USA Today and Amazon #1 Bestseller M. L. “Matt” Buchman started writing on a flight south from Japan to ride his bicycle across the Australian Outback. Just part of a solo around-the-world trip that ultimately launched his writing career.

From the very beginning, his powerful female heroines insisted on putting character first, then a great adventure. He’s since written over 60 action-adventure thrillers and military romantic suspense novels. And just for the fun of it: 100 short stories, and a fast-growing pile of read-by-author audiobooks.

Booklist says: 3x “Top 10 of the Year.” PW says: “Tom Clancy fans open to a strong female lead will clamor for more.” His fans say: “I want more now…of everything.” That his characters are even more insistent than his fans is a hoot.
As a 30-year project manager with a geophysics degree who has designed and built houses, flown and jumped out of planes, and solo-sailed a 50’ ketch, he is awed by what is possible. More at: www.mlbuchman.com.

They are trained soldiers, the best of the best, the ones called on to stab at the heart of the enemy without getting caught. They are also a man and a woman and their chemistry in and out of the target zone make them allies with a tentative connection neither quite know how to handle. Their bravery on the frontline seems to come more naturally than the bravery they must show to take a chance on love. Bring on the Dusk by M. L. Buchman doesn’t fit precisely in one genre. A well-written and easy to understand military fiction isn’t enough, nor is calling it a romance, as M. L. Buchman has skillfully blended the two into one fast-paced tale of life and death missions without forgetting the human element.

Captain Claudia Casperson, a Nightstalker pilot and Colonel Michael Gibson, a Delta Force special ops soldier find their relationship as a team to be a near perfect fit in a world just getting used to women in hot situations. Claudia thinks and examines, her mind always going, absorbing what is going on around her and she finds something completely unforgettable about Michael, a man who has seen danger and death on a regular basis. Missing from Michael’s façade is the hardened killer attitude, instead she finds a man with a soft side who is willing to make the tough decisions under pressure. Michael sees a strong female, beautiful, yet seemingly unaware of that fact, relying on her training, brains and internal fortitude to do her job and do it right. With the pressure of preventing impending world disaster on their shoulders, can they keep from crossing the lines of being part of a team and keep their focus on the job that lay ahead?

M. L. Buchman takes us into the lives of the elite soldiers, where the feeling of family runs high, and obeying orders comes first. Without overdoing any brutal detail, the atmosphere is still charged with danger and excitement. From page one, we always know that inside the uniform is a human being, not another paper cutout of a war machine. I enjoyed the read, the characters and the author’s style, nothing over the top, with a few moments of humor and some great dialogue to bring his characters to life.

My Review:
I swear this author just gets better and better. The prose in this novel is gorgeous. I think I could spot M.L. Bushman's writing without knowing he was the author because he has such a distinctive writing voice and I do really like the style to it.

In this novel the hero and the heroine are both quiet people. They flow with the world around them, watching everything, and reacting accordingly. That sense of peacefulness and just existing saturates the pages of this book. Normally M.L. Bushman's books have a lot of action in them that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. Yes, this one has that too, but it had a different feel to it just because the two characters featured in it were so different. I adored this book and these two characters.

Michael is the highest ranking D-boy, or Delta force troop on operational status. He long ago accepted that he would be alone for the long run and would probably die doing his job. But then he meets Claudia, the newest pilot in SOAR. She flies one of the Little Birds and I loved her passion for the helicopters.

I've honestly been waiting for Michael to get a story for several books now and his book so far surpassed my expectations. Claudia...wow...she was PERFECT for him. Only someone who could surpass Major Beale in skills and instinct as both a pilot and a soldier would work as a match for the highest ranking spec ops officer. She stepped up to the job and blew me away...but at the same time, she was human, with doubts and second-guesses that made her a great heroine. I loved how impressed Michael was by her at every turn too.

And we have to talk about Michael's trees. After finishing this book, I felt like I had made a trip to the tops of the Sequoia's with them. Wow, the author did an incredible job transporting the reader into his world. Loved, loved, loved Nell and the visuals M.L. Buchman created within her.

I loved this book. Like I said, M.L. Buchman has such a distinctive voice. He takes you into the mission so that you feel like you're right there with the characters. It's an incredible skill. Normally, I am not a reader that likes a lot of description, but this author makes it work and he makes it work beautifully. This entire series has been phenomenal and I while the Major's will always have the favorite spot for me in this series, this one is a VERY close second. Bonus...Major Beale showed up in this with a fun bit of news, too. Tiny squee!

I love how Buchman combines reality with fiction. By placing his stories in real life situations they become so much more intense. The fighting is just as realistic as the downtime. Buchman’s attention to detail really makes this story even better. I like how he uses, and defines, acronyms in an easy to follow manner that doesn’t disrupt the storyline. This story is fast paced without rushing. Buchman’s writing is straightforward yet inviting. He doesn’t get caught up in flowery or longwinded narratives that would detract from the story.

Getting to know both of the main character thoughts throughout had me laughing more than once. It also allowed me to get to know them both quite well. I love how goal oriented these characters are. They really love their lives. It’s such a refreshing outlook. Their conflicting feelings enhanced my connection to them. Their jobs are dangerous and they worked hard for them, but watching them go beyond that with each other was so rewarding. I appreciate how Buchman neither glorifies nor vilifies his characters and their chosen careers. They simply are.

This novel is easy to read as a standalone or as part of the series. Buchman is quickly becoming one of my go-to authors for a great story.

Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.

Reviewing M.L. Buchman's books is like stumbling over many stepping stones because I never quite know where to begin with the bundle of contradictions that each book presents. The military detail and action are never lacking but sometimes even those get too much for me, to the point where I think character growth could have been sacrificed for that.

'Bring on the Dusk' is no different: Buchman's heroes and heroines are larger than life, almost removed from reality, but the further they are from Emily Beale and Mark Anderson are they allowed to finally be themselves and not get overshadowed by the near-untouchable couple of his first book. Yet the tender way he writes about his characters shine through, his striking prose reaching mythical proportions as he guides them through instances in which they get closer and fall in love. Consequently, I'm always left scratching my head at them; empathising halfway but not fully there, digging in but never reaching the bottom of them.

Captain Claudia Jean Casperson and Colonel Michael Gibson have been called in to subdue a conflict while remaining under the radar. It will take all their strength but it will take even more to for them to breach the walls around their heart in this exciting romantic suspense.

Claudia has worked hard for her promotion to the Night Stalkers but she’s closed herself off from messy emotions and Michael’s not much better and even worse in some ways and the reader can’t help but get caught up in the story as the their attraction to each other slowly but surely brings them closer together. The characters are strong, compelling and grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning and the steady to fast paced plot keeps readers hovering in anticipation with suspense, excitement and romance.

Excitement builds throughout the story as dangers to the team escalate, hair-raising missions are executed and the reader is given a seat on exhilarating flights with one of the best pilots SOAR has to offer. The well written scenes and details capture the imagination and make the reader feel as if they are part of the story and the well orchestrated events ensure that the readers want to know the entire story. The reader also gets a taste of the emotional impact and toll that doing what they do best takes on the characters as they strive to be the best and bring everyone home alive.

While I felt that the story dragged a little and was a little too technical in some places, it was all information needed are in depth looks into the characters and the story certainly wouldn’t let go once I started reading it and it was in no way boring.

Captain Claudia Jean Casperson has strives to be the best of the best. Ever since the first woman made it as a pilot in the Night Stalkers, it has been her number one priority and goal. Now she has her chance and her assignment she is given a crash course of acclimation and sent right into battle.

Colonel Michael Gibson has never made a personal connection. Knowing his days are numbered, he's kept himself isolated and at the top of his team. When Claudia pulls him and his team out of a harrowing mission he sees a kindred spirit. She gets him and his quirks. The attraction grows but they stay on the fringes of one another's radar, professionalism at its root.

A crisis with an ally pulls both Claudia and Michael into a black on black ops. Claudia must learn to rely on Michael while Michael battles with keeping her safe.

Although this might be book 6 in the Night Stalkers series, it can be read as a stand alone.

Bring on the Dusk was a wonderful read and sure hit my reading spot, who doesn't love a great military suspense thriller. Buchman provide characters that come alive with his ability to write realism with heart. Pulse pounding action and an endearing romance make Bring on the Dusk a fabulous adventure.

Bring on the Dusk is the 6th book in the Night Stalkers series by M. L. Buchman. We are once again immersed in the exciting world of SOAR, (Special Operations Aviation Regiment), also known as the Night Stalkers. This one focuses on Colonel Michael Gibson of Delta Force and Captain Claudia Jean Casperson of the Night Stalkers. Claudia has just completed her SOAR training and is in route when she is redirected to assist in an extraction for a ground team of Delta Force operators. Michael is the Delta that ends up in her Copilot’s seat and thus begins their introduction.

Bring on the Dusk starts out great and quickly captured my attention. Michael and Claudia both have a peaceful contemplative way about them and at first it charmed me but got a little dull after a while. There was a lot of inner monologue going on with Michael and Claudia and their thinking became a bit repetitive. I wanted less reflection and more communication.

I liked the first half of the book better than the second. There was more going on and more character interaction in the first half. The momentum slows down about the midway point when Michael and Claudia go on leave together. Having the focus on two characters that don’t communicate a whole heck of a lot got a bit boring. It was still good. It just didn’t hold my attention that well. Fortunately, it does pick again when there are assigned a new mission. It just wasn’t quite as engaging as the first half.

Overall, Bring on the Dusk is quite good. It’s skillfully written and the action scenes are superbly done. As always, I was impressed with M. L. Buchman’s ability to add in plenty of technical details while keeping it interesting. I very much enjoy reading about the Night Stalkers and their missions. Bring on the Dusk is a good addition to the series and I look forward to more.

Bring on the Dusk is recommended to fans of action or military romance.

Arbor Day/Earth Day came around and I suddenly remembered there was this romantic thriller I read that had trees... amazing trees. Over a couple of days I managed to isolate the author, series and Voilà! I had my Arbor Day escape read.

Claudia, a helicopter pilot, is enroute to joining a black ops team in the Middle East, realizing a dream to be among the first women to join the elite forces, which only get the best of the best. Suddenly she's re-routed to Yemen to give a last minute assist to a secret op in the desert. There she picks up Michael, the top Delta Force operator in the region. Attraction is immediate (this is a romance after all) and grows as Claudia and Michael work together on various ops along the coast of Africa and later in the Black Sea. There is plenty of action and military special ops detail, as well as one wonderful strong, smart, talented, fearless woman at the heart of the story. Buchman is one of the few male authors writing romantic suspense that does a great job portraying strong women. His Night Stalker series is excellent.

But where are the trees????

Michael's hobby and passion is climbing Titans, the tallest redwoods in Northern California. There are two superb sections where Michael's love for these amazing trees and an actual climb (with Claudia in one) leap off the page. I've yet to visit the redwoods, and climbing one is out of the question at my age and physical condition (assuming you even are allowed --- treeclimbers are very protective and secretive about the tallest Titons). Reading this made me feel I was there.

Since we met Michael, the D boy, I have been intrigued with him. I liked the role that he had in the last book, even as he was walking a fine line with Tricia and Bill.

I was surprised by Claudia, she was so quiet, so understated that it shouldn't have surprised me how quickly she got under Michael's skin. Michael doesn't do flashy and while Claudia is many things, flashy would be the last.

I loved how right from the start it seemed like Michael and Claudia had an understanding. How what usually bugged other people about them didn't with each other. It was the quiet times that they spent together that made me root for them, the time spent up top of the ship, up top the tree.

I loved Claudia's reaction to meeting Peter and the situation that she put him in. I thought she did a great job of keeping it together and getting the mission done. I felt for Michael at one point in the mission and can see how that made him rethink things and pull the stupid boy move.

The ending made me smile. I liked that Claudia let Michael know how he hurt her and rip him a new one in the quiet way of hers, which allowed her words to get through to Michael, giving them the HEA they both desperately wanted.

I feel so disappointed. I have loved Michael, the quiet Delta guy, in every book and I was sooo looking forward to his story.

This was (in my opinion) just awful. Only the mission saved this from being a one star review.

*commence rant* Michael comes across as some woo-woo mumbo-jumbo weirdo - I honestly expected him to say he believed in astrology at one point. Claudia is similarly odd, oh and she is suddenly even better than the great Emily Beale - I don't think so! At 56% I was just bored. There was too much climbing big trees and communing with nature. I even thought the goddamn raven was going to be a symbol of something *ends rant*

If I had written this review before I had read the novella Target of the Heart I would have believed that maybe the series had run its course and/or M.L. Buchman had lost interest. Luckily my faith has been restored.

I've never been so enraptured by characters who barely say anything to each other. Buchman has it down to an art- falling in love without the need to speak. This doesn't mean they're always comfortable with each other, but that they just know that words aren't needed to express themselves. I'm really impressed by this novel. I've read a couple in the series, but this one's really got me excited! With great action scenes to balance out the relationships, this might actually be my favorite one yet!

Wow! Bring on the Dusk is another wonderful addition to the Night Stalker series. We meet Claudia, a little bird pilot as she joins SOAR. As you know, there is plenty of action with the Night Stalkers. Strong women and stronger men, who do whatever it takes to defend our country. When sparks ignite, we follow their stories through more unknown territory of following their hearts. A great read!

After two days of constant travel, Capt. Claudia Casperson is assigned to fly her helicopter with the group retrieving the most skilled and most anonymous unit in the military – Delta Force. After a complex mission rescuing the victims of Somali pirates designed by Delta Force’s field commander Col. Michael Gibson, the unit gets dispersed on leave for a little down time. There is less time than anyone expected because the Russians have begun testing incursions on neighboring states.

Lots of action, lots of courage, lots of loyalty and devotion fill the story. The characters are well drawn and very likeable with gradually revealed back stories and depth. Highly recommended for fans of the genre and contemporary romance. Although there is military jargon and acronyms, they don’t get in the way. A good read.

I have read and reviewed the entire Night Stalkers series, so I couldn’t miss this one. And if you love military romance, you shouldn’t miss this series either. Start with The Night Is Mine and be prepared to sign over a bunch of your nights.

It wasn’t until the book hit me over the head, but all the books in this series have time in the title, specifically some time between dusk and dawn - because that is when the Night Stalkers operate. The dark is their friend, because it hides their operations - many of which have to be denied in the light of day.

At the very beginning of this story, Captain Claudia Casperson has to adapt herself to the Night Stalkers upside-down schedule. It’s about the only thing she really needs to adapt to, because she was born to fly for SOAR.

Delta Force, the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta, is another group that relies on the dark of night to get their job done. If some SOAR operations are deniable, everything that the D-boys do is deniable to the point of sometimes denying they exist. They even give the credit for some of their operations to other Special Forces units, just to keep the terrorists they are countering in the dark.

I said D-boys not just because the Unit is still all male, unlike SOAR, but also because that’s the way they are referred to in the story. However, it is a unit where there certainly are no boys, only men who have taken on a hard and dangerous duty and expect to give their lives in the service of their country.

There are no boys or girls, no children or young recruits, anywhere within SOAR or Delta. Even Dilya, the adopted daughter of Archie and Kee (their story is in I Own the Dawn) is only a child chronologically, Her experiences have made her grown-up well beyond her teenage years.

I wonder (and hope) this series can go on long enough for us to see Dilya’s HEA. But I seriously digress.

Bring on the Dusk is the story of two very quiet people who are the best of the best at what they do. Colonel Michael Gibson is the highest ranking Delta officer still in the field. He’s the best of the best, and he’s also the best at keeping his own counsel. He’s not prepared for anyone to challenge the fortress he keeps his heart in. But Claudia Casperson is also the best of the best at what she does, which is fly helicopters. She’s also good at being quiet herself.

Both Gibson and Casperson raised themselves. Gibson vaulted himself into the high Titan redwoods of California, climbing beyond where anyone else has climbed. His parents were there, but distant, and couldn’t follow where his mind or his heart led.

Claudia was a child of the Sonoran Desert, learning to fly at a young age and also taking herself out into the desert for the quiet and peace of the open spaces. Her tiny town in Arizona had no school and little opportunity. She educated herself, and her parents were also present but uncaring and distant.

Two people who both love the peace of being away from everything and everyone, find their quiet place in the midst of war with each other. It just takes both of these very intelligent people longer than you might expect to figure out that as important as it is to serve a cause that you are willing to die for, it is just as important to find someone that you are willing to live for.

Escape Rating B+: Part of the fun of this series is watching new people get introduced to the Night Stalkers that series readers are already familiar with. It’s always a hoot to see old friends from new perspectives,as well as get an update on how everyone is doing.

Speaking of which, it was terrific to see Emily Beale as she continues to adjust to life outside SOAR. Claudia calling on her as a mentor was a terrific scene. Emily is the prototype, and now Claudia has to step into Emily’s shoes in ways that she didn’t expect.

Also two women discussing military strategy for operations that they have planned or will plan and relying on each other takes the Bechdel test to a whole new level.

The romance in this story is a slow-building one, as many of them have been in this series. Gibson and Casperson are never quite sure whether the anti-frat regs apply to them or not, as they are both officers and Delta force is in a separate command structure from SOAR. But that isn’t the real barrier. The issue is that both of these people have locked their hearts away for reasons that seem good and logical, but get thrown out the window when they meet.

And neither of them knows how to handle it. Their mutual confusion makes their relationship come alive for the reader long before they figure it out themselves.

Into the middle of the romance is thrown a top secret military operation that requires both of their skills. The scene with the President, who is often referred to as just ‘Peter’ is fantastic as we see Michael and Claudia plan in front of their commander-in-chief by speaking almost without words, and the President deciding on the fly that Claudia is the best person to run the show, even though she has never commanded a black-in-black operation before.

The op itself is a nail biter, not just because of the stakes, but Claudia is almost literally biting her nails as she plans and controls at a higher level than she ever imagined, or ever expected to operate. She grows.

And afterwards Michael gets an attack of stupid and nearly wrecks any future they might have. His epiphany, and accompanying groveling (well sort of) makes for a heartwarming ending to the non-stop adventure.

Another one that I enjoyed. I was between a three and a four on the rating but gave a 4 because I still could not put the book down. Michael was one of my favorite characters but I felt it got a little too lovey-dovey to quick in this book. One thing I did notice is that in all of the previous books it showed him serious and he was just as quiet as he was in this book but it always noted in all of the other books how he have the scar on his face and in this one The author did not mention that at all. Also, what happened to Big Bad John, I loved him in all the other books. Another thing, not the same without Emily being the main pilot.

If you spend some time in the military, I think you'll appreciate and understand this book; I did not understand all the tech details: we got too much detail about ships, guns, helicopters, I mean I started skim reading most of it. I think it was overdone. All the details were too distracting from the real plot and I couldn't even relate to the characters, because all I was getting was details about a rifle or an aircraft or something or other.
It was a 2,5 for me. It was my first book from this author. I will try another and see how it goes.
I did love all the action, but, again, there's only so much you can describe, the reader will never follow the details to the authors vision, no matter how much detail there is.

Finally, a love for D-boy Michael.

I liked the fact that he chose to share his trees faith Claudia. However, it is ironic that this most seemingly brave warrior turns out to be a coward when it really counts.

This is also the book in the series where Emily finds out she is expecting a second child with her husband, Mark. That scene was not very realistic either, unusual, but not realistic.

I loved Claudia. Like I kinda want to be her. But for some reason I found myself skimming after about the halfway point. I’m used to my romantic suspense being heavy on the romance and heavy on the suspense. And, if I’m being honest, explicit in the sex scenes. As a whole, the romance and the suspense felt a little too tame and I started losing interest.

Mr. Buchman

Of all of your books that I have read, this was the very best. Your description of that quiet, calm center that these two characters have, struck me to the core. Your description actually brought me to my center so quickly and completely that I dropped into meditation. I will enjoy owning this book for years, as I read and reread it. Thank you so much.

The action in this book of the series is hard to grab. It isn't easy to follow. The whole Michael falling in love is interesting but not believable. His previously learned personality doesn't fir with the way that came about. I like them as a couple. Other parts aren't very realistic either.
