Knock, Knock. Four broke girlfriends go into a Long Island church looking for a job. Four trained assassins come out. The Cristal Clique is born when these young killers are immersed in the intense underworld of murder-for-hire.
But with youth comes naivete. When heartache, betrayal, and revenge lurk behind every door, these Brooklyn girls must remain on point if they want to stay alive.
Nisa Santiago came bursting onto the literary scene in 2009 with her debut title, Cartier Cartel. The book garnered rave reviews and left her readers wanting more. She followed up with the sequel, Return of the Cartier Cartel – which turned into a national bestseller. The Library Journal declared that Santiago’s sequel, [Return of the Cartier Cartel] “Will keep readers hooked to the last chapter.”
Born and raised in Brooklyn, and now living in Harlem, the author is moving at full speed with her writing endeavors. Coined the Duchess of Hop-Hip lit, Santiago humbly admits, “I’m just grateful to be doing what I love as a career and not just a hobby.”
Her latest novel, Bad Apple – The Baddest Chick is slated for an October 2011 release date. The author emphatically states that her decision to start a new series instead of penning part 3 to Cartier Cartel was a brave one. “My readers love Cartier and they wanted more.” Santiago wants her readers to know that she has so many stories to tell and shows no signs of slowing down. Dirty Money Honey is an anthology with her peers, Erica Hilton and Kim K., Melodrama Publishing’s new trinity of authors.
For starters, I am a huge fan of Nisa Santiago. Mind you, I am being generous with my three star review. Her books are always well edited ,so she will always score bonus points with me. I have to say the premise of the story was very shaky and very far fetched. Here we have a group of girls who have a tight knit friendship. The leader of the pact is known as Cristal. Under Cristal's leadership, they are involved in all types of schemes and looking for the next big come up. The opportunity presents itself when the clique meets the infamous EP. He affords Cristal and her friends entry into the organization known as the Commission. There, all the girls will learn the meaning of survival and gain the skills to become top notch assassins. Easy money also comes with many problems. Friendships will be tested and jaw dropping betrayals will surface. I will read the second part.
This was okay. I know Cristal isn't dead by the way they described the shooting. I just hope Hugo isn't dead either. All I know is, Tamar gonna get it :)
I chose this book only because of the author Nisa Santiago. She is a beast!!! From the beginning I couldn't put the book down. Her books tell stories that have you thinking, feeling and wishing they won't end. My only gripe and reason for 4 stars is that I absolutely HATE having to wait on part 2 or 3 or however many parts until the finale. Ms. Santiago if you read these reviews please, please, please don't keep us waiting forever for the remaining sequels. I need to know what really happened to Cristal, who us Ms Chin, what's the deal with Tamar and E. P. and when us Sharon coming back?????
Ms.Santiago definitely has a gift to wrap you in a story and character. I found myself not knowing if I was routing for Cristal or Tamar and I also fell in love with Hugo. Love love love this and I look forward to reading Part II and other books. I have read all past books before Murdergram from Ms. Santiago and was NOT disappointed... Definitely leaves you wanting more. Go get this book
Omg this book was off the damn hook. I stated last night woke up and finished it. I loved how Nisa Santiago just pulled you in with the characters. I can't say anything else because I will tell the story. I'm definitely getting part two because I still believe I know something but don't wanna spoil it for others. Great job Nisa Santiago.
The first couple pages had me ready to add to the DNF pile as the author unnecessarily used every basketball term and fundamental to describe the game taking place. But, I'm glad I stuck with it.The story line was good and each chapter became more and more intense. If it wasn't for a few grammatical errors and those first few pages- it would've definitely been a 5 star.
Nisan Santiago didn’t disappoint in Murdergram. The characters were best friends that was money & status hungry. Jealousy reared it’s ugly head. True love caused deaths. Tamar was a monster. I hate Cristal met her demise. This is a good read! On to book 2.
Wow an amazing read. Nisa Santiago is a great Arthur. I love her books. Of course I saw some things coming before they happened so I wasn't surprised at Cristal's fate nor was I surprised that Lisa didn't make it through the training.
Cristal, Tamar, Mona, Lisa and Sharon are besties. From the ghetto somewhere in NY, they take to boosting to make ends meet. When Cristal meets E.P, she allows him to persuade her into being a professional hit lady. lol. She pulls all of her friends into this plan except for Sharon, who is too busy enjoying her new man, Pike. What happens when ego gets involved and people start doing anything for their coin honey...lol
This was a pretty good read. It was a little predictable but still and enjoyable read. Read it in 1 day while on a sick day from work.
1.5 stars. I really don't know what to say about this book. Four friends (that are struggling financially, shoplifting, and relying on "ballers" to get by) from Brooklyn take on a "job" that requires them to kill people. The particulars are unimportant. They never really seemed like such good friends. Why they never inquired, or cared to know what happened to a friend that went through the screening process and they never saw again? I still have expectations of urban fiction. Nisa Santiago's books are sometimes an entertaining read for me. Not this time.
Good Read!!! To be honest I couldn't put the book down. Cristal is my favorite character she run the crew and she brought her friends in on a deal of a lifetime but was it really a deal. Murder for hire the money would solve all their problems. I hate what happened to Pike because Sharon finally found love and what shocked me was that she wanted to be a police officer that could be a good and bad thing.Tamar is a selfish bitch what she did to Mona and Cristal I hope she get what she deserved (death). E.P I hope the commission deal with him even tho he loved Chistal he lied to her about the commissionand Lisa. Hope that Cristal and Hugo survived. I think Sharon is going be the one that find out what happened to Lisa and Pike. On to part 2 the plot thickens
