Another excellent entry in the Siblings Series. As in the first book, James, I loved the blend of biblical history and fiction. The characters are engaging and the story line keeps the reader flipping pages. One of the key threads this time around involves Joseph trying to find his younger brother, Simon, who has joined a group of zealots. The author knows how to engage her reader through character relationships. I've become enamored of Jesus's entire family and their friends. And, as in the first book, I found myself swept away in the closing pages when Jesus appears. Wonderful biblical fiction!
How I love Jenifer Jennings’ fictional writings of how Jesus and his siblings’ lives could have been! She draws the reader in right from the beginning and keeps you with her intelligent ideas, dialogue and atmosphere of the times wherein Jesus dwelt. Siblings who loved each other so much and respected the “Patriarch” of the family, who was Jesus, and now, is James. No disrespect, very few squabbles, and if there were differences of opinion, most were kept to themselves. And, that’s why sometimes, there is an outbreak, such as Simon’s! He just disappears one day and nobody really misses him until supper time. Then, after he doesn’t come back for days, they get worried. Joseph is trying to find his way in this book. It seems that everyone has found The Way, but him, so when he is dragged before the Sanhedrin, he can honestly say he doesn’t know what they are talking about when asked about The Way followers. He is becoming bitter about Jesus showing up to everyone when he is not there to see Him! He’s also frustrated with James for not asking for Elissa’s hand in marriage from Benjamin. Joseph is determined and he slips out and he finds Simon, who nearly kills him, and warns him to stay away from him or he will be killed. All Joseph can think about is his growing love for the adulterous woman whom Jesus told “Go, and sin no more.” How would his siblings feel toward her for a sister-in-law? Would they refuse him the chance to love this beautiful woman who was a known sinner? Finally, the day comes when James tells Joseph that Jesus had appeared again but He said to come to an exact place the next day and they would see Him. Joseph saw Him, fell on Him, holding onto Him a little longer than he thought he would, and Jesus told him He loved him. Jesus told them all to wait for the One who was coming after Him… Wow 🤩 what a great book! I read an advance reader copy and the opinions are mine, and my opinion is that everyone should get their own copy of this awesome novel and read it and the other “Sibling” books! You will be so glad you did! 🙏♥️🙏♥️
Another beautiful story about the siblings of Jesus by Jenifer Jennings. The family has not returned home, but continue to remain in the city. A truly intriguing storyline that pulls the reader in as this entire family of siblings follow James guidance as their patriarch. There is some very eventful interaction with others that had followed Jesus through his ministry. I think the author did a great job with the characters, defining them and giving them their own stories for this very traumatic, yet such an all consuming peace surrounding them as they mourn the loss of a brother, but accept him as their Saviour. I have enjoyed this author's work and I would recommend this newest series.
I received an ARC copy of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
I thoroughly enjoyed the continuation of this series. Jenifer writes with such detail and realism that it's very easy to get caught up in the story and feel that you, as the reader, are actually in Jerusalem right along with Joseph and the other siblings. I found myself wondering what trouble Simon has gotten himself into and whether or not Joseph was going to be able to rescue his brother (no spoilers! read and find the answer to this yourself!!)
Not only did I find this book engaging but I also appreciate the Scriptural truths contained within. Although largely a work of fiction, it is definitely based in Scripture and therefore an inspirational piece. I look forward to reading more of this series and meeting the other siblings of Jesus in more intimate detail.
Joseph: Captivating 1st Century Biblical Novel (Servant Siblings Book 2), my eleventh read from Christian author Jenifer Jennings. A well-written fictionalized expansion of Biblical times focusing on Jesus' brother Joseph following Jesus' crucifixion.“I received a free Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I'll definitely be reading more from this author and look forward to Assia: Captivating 1st Century Biblical Novel (Servant Siblings Book 3)! (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Joseph, the next brother of James, both born after Jesus, came to understand that his brother Jesus was the Promised One through the testimonies of a great cloud of witnesses. He did see Jesus after the resurrection, but already believed in Him. These stories help to understand what the brothers and sisters felt about Jesus. I was given this book by the author, but my review is unbiased and really based on my enjoyment of her books.
This was another interesting book that shed life on what life was like in Israel for the Jews at the time of Jesus' death and resurrection. The family dynamics were so different, and I could understand the difficulty Joseph had with James' authority, as well as the other siblings. I appreciate how the biblical accounts are woven into the created fiction to keep the story authentic.
Another awesome bible book on Joseph. What a lovely story you become part of the book, see what They are doing. An adventure one not to be missed. I have really enjoyed all the bible books so far. I have given my honest review I hope you enjoy the book as much as I have
I didn’t really know much about this brother of Jesus, so it was interesting to read about him. I love that parts of the Bible were in this book and that the whole thing was very descriptive. Thank you Jenifer for this wonderful book!
