SOME THINGS SHOULD STAY EXTINCT...

The world is full of predators.
Most kill for food.
Some kill for sport.

It begins with a gathering of friends celebrating a joyous occasion, the party crashed by an old enemy. It ends in a remote lodge in the Alaskan wilderness, where death lurks everywhere.

Featuring every surviving character from the Konrath Dark Thriller Collective, this ensemble thriller proves that evil takes many forms.

Prehistoric.
Demonic.
Human.

Who will be left standing when the wildlife gets really wild?

Joe Konrath has written over twenty novels in the Lt. Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels thriller series. They do not have to be read chronologically to be enjoyed, but the order is: Whiskey Sour, Bloody Mary, Rusty Nail, Dirty Martini, Shot of Tequila, Fuzzy Navel, Cherry Bomb, Dead On My Feet, Serial Killers Uncut (with Blake Crouch), Shaken, Stirred (with Blake Crouch), Dying Breath, Everybody Dies, Rum Runner, Last Call, White Russian, Shot Girl, Chaser, Old Fashioned, Bite Force, and Witch Brew. More coming soon.

Wow, that's a lot of Jack.

If you like your thrillers on the dark side, check out the Konrath Dark Thriller Collective, which includes the books The List, Origin, Afraid, Trapped, Endurance, Haunted House, Webcam, Disturb, What Happened To Lori, The Nine, Second Coming, and Close Your Eyes.

Joe also wrote the Stop A Murder mystery puzzle series, where you become the sleuth and solve brain teasers to try and catch a killer.

He also wrote the sci-fi trilogy, Timecaster, Timecaster Supersymmetry, and Timecaster Steampunk. Even if you don't think you like sci-fi, give them a try. They feature Joe's well-known characters from his other series, and are insane.

With Ann Voss Peterson he wrote the Codename: Chandler thrillers, including Flee, Spree, Three, Hit, Exposed, Naughty, Fix (with F. Paul Wilson), Rescue, and Free.

And, finally, he writes erotica under the pen name Melinda DuChamp, also with Ann Voss Peterson. Those books are probably too spicy for you, so only the brave and bold should seek them out.

Joe writes a lot. You should probably read everything.

10/10 for the books

The Konrath Dark Thriller Collective by J.A. Konrath is a masterclass in dark thriller and horror storytelling — bold, unfiltered, and unapologetically intense. Each book in the collection delivers a different version of fear: survival horror, psychological terror, supernatural threats, brutal crime, and twisted “what-would-you-do” dilemmas. What makes the series stand out is that every story feels like a new nightmare crafted with Konrath’s signature energy, pacing, and razor-sharp tension.
Although each installment can be read on its own, long-time readers will appreciate the recurring characters, subtle connections, and cross-book callbacks that make the universe feel bigger than any single novel. The stories are fast-moving, addictive, and written with a cinematic punch that makes them hard to put down. If you’re a fan of thrillers that push limits — and don’t shy away from graphic violence, dark humor, or psychological dread — this series is exactly what you want.
Despite tonal shifts from book to book, the Collective remains consistently gripping, surprising, and brutally entertaining. Konrath has a rare ability to blend horror with thriller mechanics in a way that feels both relentless and fresh, book after book.
Bottom line: 10/10 — a must-read for fans who crave high-octane, boundary-pushing horror thrillers.

I am truly starting to worry for J.A. Konrath. His books are extremely unhinged and this one is no exception. It's really two books in one, with the first half being an engagement party from hell and the second half being weekend getaway.. from hell. But seriously, sexual assault.. by animal. WTF?
I definitely liked the second half more. There was also some great segues into other books in the Konrath universe.

Love the Konrath collective with the recurring characters but this one just didn't do it. Too much stupidity with Harry & Abe taking up too many pages along with Mu's long winded explanations. Cut all of those pages out and the book was decent. The same characters facing death once again with Bub and primeval animals in the forest. A little lackluster for Konrath

Chaotic good and bad times with old friends

I seriously missed these characters and this book was a blast. I need to read the Jack Daniel’s books, and TimeCaster. I feel like I’m missing out otherwise.
