🎧🎧AUDIO REVIEW🎧🎧

🎤John Hartley & Stephanie Nemeth-Parker🎤
made an incredible duo performing this story. It’s a dual narration which allows each narrator to showcase their versatility and both of them have it in spades! John Hartley’s deep British sensual voice was perfection for Xander, and his style is one that is perfect for mystery and suspense! I adored Stephanie as Ariana and she too was very versatile and pulled off the British accents really well! I never once had a #twitchy moment! 👏👏👏👏

I really hope that JD Carothers has a ton of stories in her head that she will one day turn into books that I will read or audiobooks that I will listen to because I like her style! It’s so fresh, unique and easy. Take this story for example. We have “royals and commoners” being matched up and it’s done in a way where the “royal” aspect doesn’t even take center stage. It’s just two people traveling the path to HEA. At least, that’s how it felt for me, and it was refreshing! And it was even fun and endearing, even with the mystery plot points and twisty-twists running amok!

Ther’s just so much to love about this story that I don’t know where to begin. Aside from my complete and utter bliss listening to this story, I love the path that Carothers chose for Xander & Ariana. It’s a slow-burn friendship-to-more kind of journey and it was perfect for both of their circumstances. It would not have worked any other way. As a matter of fact, done any other way would have come across as forced and rushed. Without giving away the plot, there’s a similarity to the television show “The Batchelor” that surrounds this story, and the activities/outings are what bring Xander & Ariana closer and closer without either one really knowing it is happening. Ariana because she is actually not looking for a love match and Xander because he in fact must find a love match or any kind of match! Friendship, passion and a solid connection found them even when they weren’t looking for it and it all made my heart very happy!

The story held a good balance between mystery and romance with neither being shortchanged in my opinion. I can’t say that I didn’t see “some” things coming, but for the most part, I was left guessing and intrigued by most of the mystery. And even as the “secrets” all started to come out and unravel I was still invested in the outcome of the story. It’s not really a straightforward type of story which of course is yet another point in its favor, after all, it’s a romantic suspense so …

I did a binge-listen of these three stories, and I know there are a ton of reviewers that say this story, and really all three stories stand on their own nicely, but no, no they do not. If you want to capture the “Royals story arc” that is part of all three stories, you will get the best experience if you start from the very beginning with Rival Secrets. Do with that information what you will :)

A prince destined never to marry and a woman just trying to find some semblance of the life she promised her grandmother she would find come together on this epic adventure of love, murder and royalty.

This was my first J.D. Carothers book and while I was hesitant to read what is technically book two of this series I was never left wondering or confused. She created such a great picture of this world that Xander is a part of that falling into his world was so easy. And falling for Xander was even easier. Not your typical royal he knew what he wanted out of life, and he has been doing his best to make sure those dreams come to fruition. Except, all that changes when he no longer has his free will to hold on to and must marry before his father's next birthday.

In comes Ariana like a breath of fresh air. While not royalty herself Ariana finds herself drawn to the prince because of who he is rather than what he is. As Xander sets off to find the perfect queen it is Ariana who becomes the one Xander can't stop thinking about. With murder and even a bit of revenge on the table it isn't long before Ariana is put in danger herself and Xander's will is tested.

Royally Deceived takes a seemingly beautiful slow burn romance and turns it into a romantic suspense set in the heart of a royal family. I was left guessing up to the very end and when the secrets started coming out one after another, I was left wanting to strangle Xander and then hug him. That boy really took his time figuring out where his true heart lied but it was entirely worth it for that breathtaking happily ever after.

I know with all certainty this will not be my last J.D. Corothers book!!

Have you ever considered how fantastic the Bachelor would be if it included Royals? Royally Deceived gives you a glimpse into how matchmaking goes when you are a Royal and not interested in finding a love match...but a marriage of convenience and a dash of murder mystery!

Silly Xander...he wasn't prepared for the feisty, genuine and beautiful American to come into his life.

Ariana has just been fired from her job, which may be a blessing in disguise so she decides to travel to London to pursue her dream of being a romance author. One thing leads to another and she has the opportunity to do hands-on research!

Then you add in the audio with Stephanie Nemeth-Parker and John Hartley and it takes the story to the next level! This is performed in dual narration meaning each chapter POV is performed by either John or Stephanie. It allows the listener to hear the vast range of voices each narrator can perform. Each had a large task with the multiple accents and support characters throughout.

This is a fun read. A sweet romance that evolves when one of them isn’t looking for it… And in the midst of a couple of who-done-it’s. This book has it all, a handsome Prince, a damsel (or two) in distress, a little mystery and a happy ending. I enjoyed reading and listening to this book and would like to thank Author J.D. Carothers for the ARC eBook and Audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

Second in the Series, but it stands alone very well. As this was my first entry in the series I had zero issues following along. I could tell there was a story previously told that I want to know more about, but it had no impact on my ability to sink into this story.

This one is unique cocktail mix of a book. We have a little match making/dating competition going on (very much giving untelevised The Batchelor vibes complete with group and one-on-one dates). We have a little mystery and suspense going on (accidents actually aren't, injuries, plots and even a murder to solve). Did I mention that our Hero is the heir to the throne of a European island nation? well yeah, there's that complication to everything too.

Xander really just wants to live his life on his own terms but being heir has a ton of complications, especially when the rules of the monarchy for his country are really detailed and he has 3 weeks to find a wife or his father can't retire as King. Using an elite match making service, he's introduced to several candidates and he narrows down the field and asks 4 of them to accompany him home to better explore their potential future marriage-of-convivence/royal duty marriage.

Ariana lost her job and is taking time to work on her passion project, a romance novel. She asks a friend of the family to help her understand the ins and outs of the professional match making world and for research purposes, she's added to the mix of candidates for Prince Xander. She's upfront and honest that she's not looking for love after her last relationship tanked.

I really loved how their friendship built out of these dating contest outings even when Ariana isn't in the official running for the ring. She's also the only one concerned about all the things going wrong and people in danger. They bonded and found passion without really trying, but everyone comes with baggage and that doesn't exclude royals.

The audiobook was performed by Stephanie Nemeth-Parker & John Hartley. Stephanie was perfection as Ariana. The emotional range from the character as she flows through the story is delightful. She was wounded and guarded, joyous, flirty and friendly, cautious yet protective and when the time came for it, she was angry and upset. I likes the tones and inflections used to bring the world to life, it make it very easy to be on her side. John Hartley is delicious as the reluctant prince Xander. His voice was soothing and regal as a baseline and then everywhere he went off that baseline just dragged me along with him. Disappointment, unease, a little plotting to try and get his way in a most difficult situation. They way he delivered performances for some of Xander's "Candidates" was utterly fantastic. I had a physical reaction to some of these women and what they were looking for out of the process. John did an amazing job with his performance in this whole book.

I was quite invested in the story very early and got attached to the characters, wanting to see how they dealt with everything and once the murder mystery aspect hit, I was all in! I had to figure it out and I am pleased to say, I did not predict the outcome. I love when that happens.

I received an advanced copy of the audiobook. These are my honest opinions.

Prince Xander is a modern prince: he's very interested in environmental issues and, under an alias, supports several causes that helped save the planet. When his father decides to "retire" (something his country's laws allow), he can only do so if the heir to the throne is married. All this has to be done before the King's 65th birthday that's fast approaching. Now, the modern price sees himself in a very non-modern situation - finding a suitable bride through an elite matchmaking business.
Ariana has just lost her job at a NYC PR company and has decided to use the small inheritance her nana left her to head to London and write her first book, a romance novel about royals. When a friend offers her the opportunity to research in loco about royals by attending her matchmaking party, Ariana decides to attend. What she wasn't expecting was that she'd be in the running to become the prince's bride. But nefarious things are happening around the prince, including a murder...
I had great fun listening to this one but I must confess that the pacing of the first third of the book threw me off a little, but when things finally started happening it was a thrilling ride all the way to their HEA.
I'm notorious for guessing plots in mystery books and I wasn't too far off what was happening and why, but it's very well written and pretty entertaining. I'm now very curious about the prince's brother and his story too! This is book two in the series and it can definitely be read as a standalone, but now I really want to know what happened in book 1!
Narration: If you get all tingly with a British accent, you're in a for a treat! John Hartley is very regal and posh and swoony in this one. Stephanie Nemeth-Parker is amazing as Ariana and she also goes through several accents flawlessly. Great listen!

Book 2 in Love Over Murder Series
Dual Narration- John Hartley & Stephanie Nemeth-Parker
**John Hartley is so good. I love his voice so much! Stephanie Nemeth-Parker is fabulous!

Arranged marriage/matchmaker
Secret identities
Murder mystery
Dual POV

This book follows Prince Xander as he is forced to find a wife. He enlists the help of a matchmaker. He has four potential candidates for his bride to be.

The group of them go on “dates” to get to know each other. Bad things, deadly things happen. Giving this book a bit of mystery and suspense to go along with the romance.

I was very impressed by book 2 in relation to book 1. I enjoyed this book so much more. I loved the storyline, and how Xander and Ariana meet and grow their friendship into more. The flow of this book was great and kept the story moving as well as it kept me on the edge of my seat! Xander made me mad with how angry he was with her when he literally did the same thing! My only real complaint with this one was the exhausting food explanations. I'm all for explaining why a food sparks special memories and all that, but explaining every single ingredient and how it's prepared is not necessary. Unless the characters are actually cooking, this lengthy description is boring.
Stephanie Nemeth-Parker and John Hartley were really fantastic in this audiobook. Both just took these characters and made them their own. Great casting choices.

**Audio Review**
Royally Deceived by J.D. Carothers was a royal romantic suspenseful ride full of swoony twists and gripping turns that kept me guessing till the very end. This is book two of Carothers' Murder and Romance Are on the Menu series, and it is taken the top spot for me in the series so far. Royally Deceived can be enjoyed as a complete stand-alone.

Stephanie Nemeth-Parker and John Hartley narrate the audiobook, and this was the first time I'd heard these two paired together. Stephanie brought grace and poise to her performance of Ariana highlighting her passionate, dedicated, and determined persona. Plus, all of her accents were on point! (Yes, lady!) John's portrayal of Prince Xander was regal and dignified emphasizing his loyal loving and charismatic persona to the crown and Ariana perfectly. The slow-burning chemistry between Ariana and Xander was magnetic and undeniable in audio!

Overall, I enjoyed this book! If you are a fan of a royal romance with a hunky heroic prince, a fierce brave novelist, monarchy, matchmaking, suspense, murder, slow burn steamy times, mistaken identity, deception, plot twists, and a HEA that is crown worthy, then you will love Ariana and Xander's story. I look forward to more from J.D. Carothers.

I enjoyed this story so much. The writing was wonderful and add in the fantastic narration from John Hartley and Stephanie Nemeth-Parker pushed it over the top. I am definitely going to have to add more of them to my listening list.

Xander must find a wife but he has no desire to ever get married. He was burned by a girlfriend years ago and he just can't risk his heart anymore. So he turns to the services of a matchmaker. She finds him several suitable candidates and then he must narrow this group down so that he can spend time with them and figure out who is best suited for the future role of Queen.

Ariana just lost her job and decided to use some of her savings and inheritance to travel to London and finally write that book she has been putting off. She has sworn off men because of her last few relationships have truly hurt her. Thanks to her friend, she is included in the group of women that Prince Xander must choose between.

Ariana and Xander become fast friends and when murder and mystery surround the matchmaking for the Prince, they must work together to try and figure out who is out to harm everyone involved.

This story really kept me guessing for most of the book. By the time the reveal happens, I had narrowed it down to two suspects. I loved that I was wrong for most of the story. It almost felt like a game of Clue (which I loved playing when I was younger). This was such a fun story and I really can't wait for the next one.

Love these two together!

Rating: 4 stars for story / 5 stars for performance
Format: Audiobook - Dual narration by John Hartley and Stephanie Nemeth-Parker
Series / Standalone: Interconnected Standalone (Love Over Murder Book 2)
Tropes: Romantic Suspense/Murder Mystery, Royalty, Hidden Identities, Friends to Lovers

Thanks to Homecooked Books and the author for this ALC - all opinions are my own

This was a really fun listen. The plot was intriguing with a whodunit right when the story got going. The characters were interesting and the dating game vibes added a fun twist in the midst of the mystery. Between the first two books, I feel truly invested in this family and can’t wait to listen to the third book.

I listen to a lot of audiobooks and I cannot stress how much I enjoyed these two narrators. The display of talent by Stephanie Nemeth-Parker was impressive. She was voicing so many different female characters, many times in one scene together, all with a wide range of accents, and she did so flawlessly. John Hartley had the perfect tone and attitude to play the prince, and he brought it all to life so well. I highly recommend this one in audio!!

Prince Xander, needs a bride within the next few months in order to become king.

Four potential women and only one will become Queen, until deadly stunts start happening, and all four women are in danger.

I did love the plot in this book, the suspense weaved in was great, even though I figured out pretty quickly who the suspect was 🙈

I didn't really enjoy the main couple in this book, the chemistry was lacking, and what the hero did in the last 10% of the book was just hurtful, and not something I could get past. The ending felt quite rushed.

Excellent Story & Narration🎧 Gripping & Alluring!

Royally Deceived
Love Over Murder, Book 2
By J.D. Carothers
Narrated by: John Hartley, Stephanie Nemeth-Parker

J.D. Carothers pens another intriguing novel in her “Love Over Murder” series, a contemporary romantic suspense, murder mystery. This second book of the series is Prince Xander of Catalinius and Ariana Madison “Maddie” Montgomery’s story, an original story that captivates your attention from start to end. After getting fired from her PR marketing job, Ariana takes the trip her grandmother and namesake wanted her to take, and to start her new career as an author and the novel she wants to write. While in London she reaches out to her mother’s friend, Meredith, a matchmaker, to ask if she could help with some research for her novel. Meredith gives her one better and puts her in as one of eight girls matched for a royal client. Xander is next in line for the throne and he knows if his father wants to retire at 65 he can only do so if Xander marries, otherwise his father has to stay on the throne the rest of his life. His father expressed his interest in retiring, so now it is a scramble to find him a wife, a wife of convenience only, and he turns to the matchmaker to find a match. Similar to the reality show, he has to pick one out of eight, narrowing it down to four, then get to know the four better. Ariana makes it to the four, but she is upfront with him why she is there and is not looking to become his wife or a Queen. This was disappointing because he connected the most to her than the others, but they could be friends and confide in each other. It was like they already knew each other, and little did they know, they did. Then shady things happen and what first appeared as an accident turned out to be an attempt on his life, then there is a murder, and attempts on others, including Ariana. It was great to watch Ariana and Xander work together and get to know each other, also great trying to figure out who was behind the murders and why. I loved the complexity of the characters, all the layers of the story and how it all played out, with plenty of drama, a touch of angst, mystery, thrilling and suspenseful moments, twist and turns, heartfelt emotions and a slow burn romance. Like the first book, the writing, plot and world building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. J.D. Carothers, thank you for another amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 John Hartley and Stephanie Nemeth-Parker were fantastic voicing these characters and delivering a perfect portrayal of each. Hartley was a natural in Xander’s role, grasping all aspects of his personality, from his prim and properness to his caring side and his hot-tempered side. Nemeth-Parker was just as fabulous in Ariana’s roles, and did the same with showcasing her personality, including her strength, determination, and fierceness. Both were great performing the roles of the side and secondary characters, accents and all. They set the right tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. These two made a great, with voices and talent that complemented each other and an enthralling performance that keeps you riveted to the story. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to.

Narrator performances outshine story…

Story: 3.75 ⭐️s
Narration: 5 ⭐️s

Book 2 in Carothers’s Love over Murder series has Prince Xander (older brother to Evan) take center page as he attempts to advocate for environmental protection measures, find a suitable bride, and foil an assassination plot. Add an FMC, Ariana, at a life crossroads, as a PR pro who is also a wannabe romance novelist, and there is a lot happening in RD.

I thought the set up for the story was initially well established. The bride-search-on-a-deadline trope is always fun, and I was curious how the romantic suspense would come in to play. I also enjoy that Ariana and Xander know each other, but don’t realize that they do, which establishes an interesting tension. However, in the case of RD, that tension becomes a bomb that, when it detonates in act three, is not effectively deployed. I think that given how much else is going on with the plot, it just felt out of place by that point. So, it became more typical third act misunderstanding rather than a more interesting choice and paled with the higher stakes of the suspense plot. For me, the fact that there are so many plot elements at play didn’t really leave space for Carothers to develop the pieces in a way that felt fully cooked. Pacing was a bit of an issue because so much was set up. And while I found the elements individually interesting, the attempt to weave everything together did not work as well for me as I expected at the start.

This is a shame because I really liked the characters. Xander and Ariana were a great pair; I just felt that their (re)connection was a bit rushed because there was so much other plot that had to happen. There was a lot of telling vs showing, especially towards the end. And some of that telling struck me like scenes that should have been built and shown rather than exposition that was told, not only for plot reasons but also for character ones.

This was a case where the audiobook went a long way to smooth the rough edges of the story. The narrators are excellent and listening to the book upped my reading enjoyment. John Hartley is delicious here. I’ve enjoyed his work for a long time; he has performed in many of my favorite Kristen Ashley books, and to hear him in this was a delight. He was a great match for Xander, portraying the charisma a prince should probably have. And, of course, his signature gruff sexiness is just *chef’s kiss*. Stefanie Nemeth-Parker gave a wonderful performance as Ariana. I thought her delivery brought out all the best of the character, and was consistently able to show Ariana’s appeal. Together, both narrators just did a wonderful job.

If you’re enjoying Carothers’s series, absolutely give RD a listen. As with the previous book, the second epilogue teed-up the next book, and I am very intrigued because it’s Sean (Evan‘s friend), and I’ve been curious about him since book one. I will definitely return for that story.

I’m grateful to have received an ALC copy of the audiobook via Home Cooked Books. I also read the book via KU. All opinions expressed are my own.

When Prince Xander is told his father, the king wants to retire soon, he’s been in denial for quite a while. As is law in his kingdom, in order to become king, he must be married. So Xander thinks of an efficient route of enlisting a matchmaker service to help him find his bride.

Having been newly fired from her PR job, Ariana has traveled to London to move forward with her dream of becoming a romance author. Turns out a friend of Ariana’s family runs the matchmaking service that Xander enlists to help him. A cocktail party is planned with the potential matches, including Ariana to meet Xander. Although she has no plans to be in the running for the future king’s marriage plans, there’s an almost immediate chemistry between them when they meet. Although she has told Xander she doesn’t want to include herself in the group, he still invites her to join the others in spending a couple weeks on his island. Xander would like Ariana’s help in determining who would be an appropriate choice to be the future queen.

Twist to the prince’s bride-finding mission, someone is out to hurt him and/or his prospective brides. And since the authorities aren’t moving as fast in solving the case as Xander would like them to, he and Ariana begin some sleuthing of their own. Guised as one of the candidate dates, he and Ariana work to find out who the villain is. As they spend more time together, they find they have quite a lot in common, and of course feelings develop. I enjoyed the matchmaking dates, along with the mystery of solving the bad behavior, and Xander and Ariana learning how their past relationships have clouded their view of the possibility of meeting the right person.

This is my first book by JD Carothers, and what a wonderful aural treat it was. John Hartley has quickly become a top favorite narrator of mine, and fairly new-to-me narrator Stephanie Nemeth-Parker did a wonderful job alongside John.

Royally Deceived
Love Over Murder Book 2
By: JD Carothers
Narrated by: John Hartley, Stephanie Nemeth-Parker

Fall in love with Xander, the prince who someday will be king. Or will he? He has to be married before his father's next birthday and there are no prospects on the horizon. Xander has more interest in helping his country, not his love life. But now the timer is set and he is on a mission. A matchmaking service should help. Here he meets some women, and as he narrows it down to four, he is certain he can be married quickly. One is Ariana, and though the two hit it off, Xander knows she is not in it for marriage. She is doing research for a book and this selection process is just what she needs. But will that chemistry be able to be ignored? And now there is danger lurking, and together, Ariana and Xander are trying to get to the bottom of it without getting hurt. Will Xander be able to keep his people safe? And what happens when worlds collide in the most unsuspecting way? I loved this whodunnit royal romance. Xander is a fantastic character, truly down to earth, and wanting to do the best for his country. Ariana is finally living for her dream, and this made me love her. JD Carothers writes a whodunnit that had me making every person a suspect, on the edge trying to figure out what was happening and why along with stealing my heart with this fantastic couple. It's a great addition to the Love Over Murder series and I loved it.

John Hartley and Stephanie Nemeth-Parker are incredible together as they tell this story. Hartley's voice is smooth, slightly regal and warm. I loved him as Xander, working through all the things he went through. Nemeth-Parker is so good as Ariana. She comes in with a mission, and does her best to not fall for the prince. The emotions are spot on. Together, they created a magic between the couple and an amazing suspenseful story.

Xander is a crowned prince set to become King of his island country, but to take the thrown he must first be married. As a public servant, his work is focused on charity and fundraisers to help those in need and his citizens, so when his journey to become King is fast tracked and he has to find a wife ASAP, he turns to a matchmaking service for the best way to find someone suitable for the title of Queen.
Ariana works in events and, unbeknownst to her, has been working closely with a crowned prince on his charities, a man she only knows as Alex. When she is abruptly fired from her job and is stuck wondering what is next for herself, she feels the most loss at losing contact with Alex, this mysterious man whom she has developed a connection with. Looking to start a new journey in writing fiction, Ariana goes to London and meets with a family friend, who happens to be a matchmaker. Ariana proposes the idea of shadowing her matchmaking process for research on her book, but ends up being put into the running of a possible match instead.
Deciding to go into the process with eyes wide open, she is matched with Xander and decides to tell him her intentions from the start, making them friends and an ally for Xander as he tries to choose the next Queen. But as they spend time together their feelings develop into more than friendship, and when incidents start happening around them that put everyone in danger, they work together to find out what is going on and who exactly is the target.
Testing their trust in those around them and even in each other, this story was full of suspense and an interesting storyline that unfolded beautifully. Great plot and lots of chemistry and tension between these two.
John Hartley and Stephanie Nemeth-Parker were wonderful on this title. Their use of accents was fun in this story and their performances were impassioned and heightened all the suspense and tension in this story.

J.D. Carothers' "Royally Deceived" delivers a charming blend of romance, intrigue, and royal escapades, making for an enjoyable audiobook experience. The narrative centers on Prince Xander, tasked with finding a bride to secure his ascension to the throne, and Ariana, a PR professional turned aspiring romance writer. Their paths collide through an elite matchmaking service, setting the stage for a delightful "friend-zoned" romance.

The audiobook's narration effectively captures the characters' personalities, bringing Xander's regal charm and Ariana's witty determination to life. The pacing is well-maintained, balancing the development of the romantic relationship with the unfolding mystery surrounding a potential murder plot. This adds a layer of suspense that keeps listeners engaged.

Carothers skillfully navigates the familiar tropes of royal romance, injecting fresh humor and relatable character dynamics. Ariana's initial resistance to Xander's advances provides a refreshing twist, fostering a genuine connection between the characters. The supporting cast adds depth to the story, enriching the royal backdrop and the matchmaking service's quirky environment.

The blend of lighthearted moments and suspenseful twists works well, creating a satisfying listening experience. While the premise is rooted in familiar romance themes, the execution feels unique. The audiobook successfully transports listeners to the opulent world of royalty, making "Royally Deceived" a delightful escape. The story explores the conflict between duty and personal desire, adding an emotional core that resonates. Overall, "Royally Deceived" is a well-crafted audiobook that delivers a satisfying mix of romance, humor, and intrigue.

“I’ve wasted weeks looking for the right person when she was in front of me all along.”

🎧 Audiobook Review 🎧

This series is feeding the criminal investigator wannabe in me, and I am having so much fun with it. Thank you Home Cooked Books for this ALC.

Xander is the crown prince of Catalinius, and he needs to find a wife in less than four months so he can take the throne so his father can retire. For this reason, he calls in a matchmaking service for assistance. Ariana, after being laid off from a PR company, decides to follow her dream of becoming a writer and contacts a family friend who's in the matchmaking business to do research for her book. When they first meet Xander and Ariana immediately hit it off, and even though Ariana is honest about her research and not being interested in a relationship, Xander invites her to Catalinius so he can spend more time with her, under the guise of him wanting her opinion on the other girls.

I absolutely loved the friends to lovers aspect of this story. I loved how Xander and Ariana bonded, how Xander could let his guard down and be himself, and how much fun they always had together. I was also quite sad with who the victim was. She was actually my favorite of the other girls. And I loved how the author kept throwing us off and making me doubt myself in regards to who the culprit was with every new thing we learned.

John Hartley and Stephanie Nemeth-Parker are both ntm narrators, and I quite enjoyed their work on this story. They did a fantastic job with all the different characters and their personalities. The dialogs were easy to follow, and I must say John's accent is absolutely delicious.

Quote: “She’s my fourth because, at the end of my deliberations, the thought of not keeping her around was upsetting. Worst case, we become good friends, and she helps me through this process.”

J.D. Carother's you have seriously nailed this series!! I'm in LOVE! As soon as I start the audiobooks I can't stop listening. I'm instantly hooked. The narrators John Hartley and Stephanie Nemeth-Parker did a fabulously job telling this story. Their voices held my attention and kept me entertained throughout the entire story. They make you feel like you truly know these characters. The story and characters are well written.

Ariana heads to London after getting fired form a PR firm to become a romance writer. Well what better way to write a romance book then to do your research through your friends matchmaking service for royal love lives. What she didn't expect to be part of the research was being part of the matchmaking process and matching with Xander.

Prince Xander is in need of a wife since he is next in line for the crown but he doesn't want one chosen for him so he calls a matchmaker. Whne he meets Ariana he knows there something special about her and wants to get to know her more as friends. So she will go along on the ride with the other matches.

This story will keep you on the edge of your seat and toes! Not only is there romance but there is a little murder too! There are so many exciting moments in this book and you will not want to stop listening to it. I listened to this book in a day because I seriously couldn't stop listening. Thankfully I had cleaning to do and other things to accomplish while listening. LOL
Xander and Ariana were so much fun in this story. I loved their friendship and how everything came together. This is a must read book and series. I would HIGHLY recommend it.

Thank you Home Cooked Books for allowing me to listen to this ALC for my honest opinion.

🎧Audio/📖ebook review
Narrated by John Hartley & Stephanie Nemeth-Parker

Royally Deceived is book 2 in the Love over Murder series from JD Carothers. We pick up just after book 1 ends. Xander is Evans brother and gets his own HEA in this book. This is a fun suspenseful romance revolving around a future king looking for his Queen.

Xander needs a wife. And fast. In order to take the reins from his father. A hired matchmaker has gathered a select group of prospects in a reality show
bachelor-style setting. Ariana is thrown in at the last minute, not as a prospect, but as a writer looking to research for a book she’s writing. Things heat up as there’s a murder and several attempts more as someone wants these contestants dead. Now the game is afoot and Xander and Ariana team up to find the killer. Even Ariana’s not safe. Xander is a swoony prince who will make your heart throb. I loved Ariana’s strong and independent character. This is a fun and light love story with suspense that will keep you guessing.

John Hartley & Stephanie Nemeth-Parker narrate in dual narration style. Stephanie’s authentic performance nailed Ariana’s voice. Her English accent for Xander is throaty, sexy and spot on. John Hartley voiced Prince Xander and, oh boy, is it swoonworthy. He narrated the posh royal accent to perfection. This book has several characters with accents and he deliver on all of them, especially his French was great.

This is book 2 in Carothers' Love over Murder series and I loved this one just as much as book 1 (Rival Secrets). While this is a wonderful addition to the series and there are some crossover characters, this book can easily be read / listened to as a standalone. Our main characters are Prince Xander and Ariana. Both of our main characters have a history that keeps them from trusting others easily and has made them more than reluctant to pursue a relationship. That said, Prince Xander finds himself in a position where he must wed and Ariana finds herself drawn to him in spite of herself. While there is plenty of romance both sweet and steamy I also adore the suspense, mystery and danger element that Carothers delivers in this book and series. Left guessing until the end I love that the culprit is discovered and neutralized in this book and in book 1 as well. A satisfying read / listen all around. Also, the audio version that I received and am reviewing delivers wonderful dual narration. Both narrators deliver smooth vocals that I can completely associate with our characters and the accent Prince Xander is given is swoon worthy! I loved this book and can't wait for more from Carothers and this series!

This book was given to me for free at my request thanks to HCB and I am voluntarily providing this review.

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW:

Story - ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Spice - 🌶🌶
Narration - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Royally Deceived is book #2 in the Love Over Murder series. This is Xander and Ariana's story. If The Bachelor and Clue had a baby, it would be this story. Crown Prince Xander needs to pick a wife and marry her in 2 months. He has no expectations of love, just a marriage of convenience and an heir. Ariana is figuring out her future after losing a job she loved, and coincidentally is included in the bride selection. These two have a strong connection, but Ariana makes it clear she is there for her novel research and not to find a husband. When the island paradise takes a dark and deadly turn, everyone is suspect. You know a good series when each book gets better and better, and this one doesn't disappoint. The author delivers everything good - romantic suspense, murder, mistaken identity, matchmaking, slow burn with steamy times, and a big ol' plot twist at the end. Loved this brave FMC and sexy heroic MMC, along with his brother from book #1. I'm SO ready for Sean's story!!!

The dual narration of John Hartley (🔥) and Stephanie Nemeth-Parker (❤️) were fantastic! These two nailed their performance delivering all the passion, emotion, and angsty attraction between the MCs. 5/5 stars!!

Ahh! This was even more fun than book 1!

I’m living for the “who done it” vibes the author is packing into these stories. They’re interesting and mysterious but don’t overwhelm the plot, just keep it moving forward. Each villain makes sense, to each scenario as well. Which makes the story fun and easy to get into. But like the last book the strongest elements remain with the romance and characters.

I loved the way the MCs found each other over and over. I could have gone without the third act, but because the characters' backstories were developed in such meaningful ways it fit. I’m normally not a huge fan of royal romances but this prince felt relatable in his own way. That sounds crazy because nothing about his plight was actually relatable, but he was written in a way that made him seem more accessible as a person.

Like the first book, I listened to this one as I read and love it. The dual narration was great and all the different accents were a blast!

Royally Deceived is the second book in JD Carothers’ Love Over Murder series, and it pulled me in from the very beginning. We follow Prince Xander, charming, soon-to-be-king and Ariana, a novelist hopeful, caught up in a reality show-style dating setup with a twist: murder.

Their instant connection was electric, and the fact that there’s a past connection they don’t even realize at first made it all the more delicious. The suspense elements were woven in perfectly, adding just the right amount of tension.
The story is a great blend of romance, drama, and mystery that kept me engaged the whole time. But when Xander suspected Ariana of deceit? That moment crushed me and definitely rooting for some serious groveling.

And the audiobook performance was outstanding. John Hartley brought Xander to life with a swoon-worthy accent and emotional depth. Stephanie Nemeth-Parker perfectly captured Ariana’s voice, strong, vulnerable, and real. Their duet narration took the story to another level.

If you love royal romances with mystery, emotion, and a fantastic audio experience, don’t skip this one!

Audio book review

First story I listen from JD Carothers
Second in the series, but it stands alone very well. There is lots of surprises in this story, a murder , the main hero ( a prince ) Xander who likes to go by Alex and the heroine Ariana Arianna her real name has known Xander only as Alex and Xander knows Arianna by her other name
Xander is caught in a bind ,he is the heir to the throne of a European island nation and his father wants to retire, so Xander needs to marry in three weeks. That’s where the matchmaking comes in . Xander has to pick from the ten ladies 4 to take them home to the kingdom to see how they react. Arianna is picked but she has something else happening, she doesn’t want to marry. Grab it and see do they find out they know each other , what is happening, why was someone murdered. , why does Xander father want him to marry Lady Harper. You really need to listen

The performance of John Hartley, Stephanie Nemeth-Parker was fantastic. Love how they brought the characters to life. Their voices are strong and clear

Royally Deceived, book two in the Love Over Murder romantic suspense series by J.D. Carothers, gives us another thoroughly enjoyable couple to fall in love with while they solve a mystery.

Xander, a royal that must marry to inherit the throne, finds himself as a bachelor trying to pick his bride from a small pool of contestants. Ariana, recently let go of her job, is sent to participate for job research, not to actually fall in love with the prince himself. But you know what they say of the best laid plans, and they sure do go awry here. Xander and Ariana vow to be friends to help each other, but love doesn't play by their rules. The trick? Keep both of them alive long enough to realize they're each other's happily ever after.

The audio, narrated by John Hartley and Stephanie Nemeth-Parker, is extremely well done. They capture the essence of their characters, from their instant connection to their emotional conflict, and bring the words to life. A great listen.

Thank you Homecooked Books for this listen.

Royally Deceived is the second book in the series, but it can be read as a standalone.

Xander was a Prince, uninterested in marrying. But he needed to have a wife to take the crown, so he had a little dating competition. But of course, the only one he truly falls for is the one who isn’t there to fall in love.

Not only was there drama between some of the other “competitors” but there was also suspense. Horrible things were happening to the other women, and it was fun trying to figure out who was behind it all.

I loved the friendship between Xander and Ariana. They just got each other, and they definitely had a connection.

This was a great addition to the series, and I can’t wait to see what’s next.

Audiobook notes:
Narrated by: John Hartley and Stephanie Nemeth-Parker
Narration Style: Dual

The narrators were amazing! John Hartley was perfect for Xander, especially with his British accent. Stephanie was equally as amazing with her performance as Ariana.

When Ariana finds herself at a crossroads because she does her job too well she decides to pursue a very different career which has her attending a social event where a prince is looking to meet a woman to be his bride. She is chosen as one of the women he would like to spend more time with so she agrees under the stipulation that they would only be friends.

With his father wanting to step down as King it is up to Xander to marry and assume the throne. He knows this is something that must be done quickly so he invites four women to his home where he will spend time with them and decide which woman would be his match however he hadn’t prepared for the danger that they all would face.

Xander and Ariana are characters who draw you in and the balance between romance and suspense will have you invested in their happy ever after. John Hartley was a great choice for Xander, and his brogue only makes him more charming while Stephanie Nemeth-Parker brings out both the caring personality of Ariana as well as her strength.
