear of romance novels, this particular book is more of a heartwarming read perfect for a lazy day.
Having fostered numerous dogs with behavioral issues in the past, I understand the importance of patience and dedication in helping them find their forever homes. This book brought back memories of my past foster dogs, blending their stories into a heartwarming narrative.
The fast-paced plot of this book, coupled with a satisfying conclusion, kept me engaged from the very first chapter. I found myself rooting for the characters and eagerly anticipating a happy ending for all involved.
If you have a soft spot for dogs, especially Border Collies portrayed as book characters, this is a must-read for you. The underlying message of the book is both poignant and impactful, leaving a lasting impression on the reader.
I thoroughly enjoyed this delightful winter read and highly recommend adding it to your reading list. There's nothing quite like a feel-good book with a happy ending to lift your spirits.

OMG!! I loved this book, I'm a sucker for rescue dog stories. This book is about a dog that has passed through several shelters and having people give up on him until he meets Jake. I have a rescue dog of my own that had been in several shelters before his forever home with me and I just fell in love this story of Jake, Jenna and Seven.

I loved this book. Being a dog lover and a volunteer for loved this book. Being a dog lover and a volunteer for a nationwide rescue made me understand a bit better why Seven had been in so many foster homes. This book is a love story, well actually two love stories. It shows the bond that man can have with a dog. A strong and amazing bond. Jake and Jenna are taking things slow in their relationship. I found that this book was a feel good book and had me laughing at times at the things that Seven did!

I grabbed this one on impulse when I saw it on the library website. I love dogs and it seemed like a fun read. I adored the romance between the foster dog and the man who took him in. The romance between the man and the woman seemed a bit superfluous. :) It also proceeded at quite an alarming rate, but I guess there were exigent circumstances. Seven's story was sad and also wonderful. The tears mentioned in the tags were happy ones at the end. This is a tame romance with passionate kissing the only action.

i like the concept of the book but execution lack a wee bit of spark especially between the characters, the dog felt more interesting than the characters if i have to be honest. the book also ended a little abruptly without any epilogue.

This novel was a delight and a challenge to read – both relating to the history and antics of a feisty Border Collie named Seven. The high energy and intelligence associated with this breed are well portrayed as Seven responds to loving kindness and discipline after years of being returned to shelters and even abused. The book serves as a gentle reminder (almost a tutorial) on appropriately matching a dog to its prospective owner(s) as well as the patience required to overcome the effects of trauma in bonding with rescue dogs. The romance aspect between Jenna and Jake is believable and relatable, but the primary star and focus of the book is Seven.
Overall, this is a heart-warming and heart-tugging story that is sure to appeal to dog lovers and anyone who ever felt the poignancy of the advertisements appealing for funds to support animal shelters. It is my first exposure to this author, and I was impressed by her ability to convey the emotional issues. I especially enjoyed the chapters written from the perspective of Seven himself as he learns to overcome his fear and trust issues.

Home Is Where Your Bark Is was precisely the story I needed at this moment in time. It didn't have a lot of angst, no big misunderstandings or miscommunication, and no meaningless third act breakup. Instead Jenna and Jake, the MCs, acted as adults, treating each other with kindness and respect, and most importantly, both were willing to put themselves out to rescue Seven, a high-energy, heartbreakingly mistreated border collie, who'd been labeled untrainable and was close to being unadoptable after 6 failed placements.
The book begins with Jenna reluctantly agreeing to return Seven to the shelter after her impulsive younger sister Monica adopted him in spite of already being completely overwhelmed with her current pregnancy and her two young sons. Needless to say, the adoption didn't go well.
When Jenna gets injured in an accident on her way to the shelter, she begs Jake, who was also in the accident but not injured, to take Seven to the shelter. Jake feels an instant connection to Jenna as he comforts her while waiting for the ambulance and agrees to take the dog, but pretty quickly realizes there is no way he can turn him in.
The rest of the book is heavily centered both around a sweet, growing relationship between Jenna and Jake as well as the growing trust and relationship between both of them with Seven. The romance was closed door as they agree early on that it's best to take it slow, but there's no doubt these two are meant for each other. Jenna Dunning and Jake Stiles are delightful characters. Jenna is finally settled into the life she knows is right for her. Her biggest flaw is not setting better boundaries with her younger sister, Monica. Jake is a charming man with a huge heart! He and Jenna form a relationship revolving around Seven, the energetic border collie but there is definitely more going on with them than just their love for the dog.
Seven is an adorable border collie who has been through many failed adoptions. He is rambunctious and in need of positive interactions and training. He pretty much steals the story as he learns to trust humans again as he, Jake, and Jenna bond.
Home Is Where Your Bark Is is an incredibly heartwarming romance. Jenna and Jake are well-drawn with relatable flaws and strengths. Their relationship blooms gradually and realistically throughout the story. Seven is just the best dog character EVER and the chapters from his perspective tug on the heartstrings! With a bit of drama, Debbie Burns brings this heartfelt and engaging romance to a sigh-worthy conclusion.

Jake Stiles dashes into the rain to help a woman and her dog after a car accident. He has no idea what will happen but it seems Fate is stepping in. Jenna Dunning is returning her sister's dog, a high energy border collie, to the shelter after yet another failed adoption for the dog. When she's hit by another vehicle, Jake comes to her rescue and agrees to take the dog. When Jenna reconnects with Jake upon getting out of the hospital, she's thrilled to learn that he's fostering the dog whom he calls Seven. Neither Jake nor Jenna are looking for a relationship but as they work together with Seven things begin to blossom.
I've enjoyed this author's previous books and was really looking forward to this one. I had a long wait through my library but it was well worth it. This was a well-written, heartwarming romance complete with a rescue dog. As Jake and Jenna work together with Seven to train him and teach him that it's okay to trust again, their romance builds but it's Seven's story too. I was drawn into this sweet and captivating story from the beginning and kept hooked throughout. The story was fully developed and it was a wonderful read. I loved every moment of reading this book. Started off good and only got better with each chapter. I plowed through it in a few hours. Jenna spends most of her time living in her sisters shadow, being her unpaid nanny all while she is working at a full time job to pay the bills and trying to grow her startup business that brings her so much joy. One of the many things her sister foists upon her is returning the very sweet, but overly energetic dog she adopted back to the rescue center. On the way she gets into a terrible car accident and in the midst of it all she meets Jake. He stays with her in the pouring rain and promises to return the dog for her. They exchange numbers and she is whisked off in an ambulance. Then he just can’t do it when he hears the dogs story so decides to foster the dog and names him Seven, he is not keeping him. Nope, definitely not keeping him. And so begins the love affair between all of them. It’s a truly fun, fabulous wonderful ride to the best happy ending.

This was such a sweet and heartwarming book that definitely pulled at my emotions. I can only imagine how hard it would be to give up a pet. We have adopted all of ours, two failed fosters – our dog and a cat, two from the shelter – cats, and then another two from unfortunate situations – cats. For Jake to take in seven, ah my heart, it was so sweet. He saw something in him and was willing to put in the work. Jake is like the ultimate book boyfriend. He’s so kind and caring and oh yeah, patient. Who doesn’t love a cinnamon roll MMC? Jenna was also a really sweet character, and I was rooting for her and Jake the whole time. Their romance was truly something special. This book is dually focused on Jake and Seven’s relationship and the relationship between Jake and Jenna. I think that both were well done and fully developed to my liking.
If you’re looking for a really sweet read, that will pull at your heartstrings and even includes the dogs, Seven, point of view, then you need to check this one out.

This cover, title nor premise did nothing for me but after letting mom read it first; her praise had me dropping everything to read it. Once again, momma knows best.
Jake Stiles has no idea what he's signing up for when he dashes into the rain to help a stranger and her dog who have been in a car accident, but fate has stepped in. Jenna Dunning was on her way to return her sister's high-energy border collie to a shelter after another failed attempt at a forever home for him when a distracted driver ran into them. Jenna is being taken to the hospital and must rely on a caring stranger to take charge of the terrified canine.
This book may be a romance about dogs but it will surprise you with the amount of emotional depth this contains. It even contains point of view from the dog and not once is it strange or uncomfortable. I love these two and the dog with all of my soul and not only did this provide a huge hug in the moment but it will stay with me for a long time to come. Perfect for the holiday season.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Home is Where Your Bark Is, and it was an absolute treat! This book brings warmth, humor, and heart in a perfect blend, making it a charming read. The characters are well-drawn and lovable, with the relationships and dialogue feeling natural and genuine. The connection to animals added such a lovely layer to the story—it’s not just about people but also the furry friends who enrich their lives.
The plot had a good balance of lighthearted moments and heartfelt ones, keeping me engaged throughout. I especially appreciated the author’s attention to detail and the little quirks that made each character feel unique and relatable. The pacing was steady, making it easy to immerse myself in the story. My only minor wish was for a bit more depth in certain parts, but overall, it was a delightful read that I would recommend to anyone looking for a cozy, feel-good escape.

Jake Stiles finds himself drawn to Jenna Dunning after he witnesses an auto accident she was injured in. He remains by her side until the ambulance gets there and promises to look after the not-so-friendly dog in the back seat of her vehicle. His intent was to do as Jenna asked and drop the dog off at the animal shelter. However, things don’t work out as planned. He learns that the dog has been returned to a shelter six times already and this would have been the seventh time. He decides to foster the dog and names him Seven. Seven hasn’t had an easy life. He’s full of energy and trusts no one. He’s not so sure he can trust Jake, either, but Jake doesn’t seem to be giving up.
A heartwarming story about trust, hope, love, second chances, seventh chances, kindness, patience, and understanding. This is a new-to-me author, and I loved this book.

Home Is Where Your Bark Is, a heartfelt story concerning a high-energy collie and two likable characters is by Debbie Burns. This author writes wonderful romance stories that includes dogs who are almost like matchmakers for the people involved. In a round about way that is exactly what happening in this story with Jake and Jenna.
Seven, the dog of many names since he has been returned more than once to the shelter is a lovable if “Marley” kind of dog. The opening scene sets the scene for what he is capable of doing along with young boys who are on the same level as him. You honestly can’t read this book without falling in love with him if at the same time cringing over the damage done to a dining room table. As the story unfolds, Jenna and Jake work together more happens than the successful fostering of Seven. Love, kindness and wonderful character development make this story a delight to read.

This book was so good!
Jenna and Jake met by accident, no, not what you're thinking, it was a real accident! Cars smashed up, airbags deployed, the whole bit. Jake wasn't hurt, but Jenna was, and Jake kept her company waiting for paramedics, and then took over care of the dog she was transporting. Long story, not her dog, but she was taking him back to the shelter.
Jake doesn't have time for a dog, and has just broken up with his girlfriend a few minutes ago. But he takes responsibility for the dog, names him Seven and proceeds to train him while fostering. Jenna helps out, and the two of them grow closer.
I especially liked the fact that when Jenna isn't returning Jake's call, he doesn't freak out, thinking she is ignoring him or whatever, he assumes that she is ok and there is a reason...refreshing attitude!!

I found it so easy to root for Seven. He had a rough life, and I was kind of glad he was able to find people who the patience and energy for him. I liked that Seven had a POV too. He was a fun little pup, and how wonderful that Jenna and Jake were able to harness that energy and uncover the dog's sheer brilliance. They were a great couple, and again, I had no problem rooting for them. They showed how kind and caring they were with how they treated Seven, and how could I not want people like that to find their HEA?

I have no book club to blame for this one … I did it to myself this time. And I’m calling 911.
This reads like a high school english paper torn between being a persuasive essay on adopting dogs and a narrative full of bad smut. I mean “you’re so damn beautiful, whatever etiquette’s been engrained in me is conceding to all the blood draining south” … These two get in a car accident in Chicago and a week later are raising a dog and saying I love you!?!? 🚩🚩🚩
“No holding back anymore. With him. With you. I want it all with you. All your everythings.” Jenna’s mouth fell open an inch. “I’m pretty sure that’s the most romantic thing anyone’s ever said to me.” “Oh yeah? That’s good because it’s darn sure the most romantic thing I’ve ever said to anyone.”
Oh and she has a plant business called Plants N Pots by Jenna. Why is it giving Lilly Blossom Bloom.

I grew up with a border collie and chose this book nearly solely based on the cover; I’m a sucker for any book with a herding breed dog. And the story didn’t disappoint. Told in alternating perspectives of Jake and Jenna (the human main characters) and Seven (the aforementioned border collie), the book starts out with an emotional punch that doesn’t let up. Seven’s chapters are a unique and endearing twist on your typical dual-perspective narration style and had me tearing up at times. Definitely a tear jerker of a romance, but there are lighthearted moments and moments of hope and love to balance it out. Would definitely recommend to anyone who liked Marley and Me or The Art of Racing in the Rain.

I just finished Home is where your bark with by Debbie Burns
This might just be the most adorable book. A border collie keeps being returned to shelter and by chance, Jenna gets into an accident on her way to drop her sister's dog off at the shelter and when a stranger comes to the rescue, she asks him to care for the dog. Jake is so sweet. Seven, being a collie, needs a lot of exercise and Jake falls not only for the dog but for Jenna too and it’s so sweet and heartwarming.
I love Seven! I was a collie mama once and I know exactly how Jake feels for Seven. Great book if you need a cinnamon roll MMC, second chance at love and a 4 legged bundle of fur to complete your afternoon reading.

Home is Where Your Bark Is, a new book by Debbie Burns, hits so many different emotions. It is heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. There are two stories within the book. One is Jenna, her sister, and the family drama involved with their relationship. But the primary story is about Jenna, Jake, and Seven, a shelter dog that has been returned to multiple animal shelters six times! Some of the story is told through Seven’s point of view as Jake tries to break his distrust of humans. During the process, Jake and Jenna realize that love means never giving up on Seven when other people do. This book is for anyone who loves romance and dogs!

Home is Where Your Bark Is is delightful, touching, heartwarming, and at times heartbreaking. Seven is a border collie whose boundless energy has resulted in his regular return to the animal shelter. Jenna struggles to find balanced boundaries with her sister, and Jake is finally able to break off a relationship that hasn’t been working. A chance accident brings them all together and life is never the same! Learning to trust is difficult for Seven, and Jake and Jenna work to help him learn and embrace that trust. In the process, they open themselves up to love, trust, and acceptance. The story is emotional, enchanting, and inspiring, and I loved it!
