This is the story of a suburban street told by the people who live in it, from when it was built early in the last century up until the present day. Stephanie White talked to the oldest residents, to learn how they had lived through the Depression of the 1930s, the Blitz, and then the post-war years. What emerged was a picture of how the street has operated as a village-like community. Residents tell the story in their own words, and the tale is brought up to date by comments from a group of younger people who have recently moved into the Avenue, with todays's lifestyles, and today's problems. The two groups combine to give a vivid and human picture of how a community can evolve.
