Definitely an unexpected treatment of the paranormal
HAUNTING FIRESIDE STORIES is an intriguing collection of five short stories that treats the paranormal – ghosts, werewolves and zombies – in a manner that will almost certainly surprise you. The endings of the stories, rather clever and brilliant inspired twists that will come at you out of left field, range from typically creepy horror all the way to humorous, heartwarming and romantic. Hallowe’en seemed to be a good reason to pay homage to a reading genre that normally holds no appeal for me and I’ll admit that HAUNTING FIRESIDE STORIES fit the bill perfectly.
These five stories are mildly scary, occasionally mildly humorous, and some have interesting plot twists. They feature werewolves, a haunted insane asylum, and ghosts hanging around after death. The best story was probably “Samantha’s Diary” about a dead (yet still very narcissistic) teen girl and the things she learns being a ghost.
