I received this audiobook from High Gravity Productions.

The Legal Limit completely sucked me in. The easiest way I can describe it is that it felt like watching a really good episode of Law & Order: SVU, but from the lawyers’ perspective, and that is absolutely my lane.

Hal and Kristina Nolan felt like a genuine power couple, and I loved watching them work together while navigating the personal complications that came with the case. Their dynamic added just enough personal tension without ever taking away from the mystery itself.

The case was entertaining from start to finish. As someone who has watched an embarrassing amount of Law & Order and SVU, some of the directions the investigation took didn’t surprise me because, honestly, they track with the kinds of cases those shows explore. What did surprise me was where the story ultimately went. I genuinely didn’t see one of the major twists coming, which is always a win for a legal thriller.

I was also pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the third-person POV. After reading so much first person lately, I thought it might create some distance, but it never did. The story kept its momentum throughout, and I found myself completely invested in finding out what really happened.

This was my first time listening to Neil Hellegers, and he was fantastic. The narration fit the tone of the story perfectly and kept me engaged from beginning to end.

I’d recommend it to listeners who enjoy legal thrillers, crime procedurals, competent adult characters, strong relationship dynamics, and anyone who’s ever watched an episode of Law & Order and thought, “I want to know what the lawyers are dealing with.”

I received an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This story begins with Hal and Kristina having achieved financial stability when it all goes to pot when they are attacked by Ransomware. Hal wanted to fight it, but Kristina convinced him to pay it. As a result, their fortune was wiped away. The story then picks up with the firm now just made up of the two of them and doing small cases which does not provide a lot of income. In comes Ariana, Hal's high school girlfriend, that wants his help to defend her sister Paige. Paige has been charged with leaving an accident scene as well as vehicular murder with the death of a cop. Hal wanted to take the case because it would put them in the spotlight once more while Kristina was not in favor.

The two eventually agreed to defend Paige and they then started preparing their defense. The time for the trial appears and they have plotted what they will use to defend her. As the case begins, they begin to learn things about Paige that they were not aware of and as a result needed to relook at how they would defend her. In addition, Hal has been threatened and told to lose the case. The Prosecution now rests its' case and now it is the time when Hal and Kristina will present. Things look bleak at this time and it will soon be time for closing arguments.

To discover what Hal and Kristina learned, who was threatening Hal, what strategy the defense presented as well as learn how it all played out, then you need to read this book.

In Philadelphia’s cutthroat legal world, powerhouse attorneys—and married couple—Hal and Kristina Nolan have built their reputation on impossible courtroom wins. But when their firm is rocked by a series of devastating attacks, they’re pulled into a high-profile murder case that threatens everything they’ve worked for.

As personal and professional lines blur, secrets from the past resurface and enemies lurk closer than they realize. With their careers, marriage, and moral boundaries pushed to the brink, the Nolans must risk it all to uncover the truth—before their empire collapses.

💭 This legal thriller is packed with sharp twists that kept catching me off guard. Just when I thought I knew where the case was headed, new revelations and hidden motives completely changed the game.

The courtroom scenes are tense and well-written, with smart legal maneuvering and high-stakes cross-examinations. What really stood out, though, was the emotional tension—watching Hal and Kristina’s marriage strain under pressure added depth and made the stakes feel personal.

🎧 Audiobook note: Neil Hellegers does an excellent job as narrator, bringing intensity and nuance to every scene. His delivery really elevated the suspense and made the legal drama feel even more immersive.

If you enjoy legal thrillers with smart plotting, complex characters, and plenty of surprises, this one is absolutely worth picking up.

I have long been a fan of Larry A. Winter since I read Burnout, the first book in his 15-book Jessie Black legal thriller series eleven years ago. Wow! It doesn’t seem that long. If you have never read Larry, the Jessie Black series is the place to start. The Hal and Kristina Nolan Legal Thriller Series is a spin-off of that impressive series.

I recently told Larry in a personal email that Jessica Black would be a hard act to follow and that I couldn’t see him creating a better more powerful series than The Jessie Black Series and he hasn’t done that with his latest new series, the Hal and Kristina Legal Thriller Series. What he’s done is create a new series using characters we met in that formidable Jessie Black series. The Hal and Kristina Nolan isn’t a better series, but it’s just as formidable as the Jessie Black series.
If you love legal thrillers where the action happens both in and outside the courtroom, you’ll love all of Larry A. Winter's books, especially these two series. Move over John Grisham, there’s a new sheriff in town!

The Legal Limit by Larry A. Winters
Narrator: Neil Hellegers

The Legal Limit follows Hal and Kristina Nolan, a married couple who have their own law firm. When a woman is accused of knocking down and killing a police officer, Hal and Kristina are asked to represent her in her trial, Pro Bono.
I loved the courtroom drama. Hal was a fun character who had to be put back in line several times by Kristina, which made me laugh. It was quite intense at times, with people trying to stop the trial to the point that life was threatened.
As we near the end of the book, the shocker comes. I don’t think many people would have guessed that twist.

This is the first book I have read by this author, and this series started with a bang.

The narration was spot on, with the emotion and voice tone making it enjoyable to listen to and not distracting at all. Neil has a lovely voice to listen to.

I will definitely be reading the next book in the series when it is released.

The Legal Limit is the first book in a brand-new legal thriller series written by Amazon bestseller Larry A. Winters, author of the Jessie Black Legal Thrillers. It features the husband-and-wife defense attorney team of Kristina and Hal Nolan, who are riding high from their success tackling high-stakes cases in Philadelphia. They’re a formidable force that gets by on Kristina’s legal wizardry, coupled with Hal’s willingness to push rules to the limit, and occasionally beyond. Larry Winters readers will recognize the Nolan’s from their captivating appearances in the Jessie Black series. As always, Winters delivers a terrific legal thriller that features great characters, exciting courtroom action, and surprising twists and turns that will keep you turning pages late into the night. This promises to be a terrific series. I’m looking forward to book two!

This book was interesting. I did enjoy the writing. How fast paced and the good it is. There was also a lot going on, on the sides and I really had to pay attention or I would lose track of what was happening.
The premises was good, and I liked the chaos of the characters. Definitely loved the who done it side and trying to figure out if she did it or if something else was going on.
The amount of secrets that just kept coming out!!! Which honestly was so good, especially when they found out more information that was coming out.
The twists that came and wiggled through everything just kept building the story up.
I gotta say the banter between the characters was a good touch.
That ending had my jaw hitting the floor, in some holy cow kind of way!

Received this audiobook from High Gravity Productions.

This was my first legal thriller and it was very entertaining. It felt just like watching a Law & Order episode from the attorney's POV. I loved Kristina and Hal's dynamic and how they played to their strengths both in the office and in the courtroom. I didn't see the plot twist coming, and neither did the legal team, which made for a fun shock factor. The story was well-written and kept me engaged throughout. Neil Hellegers was an excellent narrator. I'd definitely recommend this series for anyone looking for a fast-paced, legal thriller led by a strong power couple.

Hal and Kristina’s law firm had just won a big case when their business is hacked and in order to keep all their clients information safe they are forced to pay the ransom. Now they are barely paying the bills but have a new case that could put them back on their feet. This book is full of twists and turns, most of them caught me completely off guard. This is definitely a page turner. If you like legal thrillers with a good plot, interesting characters and quite a few surprises this book is for you. Thank you to the author for an advanced readers copy .

Lawyers extraordinaire

A very good read introducing new characters to follow. I’m usually more into action thrillers but this legal who dunnit kept me reading. Started and finished today. Hal and Kristina are forced into bankruptcy by a cyberattack, and closed their vey successful law office. Bankruptcy lost them all their clients and left them struggling to survive. An old highschool flame of Hal’s asks him to defend her sister, charged with killing a police detective. Through aggressive legalese, they help her with acquittal. But is justice served? ENJOY!

I found this plot interesting of choices made and then the consequences.
With a message came up on the office screens "Go to Hell, Hal"
Hal and Kristina, a joint decision was made. They protect the clients.
I enjoyed the narrator of Neil Hellegers to be an excellent choice
I enjoyed the authors.books, and being this was the beginning of a new series
It captured me from the first pages of how this would affect their decision.
I recommend this book as well as the many books that have been written by this author.

Welcome to Philadelphia and a thrilling new series starring Hal and Kristina Nolan. The first book-The Legal Limit begins with a hack of their legal files. The ransom wipes out their funds and they have to regroup and start again. Now they have a chance to take on a client accused of murder. Will the publicity help them? Is she guilty?
The solo narration by Neil Hellegers was phenomenal. He portrayed each and every character perfectly. I highly recommend listening to this audiobook.
Thanks to the author and High Gravity Productions for this ALC.

Loving the Nolan’s

I loved the courtroom drama. An interesting dynamic with Hal going from cocky, arrogant, scheming defense attorney to indignant & outraged when discovering just what type of human being he is defending. I love the way the Nolan’s were able to navigate around their ethical obligation to their client. Kind of reminds me of Michael Connelly’s Mickey Haller!! I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Legal Thriller Tense and Tantalizing

The Nolan Law firm was on top and enjoying the fruits of their labors when a sudden twist of random ware struck and sent them spiraling down to the bottom again. Follow the brave couple as they pull themselves up by their bootstraps in a no-holds-barred murder trial that will determine their future as well as their client's. Twists, turns, humor and grit in and out of the courtroom.

I enjoyed reading this book. The story shows when there is understanding between two how they become one. After having to down size Hal and Kristina takes on a case where a teacher is accused of murder and they believed her based on what they were told. As the story unfolds they realized she is guilty. How do they get her to go prison as they know they will be successful by winning the case. Good story and well written.

Larry Winters has become one of my favorite authors starting with his Jessica Black's series. He never disappoints me with each of his books. His stories have more twist and turns than a pretzel. Also, his characters whether they are the protagonist, are the antagonist, are the victims, and are the assassin they become live people, not cardboards cutouts. Mr. Winters can make the readers feel that they are actually in every scene of the story. LEGAL LIMIT is no acceptance.

Hal & Kristina Nolan have it all, it seems. These two are practically polar opposites.... BUT so much alike in many ways, it's scary. Their banter is sometimes off the charts...but, they've always got each others' back.
I absolutely couldn't put this one down! I'm looking forward to many more in this new series.
I highly recommend it.

good story, nicely plotted

I love legal procedurals that make sense. Our lawyers are a married couple with different gifts. They find themselves in a bad place in their practice as a result of some hackers who ransomed their legal files. They have a nice balance of ethics, good judgement and risk taking, i look forward to their next adventure.

After going from top earners in the legal field to the bottom of the barrel, this couple has one chance at climbing back to the top. Will they risk it? This book takes you from one theory to another as to who killed the cop. By the end of the book, you wonder what else can be packed into this nail-biting legal thriller.

A legal procedural with a "power couple," a term that makes even them chuckle. A twisty plot. An ex girlfriend. A pro bono client. Threats. More twists. And my favorite part, the silly banter. I love it!

I was gifted an Audible version of this book from the author. I agree, Neil Hellegers has the perfect voice for Hal. And his other voices are equally believable. 5 stars for him as well.

I enjoyed this novel. The characters, motivations, and timeline is easy to follow and understandable. Making a mystery crew as clear as mud as a former English teacher used to tell me, made this novel highly enjoyable for the summer and one which I will follow the characters of the series as they continue solving crimes.

Hal and Kristina Nolan have appeared for the defense in courtrooms in other Larry A Winters novels, but now they have their own series. With humor, wit and an uncanny knowledge of the law, together they fight to prove the innocence of their clients.
