The Fighter's Secretary

Rate this book
His prim and proper secretary has a naughty side…

Amanda’s attraction to her boss, former UFC World Champion Dallas Ortega, is off the charts. The bad boy turned successful businessman is hot, smart, and everything she’s ever wanted in a guy. The bad news? He’s also a notorious ladies man. Amanda has no intention of becoming another one of his conquests, but a girl can fantasize…

Dallas can’t believe it when he views a security tape showing Amanda, his classy, elegant secretary, doing very naughty things with one of the BDSM toys he left in his office. He’s been falling for Amanda for months and struggling to keep their relationship professional. Now? He’s going for the win. Dallas isn’t above using a little blackmail and trickery to get his submissive secretary into his bed and, hopefully, get him inside her heart.

About the author

Ann Mayburn

Ann is Queen of the Castle to her wonderful husband and three sons in the mountains of West Virginia. In her past lives she's been an Import Broker, a Communications Specialist, a US Navy Civilian Contractor, a Bartender/Waitress, and an actor at the Michigan Renaissance Festival. She also spent a summer touring with the Grateful Dead(though she will deny to her children that it ever happened).

From a young age she's been fascinated by myths and fairytales, and the romance that often was the center of the story. As Ann grew older and her hormones kicked in, she discovered trashy romance novels. Great at first, but she soon grew tired of the endless stories with a big wonderful emotional buildup to really short and crappy sex. Never a big fan of purple prose, throbbing spears of fleshy pleasure and wet honey pots make her giggle, she sought out books that gave the sex scenes in the story just as much detail and plot as everything else-without using cringe worthy euphemisms. This led her to the wonderful world of Erotic Romance, and she's never looked back.

Now Ann spends her days trying to tune out cartoons playing in the background to get into her 'sexy space' and has learned to type one handed while soothing a cranky baby.

The Fighter's Secretary by Ann Mayburn features a hot UFC fighter and his spunky secretary. OMG the story was so hot, especially the video taped scene that gets Dallas and Amanda's relationship started.

I really liked that Amanda wasn't a pushover and really made Dallas work for the relationship. The story also had several great secondary characters. Hopefully this is a start of a series cause I would love to read about the brothers...maybe even the head of security (loved how he was worried about protecting his family jewels). This is one of those stories that I would read again. highly recommend!!!

LOVED IT

This is the first time I've read anything by this author, it certainly won't be the last. Dallas a former UFC world champion is now retired and a very successful businessman. Amanda is Dallas's personal assistant, she's already half in love with him. But he's the biggest womaniser she's ever met, so she'd never ever become the subject of his short attention span, she has more self respect.

Dallas wants Amanda he knows there zero chance with her, she's made her mind up about him. But then Amanda does something very foolish which places her in Dallas's control.

I loved this short story, it's very well written. I liked all the characters, especially Dallas he was hot and sexy. The chemistry was electric between him and Amanda. lt was great to read how he slowly got under her defences. The sex was hot and passionate, there are elements of BDSM in this as well. With a little bit of drama thrown in this was a great read. Dallas has two brothers one of them featured in this story. I'd love it if the author were to make this a series

This is a short and sexy story of two people who finally got their chance to find their happy ever after and some action between the sheats. If you have an extra hour of your life, spend it reading this beauty. I read it before I went to sleep and what a great night that was :*

Definitely worth the time!

The "romance" part of the story starts with the hero blackmailing the heroine into having a sexual/bdsm thing with him. Rape fantasies generally aren't my thing, and selling it as not-rape because the heroine gets off tends to make me stabby. Orgasm does not equal consent. The lack of any sort of "rape fantasy" warning makes me uncertain whether the author or publisher gets that, which is why I'm being pedantic here. And since I've already got my pedant hat on, I might as well add that coersion and bdsm are not synonyms.

As this is a very short, sex-focused novella, I can't distract myself with the characters or worldbuilding. DNF near the halfway mark.

Edit to add: Re-reading the blurb, I see there was a warning about blackmail. Not sure if I missed that the first time through or if I naively assumed there'd be some relationship development before the (coerced) sex.

2nd edit: I went back and tried this again after enjoying the author's "Wicked" series. I was able to finish this time, but I'm sticking with the one star rating because at no time did I ever feel like the hero had the remotest degree of respect for the heroine. He acted like an abusive jerk, she'd get mad, he'd apologize in some grand gesture that was delivered in a way that deliberately crossed the heroine's boundaries, repeat. I can kind of see how she'd believe in him given they were really only dating for like 3 days by the time this story ends, but that's certainly no HEA. It's not even really a HFN.

I really enjoyed this book. Dallas was smoking hot. The sex was fabulous. I would have loved a longer book, to see a little deeper into each character. I hope that we will see future books with Dallas's brothers and friend. I liked Amanda a lot, she was submissive to Dallas in the bedroom, but not taking any bad behavior anywhere.

Dallas Ortega grew up in the ghettos of Chicago and made his fortune with his fists. He was the former UFC World Champion and now he's a successful businessman. He invents and develops new gear and equipment for fighters. Someone has stolen a $6,000 diamond and gold pair of nipple clamps from his desk drawer. He ordered them ten months ago for his cheating, skank ex-girlfriend. Amanda is his Personal Assistant, she started working for him about six months ago. He's shocked when his head of security shows him video surveillance of Amanda getting friendly with the clamps.

This is the second book by Ann Mayburn I've read. The other one was RS I read last year (GUARDING HOPE). The two stories are very different, this being a BDSM erotic romance, but one thing they have in common is Ann's great writing style. It has a certain roughness to it that's unapologetic and I love that.

Being a novella of not quite 90 pages this was one of those reads where character development and build-up to both internal and external conflicts as well as their resolution was sacrificed in favor of some seriously hot scenes. Though I would have liked a bit more depth and some things, like the conflict and its resolution, happened too quickly I really enjoyed how smoking hot, raw and dirty it was. This made it hard for me to rate this read because as much as I love and appreciate dirty sexy scenes, I also want to emotionally connect with the characters and the romance and I didn't quite manage that with THE FIGHTER'S SECRETARY.

Memorable Scene:
- Dallas watching the security video of Amanda with the clamps > Wow! Smoking hot!

Favorite Quotes:
“Amanda is not my secretary,” came Dallas’s automatic reply. “She’s my personal assistant. If she hears you call her my secretary she’ll have your balls in her purse.”

The way he said her name, like he was relishing the words on his tongue, never failed to send her pulse racing, but she ignored it as best she could.

Dallas was about as dominant as they came and the hidden, submissive side of her nature cried out in longing to kneel at his feet.
An image of doing just that, clad only in those beautiful nipple clamps, flashed through her mind and she imagined nuzzling her face against the crease where his balls met his leg and drowning in his scent while he gripped her hair hard enough to hurt.

[...]she almost moaned when he brushed his rough thumb over her lower lip. The need to draw his thumb into her mouth, to suck on it, to nibble at the tip and taste him tempted her to the point where she parted her lips and a needy little whimper escaped.

I just finished The Fighters Secretary and I must say, what a hot read. What you have is Dallas. A retired fighter working now as a business man who is in the market for selling equipment and new gears for fighters. He makes a good living at it too. He has just about everything a man can ask for. Money, cars, beautiful home but what he wants most is Amanda. His secretary. She considers him basically a man whore and to him he agrees but no longer. He wants Amanda bad and knows that she is a commitment type of girl. He has tried and and she turns him down all the time but he has now found a way to "blackmail" her into giving him a shot. His expensive nipple clamps are missing. His security staff sets up a camera and we find out who the culprit is. None other than Amanda but looks can be deceiving. What he finds out in the tape is that she wants him too. Now he has a chance to get her. Will she see the error of her ways and following his lead or will she except the terms an go to jail? You will have to read and see

Wow, this was a quick sexy read but it packed a lot of punch. It's sexy, quirky, and fun. I really enjoyed this story and it had me from the get go. I so didn't want to put it down.

Dallas is a hottie. All the gals want him. He's rich and can get anything he ever could want. But he wants some one that wants him for him. Amanda is that girl but she has seen way to many girls come and go and ultimately doesn't want to get hurt. It's all about taking a risk. You either reap the rewards or your learn from your mistake. Their banter was hot and sexy and man it just was on fire!!!!

It might be a quick read but it was well worth it. You gotta get it. You will be satisfied.

I have this guilty pleasure, soft spot for employer/employee romances, so this caught my eye. I was provided with a wonderful over the desk scene in this book. (Yum)
This series of books is called Bad Boys. It all is about guys with dubious character and/or reputations. The Fighter’s Secretary lived up to that.
UFC Champion Dallas Ortega, got employee – Personal Assistant/secretary Amanda Dumham, to play with him in a rather unscrupulous way. In my opinion, as the story proceeded, Mr. Ortega didn’t do a lot to redeem himself - other than have a wonderful relationship with his mother. Amanda knew what kind of man Mr. Ortega was – a womanizer who didn’t commit – and she found it very difficult to curb her feelings for him. When she does succumb, forgive him and give him another chance, he screws that up too, in the worst possible way – publicly accusing her of cheating. He was truly a jackass and didn’t deserve her – at all - either as an employee or a girlfriend. But alas, we must have a happy ending, so, in the end, all gets forgiven. *sigh*
Overall, this was a decent story and held my attention. It had a nice plot and moved along at a good pace. I didn’t particularly like Mr. Ortega, but Amanda and the rest of his family were very likable. I wouldn’t mind seeing a book about chief of security, Richie Wells or brother, Austin. Fighter’s Secretary would make an acceptable summer beach read. Enjoy.

Seriously? Seriously?
Okay, I'm all for dominating men, but that guy is just an asshole. First he and then he . I mean, seriously? And what does she do? Just because he says , she softens and lets him play with her sexually, when the fight and her 'anger' haven't even been over for like a second ? Also, he has said himself how bitchy and manipulative his ex is, yet he believes her over the woman who has been always proper with him? SERIOUSLY?
I'm sorry, no, bad book, bad story. I can take mistakes happening because of other reasons, but not stupidity, just plain stupidity like that. No.

Dallas Ortega is one Alpha Man...and his admin assistant Amanda is secretly wishing she is his...

How this story starts is someone "stole" something of Dallas's or so Dallas thought...and when Dallas sees what really happened to the missing items and how it involves Amanda..things get hot, heavy and intense.

Even though this is a very short novella. I loved it. I hope we get to read more in this world that the author has given us. I am going back and doing my third reading of this story as I end this review.

Short. Sweet. And very sexy. I would have loved this as a longer story with more backstory on the characters and their lives. But, I'm definitely not complaining with the story that was presented. Verra hawt.

What a steamy read! I absolutely loved it. Dallas was so hot (love those romance books that feature sexy fighters). And when he switched to Spanish... hot damn! I could honestly envision him talking in my head. I loved Amanda as well, she might have been submissive in the bedroom but she did not let people walk over her outside of it. I wish the story was a bit longer though, it was over way too fast. I would love to see Austin get his own book. In the meantime, I think I will check out other books written by this author. Although this time I won't make the mistake of starting reading them while in work, that I way I can avoid the awkward question: "What are you reading?" :P

Good, short read.

I enjoyed this book. It was short but I got to know the characters a little. I liked them. I liked the storyline. How Dallas got Amanda to hook up with him was very interesting. LOL There seemed to be more characters that have potential to be so much more, like Dallas' brother. Anyway, the ending was good as well. Glad I gave it a read.

I like it, this is short, fast read. Cute heroine and grumpy UFC hero. Plenty of steamy dirty sex and hero throwing temper tantrum like a child.

This is a fun fast read. Not to be taken too seriously. No one in their right mind will use a stranger's nipple clamp and masturbate in their boss' office. I sincerely hope no one will do that....

The Fighter’s Secretary is a quick and sexy read that is exactly what the name implies, a story about the fighter’s secretary. Amanda has worked for her boss, Dallas, for a year and is well-acquainted with his reputation as a player. As his personal assistant, she is often the one stuck refusing calls from one-night stands and fending off ex-girlfriends. So despite her attraction, she refuses all of his advances because she will not join the legion of notches on his bedposts.

Apparently Amanda is quite convincing in her refusals as Dallas has no clue that his attraction is reciprocated … that is, until she gets caught on camera trying on some rather risqué jewelry in his office. I have to say that masturbation scenes don’t tend to do much for me, but good gracious that was a hot scene. Were it not for Ms. Mayburn’s use of dual perspectives in this book, I may have been less inclined to like Dallas when he attempted to blackmail Amanda; but access to their inner thoughts made this a non-issue for me and enriched the story quite a bit – especially during the sex scenes. As to be expected, there is a bit of drama and while the party incident was resolved rather quickly (albeit in appropriate timeframe for a novella), it allowed the characters to get the most important part of the story … declaring their love for one another (you thought I was going to say something about sex, didn’t you?).

The Fighter’s Secretary is a steamy little novella that’s perfect for when you’ve got a couple of hours set aside to read. I do recommend that you hole yourself up away from interruptions, otherwise you may be tempted to break out some of Dallas’s UFC moves to punish those who try to pull you away from your reading time. Ms. Mayburn earned her 5 stars from me as I know that I will re-read this book in the future. I must now reprioritize my reading list to move her books closer to the top as I enjoyed her writing style and look forward to reading more of her work.

I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

When Dallas Ortega left the world of UFC for the Corporate he thought his girlfriend Tammy would follow. Turned out she wanted the glitz and glamor instead. Pushing on he set up a business focused on merchandise promoting the sport. Not to mention the bevvy of beauties he surrounded himself in a bid to exorcise his ex.

Things were going almost exactly how he wanted. But what he didn't bank on was his prim and proper PA, Amanda Dunham, exposing her kinkier side. A fact that would have missed if it wasn't for a pair of missing nipple clamps and a discrete hidden camera. Suddenly his secret fantasy is fast becoming his reality.

Generally it's a good book. Especially if you're new to the lighter side of BDSM or like romance with the heroines trumping the ex girlfriends. A little on the short side but that can be forgiven because it doesn't throw it all at you in 5 pages.

For me the major downfall was the h/H childlike tantrums. Then again maybe I'm just conditioned for the dark and smooth side of forced seduction, and heroines who aren't afraid to fight what's rightfully there's. Either way it rang a few sweet notes, forced me to control my gag reflex and had me nodding my head in appreciation.

This was another great quick read by Ann Mayburn. I absolutely love her stories and this one is just as good as all the rest. This one features Dallas a retired UFC fighter who has now turned business man. He has had a sexual attraction for his secretary for quite a while. His secretary Amanda doesn't want to be just another in the long string of women that her boss has dated. He has seen to many women walk in and out of his life to make that mistake. But it doesn't keep her from noticing how sexy she is.

Staying late one night at the office she decides to play a little fantasy out while thinking of her boss. The catch, she doesn't know he has the office being recorded on his security system. Once he sees the recording and Amanda calling out his name while pleasing herself, Dallas isn't above a little blackmail to get what he wants.

Ann really knows how to pack a punch (pun intended) full of hotness into her books. Even though this is a short novella you still get the steaminess you've come to expect from her longer books. The only difference, you can finish this one with when you just have a few hours to kill and want a fun sexy read!!

Her Sexy, Rich Dom Boss

Amanda is an assistant for a retired UFC fighter. She is very intimidating to most men, but not her boss. Dallas has noticed and wanted Amanda from the first day that he hired her. It takes a pair diamond encrusted nipple clasps to bring together. This is a quick and steamy read. The author says that Dallas is a Dom. I think if the story was a bit longer, maybe we could see more of the Dom in Dallas. I felt that it only touched upon the Dom aspect, but I still loved the story regardless. I would loved to hear more about his dungeon, and Amanda and Dallas in it. Amanda is strong and feisty. She still wants Dallas, even though she knows all about his man-whore ways. She is the one who has to deal with all the women calling after he breaks if off. When Dallas and Amanda get together, it is hot steamy sex. The chemistry is off the charts. You won't be disappointed if you pick this book. My only complaint would be that I want it longer. Would love to know what happens next for these two. YUMMY!

This book is definitely a hot as hell read. I mean it's highly erotic and off the charts chemistry between these two. Just freaking scorching. I really had to stop and fan myself. Also I did take a breather. Couldn't help it. Like I said it was hot! I loved him, not just because he is Latino or Hispanic whatever you call it. But because he had many facets to person. You get to be surprised. And the woman. She definitely compliments him as his other half. I have no complaints whatsoever. If there is another book from this family. I'd read. Right away.
