Our King, Our Master #1

A King to Be Claimed

Rate this book
Blessed by the gods and goddesses, edoli have lived alongside humans for thousands of years. While some hold such abilities as shape-shifting and controlling the elements, the rarest are the kings and queens who can bond through blood with keepers and amplify their power… and their own.

Titos has been seen as useless and weak his entire life. He’s never been able to bond with another edoli and has nothing of value to offer his queen. Exiled and alone, he’s spent years living amongst humans and away from other edoli in the hope of avoiding execution.

When a stranger saves him from certain death, Titos’s life will never be the same.

Seth isn’t just some random stranger: he’s absolutely gorgeous and claims to have been drawn to Titos to serve him as his keeper. He assures Titos he is a king, and a powerful one at that. Never in his wildest dreams could Titos have imagined he was someone special.

But a king isn’t all Titos is…

After nearly killing Seth during their bonding, Titos is terrified of his abilities. Luckily, Seth isn’t the only keeper drawn to Titos’s call, and Mazki knows what to do to save Seth’s life.

The connection between Titos, Seth, and Mazki is immediate and strong, and it isn’t long before Adom and Kail are drawn to Titos as well. But now that Titos has accepted his birthright, they all know that it won’t be long before the edoli council comes for him.

Running from homicidal hunters and trying to stay hidden from the council, Titos knows he doesn’t have long to prepare. Sooner than he’d like, he’ll have to fight to defend what he and his keepers are building.

And his very life.

A King to Be Claimed contains a HFN ending, scenes with multiple partners, poly-style harem mild blood play, and a king who just wants to be loved.

A book that could have been good but wasn't.
The porn was too over the top. Everybody just wanted to jump everyone all the time. The plot itself was more of a side note. And in general the characters thoughts were very jumpy, the relationships developed in a matter of minutes and they even loved each other, although they just met. It feels like it's written by a teenager. There is no depth to the story or the characters.

I'm really sorry, but I didn't like it.

What is pornier than porn? Well, this series, actually!

I had an unexpectedly positive reaction to Chosen One (Macy Blake). It's the type of books I don't usually mention on my read shelf but that one was too enjoyable for me to ignore it. Even if it had a guy who we see get about 8 boyfriends. Yes, I do feel ridiculous and absurd and hide-under-the-rock just writing that. But, no matter my reasons, it wouldn't be fair not to show my appreciation, when it was deserved.

So I gave this book a chance. Sounded so similar and if I was wrong before, why not now? But while Chosen One was a relatively, all things considered, solid, very romance filled and action and paranormal filled and sex filled book - this one was like pure porn. Purer porn than actual porn. Kissing in front of anyone and everyone... losing clothes in inappropriate times... 80% time spend nude and doing it kind of book. 50 shades has nothing on this sex fest inside an orgy.

A strange guy barges into the room in the middle of sex? Let's have sex with him as well! See a guy I like (sorry, fated person) - well, as long as he's some kind of unicorn-level unique creature, sure, let's add him!

I am not even sure where am I getting with this whole speech. Since I read this book. And the next one. Though it's definitely not for the intelligent conversation. Trust me on that. The style was one of those absurd and, sorry, very basic. Yes, that can be a good thing but especially the second book showed advancing plot is a hard fight for Titos. Every single decision tires him out and he has to go to sleep (of curse, after getting thoroughly worn out, *wink*). There was, fortunately, sharing involved, not just like some harem thingies do, when The One is the one and has to service all his multiple partners who kind of depend at him for any action in bed, the poor thing.

Still, what you can basically expect from this book is:
- sex can happen anytime
- especially when you don't expect it
- or it shouldn't happen because an important thing is happening
- other people around make space and time for the aforementioned sex
- you don't have to worry about a plot, it consists of driving in a car so they can have sex in the car as well
- hurt-soothe as strong as the strongest whiskey
- finding insta-love/fated love when everyone from your world is out to get you and kill you
- did I mention the sex?
- insanely, and I do mean INSANELY loyal and panting and salivating to please love interests
- "oh no, Titus's not absolutely, deliriously happy, I am a wretch for causing that"
- some people can totally like this
-...
- sex
- am I trying to come up with more reasons
- are there any more reasons besides the sex and insta-love?
- does this review have a point?
- ...

*Sigh*

So I am not actually sure why I read it, since I was kind of looking down on the style that felt simplistic and, as I said, more than porny but if simplicity and feeling appreciated and getting accepted is what you're after... or just want some... other kind of reading material... sure, pick this one. Or you want to just have a laugh and see how weird relationships can be. Why not. People are weird. I am weird. Let's be free and hug trees and tear and scorch off our clothes because taking them off is just too slow!

*sigh*

Reread February 2020 to refresh my memory on the characters

All the sex really stood out for me this time. Probably would have rated it 3 stars if I read it now for the first time. Hopefully the next one is more relationship building.

Originally read July 2019

Poor Titos. He was on the run from his people who wanted him dead. Imagine his surprise when he is saved from certain death by a tall, dark stranger and is instantly drawn to him. Only to find out that he is a king and is destined to have many in his bed.

This was a gay harem of the supernatural kind. So far there's 4 guys for Titos but more to come. I did feel things needed a little more fleshing out with this world and things were, at times, rushed but I still enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to more in this series.

A Joyfully Jay review.

2.5 stars

For all the world building, this story is mostly focused on the erotic elements. It wasn’t until a third of the way into the book that I knew Titos’ race drank blood. It wasn’t until halfway that the book stopped for an exposition, which was so very, very clumsy. Character A explains to Character B about something (“A hunter does X, a tracker does Y”) only to have Character B repeat it right back almost verbatim. A character would think “we should be careful not to involve the humans” only for another character to say, out loud, “we shouldn’t involve the humans.” Even the erotic elements were more talked about. “I want to do this super sexy thing to you,” and described in graphic detail, but when it came time for the sex to happen … Titos would be walking through a mindscape of a snowy wood to find a phoenix, or stopping to pet an ice manticore wolf in a cave. It was just jumbled and confusing. I appreciated that there is obviously a great deal of effort put into the intricate world building, it just didn’t come out smoothly or understandably.

A king to be claimed fits into the erotica book section, although the story is intriguing (but moving very slowly).

Titos is misunderstood by his family. They think his human side makes him weak and have never given him the chance to come into his own. Now he’s on the run to avoid being murdered.

As Titos runs he begins to find out who he is and gain allegiances from people that believe in him.

Audiobook read. I found the voice a little whiny but it does fit with the character. The story is a 4 star but as others have said there are too much steamy scenes in this.

A King to be Claimed is the first book in a continuous series which I won’t be continuing, however I would consider looking at other books by this author. The ideas are good I’d just like more of them and less steam.

Reading for RARE.

no stars for this one... i don't think i understood what the purpose of the book was since it was all about the sex haha jesus.

it was:

Titos (said like Titus not Titos vodka haha) pretty much keeling over running for his life, then he almost dies, but is saved by a "keeper" who is devoted to him right away. the "keeper" (Seth) almost dies from sex, then bam another "keeper" (Mazki) Kool-Aid man bursts through the door and tells Titos how to save Seth then poof its like they are all in love and bonded..

i wish for less sex talk and more battle or fighting action, this had the makings for a really cool fantasy book, but jeez these dudes need to take a chill pill for the sex haha Titos was pretty much feeling like death and they were doing it. idk i don't think this book is for me. the writing was pretty good, but when the "keepers" all bonded with Titos, they could all talk in mental links, so after that not a lot of physical talking was done haha.

How does this book have so many high ratings.

No. Just no.

Someone described it as having the feeling of being written by a hormonal girl on Wattpad and that pretty much sums it up. (No disrespect to some of the fun stuff I've read on Wattpad.) But... It's porn without plot y'all. Just...no.

Hey! But not yucking your yum if you uh..yum this... I'm just not going to keep going.

Jesus. 😳😑

Well what happens to authors hindered by a global pandemic. Ya get Plural Relationships package up in shifter mechanics or markers of Alpha, Houses, and humans are none the wiser.

This is a no holds bar introduction into the world of Edoli. Beings that can use elemental power, some shift, others are hunters and the one drop of talent are scouts, all others are servants. So it's like back in the medieval times setup.

Let's introduce Titos, the unwanted burden of his Aunt and Uncle. Considered weak, and none want to share blood with him. Did I neglect to mention they can get stronger through the drinking of blood. Not vampirism!

When everyone looks down on you. Show them how useful you can be. Titos can hunt down deer like it's nobody's business. Still that's not enough. So before they can plot his end. Off to the wide world he goes. No muss no fuss! Except the regions Queen sends hunters to terminate him. Can't have the weak tainting the world.

Just when Titos makes hus last stand. His Alpha shows up and saves the day. Alpha just means first. The Keeper that usually blood bonds to the Queen/King. Think paladin or Honor Guards! Have to few, could end one's reign. While too many....

Brea Alepoú is good at writing poly stories with characters who have distinct personalities and with their own particular relationships to everyone else in the polycule without it getting overly complex or hard to follow. I liked the characters in this book, especially their protectiveness and subservience to Titos. But the book felt a bit too short, like it ended just as things were getting started.

I struggled with the narration of this book, since the narrator (John Solo) had a staccato, sometimes almost William Shatner-esque way of speaking that took me out of the story. It also wasn't until halfway through the book that I realized that a lot of what I thought was dialogue spoken out loud was actually the characters talking through their telepathic bond.

This is the 2nd book from this author I’ve read. And I would say they were about equal as far as content and story line goes (albeit this one had drastically less gore sex...)

I’m not really sure how many books this author has under their belt but for me this one still felt a little rough around the edges.

While the plot was great, the transitions were sloppy and kind of awkward. We literally went from who the fuck are you, to endless monkey sex, to I love you in a matter of hours... really it was just awkward... and honestly I won’t say this often but this book would have been 10x better with less sex and more plot. There is sooo much to work with in this plot and I felt there was a lot of missed opportunity there.

It’s really interesting with this author as I either really love their books or really don’t. There’s no nice in between. Unfortunately this is one of the ones I really didn’t like. The concept sounded so good but it was almost like the book was written and then the author took out all the parts where they have sex and then published that. There is other things that happen but really all I remember about this book is the insane amount of sex and how within hours of meeting they’re in love. It was crazy to me. I also had a very hard time understanding the story as the world building was nonexistent. Now if you’re looking for a book that has loads of sex and a little bit of action this may be a great book for you!

This was a wonderful lick start to MM Harem Story. From the first page to the last was draw in with these characters that it was hard at time to put the book down. The characters were well written with a little twist built in with some extra power kick of the elements. You will fall in love with Titos, he always thought that he was defect. He is always on the look out for the Queen hunters. we get to meet a few of the Keepers. Cant wait to see what happens in the next book, so waiting. so many question that hope get answer in the next book and see more about the Keepers of the King. Highly recommend this new Harem story today

Insta lust and insta love. Smutty.

Titos’s fingers itched to touch the hard plains of Seth’s chest and his fucking ten pack of abs. Titos hadn’t even known that was possible. He nearly swallowed his tongue.

For the fact that Titos is a virgin at the beginning, it goes from scratch to over the top on the smutty side. As for the plot, well I hope a lot will be explained in the next book ... I am full of hope.

This series reminds me a lot of the Their Vampire Queen series by Joely Sue Burkhart! Besides the fact that the main character here is a man and the story goes a lot faster. Which to me isn't necessary a good thing and the reason I gave it 2 stars. I would have preferred less threats to the MC and the ones still left, better executed.

Loved the concept but in execution it just fell flat. Too intense of a setting and not enough detail around emotions. The instalove was pretty OTT. And some things felt a bit corny - ice wolf manticore? Too much tell, not enough show.

I could see this working well for some but it just didn’t work for me.

Paranormal Erotic Writings

The reader is dropped into this paranormal world with no direction until the halfway point, where the complicated structure is finally defined. In between, there are large amounts of sex and gore, loosely wrapped in a thin story line.

This one could either go really well or really bad. A short intro with the MC collecting his men like Pokemon cards. The alpha kind of fell to the wayside with Mazki and the council guy popping up. Curious about the next one and if there is anymore to add to the mix.

It was... not that good, but I enjoyed it.

Either I picked it up in the right mood or it’s just my sort of book, but I’m willing to forgive all its annoying parts. Which were, exactly:
- infodumping exposition through dialogue
- action scenes are meh
- the plot seems rushed
- insta-lust and lots of sex scenes at seemingly unconventional times (but it can be sort of explained by the nature of their bonds, so you have been warned)
- character development. Please. I need more of it; at the end of the book, they still look more like stereotypes than actual people with stories to tell. (One character is about 700 years old, but all I can say about him is that he’s horny and smart.)

Regardless, 4 stars. This book was not dull; the writing style was okay, as were the smut scenes. I absolutely loved the idea of "mindspace," where shifters' beasts live.

The plot and the characters have potential; they form a group of individuals with very unique backgrounds, and I definitely wouldn’t mind learning more about each of them. (I really do hope they will be more fleshed out in books to come.)

So, yeah, I’ll continue reading the series, but I don’t think this book would be on my "everyone needs to read it right now!" list.

Very Sexy

Rating:★★☆

Seriously, Goodreads needs to allow for half stars because I would give this 3.5 out of 5 if I could.

This was an interesting premise for a book and one I'm looking forward to reading more of. In a world with gods and goddesses, the edoli are a race that have lived along side humans for thousands of years, not unseen - but unrecognized. There are different classes of edoli. Those with the power to bind others to them and amplify their power and the power of those bound to them are called kings or queens. The ones they bind are called keepers, and they have the ability to shapeshift, control the elements and are great warriors that are bound to their master/mistress through blood and the call, sworn to protect them to the death. Hunters are lesser edoli, bound to the Alpha keeper through blood, and are the hunters of the house - or clan - be it prey for food, or other edoli.

This is important to know, as the author doesn't really explain all this until almost half way through the story. There is an appendix of these terms, that might have been better served as a forward as I was a little lost while reading the first few chapters given that the author jumped straight into the story. That being said, the story was good, if a little too wham-bam-thank you Sam.

Titos, the main character, is a half-edoli weakling who has been shunned, ostracized and then condemned to death by his family and the queen of his house. He's never been able to bond with other edoli as blood makes him sick, and is considered not worth any value. In order to avoid being put to death for being weak he ran and has lived in the human world for years, avoiding the hunters sent to kill him. Until his luck runs out.

Cornered and certain death is imminent, Titos is saved by a powerful edoli, Seth, who tells Titos he heard his king's call and came to serve, that Titos is his king and a powerfully rare one at that. Titos, of course doesn't believe it at first but through a series of events, the acquisition of three more keepers, and an earth-shattering revelation about his past, Titos soon has not choice but to believe that he _is_ in fact a king, and one the edoli haven't due to the edoli council hunting them to supposed extinction.

Which means the threat to Titos is far from over. He's still being hunted by his former queen's keeper - his cousin - and sooner or later the council will come for him. It's a race against time for Titos and his keepers to build his power base, secure followers and prepare for the war that is surely to come.

The book has some issues with a relatively fast reversal of fortune, insta-love, and a few other tropes but for the most part I really enjoyed it and will be reading the next book in the series.

Cute. The characters were really sweet. To be honest, I went into “A King to be Claimed” with rather low expectations, so I was not disappointed that it did not turn out to be more than just entertaining. But I did want a lot of spice. And that is what I got. There was almost constant sexual tension that thankfully did not seem filthy. The story was very simple, short and not particularly exciting, but still very sweet, sexy and hot. However, there were a lot of spelling mistakes on those few pages that annoyed me. And I am not even a native English speaker …

So I've read other books by this author and loved them. Went into this one with some decently high expectations, and... it was real rough. The book is basically just Pokemon, Gotta F*ck Em All. Find a stranger that shifts into a cool magical animal, have sex with that stranger, and add them to your bizarrely loyal magical harem that fights for you. The plot holes were just unforgivably gaping. Things like: boy has been alone for 20-some years, but in the next 5 days he'll start magically attracting people for no reason at all. Or, a dozen bad guys already in the building just stare at a wall while the MCs have a 20 minute convo. Or, they say it's so bad to involve humans in their magical dispute and immediately turn into their monster form in public. And so many more. Just... why?

So I guess if you like reading P*rn Without Plot books, you'll probably enjoy this. The characters don't really have any defining characteristics or mannerisms, it falls into that common Reverse Harem issue where the author just wants to keep adding love interests without actually animating those love interests with any personality. They're all interchangeable and forgettable.

Judging by the reviews, my opinion is not common, but I just couldn't even finish this book. Tried twice over two years and DNFed both times. It's pretty impressively bad when you start skimming an audiobook. The blurb and premise were sooooo good, but the end result was just soooooo bad.
