Saving the world sucks. How would you know? That’s what you’re asking, right? Don’t—just don’t. Once you find out how close the world is to ending, you’ll regret knowing. I swear you will. Again, how would I know? Oh, because I’m the one charged with saving it. Hence the whole "saving the world sucks" thing.I’m Simone Lamia and this is how my day goes from bad to worse and just keeps going down the crapper. See there's this guy… no that doesn’t give enough context. He’s not just a guy, he’s a broody yet devilishly handsome guy who really needs to learn to speak nicely to strangers. Aaannnddd he’s a hellhound. But I didn’t know that at first. It’s a complicated meeting. Just read the story to find out. Trust me, it’s easier that way.

Rather hard to rate lower than 4 stars, but I do an occasional 3, and I literally feel sick when I give a 2.
Remember when you were in middle school and you thought holding hands and a stolen kiss was worth an hour long red-faced giggle?! Or in high school, when all the banter with your partner HAD to include some kind of sexual mention and jokes meant to be inside jokes about sex but everyone around you knew anyway?! Remember the awkwardness?? That's this.... all of this.
The characters are awkward. The banter is high school, and the spice is not spicy. FMC seems like she'd have a rude tone every time she opened her mouth.
And I'm really sad there wasn't proper research on Wicca... I understand that you might have been going for cozy fall read, but....

I do appreciate getting to read this and being entrusted to give my true thoughts. I will 100 percent try another book by this author.

My goodness! I loved this book! A perfect start to my October and Fall reads!

The book took me by surprise and made me laugh so many times. I loved the banter between Simone and Conner. Their relationship was so sweet and so cute and funny.

I read a ton of books involving witches and demons so, starting out, this book reminded me a little of A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness.

I highly recommend this book! Read it to watch Simone and Conner kick demon booty in an action packed adventure to save the world!!

Witches, Hellhounds and saving the world… sounds like a full days work to me!

Simone’s life takes an unexpected turned that leads her to meet her protector. From there it’s a whirlwind adventure to unlocking latent magical abilities and family secrets.

I absolutely loved the prospect of the book and wished I could love it more. I finished because I wanted to know what would happen but the ending just didn’t do it for me. I’d give another book a go because I’m curious where the adventure takes us.

I think this is a good spooky season read for those who enjoy witchy reads, under/other worldly beings and found family (literally and figuratively)!

Thank you to the author, Sarah Zolton Arthur, for an advanced epub of this book for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I was given an ARC of A Witch-ish Guide to Protectors & Pendulums in exchange for an honest review.

This was such a cute book. The MMC and FMC had such amazing banter and the FMC’s inner monologue was so funny. These parts specifically felt very real, almost like I was listening to a friend or a friend and their partner talk. I also really liked learning a bit more about witches and witch culture. It took me a little longer than usual to read this book because I kept stopping to google things. While I’m sure everything isn’t 100% accurate (it’s a fiction book…I wasn’t expecting accuracy) it was cool to piece things together as I was going and I thought it really added to the story.

I wasn’t personally a fan of the ending, it felt very abrupt and I had to read it a few times to see if I missed something. But that one part doesn’t stop me from giving this book a good review!

Struggled a little to stay engaged with the content, but overall, if you like a more YA, romance, he protects her at all costs, it is definitely top tier. The MMC being mated to the FMC and that she is HIS no matter what, jealousy level 100%! He would do anything for her and I loved that. It set the mood for the season and holiday coming up!

It had some mystery in it as well which I love. Trying to find out who did *it* and why is always a fun thing for me to do, along with all the little cookie crumbles that happen throughout the book.

I loved the banter between the two and other characters, but also got annoyed with it at some points because it seemed like that’s all that happened in certain areas and it drew out the chapters, but it was enjoyable!

I want to start by saying that since it was an ARC, I forced myself to finish the book because I volunteered to read and review it, but if it had been a book that I purchased, I would have DNF within the first 25%. I'm giving it a neutral 3⭐️ because while it unfortunately wasn't for me, I cannot say it was a bad book or badly written. I think the synopsis is a very intriguing one, if you're unsure if you want to read this book or not, I say give it a chance.

The writing is actually pretty good, in my opinion, because the author has effectivity gotten me to strongly dislike the FMC Simone for reasons I would dislike anyone I met with a similar personality. At the beginning of the book, she's a lot too much TSTL for my tastes, but she is self-aware enough to know that she's putting herself into dangerous situations. As her powers grow, she did get more tolerable in that sense, and I felt that she became a more likeable character.

I personally would have liked more build up to the relationship between the MCs. I understand they're fated mates, and with that comes a little instalove/instalust, but they went from seemingly hating one another to in love and unable to keep their hands off each other too quickly. I think instalove stories just aren't for me, so I should avoid them in the future.

Reading as an ARC copy, I feel so honored!! I cannot wait more!

A story about some famous Biblical People, Hellhounds, Witches & "What are you?" aka, Liliums.
The banter between Simone & her Hellhound Protector & Mate, Conner is pretty great & Simone's inner monologue is just hilarious. The intense scenes of battles between Hell Demons & Magical Folk, including peace wanting demons, both sides with humans is something that will keep you from putting the book down.
The love between Simone & Conner brings some SPICE to the book, but also new found family & friends & learning who you truly are.
4.5 Stars as I felt some scenes drug out more so than needed but definitely a great read!!

ARC Review
A Witch-ish Guide to Protectors and Pendulums was a fun read. I enjoyed the characters, Simone and Connor had great chemistry and I loved their fated mate story and her unwillingness to give in and believe it at first. They are great banter. All the side characters were great as well.

I really enjoyed this book! I feel very lucky that’s I was gifted an ARC of the book. It was cute and cozy. I loved the picture that the author was able to paint. I love that the FMC wasn’t teeny and so small she would snap under her mate. There’s a few things when it came to the spicy things that I was kind of like okay different wording would have been better. But it was overall a great book. I finished in a day! I couldn’t put it down!

I got this as an ARC and I really wanted to love this book, but while I mostly enjoyed reading it I don’t think I would recommend it.

The writing feels rushed and jumpy - a lot of the context setting in the beginning feels very “I need to get this out of the way to get into the story so here’s what you need to go” and because of that the main characters first few interactions with the love interest feel very jarring and out of character. She jumps from mourning her fiancé to sexually eying up a random man and then jumping into bed with him really quickly and it just feels very off.

The main characters vibe has me torn between loving the sass and feeling like it’s forced and fabricated at times - like that’s how a sassy mc is supposed to sound and respond so that’s what was written, rather than building up the character and responding in the way they would.

The event feel jumpy sometimes - like rather than easing from one location to the other or one even to the other, it’s just a series of plot points we’re jumping to and hitting. The ending itself even felt abrupt with a quick ending to a battle and an abrupt scene chance to a paragraph ending.

With that said, I enjoyed the premise of the story and I love a good fated mates/ he would k!ll anyone who touches her trope, and the tension between them is fun once the awkward rushed meeting and mates stage is passed.

I enjoyed seeing the different faces and the way hell and satan were portrayed in the book, as well as the story behind Adam & Lilith and the creation of humans and witches. I found the world building to be very interesting and the characters were fun and added some nice dynamics to the story.

To me, this feels like it could have used one more round of fine tuning the writing and I would have loved it. All the elements are there, the writing just didn’t do it for me. It felt rushed and jumpy.

A world where darkness tore them apart, deciding the fate of future generations. A love gone sour due to greed for power, and senseless acts of evil that changed everyone's destiny. Ancient magic has awakened, causing the darkness to ignite seeking the power for themselves they will stop at nothing to obtain it.

Simone a young witch, owns a shop that supplies other witches with the things they need to cast spells and brew potions. Her life has been quiet since the death of a loved one, drawn to a thrift store she meets a brooding man who awakens an ancient power hidden away for protection. The man who has an effect on every aspect of her is named Connor a hellhound whose best friend is a fallen angel. Finding herself in dangerous situations to get answers for a past murder, Connor continuously shows up to whisk her away from a danger that lurks behind every corner searching for her. Once a hatred between the bonded pair turns into something more as they divulge deeper into a mystery that puts everyone around her including herself in danger.

When I first read this book, I thought the main characters were childish, but as I started reading further along, I understood that they weren't childish they just enjoyed a friendly banter. I started to fall in love with the book and the characters introduced especially a certain fallen angel that has a bad reputation. The author did a fantastic job of putting so much into one book, you have humor, secrets, magic, romance, and evil. I loved that while the worst was happening, they could still joke to lighten the mood. I related to Simone a lot because I love friendly banter and making jokes in a situation to ease the tension. Sarah Zolton Arthur created loveable characters that anyone can relate to, and she did a fantastic job of setting the mood as the story divulged deeper into the mystery surrounding Simone and her past.

Simone's life took a tragic turn two years ago when a simple craving for ice cream led to the loss of her fiancé in a random crime. Now, after all this time, she's finally ready to retrieve his belongings from the police station, but nothing could have prepared her for the bizarre day ahead.

It all begins when she meets a grumpy yet incredibly sexy man at a second-hand store—Connor. Despite his sour attitude, she feels an instant, unexplainable connection. Then, as if her day couldn’t get any stranger, she runs into another grumpy guy, the detective on her fiancé's case. Simone chalks it all up to the full moon, the same time her peculiar "taser fingers" always make their appearance.

Simone knows she has magic but knows she’s not a witch, because other witches always ask, “What are you?” Her world takes a twist when she discovers that Connor, the mysterious man from the second-hand store, is not just any guy—he’s her mate and a hellhound who works for Lucifer. Together, they uncover that Connor is not only her mate but also her protector, a rare and extraordinary bond.

What follows is a thrilling, laugh-out-loud adventure as Simone and Connor team up to save the world from a mysterious demon, as Simone discovers who she really is and her purpose. The banter between them is priceless, especially if you're a fan of a good grumpy male lead! Sarah's reimagining of the Adam, Eve, and Lilith story is unique, gripping, and addictive.

If you love strong magic, fated mates, and hilarious, grumpy-protective dynamics, A Witch-ish Guide to Protectors and Pendulums should definitely be on your TBR!

*Warning: This book contains references to biblical figures, which may be sensitive for some readers. If this is a subject you hold in high regard, this book may not be the best fit.*

Now, onto the review:

This book offers an intriguing, fast-paced adventure full of witches, magic, and supernatural creatures, all woven into a unique storyline. While I enjoyed the fresh take on these elements, it’s important to note that the use of biblical figures might feel controversial for some readers.

The dynamic between the two main characters was compelling, but at times, the relationship felt a bit underdeveloped. Although they are fated mates, I would have liked to see more emotional complexity between them rather than just relying on the trope. That said, their interactions were fun, and the humor throughout the book was a nice touch.

Simone’s journey of self-discovery, especially as she learns to harness her magic, was one of the stronger points for me. The friendships that developed along the way felt genuine, and I appreciated how these relationships were explored.

Luc, in particular, stole the show for me. Anytime he appeared, I knew something entertaining was about to happen. His presence added a lot of levity and excitement to the story.

Overall, the book strikes a great balance of humor, magic, and action. If there’s a sequel, I’d love to see more emotional depth in the relationships and perhaps a touch more spice!

- I’d like to extend my thanks to the author, Sarah Arthur, for the free eARC and for giving me the opportunity to be part of her ARC team. I’m excited to read more of her work in the future!

⚠️TW - death(murder) of fiance ⚠️

🔥Spice Ahead (varying degrees)🔥
Chapter 7
Chapter 25
Chapter 28

This book has a very interesting story line that I enjoyed reading. I haven't read another story like it so I wasn't easily able to predict what was going to happen next which I really enjoyed. I loved Connor from the moment his grumpy self was introduced and I enjoyed Simone and her sassy self. Honestly, all of the characters were the right amount of sass and every bit enjoyable to read. I am sad to have finished the book because Simone and Connor's story was fun and entertaining, I will say though, I wish it had a smidge more spice. But overall definitely a good read! 4/5⭐

⚠️Spoilers⚠️
One thing I didn't like was there were parts where once I knew what was happening I felt like Simone and at least Connor should have put things together sooner. Like the B. el-Zebu.. even I put Beelzebub together for THAT. And then Cain.. why did they not register Cain as in Adam's son?

Quotes:
"You cannot CliffsNotes, long story short that, girl. Long story long. Now " 😂😂😂

I loved the crap out of Luc-in a sisterly way, but, like, not a Cersei and Jamie Lannister sisterly way-although Luck was hot. But no... just no. 🤣

I received this fabulous book as an ARC in return for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun, cute, magical, spooky, sexy and funny. The plot was full of twists and turns and at times I wondered how it would work, and every time it came together. Also it starts out based in Michigan and hint hint I’m in Michigan so that was fun!!!

The main female character Simone was witty, sexy, smart and pretty much a bad ass. The banter between her and Connor had me straight giggling. Her constant dog quips made me smile so hard it hurt🥹and she had a familiar!!! Mr. Pooches🐈‍⬛

Connor the main male character/Simone’s fated mate/hell hound protector was 🥵 He was everything you need out of a male character/counterpart. His words were swoon worthy and made me all heart eyes😍 when he got all protective and mooshy over his mate.

With the on the edge of your seat, plot, closed door-ish spicy scenes, witchy magic🧙, witty mates, and sexy characters (hello!! Can’t forget Luc/Lucifer) I rated this book a solid 4 1/2 stars⭐️I just wish the ending wasn’t so abrupt and we got a little bit more. I feel like this is a book that could’ve had two or three more parts and it would’ve been just as interesting🫶🏻

First off I would like to thank the author for allowing me to be a part of her ARC team. But I want to state that by doing so, she has not swayed the review itself and my review is solely based on the book itself. :)

I absolutely enjoyed the writing style of this book. The tone and language used flowed very well and kept my attention fixed through the whole book. The character dynamics that she created through conflict and witty bantering put them all on such a relatable level that you felt like you were sitting watching the conversations. The depth created in the story was very engaging and kept you on the edge of your seat. Chapter to chapter you had no idea where you were going to be (in a good way!) and you meet and bond with so many characters throughout.

This is one I hope they do an audiobook for as well because I would love to come back to it and listen to it and see if I pick up things I missed the first time.
There were a few instances where I am wondering if she was opening up characters and relationships for a next book, so I am excited to see where it goes from here! And I can say, it actually has a satisfying ending, but also has openness to explore in the future without leaving you angry and fuming for the next (I seriously appreciate that)

I really loved this book! I devoured it in a little over 1 day. Simone is hilarious but fierce and is such a fun FMC. Connor is a hellhound and nothing will stand in the way of him and his mate!

Simone lost her fiance 2 years ago. She feels it's time to start sorting and getting rid of his things. When she stops in a thrift shop, she meets surly Connor who refuses to even help her hold the door. Simone is asked by her former fiances parents to pick up his belongings from the police station and his case has gone cold.

When Simone looks through her former fiances phone, she sees maybe he wasn't as squeaky clean as everyone thought. She was hiding her taser fingers that came with the full moon once a month, but that's nothing compared to what he was doing. While Simone is investigating, Connor the hellhound, attempts to kidnap her.

Life is literally turned upside down when Connor explains that they are mated. Simone soon learns there is way more to the story of her powers and what her destiny entails. Connor and her must work together as a team and enlist the help of the Lilium and other allies, including the one and only Lucifer!

If you love witchy books with strong FMC's, banter, and spice....grab this book ASAP! You will not be sorry.

I was selected as an ARC reader for this book and I can honestly say it's a big reason I finished the book.

For a book about fated mates, the spice level was extremely low and pretty much glossed over all of the spicy scenes. Their bond as mates I have to say is on the low side as well, considering her dead grandmother pops into head in the middle of her mate going down on her, tells her they need to do something and they essentially shrug their shoulders and go do the thing.

The banter was okay, but after so many obvious sexual jokes I just started rolling my eyes. The same thing also went for the overuse of the words manifest (used 130 times) and universe (76 times).

As far as the plot went, the whole book could been over about halfway through when the FMC discovers she can manifest every single thing she wants. At that point just zap the bad guy to an unescapable prison cell and call it a job well done. I really liked the premise of the book, and I did like a lot of the stuff along the way such as the altered Adam and Eve myth, Hell being a corporation, and the found family aspects of all the Lilium finding each other. I just wish it had been executed better.

I was chosen as an ARC reader for this book, and this is my voluntary review. I was very excited about the concept of this book, fated mates is one of my favorite tropes. I wish there had been more spice in this in this book, the majority of the spicy scenes happened very early on in the story and there was not much at all towards the end. I would have liked to see more build up and tension between the romantic leads. I also did not like that scene where Lilith appeared in the middle of Connor going down on his mate. I enjoyed the banter between the main characters for the most part. It started to feel a little repetitive towards the end of the book. I also felt like certain words were overused, for example the word “manifest”. In terms of the plot, I felt like the conflict could have been solved as soon as she discovers that see has the power to manifest anything she wants. She could have just zapped the bad guys away and been done with it. I had high hopes for this book and was intrigued by the spin on the Adam and Eve myth. This book was just not for me, but I think it could have been very interesting if certain aspects of the story had been executed a little better.

What to expect:
🧙Paranormal Romance
🧙Enemies to Lovers
🧙Insta-love
🧙Found Family
🧙Witches, shifters and hellhounds
🧙Fated Mates

🔥 My thoughts:
There was a lot going on in this book and I was confused a bit at times. However, I thought it was a fun and cute read. I loved the magic and witches and shifters mixed with humans and that they just exist and I love it. I thought the plot was great and it kept me entertained. I was not a fan of the MFC, Simone. I thought she was a little unlikeable and came across very arrogant. Conner, the MMC, was a bit more likable, but still he was not my fav. I understand they are fated mates, but the “Insta-love” came randomly and at odd and inappropriate times and that some seemed totally out of place
I did think the side characters were amazing and loved them all and the found family aspect was perfect. Unraveling the “mystery” was great to the story but the ending was a little lackluster. It was a great, fun read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 Stars

I just finished *A Witch-ish Guide to Protectors and Pendulums*, and wow, what a delightful surprise! As someone who isn't typically drawn to witch-related stories, I approached this ARC with a mix of curiosity and skepticism. But from the very first page, I was hooked!

The banter between Simone and Connor is absolutely phenomenal—sharp, witty, and laugh-out-loud funny. Seriously, I found myself chuckling and giggling way more than I expected. And can we talk about the dog jokes? They had me in stitches! 🐶 I also love Luc and his flirty humor. I kind of wish there was more of him.

The plot twists and suspenseful turns kept me on my toes, making this not just a lighthearted read but an engaging one as well. If you’re looking for a book that combines humor, charm, and a touch of magic, this is it! Highly recommend for anyone looking to dive into an entertaining adventure.

I received this book as an ARC and while I really wanted to love it and seems like it's a perfect book for October, I really did struggle trying to get through it. This book, sadly, wasn't for me.
I did really enjoy the banter, which is what I was hoping for when I first discovered the book. Their banter was so playful and hilarious! I also loved how the author portrayed an interesting version of Hell, which I loved reading about.
As for the things I personally didn't like...
Simone and Connor would have been a perfect rivals to lovers couple, which I love a good slow burn, but that was not there for this story. They basically fell in love instantly, which is not really my cup of tea. Everything about the book was very instant, so everything happened very quickly to the point I was honestly confused at a few points.
While this book wasn't for me, it's a good book for anyone who loves an extremely fast paced, fated supernatural romance, with a ton of banter!

I want to thank the author for allowing me to read this book!

Oh my, was this a book! Great for spooky season! I laughed a lot! Rom-Com, Romantasy, Thriller. Mates for life, he falls first and harder, touch her and die tropes.

This book is about a woman named Simone who is investigating her fiance’s murder when she gets more than she’s bargained for. She ends up finding her mate Connor who is a hellhound, the dog puns had me ROTFL! Turns out someone is trying to take over the magic in the world and Simone has to unbury the past, embrace her identity, push past all her limits, open her heart to save not only her people, legacy and magic but life itself!

Can’t wait for more! Halfway through this book I decided this author is now an auto buy author!

I want to preface by saying, I found out that I don’t really care much for the insta-love/relationship trope, and almost DNFed this book about 25% through because that’s all it was about; HOWEVER, once the plot picked up, I couldn’t put it down! Simone and Connor’s relationship and banter actually grew on me the more I read their story.

I absolutely loved how the author meshed a retelling of Adam and Eve with the prospect of Hades from Greek Mythology. It is an interesting take on a story I’ve heard all too often, and magic was added to that new equation!

Insta-love/relationship, fated mates, shifter, touch her and die, forced proximity, hidden abilities, found family, hidden bloodline, mix between open and closed door spice, banter, this book had it all!

ARC review.

This book was 50/50 love hate. The concepts and interwoven themes were really cool. I love the new take on the underworld mixed with the old biblical concepts. I hope in the coming books that premise is explored more because it is so unique and interesting and could be its own fantasy tale but it felt like it was left incomplete, perhaps on purpose.

I didn’t enjoy the lack of relationship building between the mates. Casting it as “the universe knows what it’s doing” really seemed uninspiring and perhaps lazy. I think I would have been more invested in the main characters if they were given the chance to grow and not just been so superficial.

Overall it’s is a 3 star read. Not all bad not blowing my socks off either.

I was given an ARC of A Witch-ish Guide to Protectors & Pendulums in exchange for an honest review.

I loved the twist on a well-known story. I loved the theme and the characters (Karro, I loved him most) that get introduced throughout the book. The banter between main characters was some of my favorite of the whole book. The story kept my attention fairly well with action and fast paced, though at times a little too fast for my personal taste. Also, fast burn romance. I'm all for a good fast burn romance but I wish it would have taken just a little longer to get to it. I felt like I got a little whiplash from her being upset and grieving for the past to bam sex with a hot mate.

Overall, I would recommend for you to give the book a chance.

I was given the opportunity to be an ARC reader for A Witch-ish Guide to Protectors and Pendulums by Sarah Zolton Arthur! And, what a ride it was!

Every chapter was full of fantasy and fun, witty jokes and banter. Our main characters come with awesome back stories and the story line was easy to follow and well written. The ending was strong and satisfying (which is very important to me). If you like fated mates, found family, supernatural creatures, demons, chaos, comedy, witchy antics, action, and romance, this is a perfect Halloween seasonal read!

Overall, I loved this book and I will be keeping my eye out for more from this author! Follow their page to stay up to date on all things Witch-ish. C;
