Hiromu Arakawa, award-winning manga creator of the best-selling smash hit Fullmetal Alchemist, draws readers into an intricate new web of magic, intrigue, and life-or-death stakes!
In a world where certain humans command mighty supernatural duos called Daemons, it is the birthright of “the children who sunder day and night”—twins Yuru and Asa—to rule over these powerful entities.
Separated from a young age and unaware of the truth of their birth, brother and sister must fight to make their way back to each other, claim their birthright, and save the world…
Ancient Daemons awaken to fight a new battle in an age-old war!!
Yuru finally joins the fray against Ivan, who proves to be a menace even when injured! Using his sharp tongue and even sharper reflexes, Ivan manages to get away—but not before taking a few more lives in the process. As the long night draws to a close, Yuru engages in heart-to-heart talks with both the fake and real Asas. Can they reconcile Higashi Village’s sins from the past with their own hopes for the future?
Hiromu Arakawa (author: 荒川弘) is a Japanese manga artist, best known for Fullmetal Alchemist (鋼の錬金術師 Hagane no renkinjutsushi). Her real name is Hiromi Arakawa (荒川弘美).
Arakawa was born and raised on a dairy farm in Hokkaidō. She thought of being a manga artist since she was little. After graduating high school, she took oil painting classes while working on her family's farm. During that time, she also created dōjinshi manga with her friends and drew yonkoma for a magazine. After eight years she moved to Tōkyō and started out as assistant writer for Hiroyuki Etō. Her debut as manga artist is in 1999 with STRAY DOG. In 2001 she started working on her famous and award winning series Fullmetal Alchemist, that soon gets a successful anime adaptation. Other works include Silver Spoon (銀の匙 Silver Spoon, Gin no saji Silver Spoon).
This was a slower volume overall, that let Arakawa flex her character work muscles. I really enjoyed this volume and the banter between everybody. Each character is distinct in design and personality, which makes it surprisingly easy to keep track of them. It also is feeling like we are finally getting into the greater conflict at hand, East Vs. West Japan in a battle that will rival that of Sekigahara, which as a Japanese history nerd has me stoked. So now to summarize what goes down in this volume so that I remember for the next release in December. This series has so many moving parts, but I've been really liking it.
Shingo's attempts at capturing Yuru and Asa is revealed to have been at the bequest of Ivan (the sword guy) who actually works with the Nishino Village (the new enemy that is appearing and seeking revenge for 400 years ago). They're also the ones that tricked Akio into betraying the Kagemori clan (and they wanted to kill him after he failed, but they failed in killing him, so now he's back with them and his mom, who'd abandoned him in the first place and I doubt is his mom). Yuru gets sick, so this leads to some shenanigans back at the apartment as everyone gets sorted out. The volume ends with a hilarious moment where Hana goes to meet with the bandits from Higashi Village who are in charge of things in the modern world. Their President is looking to takeover Higashi Village, from the old lady. This meeting is then attacked by Nishino Village. (Side note: the two cute little kid spirits are the fake Asa and Yuru's old friend)

This volume was okay. The beginning was a little slow, but once we started introducing a new series of enemies, it got interesting fast. It's nice to see them not have any answers, it makes the characters feel more realistic and I am a fan. Also the grief and how people deal with it shown in this volume was fantastic. The ending left me really excited for the next volume too.
Sidebar I love the covers for these manga. All the colours and the people with their Daemons, so aesthetic.
I'm having a hard time keeping track of all the characters, their daemons and their motives 😅 This volume doesn't progress the plot that much and even introduced a new faction?
My favourite parts were Yuru using new technology, his idea of an outing with his daemons and Hana's insistence that she hates kids 😁

Ce tome explosif entérine l'apparition d'un troisième groupe qui en veut à Yuru et sa soeur. On est davantage sur l'après-combat, c'est donc un tome au rythme moins effréné, mais qui fait du bien et apporte plein de nouveaux éléments !
I loved the parallel dreams from Asa and Yuru. I think Jin is such a sweet guardian for Asa it makes me want to cry, and poor Yuru all alone I’m glad he has left and right now.
Me está gustando mucho la serie. Este volumen ha sido un poco de transición pero con momentos muy importantes que seguro que traerán muuuchas consecuencias. Y la última viñeta AAAAAAAAA
