Rate this book
From the award-winning Vellhor Saga—comes Dwarven Prince, a breath-stealing adventure where the clash of steel and the crackle of magic are the only constants.

Can Gunnar rally the fractured clans before the shadows engulf them?

Will he reach Anwyn in time to save her from a fate darker than death?

Can Kemp conquer the darkness lurking within him, or will it consume him?

In a world where ancient prophecies collide with dark magic, where the whispers of forgotten realms echo through the land, and where heroes are forged in the crucible of betrayal and blood...

One dwarf prince must lead his warriors against an unstoppable force. A human mage, unaware of the power within, must master the elements before they consume him. And a former assassin must face the shadows of her past—before they swallow her whole.

As war looms on the horizon, alliances will be tested, secrets will unravel, and destinies will be rewritten.

In a saga where every choice carries the weight of a thousand lives, who will rise? Who will fall? And who will become legend?

Dwarven Prince is the third volume in The Vellhor Saga—a tale of loyalty, betrayal, and the unbreakable bonds forged in battle. Will they stand united, or will the darkness claim them all?

I almost put it down for Fourth Wing but the adventure mixed with romance kept me reading and I’m glad I did.

This was my least favorite of the books so far. It moved a bit slowly initially. I understand the author was setting things up for future storylines, but it made for less enjoyable reading, in my opinion. The ending picked up a few notches, and the situation becomes clearer.

I really tried, but I cannot finish this series. From the constant inner monologues of each character to a paper thin plot, I’m done. It’s mostly written from each character’s inner thoughts it seems and every single time they harden their resolve, have unyielding determination, have the weight of it on them, but the always straighten their spines or have burrowed brows. I picture each character walking around with a frown have a major inner turmoil in every single sentence. I’m not even sure what the actual eff is going on in the book. You read about the inner thoughts about each of them and then all of a sudden the battle is won. I suggest leaving this alone

Well thought out story, BUT…

The author creates a dramatic and entertaining story, but the story keeps getting darker and darker. I may be different from many readers, but I need some lightness breaks as I read a book. The characters in this book are noble and determined to do good, but they really don’t have many happy or non-violent moments. Actually there is one happy moment, but other than this one, it is mostly all darkness and battle violence. Even “the good guys” are getting so violent that they seem less “good”. Am sad to say that I am not sure I care to read the next book in the series….

Mixed bag

The characters and storyline have potential and I really want to like this book, but it is repetitive. Paragraphs and there's even a couple of pages about 58% of the way through that have been rewritten but the original draft still remains in the book so events happen twice.
Descriptions can also be repetitive.
The timeline doesn't always make sense, in that some events are said to take weeks at one point but then years in later chapters.
Finally there are mistakes in names or grammar which removed the momentum of reading whilst I had to reread to try and figure out who or what was actually happening.
If you can overlook these, the story is really good, and I'm hoping that I can overlook the mistakes/continuity errors and finish the book and series.

This is a richly woven epic fantasy that follows Prince Gunnar as he struggles to unite the fractured dwarven clans against a rising darkness. With Anwyn in peril, a haunted assassin seeking redemption, and a human mage teetering on the edge of magical collapse, the story blends emotional depth with high-stakes adventure. Themes of loyalty, prophecy, and sacrifice drive the narrative through a world steeped in ancient magic and political intrigue. This volume deepens the saga’s mythos while setting the stage for an explosive reckoning.

Fantastic

An epic tale worthy of the Vikings, trust and betrayal lurk within the realms in a vicious cycle of good vs evil. Will the dwarves accept Gunnar, his magic and his proposal of unity? You'll have to read to find out--and you won't be disappointed. Action and intrigue will draw you in, the carefully crafted characters will keep you hooked, and the plot will leave you wanting more!

Dark Times

I am not a fan of the dark powers and in previous books I have read, I have turned away from some authors.
However, in the the three Vallhor Saga stories, the powers, both dark and light have been well told and always show that Hope, Love and good can be the beacon from which good will prevail.
Does book 4 conclude the safga? I will find out. Mark Stanley is a good storyteller and I hope his dark side can be vanquished

Good story Line Too Many Repeated Phrases

There could be a really good story here, but there are way too many lines repeated that take away from the read. For example the phrase “a testament to” is used too many times to count and adds nothing to the story. I find the repeats distracting and making me not really wanting to read any further books as each time I come upon a repeated phase I become irritated.

This was my last book in the series that I wanted to read.

This book reminded me of John Wayne's movie "The Alamo." If the characters weren't pontificating, they were murdering their enemies. Too much of the book was spent traveling, and one of the main characters spent the whole book in a coma. Very disappointing flow.

Loving the series. Characters are awesome. On this one I am a bit sad. Even if Kemp can get better, I don't feel he could ever forgive himself or if Gunner could ever forgive the massive loss. I find myself wishing he hadn't gone so far down that road. And of course, Magnus...just very sad 😔

Better

The editing is getting better although still a ways to go. Grammar, a male character referred to as her, names incorrect…, but there is hope.
I am however, reaching a point to be ready for an end.

A very drawn out fantasy.

I found the rhetoric very repetitive & found myself Skipping while sentences & paragraphs to get past it.
I almost out it down, but am doggedly plowing in to the end.

Repetitive language and unnecessary fluff

I found it difficult to follow the storyline due to the repetitive sentences and sometimes whole paragraphs. This feels like an essay that simply strives to make enough words to meet the required length for publication.

Brilliant story

Love it. Sometimes the descriptions are a bit longer winded and do repeat themselves but the overall story is brilliant can't wait to read the next book

Too much redundancy!

These books were entertaining but the author repeats the same thing over and over. If he had condenced 3 books into 2 , it would have been a better read.

Enjoyed this a lot

Very good. The struggles, wins, losses, kept my reading even when I should've slept. Thank you. Very good book and story.

This review is basically a repeat of my review of book 2.
The world building was good as was the pacing. The dwarves and Ruiha are still the most developed characters and again, I cannot say they were all that interesting. There are words and phrases which are still over used such as determination, resolve, sense of purpose, challenges that lay head, shared bond, shared understanding, unyielding/unwavering strength. Remember back in high school when you had a paper due and your teacher wanted it to be 3 pages and you only had 2.25? Remember repeating yourself/rephrasing and adding superfluous words just to eek out the remainder of the page? That's what this feels like but on a larger scale. Monotony at it's finest.
