Murder is in the cards at one Vegas casino, but is love too?
All I wanted was one more hot night with the woman of my dreams. Instead, all I got was both of us drunk and accidently married at my resort.
Maybe this isn’t such a bad deal, since we must stay together for my inheritance, but how do I explain that to the new Mrs. Cartwright? If we could stop flirting, kissing, and taking this too far one too many times…
Don’t get me wrong, Lowri is gorgeous, smart, and spunky, but I don’t want a wife forever. Marriage isn’t for me. I’ve seen the pain it can cause, no matter what sparks fly between us. If I drag my feet long enough hopefully she can see the benefits for holding off on the annulment.
And as if I don’t have enough on my plate, I have a murder on the casino floor hitting the news and an employee threatening my livelihood. With shows falling apart, a royal party to plan, and learning I’m too close to the mafia…in an instant, I could lose everything my family built.
Will love be my lucky lady and deal me a better hand?
Reckless Chance is the third book in the Love Over Murders series. Each book is a standalone story featuring one couple’s journey to their guaranteed H.E.A. and no cliffhanger. The series is especially for lovers of swoony moments intertwined with a murder mystery.
When not consumed by her job as an attorney, J.D. Carothers loves to cook for her family and friends, read murder mysteries and romance novels, eat chocolate, and sip wine watching the sunset in Southern California.
Late at night or early on weekend mornings, she tries to find a quiet place to write her next novel and trade the stress of real life for a fantasy world where murder and romance are on the menu, along with the food she loves.
She just wishes there were more hours in each day!
🎤Robert Hatchet & Kit Swann🎤 surprised the heck out of me with this performance. I know that sounds like I normally don’t enjoy them, but that isn’t quite it. Are they smooth as butter in my ears every time I listen to either of them? No, not always. However, they didn’t just surprise me because they were smooth(ish) in my ears but also because they fit these characters perfectly in my head! Their voices matched them in my perception of who they were, and it was just surprising, in a very good way! So, thank you and well done!
As cliché as the whole oopps, we’re married in Vegas circumstance has become for me, I didn’t roll my eyes as I though I would. I’m not sure why LOL but I liked it for these two. It kinda matched them and it wasn’t really center stage to the story so I think that’s why it worked for me. I like this author. I like the books in this series a lot and I think they mix romance and suspense really well without taking away from each other.
Navigating a murder mystery alongside a romance journey is not an easy feat and both Lowri & Cartwright add their own personal bit of turmoil to the mix along with the whole unexpected union thing and when you mix all of that together, something is bound to explode or be explosive! Well, I can tell you that just about everything was its own brand of explosive, from Lowri’s take no prisoners sass to Cartwright’s push-pull tendencies, the story will captivate and keep you on the edge from beginning to end. These two sparked from the moment they hit the page and when the story took off running, so did they and I was ensnared for the full 8 hours this story was in my ears!
I sorta binge-listened to the 3 books in this series and it was one of the best binge-listening experiences I have had in my #AudioEra. I don’t do that very often but since these 3 audiobooks had different narrators I ran with it, and I really enjoyed myself. These are standalone(ish) novels, but they do have interconnected characters that you will love so my advice is to read and/or listen to all three from the beginning to get the best possible experience out of this series!
Okay, those are my 2 cents on it all. Don’t spend them all at once!
• THOUGHTS: This series has pleasantly surprised me in the beat way possible. I really did go into these books with little insight to them and it was completely narrator driven base. I am so glad I did. I have loved all the couples. Sean and Lowery are no exception. I loved this couple ND the simplicity of their friendship and their situationship, but much like the first two books the suspense/thrill element to the book just adds a little something and i very much enjoyed the book as a whole.
NARRATOR THOUGHTS: •Narrators: Kit Swann and Robert Hatchet •Dual Narration •Listening at a 1.5 speed. Oh my goodness I feel likes it's been ages since I have listened to Kit! She did such a great job! I love her talent!!! pair that up with Rob and boom perfection! Robert Hatchet is such a talented actor. I love that we get to hear him do an accent! Honestly both Narrators were incredible! I would recommend this audio!
Recommendation Note: I always encourage people to read what makes them happy. If it sounds good, read it! My reviews are just that, my opinions. I do, however, hope they are helpful and provide a little insight in helping you to determine the next book you chose to read. Happy reading, friends.
Reckless Chance* by JD Carothers offers a thrilling blend of romance and mystery set against the vibrant backdrop of a Vegas casino. The accidental marriage trope is executed with charm and humor, as Lowri and Cartwright navigate their unexpected union amidst personal and professional chaos.
Lowri's character is a standout—gorgeous, intelligent, and delightfully spunky. Her chemistry with Cartwright is palpable, and their constant flirting and sizzling interactions keep the story lively and engaging. Cartwright’s reluctance towards marriage adds a layer of tension, making their developing relationship both frustrating and endearing.
The murder mystery subplot adds an intriguing layer of suspense to the narrative. The chaos surrounding the casino, from the murder on the casino floor to the mafia connections, keeps the stakes high and the pages turning. This blend of romance and mystery ensures that there’s never a dull moment. I thoroughly enjoyed
Kit Swan and Robert Hatchett’s narration is superb, bringing the characters to life with distinct voices and emotional depth. Swan captures Lowri’s spunk and wit perfectly, while Hatchett’s portrayal of Cartwright’s internal conflict and charm is spot-on. Their narration enhances the listening experience, making it immersive and thoroughly enjoyable.
I loved this series so much and Lowris character definitely felt like someone I could relate to being strong willed and very much into her work when it’s go time. I loved the plot, the mystery and the oops Vegas wedding! So much fun, spice and love plus we see old books characters as well ❤️ highly recommend for cozy mystery but spicy loving readers ❤️
Reckless Chance Love Over Murder, Book 3 By J.D. Carothers Narrated by: Robert Hatchet, Kit Swann
I can not get enough of this amazing J.D. Carothers’ “Love Over Murder” series, a series of standalone novels that have the perfect blend of murder mystery and romantic suspense. For the third book of the series, she brings us back to Las Vegas, Sean Cartwright’s casino, where the first book, “Rival Secrets”, Cassie and Evan’s story, took place, and another not to be missed novel. Evan is surprising Cassie and asked his friend, Sean, to help, as well as help from Cassie’s friend Lowri. Neither Evan nor Cassie were aware of the fling Sean and Lowri had the last time Lowri was there, but it did not matter since neither were interested in relationships or doing repeats. Except the chemistry between those two was too strong to deny, and the two wound up hooking up even before their friend’s arrival in Vegas. The two partied hard and had too much to drink and accidentally wound up married, but agreed to keep it between them while getting it annulled, except Sean hits a road bump. He runs into problems in the casino too, a murder on the set for the casino’s performance show and then unexplained incidents and accidents. He asks Lowri, who is an attorney, to help with the investigation. It was great to watch Lowri and Sean get to know each other better and watch their relationship morph into something so much more, it also great watching the investigation unfold. There is never a dull moment in this book, and the author does a great job of keeping guessing with the who done it storylines, adding twists and turns to steer in different directions. It is a cleverly plotted story with the perfect balance of drama, angst, mystery, thrilling suspense, heartfelt emotions, and steamy romance. J.D. Carothers, thank you for another excellent story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 Robert Hatchet and Kit Swann were fabulous with bringing these characters to life, giving each a voice that was fitting, accents and all. I loved how they took each role and made it their own, sounding believable and just as I imagined the characters to sound. Both were amazing in the lead roles, grasping every aspect of their personality, with Swann showcasing Lowri’s perfectly, from her fierceness to her determination, and her insecurities, that she hid well. Hatchet was just as fabulous as Sean, nailing his demeanor perfectly, too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. These two made a great narration team, with voices and talent that complemented each other and an entertaining performance that kept you riveted to the story.
Book 3 in Carothers’s Love over Murder series has Sean Cartwright and Lowri Upton (BFFs to Evan and Cassie from book 1) return to take on the MC roles. While RC is the conclusion to this trilogy of stories, Carothers seems to have dropped some breadcrumbs to follow some of the secondary characters into a spin-off. Throughout the series, she’s shown a knack for layering the secondaries in such a way that makes this a successful practice and that trend continues here. On top of that, the book works well on its own terms, and made for an enjoyable romantic suspense outing. When the setup and payoff of the suspense plot came together, I found it to be a satisfying conclusion.
Sean and Lowri made a great team, both romantically as well as in hoe they come together to handle the mystery plot as a team. These two felt like a more believable “sleuthing” duo than prior couples, maybe because there wasn’t a royal subplot happening concurrently. Instead there are more grounded tropes to anchor the characters. First there is some “we’ve already been together and can’t forget each” physical attraction vying with their mutual, yet differently motivated, commitment-averse attitudes. Then things shift, and I enjoyed the variation on waking up married, because it wasn’t the typical approach. Finally, the morph into a marriage of convenience (albeit one-sided) made for some interesting tension; and the fact that the particulars of that didn’t snowball out into an overly typical third act misunderstanding was a pleasant surprise. It seems like a lot trope-wise, but I thought Carothers’s struck a consistent balance throughout. Plus these MCs are just so darn likable, and I had a good time following their love story. They had a nice balance between heat and companionship that made their connection feel believable.
The audiobook was very good. Kit Swann’s and Robert Hatchet’s performances were fine matches for their characters and for each other. Swann has a smoky voice that fit Lowri across the varied scenarios and emotions throughout the book; I found her delivery compelling. And Hatchet was a great Sean; he was successfully able to hit the blend of confidence, humor, and sexiness of Carothers’s MMC. Working together and with Carothers’s words, both narrators delivered an exceptional listening experience.
With appealing MCs, strong narrator performances, and a solid romantic suspense plot, book 3 in Carothers’s Love over Murder series is well worth a listen.
I’m grateful to have received an ALC copy of the audiobook via Home Cooked Books. I also read the book via KU. All opinions expressed are my own.
I LOVE this series and didn't know what to expect with book 3 but its safe to say this is my favourite one yet. You have to listen to the audiobook version because it is dual narration from Kit Swann and Robert Hatchet who are FANTASTIC as Lowri and Sean.
I really enjoyed the seamless twining of an accidental Vegas marriage/ fake marriage love story with a classic murder mystery when a man is killed during a spectacular show at the Vegas hotel Sean owns. Throw in the return of the Evan and Cassandra from Book 1 and a surprise birthday party and this has all the elements of a story I just couldn't put down.
I love the connection between Lowri and Sean and how they are both relationship phobic, for every different reasons, and yet find themselves inextricably drawn to each other and gel so naturally as a team as they work to uncover the culprit behind the accidents and murder dogging the Athena Hotel. Its a lovely example of a couple supporting each other and complementing each other in a really beautiful and natural way. This is a skill of JD Carothers writing, I was instantly captivated by the characters and believed in their burgeoning relationship.
Kit Swann is OUTSTANDING as Lowri, her performance was sparkling and just pitch perfect. At once vulnerable, sassy, confident and her comedic timing is excellent. I particularly love Chapter 8 and her performance of when they wake up from the night before to realise the drunken wedding is real. Trust me, you will love it. Robert Hatchet is her perfect narrator partner, he's a favourite of mine anyway with his suave and rich rumbling voice but is excellent with his performance and delivering the inner monologues of Sean as he tries to talk himself. He also has leading man energy in this, exuding the possessive man in love willing to do anything for the woman he loves but really not ready to admit that to himself.
Another example of a perfect narrator pairing with the right author and story. Its a classic summer read and it will just whisk you away.
You would think the owner of a hotel and casino in Vegas would know better than to drink on an empty stomach but it seems like commitment-phobe Sean Cartwright can be just as fallible as the tourists who flock to his city and we all know what happens when they get drunk in Vegas, yep you guessed it, Sean ended up married! The bride in question was Lowri Upton, a lawyer he’d had a fling with a couple of weeks before. They’d been thrown together again to plan a party for a mutual friend and pretty much before they could say ‘I Do’ found themselves waking up together the next day apparently married! And if his personal life wasn’t already complicated enough, his business life was starting to implode as well.
I liked the mystery and suspense element of Reckless Chance and even if the eventual outcome of the plot was a bit predictable, it was still well laid out and easy to follow while setting a smooth and steady pace. I wasn’t really keen on the hero though. Sean’s attitude towards Cassie in the first book hadn’t endeared him to me and he didn’t do much to redeem himself here as he appeared more concerned with the visual of how things looked rather than what really mattered, especially in the way he treated his old school friend Paxton as a dirty secret he was ashamed of. Despite not liking Sean, there was a definite chemistry between him and Lowri, and even though both were anti relationship, they did make a strong team as they worked together to solve murder. I also enjoyed all little details regarding the entertainment at the Grand Athena and the whole concept of a pyrobatics treasure hunt sounded amazing, same as the idea of acrobats putting on a performance as they retrieved bottles of wine, I’d definitely be up for a visit to Pinot & Pie to watch that alone. With the hints dropped through Reckless Chance about a mafia boss and his broken heart hopefully it won’t be long before we’re returning to Vegas for more mystery and suspense from this author.
J.D. Carothers' third installment in the Love Over Murder series takes readers back to the electrifying setting of Las Vegas, where Sean Cartwright's casino once again becomes the epicentre of romance and intrigue. Known for seamlessly blending murder mystery with romantic suspense, Carothers delivers a gripping narrative that intertwines the lives of Sean, a casino owner, and Lowri, an attorney with a knack for unravelling complex puzzles. The story kicks off with an unexpected twist, Sean and Lowri's wild night leads to an impromptu marriage, complicating their lives amid a backdrop of sinister happenings at the casino. As they delve into a murder investigation that threatens the casino's reputation, their chemistry becomes undeniable and evolves into a profound connection. Carothers' adept storytelling keeps the reader engaged with masterful plot twists and dynamic character development, ensuring that every page is filled with suspense, emotion, and passion. This novel promises an exhilarating read, with its perfect blend of heart-pounding mystery and sizzling romance, capturing the essence of love and danger in the city that never sleeps. Robert Hatchet and Kit Swann delivered exceptional performances, bringing their characters to life with remarkable authenticity and skill. Their ability to provide each character with a distinctive voice, complete with fitting accents, was impressive, making the characters sound exactly as one might imagine. Swann's portrayal of Lowri was particularly noteworthy, as she conveyed her fierceness, determination, and hidden insecurities with precision. Likewise, Hatchet excelled as Sean, capturing his demeanour perfectly. Together, they set the ideal tone for the story, immersing listeners in the characters' emotions and enhancing the narrative's impact. Their complementary voices and talents created an entertaining and engaging experience, keeping audiences captivated throughout the performance.
J.D. Carothers' "Reckless Chance" delivers a heady mix of romantic comedy, suspense, and a dash of mafia intrigue, all wrapped up in an entertaining audiobook experience. The premise is classic: a drunken, accidental marriage sets the stage for a forced proximity romance, fueled by sizzling chemistry and reluctant attraction.
The narrative centers on a resort owner who finds himself unexpectedly wed to Lowri, the woman of his dreams, while facing the threat of losing his inheritance if they part ways too quickly. Carothers effectively balances the comedic elements of their awkward situation with genuine emotional depth. The protagonist's internal conflict—his desire for Lowri versus his aversion to marriage due to past trauma—creates compelling tension.
The audiobook's pacing is brisk, propelling the listener through a series of escalating events. The added layers of a murder mystery on the casino floor and mafia involvement introduce a suspenseful edge, preventing the story from becoming solely a romance. The narration captures the playful banter and emotional vulnerability of the characters, enhancing the overall listening experience.
While the "accidental marriage" trope is familiar, Carothers injects fresh energy into it with engaging dialogue and well-developed characters. Lowri is portrayed as a strong, independent woman, and the protagonist's gradual shift from reluctant partner to devoted husband feels earned. The supporting cast adds depth to the story, and the backdrop of the bustling resort provides a vibrant setting.
Ultimately, "Reckless Chance" offers a satisfying blend of romance, humor, and suspense, making it a delightful listen for those seeking a lighthearted yet engaging story.

🎧 Audiobook Review 🎧
I'm grateful to Home Cooked Books for the ALC for this story. I loved this series so much, but I really think this was my favorite of the three books.
I absolutely loved the chemistry between Sean and Lowri and how fun their relationship was. To the point that they got married by literal accident because they thought they were just posing for some photos, and it was all fake. The moment they realized it was all real was absolutely hilarious. I also loved how easily Lowri could switch from fun, outgoing, party girl, to serious professional when the moment called for it, like when they witnessed the accident during one of the shows at Sean's hotel, and whenever she was working on trying to solve the mystery.
I completely adored how Sean knew that an acceptable grand gesture for Lowri would not be flashy things, but rather a cozy night in would do wonders for winning her over again. He also understood when to give her time to process everything without allowing her to push him away too much. Lowri in turn, is a badass boss bitch who knows her worth and did not let Sean get away with his actions without some groveling.
The narration was done in dual style, and I enjoyed every minute of it. Kit Swann and Robert Hatchet brought all the happiness, the drunkeness, the pain, the spice, and everything in between to the table.
Quote: “When I arrived here, I wondered if there would be magical moments, mysterious men, or more mayhem. I never imagined there would be all three...”
🎧Audio book/ 📖 ebook Review Narrated by Kit Swann and Robert Hatchet
Carothers wraps up her Love Over Murder series with Sean and Lowri’s story. Both were prominent characters in book 1, Rival secrets, supporting their best friends Evan and Cassie during their love story. They shared a few steamy encounters back then knowing it was all fun and temporary. Months later, in Reckless Chance, they reunite to celebrate Cassie’s culinary debut and the sparks are still there so why not have some more fun. But, OOPS! They find themselves married after a drunken night of fun.
Now, Sean and Lowri are dealing with an annulment and a possible murder on the hotel premises while they both fight their growing attraction for each other. Throw in a few white lies, some forced proximity, Sean fighting his confirmed bachelor status and you have an entertaining story that will have you cozying up to try and solve the murder.
Kit Swann and Robert Hatchet narrated this light hearted romance. Kit’s deeper register was spot on when she voiced Sean’s parts and she has a sultry inflection that fit Lowri’s sassiness to perfection. Robert’s narration had a lighter tone which matched Sean’s fun-loving side. The book has characters with different accents and both narrators were fantastic in their authenticity.
I’m surprised at how excited I am to be back at the Athena hotel in Vegas. I so loved how thoroughly the author laid out the hotel in book 1 of the series. I really wanted this hotel to be a reality so I can visit.
What do you get when you mix an accidental wedding in Vegas with a murder mystery? A very good story, I’ll tell you that! This book is a fun mix of humor, romance, and suspense.
The book follows the funny and sassy Lowri and the lovely Sean. Their chemistry is CLEAR as day. Unlike many couples who have different views on relationships, Lowri and Sean both hate them. You can guess what happens next, right? The book is filled with funny banter and moments that will make you laugh.
Even though they don't like relationships, Lowri and Sean can't help but be drawn to each other. I found myself cheering for them the whole time, wanting to see how their relationship would grow. Their dynamic is heartwarming and hilarious, adding a lot of fun to the story.
The mystery set in a fancy hotel is done perfectly. The twists and turns keep you guessing, and the secrets are revealed bit by bit, keeping you hooked.
Throughout the book, we see Lowri and Sean grow as people. They support each other, which is lovely to see. Their journey together through the mystery and their relationship is well written and engaging.
J.D. Carothers, you’ve done an amazing job. The mix of humor, romance, and mystery is just right, and the characters are so well-developed that you think about them even after you finish the book. This book is a fun escape, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an enjoyable read.
* I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Reckless Chance Love over Murder, Book 3 By: J.D. Carothers Narrated by: Kit Swann, Robert Hatchet
I cannot say enough good things about this series. I was so excited to start this one, as what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right? Lowri is in town to help Sean plan for a surprise for Cassie. These two have a history, but since neither was interested in a relationship, they knew working together for this would not be a problem. Except their chemistry is, and when a drunk night leads to a wedding, things get sticky. And the story begins. Now to keep Lowri in town for situation Sean has with his company, and helping solve a murder that has happened in his hotel seems to be the answer. But what will happen when all the feelings and all the secrets come out? This is spicy, fast paced and action packed. I love a good romantic suspense and JD Carothers delivers every time. Twists, turns, love, and surprises kept me guessing, just the way I love it. This series is fantastic.
Kit Swann and Robert Hatchet could not have been a better team picked for this narration. Swann is amazing as Lowri. She gives her the independence and leadership that Lowri commands as well as the flirtiness and love. Hatchet is Sean, full of romance, the hider of secrets and the one who falls the hardest. All the feels comes through his voice. I loved these two together and enjoyed their performance.
This charming accidental marriage romance with a bit of mystery will take you on a journey with so many twists and turns that all you can do is hold on to your seat and enjoy the ride! Sean and Lowri meet again in Vegas to help their friends with their wedding. They had a clandestine passionate night together before, never expecting a repeat. But a few too many drinks and a misunderstanding results in them accidentally getting married. But when they try to have it annulled, Sean discovers a reason to keep them together. Neither Sean or Lowri are looking for a commitment, but enjoy their fiery chemistry while they are together. When mysterious accidents happen in Sean's resort, he asks Lowri to help him investigate. But as she gets close to the truth, her life is at risk as well. Sean soon realizes he can't lose her, but when she learns he is keeping secrets, will she walk away anyway, breaking both their hearts? This is my first book by this author and she took my on a riveting journey that kept me on the edge until the very satisfying end. The narration by Robert Hatchet and Kit Swann is excellent! They both fully immerse you in this story so easily, helping us experience all of the sweet and steamy romance, heartfelt emotions, and the unraveling of the mystery and suspense that drive this story. They are both fantastic performers and the perfect choices to bring these characters and story to life!
Reckless Chance is the third installment in JD Carothers’ Love Over Murder series, and it delivered the perfect blend of romance, chaos, and suspense. This time we follow Sean, the owner of a luxury hotel, and Lowri, a successful lawyer. After a past fling that never quite fizzled out, they’re thrown back together to help plan a celebration for mutual friends… and things spiral fast.
One wild night out, some drinks, and, oops, they wake up married. Due to legal complications (that I won’t spoil), they’re forced to stay married for three months. And during that time? Let’s just say the drama doesn’t stop at their relationship. The hotel becomes a magnet for mysterious and unfortunate incidents, keeping the stakes high and the tension thick.
Their chemistry is undeniable, and watching their relationship evolve amidst all the chaos was such a satisfying ride. There’s just enough angst to keep it interesting, balanced perfectly with emotional depth and heat.
Now let’s talk about the audiobook Robert Hatchet and Kit Swann were phenomenal. This was my first time hearing either of them, and they absolutely nailed their performances. They brought so much personality and emotion to Sean and Lowri that I couldn’t imagine the characters without their voices. Their duet narration elevated the story and made it even more immersive.
If you’re into forced proximity, accidental marriage, and romance tangled with a thread of suspense, Reckless Chance is a fantastic listen!
Sean and Lowri met through mutual friends and had a short, wild fling that ended with them deciding that their tryst was a one-time event and they would part ways as platonic friends. But when their friends decide to come back to Vegas, where Sean runs one of the biggest casinos on the strip, they are forced together for a couple weeks as they help plan a surprise party for their friends.
The moment Sean hears that Lowri will be back in his orbit, he decides that being platonic isn't on his agenda and plans to woo himself back into her good graces. Unbeknownst to Sean, she has plans to let him back in because she wants a round two just as much. After dinner and two too many drinks, they end up making some drunken mistakes that only complicate their relationship even further.
But during the opening of the new acrobatic stage show, tragedy strikes, and the show is shut down while an investigation starts. As Sean and Lowri continue to work together, they start to let each other in and fighting their apprehensions, they start to fall in love. Combating lies, deciet, and danger, their budding relationship is put to the test, and solving the mystery is such an action-packed journey!
Rob Hatchet and Kit Swann did a great job bringing these characters to life. Showcasing the vulnerability and raw emotions of their characters so well, adding depth to the performances and the story as a whole.
This is the third book in the Love Over Murder Series and I just LOVE this series. I have been drawn into this series so easily and I don't want it to end. The story and the characters in this book were well written and enjoyable. You won't want to stop listening once you start so clear your day out so you can just listen to this book.
The narrators were Kit Swann and Robert Hatchet. They were perfect to tell this story. They have such great voices . They kept me entertained and held my attention throughout the entire audiobook.
Lowri and Sean were the perfect pair. They both didn't want to be in relationships but they had so much chemistry they couldn't deny it. I love a good marriage of convenience story and this one didn't disappoint at all!!
There is a lot of mystery to this story with a lot of small accidents happing at the Athena hotel. Then one night one of the accidents turn into a murder and Sean needs help solving this crime. So he asks Lowri to help as his lawyer to figure out what's going on at his hotel. There are so many interesting and fun moments in this book that you wont be able to stop the book. I laughed and swooned with these two. I highly recommend this book and this series!
Thank you Home Cooked Books for allowing me to listen to this ALC for my honest opinion.
3rd book in the series, characters link more to book 1 than book 2. Stand alone quality is good so you can just start here if you want.
Lowri and Sean are not commitment people. Seeing them negotiate their desire to chuck the "no repeats" rule out the window when they end up working together on a party planning project is delightful. Layering too many sample cocktails with a desire to be part of a wedding picture record attempt (guess what, we're in Vegas, that wedding isn't fake) and a fantastic stage show riddled with accidents that come to light after an audience member doesn't survive their 5 minutes of spotlight... there are so many threads that are woven into this really fun story.
The mystery, the puzzle solving, the accidental marriage and keeping it secret... the way they both are keeping things from each other while the temporary marriage starts to feel anything but... there was so much to enjoy from start to finish.
The audiobook was performed by Kit Swann and Robert Hatchet. I love them both and when they end up in my earbuds I remember that I want to listen to more of them. Kit gave some beautiful emotions from Lowri, we got professional badass lawyer Lowri, we got have a good time and let it all go Lowri and we got emotionally scarred but hopeful Lowri. Her journey grabbed me hard and make me feel. Rob as Sean was smooth and melty, I loved him as the commanding boss, the protective husband and the vulnerable man who makes more than one mistake. But I think I love hiccupping drunk Sean the best, it was such a fun scene to listen to Rob deliver.
I requested and was provided with a copy of the audiobook. These are my honest opinions.
Another wonderfully written who done it book in this series. The narrators did a fantastic job. They really put a lot of emotion into bringing these characters to life. This is Lowri and Sean's story and what a nail biter it was. It was very fast paced with lots of steam, angst, suspense and twists to throw you off what actually happened. Sean and Lowri are the best friends of Evan and Cassandra from the first book, so we get to catch up with them as well. Both of them are firmly no marriage but in a twist of fate that's what happens and they find out "What happens in Vegas doesn't stay in Vegas". Lowri has a "don't mix business and pleasure rule" that she tries so hard to follow but Sean just slyly breaks down her walls. These two have amazing chemistry and an undeniable connection which is clear in every interaction. I truly can't say enough good things about this book and series. I love how each book is one couples journey to an HEA all while trying to solve whatever is going on around them. I highly recommend this 5 star book.
I was sent an advanced copy audiobook from HCB and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
~*~ Audiobook Review ~*~ Reckless Chance hits the ground running with an accidental marriage between Lowri and Sean, both of whom are determined to never settle down. They are embroiled in a fast-paced murder mystery adding suspense to their unintended but thoroughly enjoyable forced proximity predicament. I really enjoyed their story as they navigate a true friendship and unmistakable attraction in direct opposition to their stubborn denial of all things romantic. They work so well together and navigate the twists and turns to unravel the mystery of the sabotage and murder at Sean’s hotel. I really enjoyed how their relationship progresses through the story. The narration by Kit Swann and Robert Hatchet is excellent! They both fully immerse you in the story with ease so you can experience all of the steamy moments, twists and turns, and the unraveling of the mystery and suspense that drive the story. They are both fantastic performers and the perfect choices to bring this story to life!
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟/🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧 Format: Audiobook - Dual narration by Kit Swann and Robert Hatchet Series / Standalone: Interconnected Standalone (Love Over Murder Book 3) Tropes: Romantic Suspense/Murder Mystery, Accidental marriage, Forced Proximity, Friends to Lovers
Thanks to Homecooked Books and the author for this ALC - all opinions are my own
If you like suspense with your romance, this series is perfect for you. They are interconnected but complete standalones. I loved the accidental marriage aspect. It was done so well and believably which often isn’t the case. The murder mystery will keep you engaged and with the added heroine in danger micro trope, this one is not to be missed.
The audio production was flawless. Both main narrators brought so much life and personality to their characters and it was so easy to get lost in the story. They each performed the dual narration in such a way it was easy to follow the different characters. Another great audiobook in the series!
I'm so glad I had the opportunity to listen to my first J.D. Carothers book. I'm a big fan of romantic suspense and Reckless Chance gave the perfect blend of romance, spice, suspense, and such real and likable characters.
The dual narration by Kit Swann and Robert Hatchet as Lowri and Sean was incredible. The narrators can really make or break an audiobook for me and they were as great a team as our MC's.
The suspense and who done it kept me guessing until the culprit was revealed. I'll admit I had it wrong and was pleasantly surprised by how everything played out.
I loved the way Sean and Lowri worked together to solve the case, and ended up falling in love with all the danger and trouble around them. They were both such strong and dominant characters, and that doesn't usually work well for a couple, but for them it just did.
I enjoyed this so much that I'm going back to enjoy the first two in the series. And also hoping to get to enjoy some of those breadcrumbs on another couple soon...
This is book #3 in the Love over Murder series. I have read the first 2 books & loved them a lot. The third book was just a great addition to this series.
Sean has inherited his father's hotel and casino. Life for Sean has been about work and making the hotel and casino as successful as possible. Lowri has been working her butt off as an attorney. Now after a night of getting drunk together, they are married. In Vegas!! What would you do if you found out that you were married? Will they stay married? Get an annulment?
I have been waiting for the story about Sean and Lowri and it was perfect! if you are looking for a book or a series with romance and a little bit of murder thrown in, this is the book and series for you!!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. Recommend this book? Yes! Author? Yes! Read more from this author? Yes!
Another fantastic book from J.D Carothers that held my attention from start to finish. It was like I was reading something I would definitely watch in tv. It was the right mix of suspense, mystery, intrigue and romance. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot. She had me on my toes wondering who did it and what was gonna happen next. Sean and Lowrie stole my heart. They had that steamy chemistry that was delish. I loved how they were both strong, fierce, and independent people. They were definitely a dynamic pair, that worked together in all aspects. They both had skewed versions of love and marriage and it was beautiful how their relationship and their feelings evolved and changed their perspective. Sean was so gallant throughout the book, he had me swooning at every turn. I was over the moon to find a new and interesting writer when I read Rival Secrets but this book definitely solidifies me as a JD Carothers fan.
Story - ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Spice - 🌶🌶 Narration - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Reckless Chance is book #3 in the Love Over Murder series. Sean is the owner of The Athena, a hotel/casino in Vegas. Lowrie is back in town to plan a party for her bestie, Cassie (from book #1). These two decide to forget their rule of "no seconds" after hooking up months ago, spend a night drinking, and wake up married. Neither want a relationship of ANY kind because of their parents, but for completely different reasons. Sabotage, secrets, and second thoughts on love keep things hopping for this couple. The author has delivered a fantastic series of romantic suspense that keeps your attention from start to finish. Loved this!
The narration is fantastic. I have mad love for Robert Hatchet and his versatility. Kit Swann isn't a new narrator to me, but I don't hear her near enough for my liking. These two were so dang good! 5/5 stars!!!
She’s the princess best friend and this story is her magical love story. The FMC is a successful lawyer, that had a one nightstand with a successful businessman. She wasn’t expecting to work with him to host a birthday for her best friend in request from the king. She’s not ready to see him again but she has to suck it up and deal with it. She accidentally ended up married to him when she ends up hanging out with him in Las Vegas. The chemistry between these two is undeniable and the spicy scenes are delicious. The murder mystery gives the story more engagement and entertainment. I absolutely loved this story and I definitely recommend it. You can definitely read it as a standalone but I recommend you to read the series from the first book. I feel you will enjoy the storyline more especially because previous chapters will pop up throughout the books. Robert Hatchet and Kit Swann did a fantastic job narrating this story.
Sean is a successful businessman who isn’t looking for love or a relationship which only made the one night he and Lowri agreed on even more enticing. What they shared would end there until their lives were entwined once again at his casino where a little too much fun led to an impromptu marriage and now he is trying to deal with upheavals in his personal and professional life.
Lowri is a successful lawyer who is content being single until she finds herself married. As she spends time with Sean the feelings she has for him extend beyond the physical especially when they try to uncover what and who is behind the threats that continue to escalate at the casino.
As much as Lowri and Sean were determined to be single when they follow their hearts they find themselves just as committed to each other as the surprises keep coming. Robet Hatchet brings out the swoon factor of Sean while Kit Swann portrays both her independent and feisty personality.
Dual narration - Kit Swann & Robert Hatchet Love these two narrators so much!
I really enjoyed this book.
Sean is a casino owner in Vegas and the best friend to a prince. When Prince Evan calls to plan a party for his girlfriend Cassie, he also enlisted the help of Cassie’s best friend Lowri to help.
Sean and Lowri had a hot weekend a few months ago but said that was it just once. Until they are forced back into each others orbit they quickly realize they still have attraction. A drunken night in Vegas and a misunderstanding they end up married.
Sean finds out there is a marriage class to his inheritance and needs Lowri to stay with him longer. He gets her to stay by hiring her to be his lawyer.
This is a romance story with a murder mystery twist.
I don't even know where to start with this one because there is so much to adore about this audiobook.
It starts with a series of events, drinking to accidental Vegas Wedding! Sean and Lowri decide to annul, but due to a clause in his inheritance Sean must stay married for three months! He convinces Lowri to stay in Vegas and chaos follows! They enjoy a lot of spicy times and suddenly at Seans hotel there's a series of accidents and a murder. Much of the book is spent solving the mystery and the growing relationship between these two.
I love mysteries and I love romance so this was pure joy to listen to!
Robert Hatchett and Kit Swann delivered a wonderful performance that kept you glued to the story the entire time.
I highly recommend this fun listen. I rate this 4.5 stars
