Originally published in the erotic anthology, Kept.

Jadd is an Igrakk Warrior, honed like the sharpest blade, to kill and to command his men, but his conscience gets in the way. When punishment entails becoming a Preyfinder and trialling the Pet-creating drug on a human called Brittany, he plans to stay calm and do his duty. Until he falls in love.

A Preyfinder is trained to withstand hardship and pain, but Jadd would rather kneel before a firestorm than leave his captive, Brittany, to be stalked and killed. The choice between love and loyalty to his soldier brothers may tear him in two.

I had this author recommended to me and as this book is free on kindle I thought it would be a good place to start. I've read quite a few alien sci fi romances recently so thought I kind of knew how this book would play out . I would like to state for the record that I was completely unprepared for this story! Yes we have the usual huge chiseled aliens seeking human females but that's where the similarity to any other alien capture romance ends. This darkly erotic book throws a huge spanner into the works as those who would traditionally be seen as the good guys are maybe not, definitely no hearts and flowers here! A race of warriors known as Igrakk who strive to stay one step ahead of the dreaded Bak-lal who bio engineer the planets they conquer ( think Chronicles of Riddick) and the Igrakk now wish to find out if those lesser mammals ( or humans as I prefer to think of my species !) on Earth are capable of aiding in a future war. Here is where it gets a bit tricky as if not suitable than all those on our planet will be annihilated , see just who is the good guy here?
Jadd is tired of constantly meting out death and when he makes a mistake and injures a fellow warrior his punishment is to be sent to Earth to partially bond with a human female knowing that she is being stalked by a serial killer . By testing if her species is compatible the Igrakk can decide whether or not to allow the humans to live or die so it's no small task for Jadd but he wasn't quite expecting the feelings that the female would awaken.
Brittany is in a lost and sad place when this story begins and has no idea that she is a target . What's really bugging her though is why she feels just so needy and turned on and when a mysterious stranger turns up it's all she can do not to throw herself at him! One passionate night later and Brittany learns that aliens exist although what's in front of her is most definitely not a little green man! No Jadd comes from a race that see females as pets and Brittany knows she should object and yet for some odd reason can't. So the testing seems to be going well and Jadd has proved that humans can bond and now all he has to do is step back and allow Brittany's would be killer to do his thing . To interfere would mean death for Jadd but is living without his brave little pet something he can do?
Ok this is bordering on kink with it's master and slave theme but it's not the run of the mill BDSM that's around. Really feel I should hate it and yet it captured my attention and I read it in one sitting. This book is clearly setting up for this world to be fleshed out and if honest I did need more information and world building but it's a short book so maybe I shouldn't be too critical. If you want a sexy story than this fits the bill but it's the last third that caught my imagination as we learn just what the Bak-lal are capable of and get a hint of why Brittany was being targeted . To say more would ruin the surprise so I will state it's a quick read, well written although I'd have liked a bit more descriptions at times as I like to imagine scenes in my head. There are funny moments and interesting supporting characters are introduced and as it's free I have to say you have nothing to lose and everything to gain! Recommended for sci fi lovers looking for a hot romance

Opposites attract and faced with sacrificing his human....Jadd a demoted warrior/officer finds himself on earth as a preyfinder... to hunt down Brittany and test wether her species will be space travel compatable... if she isn’t then the whole world will be destroyed... if she is.. it makes not difference she is destined to die... his ongoing punishment... despite bonding with Brittany is to watch her die at the hands of Fate.

Start of series novella and hawt dayum this a whole lotta fantastic story packed in this book. Gripping and intriguing I’m off to read book 2!!!

I really enjoyed this Scifi alien capture romance. This story is not all fuzzy unicorns and rainbows. Definitely a darker edge to this "romance". Has a BDSM theme with fantasy type master/slave relationship with dubious consent. Seriously dominant Igrakk Warriors keep the universe safe from a terrible enemy. They have to make hard choices and sometimes its difficult to see who is friend or foe. Successful warriors are gifted with the chance to claim "Prey". "Prey" are selected from females who are fated to die anyway, so in this case, the preyfinders are actually saving them.

The story hits the ground running by throwing you headfirst into the human Brittany's and alien Igrakk Warrior and Preyfinder Jadd's lives. Jadd screwed up, so to punish him, his superiors are sending him to earth to test the compatibility of human females with a new "Pet" drug. The catch- he isn't allowed to keep her and the bond goes both ways. The story was well written and sex was off the charts panty melting hot. Scifi girl geek that I am, I do like a little more world building. However, the story is a great intro to what I hope will be a continuing series:) If you're looking for a warm and fuzzy alpha hero then Jadd may not be for you. If you're looking for a serious "no holds barred" dominant then he might just be up your alley.

If you enjoy scifi capture romance with seriously dominant alphas and your lovin' with some extra bite this book is a must buy.

I read this story as part of the Kept anthology which I received as an arc from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Immediately, this story grabbed me with the spiciness. I don’t know if Cari Silverwood went to some sort of school and got a degree in erotica or is she was born with THE GIFT, but I swear I could just orgasm reading her content! I mean I can’t fathom that there are more than a few words that describe the sex act itself, but Cari must have some sort of magic she uses to conjure more words, more descriptions, more lustful movements that create perfect sexual scenes. Moreso the characters and worlds she evokes are so realistic and masterful. I can’t get enough. I could already tell in the beginning of this story that Jadd and Brittany were destined for each other and that far reaching conflict loomed in their future. I was giddy with anticipation. It seemed like the perfect scenario for them to connect, and the timing for Brittany was just right since she’d been feeling confused and guilty over her fiance’s death from 2 years ago. It was like she didn’t care as much about her life. So, when an alien comes along, she didn’t care about her safety or the shock factor as much as she cared about being with and staying with Jadd. Damn the consequences. Regardless of the fact that I got my hoped for HEA, my complaint was that this book was too short. I took away a star for that. I suspect the rest of the books of the series will be as well. Damn. I’m running out of Cari Silverwood books to read!

4 stars for now, but I'm only 5% through this book.

So far this is my favorite Cari Silverwood Sci-Fi book I've come across! I'm not sure what's different about it than the other books by her I've tried (Prey, Vargr, Squirm) but I'm very engaged in the characters and world-building here. I'll definitely be finishing this book, and may raise my rating to 5 stars when I've finished.

I'm paying attention to Cari's use of italics, because I think it's an identifying writing tic of hers, I wrote about it in detail here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Use of italics in Precious Sacrifice (only 5% in the book!):

Oh Gawd. I just checked my highlights and I highlighted italics 38 times in the first 5%! I don't have time to copy and paste all of them, but I'll do all of the italics used in the first 2% of the book to make a point:

I am beginning to think that there isn't anything that Cari cannot write. It has only been recently that I discovered I really like this sci-fi genre of alien abduction type of romance. I am looking forward to the next in the series.

It's happened again..

Cari Sliverwood has sucked me into a futuristic world of Igrakk warriors and Gods that I didn't even know I wanted to be in until I picked up this book.

Precious Sacrifice was the first sci-fi book I've ever finished... ever.. and believe me I've tried reading sci-fi but I could never get past the visions of star wars in my head. And every character I came across reminded me of Han Solo and Lelia but now that has all change because the story and characters captivated me from the start.

It's a beautiful written short story that is description and easy to read with a good storyline. The characters are developed well. Jadd is a loyal alpha Igrakk warrior is sent to earth as punishment, he finds Brittany, a sweet hairdresser/budding artist and then the sparks fly thanks to the nano chem. The sex scenes are hot and steamy! My favourite was the Tom Hiddleston reference I will never look at a brush again without thinking of him ... sigh!

It just shows the amazing talent of Cari Sliverwood who displays a different style of writing in each of her series from the Dark plots in the PIerced Hearts books (if you haven't read it brought it..go..now... come back finish reading the review first!) To sci-fi She can pen her hand to any genre and there isn't many writers who can say that.

I loved the comedy element to the book of Jadd especially when he is learning the the "local" language I think "fracking" has become my new favourite swear word! As to the reference to the 'glowing pussy' it made me laugh out loud and groan at Jadd all at the same time.

At times I must admit I got a bit confused. When Jonathan Two appeared I was like 'huh?' What have I missed and had to go back to the beginning again thinking "I'm sure he was Jonathan One" but it all becomes clear as the story moves on, and I thought the story could of been longer but it's a great way to get into the sci-fi genre if you've never read sci-fi before.

And I'm delighted to know that it's going to be a series and with all the characters mentioned and a Bak-lal war it's going to be an epic one.

I would highly recommended this book to anyone who loves/wants to read sci-fi books with a little kink I'm off now to read book two and I will wait for a Preyfinder to find me....

There are too many alpha alien books that have lots of sex and very little plot. This isn't one of them.

This author still manages to make her books steamy, using naughty thoughts and wicked comments to keep the heat level high, without compromising on the quality of the plot. Her world building is amazing and her characters are always complex.

I came to this series AFTER reading some of the author's darker work though there is, in my mind anyway, still some dubious consent with the 'pet-creating nano-chem' shenanigans. Whilst this may not be to all tastes I quite like the challenges, dynamics and angst this can create.

Jadd and Brittany certainly have some intense chemistry, I loved Brittany's inner strength and her determination not to be over powered by her bossy alien. The internal battle Jadd waged regarding his dilemma of being a good Igrakk soldier/brother and his loyalty/need for Brittany. Interspersed with their story line is the threat of Brittany's stalker along with the mysterious Bak-lal. There is mystery, action and adventure alongside the romance element of the plot. I did feel as though we rushed to the ending a little, however something always has to give in a short story/novella.

Whilst this story 'concludes', there is an overarching story line that is set to continue in further books. Books I will most definitely be reading.

2 1/2 stars, I wanted to like this one I really did but there were just too many plot whole and information missing in this book. I also had a hard time connecting with the characters, we are told they fall in love but I didn't see anything of them falling in love. This is a story that would have benefitted from being longer so the questions could have been answered, we could have scene a relationship build and actually believed they fell in love. In the end I was left with more questions than answers.

Punished for a crime on his planet Jadd is sent to earth to see if the people are worthy of saving or if the planet should be taken over. But his punishment is to claim a woman and make her his who is destined to die and Jadd isn't allowed to fully claim her. When he see's her Jadd sets out to do just that but Brittany isn't like all woman and though Jadd starts the process his feelings start to get in the way. The idea of this story was good but this is one of those books that just didn't come together quite right in the end.

Re-reading Precious Sacrifice reminds me why i love Cari’s stories so much. Her world-build is there from the first story. You know where you are,and who’s with you.
Her men are MEN,tall,strong,unapologetic,rough around the edges and dominant to their core. Her women are feisty,resilient and strong enough to submit to their men’s (and their own) needs.

In Precious Sacrifice,Jadd (an Igrakk warrior) is sent to earth as punishment for harming one of his men after battle. He has to find out if humans can be trained as pets,and Brittany has the honor of becoming his test subject. After being subdued,she’s given the necessary injections and he can start his job. Only it doesn’t feel like a job. She doesn’t feel like a job....There is more to her than meets the eye. And he is to let her go afterwards? Leaving her to that evil stalker?

I enjoyed Sacrifice as much as the first time,and it made me want to re-read the rest,too.
Correction,i NEED to read the other stories too,starting with Intimidator!

If you like sci-fi and erotica, then this book is for you.

If you love reading books that are completely out of the ordinary, then this book is definitely for you.

Jadd, an alien Igrakk warrior, after hurting a fellow officer is demoted instead of sentenced to death. His new mission is to find out if the pet creating drug the Igrakks have will work on humans and if not, Earth will be destroyed. Even though Jadd is to bond with the human woman, he is not allowed to keep her as his pet, no matter how strong the feelings between the two become.

Even though this is just a novella, readers will quickly get pulled into the worlds that Cari Silverwood has created and be left wanting more.

3.5 stars rounded down because the author has done better.

Following the standard alien males need Earth women, this story has a very loose beginning, with limited explanation of who is who and why. When they finally get around to acknowledging the chemically induced lust, it's one scene, and then "I woke up sore after 6 hours of marathon sex."

The intriguing part of the story is hinted at, and then get stronger at the very end of the book (which is part 1 of a series). I'll read the next one just to find out what happens, but this is not the best of this trope.

Jadd, a sexy warrior alien, is tasked to partially bond with Brittany, a human in Australia. What these two go through is erotic and tantalizing - and funny; the hairbrush scene had me chuckling.
Jadd experiences things with Brittany he's unsure of, and his task may not be as easy as he first thought:
"It was a little different to how he’d imagined this. A little deeper than how he’d though a pet- and- master bond should be?"
I can't wait to learn more of this unique and exciting world in book two, Intimidator, about Willow and Stom!

Wow!

I have always loved Cari so I don't hesitate when picking up her books. This one was a quick, hot read that left me wanting more! No, not just more steamy bits, the world she has created here, the Igrakk Warrior's and Preyfinders are awesome. I wish we could of had more time to lean about them and their world.

I was hooked from the start and just wish it had been longer. Time for book two and three. ;)

I was looking for something a little different and that's exactly what I got with Precious Sacrifice. I was definitely digging the Master-Pet aspect but was hoping for a little more of the BDSM element.

If you're looking for a quick, sexy sci-fi read you should definitely give this one a go!

It's romantic and sweet that Jadd and Brittany find love. But isn't it just a little off that she fell so instantly. OK, so there was the drug. Seriously, no words can describe where my head is at. I wish there was more to their story. I felt like I was missing so much.

Jadd, an alien Igrakk warrior, disobeys an order while on duty and suffers the consequences as he is punished with a demotion. The demotion gives him the job of a "Preyfinder" and his task is to test the pet-creating drug on an alluring human, Brittany Wolfe. Based on the results of the drug with Brittany, the Igrakks will decide whether Earth inhabitants are star-faring or will ultimately meet their end. The mission becomes complicated as Jadd can't stomach losing his pet- facing dishonor and death will their bond be enough to save both of them as well as Earth?

I was extremely excited when this released since Cari Silverwood is one of my favorite authors. I was not disappointed and enjoyed this refreshing unique start to the Preyfinders series! The author beautifully writes a variety of different stories but the aspects of her writing style that I enjoy were all there: dynamic and lovable characters, fierce females with their alpha match, interweaving storylines, and sexy erotic scenes.

Brittany and Jadd's world contained Earth, as it is today, and other planets along with some other sci-fi aspects. I found the world-building in this book unique and interesting, especially for being created in a short novel. Jadd and others like him have a distinct look that is "alien" but not too alien as to not be attractive while picturing the characters as I read. Jadd and others also have their own vocabulary and slang which I found fun and original- kak yeah!

One thing I wanted more of was the growing connection between Brittany and Jadd. They had some serious insta-love, triggered by the chemical drug, BUT Brittany was described as having free will and being mentally coherent despite her insatiable desire for Jadd.

"This was a man who'd come from another world. She was about to make a vow to be an alien's pet. This should have had her running away screaming. But, it was so right."

I highly recommend this book (and Cari's Pierced Hearts series) to all erotic romance readers- even if you haven't read science fiction- I bet you'd love this one! I have already ordered book two and can't wait to see what happens next!

I gotta say, sci-fi/fantasy/aliens...whatever you want to call this one, it's not really my thing. Cari Silverwood, though, has made me laugh and made me hot in the past so I figured, why not? And, I have to say, I quite enjoyed myself...

There was a lot going on in this short novella. It moved at warp speed, too, which meant that I struggled at times to keep up. I think Ms. Silverwood must be a damn sight smarter than I, because I felt a little twisted around with this one on occasion.

However, the core of the story was solid. It's a love story, opposites attract, redemption tale and that, I get. I enjoyed that aspect of it. I would have loved to see more of that, actually. It was hard to get into the story when the characters had so little time to develop, but nonetheless, I was rooting for them. And it's definitely got me interested in what's to come.

Precious Sacrifice is an intriguing start to a series I may not have otherwise picked up. Let's see what comes next...and whether I can keep up! ~ Beth, 3.5 stars

~~~
This story was a great introductory to the Preyfinders series. Cari wrote a novella that gave room for the story to develop and grow within the next few books. She didn't lay all her cards out on the table, you knew there was more to come which drew me in and had me keep reading.
Unfortunately, this book was only 85 pages. An extremely short read! There was no time for the main characters to bloom and have a real story of their own. While the plot was rich, the story behind the characters fell a bit short. ~ Kelly, 3 stars
Pecious Sacrifice
Cari Silverwood
I was given this story in exchange for an honest review.
Jadd Tekk is an Igrakk Warrior, and he is in a world of trouble.That is the funny thing about breaking the rules, it usually leads to some type of punishment and boy this one is a doozy. He has been assigned to be a Preyfinder in order to out whether humans are suitable to become Hunt trophies and ultimately Pets. He has been ordered to bond with a human but to stop the process before the final submission is formed. This promises to be extremely painful for both Jadd and the female chosen.
Her name is Brittany. She is being attacked and he rescues her. He is able to introduce her to the drug without her knowledge and the start of the bond is instant and deep. This is truly great writing on Cari's part. A little bit of alien mixed up with some mind control and then some super great sex. Throwing in some funky body markings as her body begins to change, it begins to develop markings in intimate spots that mark her as Jadd's Pet.
I thought this was a great start to what promises to be a great series. I enjoyed the emotional journey that Jadd needs to follow as he struggles with his feelings for Brittany and weighs them against what he has been trained to do for years. Follow orders, complete assignments. It promises to be an intersting story as these two new lovers complete their journey. I am dying to learn more about these warriors and the humans that they have chosen to belong to them. I would rate this story a 4/5.
This story is about a girl named Brittany and an alien named Jadd. Brittany’s boyfriend died about a year ago. She still mourns his loss. Jadd is alien warrior. He is getting slightly bored with his day to day life. It is always the same. His conscience gets in the way one time and he is demoted to a prey finder. He is to find this girl and start the bonding process on her to see if they are compatible for his people. This is all well and good until he falls in love with Brittany.
I really liked this book. He just wanted to do his job never expecting to fall in love with the woman who was supposed to help him save his job and get him out of trouble. He knew from the moment he met her there was something different about her. He felt very protective of her right away. I loved how protective of her right away. Total alpha male. All she is mine must protect her. Lol. Brittany knew she should be scared of him and want to run in the opposite direction. Instead she felt safest with him and like she loved him almost immediately. This book was well written and the characters were engaging. I can’t wait to read the second book in this series.
*I was given a copy of the KEPT anthology to read & review for Wicked Reads Review Team*
This was a well written Sci-fi erotic romance: it's short, it's sexy, and it's sweet (but not too sweet). I liked the storyline and felt like a lot of story was written in a small book (that's a good thing)!
Brittany is dealing with the loss of her boyfriend, a year ago, and trying to go through the motions of life.
Jadd is an exiled alien warrior, who is given a second chance at service by coming to Earth and proving he can be a Preyfinder.
And Brittany is the prey...and all of Earth's fate is based upon her ability to succumb to the aliens trials ;)
I'm sincerely looking forward to the 2nd book in this series!!
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
Aliens have feelings too. Trained from a young age to obey his commanders, Jadd falters in the heat of battle and is sent to Earth as punishment.
Brittany is just trying to make a better life for herself. working and going to school, she can feel that a change is about to happen and she fears its something bad.
Brittany's unconditional acceptance of her future only makes Jadd fall deeper for her, but will it make a difference in the end?
I'm ready for book two to learn more about the Preyfinders.
I think Cari Silverwood can write any genre she wants too. I really liked Precious Sacrifice and I look forward to reading more of this series. I just found out about the Preyfinders series today although this book has been around for a little while now.
Sci fi is probably not my favorite genre but, when sci fi is about sexy aliens I thought I would give it a try and besides I love Cari's books so I thought I would explore more and see what else she has written. Since she is writing more on this series this was a good time to start reading Precious Sacrifice.
Precious Sacrifice is a Novella so it is a quick read and priced right so if you don't like it you won't feel like you have wasted your money. However, I very much liked it and will start book 2 in Preyfinders Series tonight.
A great beginning to sexy series. Jadd is being punished for injuring one of his men while on duty. His punishment is to test an Earth woman and find out if the planet is star-faring and worthy of survival. The punishment is that he won’t be allowed to complete the mating and keep her, because her fate has already been sealed by another. Great story, and very sexy, I couldn’t put it down. Jadd is one hot alien! Looking forward to more in this series!
This story is a short, but stand alone, introduction to the Preyfinders series. It is well written and I enjoyed it enough to get the sequel immediately. The only real drawback is it's just too short to have much character development, which leaves both main characters rather stereotyped.
Different Concept.
Not sure who fell for whom, but the alien was definitely ensnared by the human. Me. Silverwood has a lot of rebuilding yet to do, but it was a lovely short introduction into a true romance, alien style.
The only bad thing I can say about this story... is that... darn it! I wish there had been more to it! I absolutely loved this story! I only intended to read the first chapter before going to bed... the next thing I know I am finishing the story :)) I loved this story! I can't say that enough. It sucked me in right from the beginning and didn't let me go. I have to know more about it!
What are these powers these women have? Is it magical? Or is it something else? Is it because they are somehow bonding differently with these warriors? So many questions! I need the answers now!
I really enjoyed this book. I loved reading about Jadd. He is something else. A warrior tired of death and questioning everything around him. I loved that Brittany was able to heal him. More then just on a physical level I do believe. I believe she mended some of the things inside him that all the war and death had broken in him.
I can't wait to dive into the next book in the series. I have so many questions and I hope to get more answers from that book... maybe even some of my questions answered about Talia and Brask.. that was an interesting meeting between them at the end and I have questions!
Precious Sacrifice Was A Disappointment To Me!
This book was disappointing to me, it just focused on the sex and didn’t have much action to it at all.
Yes it was well written but if I had known that the whole series was just going to be erotica I would have never bought all three books.
And that’s all I’m going to say about this book/series because I can guarantee someone isn’t agreeing with my opinion, but then again it’s my opinion.
This book/series may be someone’s cup of tea but it’s not mine so all I’m able to give is two stars.
