This is an excellent, well-written book on Seasonal Affective Disorder.

This book does a fantastic job of shining a light on a disorder that is often overlooked. We are provided with a comprehensive description of the disorder, including its neurochemical basis, without being overly academic. More importantly, we are given treatments and shown lifestyle modifications that can be easily implemented. We’re shown how to lessen the symptoms, but people with SAD are instructed to adjust their daily (and seasonal) activities to make better use of the sunlight. I don’t agree with everything in this book (but that only means that I was giving my full attention!). I love books that prompt me to think, plan, and strategize, and this book does just that. I’m a doctor in Alabama, so I don’t see much SAD, but it still prompted me to find ways to treat my patients better. I often found myself daydreaming about how I would rearrange my treatment rooms to allow in more light, how to incorporate aromatherapy, and what music to play. I love the practicality of this book. It explains what is happening, how it affects your emotions, steps to take to limit its impact, and describes a clear path to a better life. Well done. -Erik P. Lessmann, MD

Explains difference between SAD and Winter Blues

The author does a great job of explaining what is and what is not seasonal affective disorder. I appreciated the different strategies offered throughout this book to mitigate SAD symptoms, including empathy from loved ones about the condition. This is a good book for those with SAD and their close friends and family members to read.
