Just as wonderful as the previous ☺️
Related alot to Kamod in some respects, really felt for him :( His animal companions warmed my heart.. you could really feel the bond between them.
This one has a quieter vibe than the other book but also more emotionally intense.
I could feel the energy clearly as if I was there or were the characters themselves.
This book has laughs, anger moments, sad ones, and frustration. It reminds me of living adult life and it's many ups and downs.
Sometimes we feel as if we are drowning from everything we have to deal with and not sure if we'll ever break the surface.
Won't spoil it but I love how the book talked about happiness and contentment.
Also want a turn ar those hot springs, they sounded amazing ❤️.
Would highly recommend this one, but suggest reading Dragon Wagon Refuge first.

Kamod has been a djinn for over 500 years granting wishes for those who often don’t even use their wishes for good. He wants so much more out of life and can only be freed if he finds true happiness. His friends help him along his journey!
This was so comforting and sweet. I absolutely loved Kamod’s calming character and his sweet furry friends. Cozy fantasies are so amazing to curl up with and read when the temperatures drop and this was such a fun one!

These books are so cute and fun! They’re short but have a colorful cast of characters. I would definitely read more in this world.

I got an ARC for this book in exchange for an honest review.
The TLDR: Huge recommendation for those who are looking to curl up with a warm drink and enjoy a soft story with magic and cozy creatures. Although short, it captures the main character Kamod’s drive and character development with a charm that permeates every page.
This book is exactly what it wants to be: a cozy, low-intensity story about finding oneself and understanding the importance of every moment, all contained within a fantasy world that is light and cheery without being overbearingly sweet. Kamod is an exceptional main character, with a wonderful development across the story that feels relatively natural. The surrounding cast of side characters help to steer the story while “staying in their lane”. In fact, the story almost feels episodic at moments, with a new cast of side characters encouraging a short arc as the story progresses. While normally this would get a little stale, it works perfectly with how short the story is. Another fantastic aspect to this book was the sense of stakes. Lighthearted works like this can struggle with having actual danger or costs to failure, but the conditions that are imposed on Kamod’s djinn powers, and how that relates to the story, keeps the tension up without breaking that cozier vibe.
I think that the sole complaint I have is that it was so short. I would have loved to flesh out Kamod’s development over the course of a few more chapters or story arcs, but that could solely be because of how wonderful that character development was. Additionally, and this is geared towards those who are more traditional fantasy fans like myself, this book is built with the flavor of fantasy as a principle focus rather than getting into the grittier details of how things function or what things do. It’s a necessity for a story that aims to be a gentler read, but the lack of density could turn off people who were underlining the “fantasy” aspect of “cozy fantasy novel”. Lastly, although exceeding minor and probably a personal preference, there were some more modern references that felt disjointed in the context of a fantasy novel. None of my issues with the book drop it a full star, so I'm happy giving this book all 5.

This was my first cozy fantasy, not because I have had something against the genre, I just did not think about it, so maybe this book being the first in a new type of subgenre for me made this book feel very fresh. That is how the book felt for me. Fresh and unique.
The premise is really interesting: A djinn trying desperately to break free from the magic that binds him, forcing him to make wishes come true for wishers. Wishes that often end in tragedy. So Kamod, the Djinn, wants desperately to live a normal, happy life, not being forced by magic to doom others with wishes that turn awry. That premise is philosophical, and this book ponders on the nature of happiness without becoming boring. It is deep and entertaining at the same time. Not entertaining in a "haha this is so hillarious" way, but more like a series of good conversations with friends in a cozy place as that is the feeling conversations about happiness in this book feels like to me.
Every character has a role in this book, and each character is distinct and important. The animals as well, the cat on the cover among them.
The world is not explained much, and I got surprized by all the different creatures in this book and how normal they seem in this world. As an avid world building author myself I could have wished for some more world building and explanations, but on the other hand I think that could have ruined the pacing and perhaps even the cozy, whimsical and yet deep mood of the story. This tale isn't epic fantasy like I write, with hundreds of names, places and characters, but a short but well told story about a djinn seeking to break his bonds and reflecting about happiness, unhappiness and on the effects of wishes.
The writing itself feels warm and cozy, and as a non native English speaker I really like this writing style. I will definitely buy more books from this author, and check out more cozy fantasy books. I highly recommend this book!

On the whole, Whiskers and Wishes does an excellent job evoking a cozy feeling throughout Kamod's adventures. Its loving descriptions of Kamod's personal world - his wagon, his wish, and his companions - and the greater world surrounding him are some of the highlights of the book. Larune is a living, dynamic world, and I enjoyed being able to get lost in it with Kamod.
Plot-wise, the book has a tendency to skip along the surface of the various encounters and events Kamod faces, introducing and resolving them within a few pages of each other, without providing much depth at any point. This in some ways accentuates the coziness of the book, as it reassures the reader that, no matter how dark the situation, it will resolve in Kamod's favour. However, I also found it left the book a bit wanting through the lack of tension and development.
Still, Whiskers and Wishes is a sweet book and a perfect read for anyone wishing they too could curl up with a cup of tea and contented cat.

This was such a cute cozy tale, which after being ill this last few days did a great job of cheering me up and lifting my spirits. The surprise twist at the end was utterly charming making me smile.

Legend claims that if a truly content person was found to be happy after their three wishes were granted, the bound djinn would be set free. But can Kamod find a truly unselfish person to free him so he can pursue his wish to help others not using magic....
I simply loved Kamod the djinn with a heart who unlike most stories of his kind is not a trickster but had a genuine desire to help people. I really felt for him at times when he avoids getting close to anyone for fear of him being discovered and used for his magic, which never ends well. In his journey to be free he is placed on a path to self discovery and finds the true meaning of friendship with an adorable yak and cat companions..
Although not very long this story is remarkably well written and detailed. And if you're like me you could probably read this in a couple of hours. I'll definitely check out more by this author as the cozy vibes gave me all the fuzzy feels which is just perfect for this time of year. Totally recommend 😁

Cute, fluffy fantasy.
3rd person pov, Blisswile Ilses, Larune. HEA, no spice, maybe mild triggers. Kamod, a djinn is very frustrating by being forced to fulfill 3 wishes to every person who rubs his tea kettle. He has heard a rumor about how to free himself, but it requires a person who is perfectly happy after they get their 3 wishes, and remains that way. He travels around in an effort to not become magically bound to yet another person for 3 wishes. It was a shallow, brief story that felt a little more like an essay and less like a book. It was short, which did not help. And while we got to know Kamod somewhat, the rest of the characters and the world at large remained mostly unknown. There was a little action, and mostly it felt a bit maudlin, almost reminiscing. Unfortunately it was not exactly what I was looking for, and while it was perfectly fine for what it was, I cannot give it more stars because it just felt like less.

The wishes granted by a djinn always turn out badly in the end. Legend says if a wisher achieves true happiness the djinn will be freed from service but that has never happened. Whiskers and Wishes philosophizes about the meaning of happiness but it never gets bogged down in it. We hear about wishes that went poorly in the past and explore the world with him. He avoids getting close to anyone because of past traumas but is accompanied by a surprisingly charming yak creature and a very good kitty.

Kamod, a djinn bound to a magical lamp, longs for freedom not just for himself but also to stop witnessing humans ruin their lives through their reckless wishes. We get to follow him on his journey while exploring what it means and takes to be to be happy and content in life. I would have loved this as a full length book with some more depth to the story instead of a novella. It is still a nice, short, enjoyable read. And there's a cat!

Adorable, fun, interesting!
I cannot express how lovely a time it was reading this. Every character is given attention. The main character, Kamod, carries a deep wound born from centuries of disappointment. His inner hopes, dreams, and emotions are well written and as the reader you hope he will achieve his own dreams. This is a fantastic story that is as refreshing as it is truly a good story.

Really sweet book!
I love cozy reads, and this book is a delight. It gets into the wishes of having what you haven’t worked for and don’t appreciate, and the joys of achieving your dreams through your own work. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Definitely recommend.

If I could give 4.5 stars I would have.
What an uplifting short cosy fantasy!
Its main character is a Genie, or Djinn. He finds friendship and support in lots of ways. His animal friends are adorable.
I really felt like I could picture all of the scenes. His caravan especially. Really well written.
Beautiful story. I may even read it again!

Great Story
I loved the world the author created and the various animals it has in it. This is a story that morals and hope as well as a Happy ending. I really liked the main character and the friends he Mets along the way in his search.

It's sweet and a map. I have a soft spot for a map.
And cats.
This really is one of those friends we made along the way stories, so read it when you're on the mood for a fantasy setting read that feels like a cup of cardamom coffee or cinnamon cocoa.

Very sweet. A djinn wrestles with fulfilling wishes that end badly. Short but cute and cozy, with fun characters and good dialogue and narration.

I’ll be recommending this to students who say they want to get back into reading. This author really understands the genre and her audience. All my stress just melted away while I was reading this.
