Full disclosure: I didn’t know what a Baofeng radio was before I bought this book and I do not own a Baofeng. However, I recently bought a pair of walkie-talkies for emergencies and so this book piqued my interest. I got this book to learn more about this reasonably-priced alternative type of radio before making a purchase.
Apparently, the Baofeng is no mere walkie-talkie—it is the Swiss army knife of radios, so powerful and small that is used by militaries all over the world. If you didn’t already know it, you will need a license in the United States to transmit anything on a Baofeng radio—you can legally only listen on a Baofeng without the proper license. Also, there are other brands of this type of radio out there besides the ‘Baofeng,’ though it sounds like the Baofeng was the first.
This book begins with a very clear set of instructions and diagrams for using the Baofeng, which is a remarkably complex radio. Beyond those instructions are descriptions of how to perform scans and use the radio’s memory. The book also includes lists of popular frequencies that people use (e.g., NOAA weather in the U.S.A.) as well as lists of accessories and troubleshooting tips.
Among the other sections that I found to be most valuable given my reasons for reading it was a chapter on making a communications plan with other Baofeng users, as the radio can be used in what is called a ‘mesh’ network. Another section that I think makes this book worth a buy is the part on signal improvement, which details what settings to change on a Baofeng to improve signal quality depending on the environment (e.g., city with tall buildings, open fields in the countryside, large areas of open water, etc.).
Other sections expose the author(s) extensive military and/or emergency medical experience with discussions of communications security and proper communication protocols. Finally, the book discusses the legal considerations of using a professional radio such as a Baofeng and the types of radio licenses available in the United States for its use.
All in all, given my reasons for buying this book, I am a thoroughly satisfied customer. After reading it, I do plan to get a Baofeng radio at some point in the future.

Protect your family
Although this book is short it is sweet. It's all that you need to know about owning a Baofeng radio. I highly recommend this to anyone who is a prepper survivalist or May be in an area where you will have an emergency and need to protect your family.

There are a few errors with punctuation, but the book is otherwise well written and loaded with information. It covers everything from choosing the right model to privacy, range and other concerns.
