Martin Cole, Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Engineering, has produced two short novels on the basis of his fascination with ancient civilizations, languages and spiritual histories.
The Code of the Pharaoh offers the reader a satisfying and fast-paced adventure. The plot is well-woven and based around the discovery of ancient mystical secrets encapsulated within Egyptian hieroglyphs. An engaging team of three undertakes archaeological investigations in the Great Sphinx only to find themselves embroiled in the dangerous designs of a criminal mastermind bent on exploiting the ancient secrets for his own purposes. The adventure which follows will take our heroes from the distinctive environment of the Nile Valley to other sites of note in England, Wales and the United States.
The main characters and their inter-relations are revealed and explored in the course of the action, to humorous and intriguing effect. From the earliest pages the reader is keen to see them triumph over adversity in this familiar genre of amateur good versus well-practised evil. A very impressive final twist and surprising outcome await!
Disbelief may need to be suspended in the face of one or two slightly unlikely turns of event but this is generally acceptable within the overall tenor of the novel.
