This Christmas themed ARC hit my NetGalley a few days ago, and talk about perfect timing.
There was a chill in air, I needed a blanket to read outside, so I made myself a pot of tea and wrapped up with this quaint, heartwarming tale from Eliza J. Scott.
My first book by her, she has a great way of making me feel like I entered a Gilmore Girls episode, I almost could hear "la la la" in a few scenes.
Yes, this book is like a warm mug of hot chocolate.
Set in the seaside town of Micklewick Bay, Florrie Appleton and Ed Harte own the local bookstore "Happy Hartes Bookshop" (Eliza, how long did it take you come up with that play on words- you ARE MAGICAL!)
When a mysterious phone call comes and Ed starts acting odd, Florrie begins to worry about her relationship. To make matters worse, bookstore events start to go awry, and it seems too coincidental and begs the question: Is someone trying to sabotage Happy Hartes??
This has it all:
Mystery
Light Romance
Silly Antics
A Black Lab you can't help but love...

If like me, you always match your seasons with your TBR, this little nugget should be added. Scheduled for release on October 23rd, keep an eye out for it and get your hot chocolate ready.

Thank you to NetGalley, Storm Publishing and to the author for this read in return for my honest opinion.

I received a free copy of, Christmas at the Little Bookshop by the Sea, by Eliza J. Scott, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This book is four of the Micklewick Bay series. Florrie is so excited for the holidays, her Happy Hartes bookshop, looks so festive. The only downer is her partner Ed, is he hiding something from her? This is a sweet holiday read. Mickelwick seems like a great town to be in.

A sweet story set in a cozy bookshop.

I really enjoyed the bookshop setting as well as the romantic gesture that the main character did for her boyfriend for Christmas. And I enjoyed the whole mystery surrounding the bookshop as well.

I think because this is like book four in a series and I didn't read the others before this one. So for me I wasn't as connected with the characters and you could definitely tell there was some continuation storylines from other books as well. There was a mix of characters I enjoyed and others I didn't connect with very well.

*thank you to #NetGalley for a complimentary copy of this book to read. All thoughts are my own.

I was selected by Netgalley/Storm Publishing to give an honest review and I am so pleased that I was chosen!

This was such a cute and cozy story. This was my first Eliza J Scott novel, and I didn't realize this was the 4th book in the series. Though I feel this was fine as a standalone, there were a lot of characters, and I am all about character development throughout the series, so I felt a little lost not knowing all the characters' backstory. Especially Florrie and Ed being the main characters. If you aren't as detailed as or into character development as I am, then this is an absolutely perfect, cozy, snowy day read. I still loved the story and the setting of the Happy Hartes Bookstore and the town of Micklewick Bay.

Florrie and Ed are such a cute couple, and it was nice seeing the town and their friends/found family supporting their dreams. This was humorous, absolutely sweet and romantic, and so festive! I am for sure going back and starting the series from the beginning so I can fall in love with the series even more.

Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.

Where to start on this. It had great potential. Christmas, a bookshop, and romance? It should be a cozy read, right?

In my honest opinion, it felt disconnected and boring. The main characters, Florrie and Ed, have terrible communication, but it's played off as if it's normal. Instead of asking her boyfriend of 18 months to talk to her, she bottles it in and just accepts his silence on things. While one of them was a surprise for her, the rest should have been discussed as adults. It made her seem meek and childlike, instead of an adult.

The plot did not keep me interested. In fact, it took me a couple of weeks to finish this book, as it was so slow paced, and too long for what it is. The author could have trimmed out a lot of this, and made it more palatable.

The other problem I had with this book was the over use of words. "I reckon" and "anyroad" was entirely way over done. There are so many different expressions that could be used in place of those, yet it was the same thing every page. One page, I counted "I reckon" three different times!

Overall, it could be a cute Christmas story if it was reworked, and more thought put into it. The way it is now, I wouldn't recommend to anyone.

A wholesome and heartwarming story set in the picturesque town of Micklewick Bay. Book four in the series, which I read as a stand-alone. I do wish I had read the previous books just to get myself acquainted with the characters.

A story that is full of all things Christmas, beautiful window displays, fairy lights, mulled wine, ice skating, and snow. As far as the plot goes, nothing much really happens. It's all very pleasant and happy going for the majority of it. I liked it, but it didn't grab me as much as I was hoping. The story encapsulates the Christmas spirit, full of family and friendships, with a good dose of community spirit and some romance in there to.

This story gives you a good serving of what you expect from a cosy, romantic festive story filled with the warmth of Christmas.

Thank you, Storm Publishing, for my ARC and to NetGalley.

I should start by saying i really loved this story telling, the writing was good the characters were great, and i think there was good promise in the plot. However, i missed a main plot line, kinda. I was expecting the book to be building up to a big secret or something really big happening, so the ending was a bit anticlimactic. Nevertheless still a cute little christmas read.

Thank you to netgalley and the author for sending me the book in exchange for an honest review

Having adored Micklewick Bay since first reading about it, I was delighted to return to the Happy Hartes Bookshop and catch up with Ed and Florrie. Don’t worry if you haven’t read the rest of this series, as this book will work as a standalone but will probably have you looking for the rest of the series.
Sharing both the bookshop and their home is the perfect situation for the couple, and being surrounded by their friends is the icing on top of their virtual cake. Florrie is devoted to Ed and is most mindful of his unhappy childhood, so she resolves to help create some of the best Christmas memories for him and launches ‘The Happy Christmas Memories Project’.
Despite Florrie’s desire to create a perfect Christmas, she has to contend with some awful pressures from a hostile takeover bid, the realisation that Ed is being secretive and curating her emotions and self-doubt.
It was a real treat to catch up with the other residents of Micklewick Bay, and I loved the quick visit to Danskelfe Castle, especially the sleigh ride and what came next. What remains after all the work on the project is the relationship between Ed and Florrie. Previously challenged after a disappearing act, can Florrie trust that he is ‘all in’, or is she risking her heart? No spoilers from me, so you’ll need to read it yourself.
A genuine sense of warmth, friendship and community oozed from the pages, and I loved it. Eliza Scott has written another delightful, relatable story and wrapped it in glittery paper with a bow.
In case you can’t tell, I loved this absolute treat of a book and thoroughly recommend that you add it to your Christmas reading list.

It was lovely to back in Micklewick Bay and enjoying Florrie and Ed's run up to Christmas. This can be read standalone but as there are a number of recurring characters, to get the most from it, I suggest reading the others first.

Ed didn't have the most festive childhood, so Florrie sets up numerous treats for Ed to enjoy to help him make Christmas memories. Whilst she is planning this Ed keeps getting distracted by mysterious calls which he won't talk about and strange incidents occur with the bookshop.

I do like Florrie and Ed but their characters annoyed me at times with their lack of communication especially since they are in a long term relationship.

As with previous books, I love all the supportimg characters, especially Florrie’s friends. Their antics and banter had me laughing out loud at times. There is also a wonderful sense of community spirit.

The author is so good with her descriptions, you can almost feel you are there.

A lovely, light-hearted, cosy Christmas read with a little bit of mystery.

While I loved the cozy atmosphere and was intrigued by the storyline surrounding the bookshop itself, I struggled to fully connect with the book. It felt like the plot lacked a sense of forward momentum, leaving me waiting for a big, exciting moment that never quite arrived. This may partly be because I haven’t read the earlier books in the series; without that backstory, I found it harder to connect with the characters and their relationships.

That said, for fans of the series or readers who are looking for an easy, festive read without too much drama, this book might hit all the right notes. Despite my reservations, I appreciated the charming setting and holiday vibes that made it a pleasant, if not wholly gripping, read.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read this book. For me, it was sweet and cozy, but it didn’t quite hold my attention as much as I’d hoped.

A simple, cozy holiday read with a hint of mystery! I didn’t realize this was the fourth in a collection of books so my introduction to the characters was a bit abrupt, but Eliza J. Scott did a good job of clueing her unknowing readers into the dynamics. The story made me feel cozy and was a decent escape from reality, though I was quite frustrated by the assumptions Florine was always making instead of asking questions. Maybe I’ll read a few of the other Micklewick Bay stories should the time feel right.

Christmas at the Little Bookshop by the Sea by Eliza J. Scott is a cosy holiday story but it's not just sweet and cheesy, a lot is going on there.
I love how this story revolves around the beauty of books with a Christmas spark.
The cutest thing in this book was the Happy Christmas Memory Project! Adorable! So sweet!

As Ed never had a good Christmas experience, Florrie has a great idea of how to create positive Christmas memories for him! Meanwhile, they running a bookshop and it's Christmas time and so much is happening!

It's a nice Christmas read for sure!

So lovely to get back to Micklewick Bay , this time with Florrie and Ed again. They've spent the last 18 months building up the Happy Hartes bookshop into a place people want to visit regularly. But they're once again having to deal with Dodgy Dick trying to get them to sell! This time its Christmas, with all the festivities, memories to be made, laughter and joy. It was wonderful catching up with all the 'girls' and the happenings in their lives. Such a fun series.

This was a lovely little festive read (the audiobook was great too. Well narrated (and easy to listen to in the gym!). It didn’t quite grab me but it kept me listening and I was intrigued how things were going to play out with the bookstore.

I have no idea why I didn’t quite get drawn in, I didn’t connect too much to the characters but it was entertaining nonetheless. The cover is a beauty and it has the exact cosy air I was looking for.

This Christmas book was an absolute joy to read, leaving you feeling warm and cosy.
Characters that were really easy to relate to, dealing in humour and as well as intrigue.

Florrie and Ed run a bookshop that was handed down from Eds grandparents. However, not everybody is happy with this and cause carnage, trying to force the couple to sell up. Ed seems very secretive and Florrie is not convinced that he is not involved in the plot. Trying to put her concerns aside, Florrie is determined to bring sparkle to Christmas, something Ed has never really celebrated and there are magical things planned to show him just what Christmas can be like.

An absolutly delightful read, highly recommend.

What can I say, this is a festive cosy read that is perfect for the holiday season. This story will give you everything you could want from a festive read, and you'll likely devour this in a few short sittings, filling you with that warm romantic nostalgia.

This is the fourth book in the series, so it may do new readers well to pick up the prior books and follow them along, but I went straight in at book four and still really enjoyed this, despite maybe losing some of the characters back stories by not having read books 1-3.

I’m always here for any story that revolves around books and heartwarming female friendships, and Christmas at the Little Bookshop by the Sea brings plenty of that cozy charm! The seaside setting and the adorable little bookshop are like a warm hug, especially with all the festive touches and bookish decor that Florrie and Ed put together.

However, the middle part of the book slowed down more than I expected—Florrie’s worry over Ed’s secret started to drag, although a little mystery kept my interest. But if you can push through the slight lull, the ending does bring things back to that cozy, feel-good holiday spirit.

What I loved most were the friendships and sense of community—women supporting and lifting each other up, which reminds me of the power of female bonds (just like the lasses!). The charming bookshop setting and festive atmosphere made it an enjoyable, light read.

If you’re in the mood for a sweet Christmas story with a focus on books, friendship, and small-town charm, this one will give you all the cozy feels.

This is book four in a lovely series that is centred around Micklewick Bay and its residents. The main characters are Florrie Appleton and Ed Harte who run the local bookshop, Happy Hartes Bookshop. It’s Christmas and after learning that Ed hasn’t got many great memories of Christmas from when he was younger Florrie decides to make this one extra special. However Ed is acting as if he has something to hide and keeps disappearing into the attic. Along catching up with all the other characters from the previous books this is a lovely feel good festive read that does have some drama too

This is the fourth book in this series, but can be read just fine as a standalone if you did not read the rest of the books in the series, just a little bit of backstory for the characters will be missing. Overall, it was a very cozy story that is perfect for getting into the holiday spirit, but don't expect a super exciting story filled with a lot going on. I loved the sweetness of the town and it's inhabitants, and all of their friendships were so lovely.

What a lovely read! The festive season, the topic of books, authors and reading events made this story sparkle— so there was plenty to keep my interest! Not to mention mystery and romance. Christmas at the Little Bookshop by the Sea by Eliza J Scott is part of the Micklewick Bay series. Although I have not read the previous books, I was still able to enjoy the story as the author gives us a bit of background on some of the recurring characters and the community.

The two main leads Florrie and Ed inherited The Happy Hartes Bookshop (along with the gorgeous resident dog Gerty, a black Labrador!). This couple has worked hard at making the shop a success and currently are doing their best to dress up the place to create a festive Christmas atmosphere. But trouble lurks in the background with someone trying to force their hand at selling the shop. A few sabotage events occur that have them clambering to find the culprits, although they have someone in mind.

As for Florrie and Ed’s history: they have been together for eighteen months. Florrie has not really considered where their relationship might be heading but she knows she loves Ed and he makes her happy. Though she had one negative experience after they inherited the bookshop from Ed’s grandparents. But Ed obviously loves her and states she is the most amazing person he has ever met. She is thoughtful and caring of others. She has a big heart and does kind acts for her friends and family. This time she plans some fun activities for The Happy Christmas Memory Project. There are wonderful winter activities like making snowmen, taking a special horse sleigh ride, sledging (sledding), skating and, of course, tree trimming! These are well described, evoking memories of my own childhood when I was enthused by a black sky filling with the wonder of snowflakes. Those cold snowy nights always ushered in the spirit of Christmas as they do in this lovely novel.

As mentioned, there’s a little mystery connected to the bookshop and even Ed disappears for a short while. Plus there’s a dash of romance, too, author readings, a nasty villain, family and couple relationship issues and birth of a baby. These all add flavour to this colourful story that keeps rolling along at a steady pace. It was good to see family members and friends cheering each other on through their struggles. Plus, the joyful holiday activities mentioned make reading this story fun and uplifting.

By the close of Christmas at the Little Bookshop by the Sea, secrets are exposed, intentions are made clear and those behind sabotage events at the bookshop are revealed. Relationship challenges are worked out: one of which is between Ed and his father once communication lines are opened and useful knowledge is revealed. Making the reason behind the contention understood and able to be rectified. And Florrie and Ed create some wonderful new memories with the promise of more ahead! This is a well written enjoyable Christmas story that is brimming with festive spirt. 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Book four in the Little Bookshop series will fill all your Hallmarky Holiday Wishes! Thank you to NetGalley, Eliza + Storm Publishing for the eARC

What to expect:
⭐ Small Town Romance
⭐ Holiday Hallmark Vibes
⭐ A villan trying to take a bookstore away
⭐ A couple trying to grow together + work through communication issues
⭐ Family drama
⭐ A community of love and support

My Thoughts:
This is my first book by Eliza, I didn't know it was a full book series! This is Book 4 of them all. One thing I will say, while you can read this as a standalone there is depth missing from MANY of the character storylines. A lot of it gets glossed over and you can tell is covered in depth in previous books. I knew there was one for sure before since it has a title of a similar name, but didn't realize that there were four which makes A LOT more sense as to why the depth of story is missing.

Ed and Florrie are adorable together and I wish I could see the display windows of the shop in person! They sound dreamy. Also who doesn't' love a book store at Christmas! Sometimes I find their relationship a bit icky. She is sometimes super insecure and he is non-communicative which in a real world relationship would be cause for serious issues. I love their bringing joy to Christmas moments and what it means for Ed. I love all the secondary characters and I think would have appreciated and loved them more if I had read the other books. There is mystery, intrigue and mush!

t is definitely gushy, Hallmark vibes of a story. Lots of descriptive language to really make you feel like you're in the place. While I enjoyed it. there was something about it I didn't really love. Maybe a bit of over description. Maybe because I was missing a lot of the back story... It was a fun holiday read in a cute small town none the less! Also it seems that there is more to come based on the ending!

Synopsis:
In the seaside town of Micklewick Bay, Florrie Appleton and Ed Harte are gearing up for a magical Christmas at the Happy Hartes Bookshop. Florrie’s book-themed decorations are the talk of the town, while Ed’s dazzling window displays could have been plucked straight from a fairytale. With romance in the air, this promises to be their best holiday season yet.

But after a surprise phone call from his father, Florrie worries that Ed is keeping a secret. Why is he spending so much time in the attic? And what’s making him act so distantly?

Determined to make this Christmas unforgettable, Florrie packs their days with festive treats from gingerbread hot chocolates to sleigh rides under the stars. But when Ed disappears just a few days before Christmas, Florrie fears the worst. Will her holiday dreams shatter like a dropped bauble? Or is Florrie in for a Christmas surprise of her own?
