Book 6 of this action-packed new LitRPG Apocalypse Series from Valerios. Grab your copy today!
Join Jack the Brawler as he pummels everything that gets in his way on his road to mastery and power. It's perfect for fans of Primal Hunter, Defiance of the Fall, and lovers of all things Progression Fantasy and LitRPG.
Valerios enjoys letters and numbers. One day, combining them crossed his mind, and now he spends most of his time placing one after the other until something pleasant appears.
Besides transforming words into worlds, Valerios also enjoys moving figurines over chess boards, spending quality time with quality people, and stubbornly trying to convince machines that cats are not, in fact, dogs.
This books brings the series to a worthy and satisfying end.
The action is exciting and campy. The characters continue their journeys to logical conclusions. The plot is over-the-top and dramatic. It's exactly where this series has always been leading and it's a ton of fun.
The earlier parts of the book (before the lead-up to the ending) are a bit more rushed than the previous books, in order to leave space for the ending, which is a reasonable trade off. It might also have been reasonable to split them into two books. I'm not particularly bothered, but I imagine this will be a common complaint.
Ultimately, I was pretty happy with this whole series, and especially this ending.
This book was the terrible conclusion to a series that started off on a high note. Originally I was very interested in this because it was a LitRPG that allowed the MC to be overpowered. However, the side kick is one of the worst additions to a book series. This book in particular was filled with some of the stupidest and most immature humor. Space monsters saying "cringe", for instance. The final battle was ridiculous, and I feel like the author must have run out of ideas a while ago. If all you care about it an OP MC, this series will be great for you. If you have any desire to read a series with something more than that, I highly recommend skipping.
Authors, please stop putting stupid side kicks in just because it has worked in a couple of popular book series. The Brocode as a super power? Everyone calling each other bro? Flashing to "NPCs" pov just to say how cool the MC is? Terrible.
A good conclusion, the ending was a bit rushed but overall a great journey. One of those books which handle both cultivation and litRPG really well with emphasis on both.
For a book about a guy punching things this series goes into a lot of progression really well and there's really great action!
I didn't realise that this was the last book in this series while reading it, and honestly, that fact alone probably saved it from a lower review score... but more on that later. First, I want to discuss what I like about this book (and the series as a whole).
By and large, this was a satisfying conclusion to an enjoyable series. Considering the scope and size of this series, and the progression of similar series in this genre, it is actually an achievement in itself that it does have an ending at all, especially so early on. I mentioned in earlier reviews how I appreciated that this series took the time to pay off promises early, and as a result, I don't think this series has ever had a chance to stagnate. It has always been relentlessly moving forward, and I love that about this series.
The ending is also suitably epic, fitting what has come before. It remains true to the writing style and expectations set by this series, and as a result, delivers a satisfying conclusion that nicely ties up the story. It's one of the better endings for a series I have read in a long while, and sticking the landing like this elevates the entire series overall.
That being said, there were issues with this book. The biggest one for this reader was the amount of time the story spent on what felt like another side-quest/dungeon run. While the monster world wasn't actually a dungeon, it was a self-contained environment where it felt like the only real impact on the larger story was the outcome of the dungeon run itself. It separates the protagonists from the important side characters, meaning that their story stalls while the protagonists embark on a new journey on their own.
It's the same problem as most long-running dungeon storylines in books like this, as they feel like little more than filler material. If I had known that this was the last book going into it, this would have undoubtedly impacted my enjoyment of this book, as rather than dealing with the material that should be wrapping up this series, we are instead spending time introducing new elements that ultimately feel irrelevant to the overarching story as a whole other than for it allowing Jack and Brock to progress.
The result of devoting so much time to this storyline meant that the actual ending to the series felt rushed. So much has to happen between the time the protagonists exit the monster world to the climactic battle that it almost goes by too quickly. In fact, it is likely a more significant criticism of this book as a whole. It's strange to say it as someone who enjoys efficiency in storytelling, but taking Jack from his place at the end of book five to where he needed to be to fight in the climactic battle at the end of book six was fast paced even for this series that has always progressed Jack at break neck speed. The result of this rushed feeling is that several elements of the story felt underdeveloped, epiphanies seemed to come out of nowhere, and there was not enough time to properly fulfil promises made earlier in the series.
Finally, we have my most significant issue in this series, and that is the relationships. Outside of Jack and Brock, this series has struggled massively with the relationships it establishes. It only devotes enough time to secondary characters and their relationships with the protagonists to give the story what it needs to move forward, and then it forgets about them entirely. Whehter it's deep friendships that go nowhere, love interests that appear long enough for the story to claim a relationship exists then forget about those characters almost entirely, or mentorships that come into existence to start the protagonists on their next path of advancement and then never get explored again; this is easily the biggest weakpoint of this series. There were so many moments at the end of this book where vital events in the story would have had so much more impact if these characters and relationships had not been so underdeveloped, and the story would have been better for it.
Overall, though, I can't complain too much about what I got. This is a story that delivered on many of its promises, didn't overstay its welcome, and concluded with a solid ending that makes me very likely to re-read this series in a couple of years. That might seem like small praise, but there are so many series that flub the ending so much that I lose all interest in ever reading it again, that this is a much rarer phenomenon than you might think.
So I think that this book just about scrapes its way into 4 stars, and I think that's a good grade for the series as a whole. It has been a bit of a rocky journey, but the highs are genuinely awesome and outweigh the lows. I am looking forward to picking up the next series by this author to see what he has for us next.
Wonderful. This is one of the best and only proper endings to a cultivation story I’ve read yet.
From start to finish, this book ties everything from the previous books together. By the end every single moment from book 1 through 6 the reason behind small moments and big culminates into a grand fight between good and evil.
The ending alone makes it my favorite book I’ve read in this genre.
Looks like I was worried for nothing; I was afraid the author would write a book about Jack that didn't mention his almost PHD. Let me spoil that for you right now!!
An interesting way to end the book. The first half felt like a brand new adventure which is weird considering I went in knowing this was the last book. It all wrapped up nicely.
In a Genre that isn't known for having heavy hitters in story telling this one is a Dud. If you want an annoying Main Character with the maturity of a High School Moron and a Gorilla servicing a space monster this is the Book for you.
The Main Character is extremely unlikable, but the Villains are even worse so you're rooting for a 3rd party to off them all
It's hard to objectively taste this series with any seriousness, because, other than maybe the very beginning, this whole series has been like a Saturday morning cartoon than anything resembling serious literature. There's almost zero depth, the MC has a raging case of Gary Sue with zero flaws etc, and somehow it all worked well enough for me to finish the whole series. so, yeah, take that for what you will.
I typically never leave reviews, but I feel compelled to after reading what I believe is the right way to do a Litrpg. After all too many never ending series where it feels like little happens, this series is constant action from start to finish. The characters are developed, the challenge level is perfect, and the scale never stops growing. I am very glad I stumbled upon this series and I hope many more will do so.
It’s bittersweet to complete a beloved series. The author definitely could have drug it out indefinitely, and I’d have enjoyed more books, but ultimately I’m most thankful for an ending / closure. Too many series don’t ever end and leave you hanging.
GREAT series, everyone should read this. I hope the author spins up some new worlds for us to explore.
From the beginning, you find the fate of life unpredictable and it doubly so when Jack Rust is introduced. You feel the triumphs, the pain and achieving progress as the story goes. But the wide characters are the heroes in helping to weave this tale. Truly an enjoyable series that had me rooting for Jack till the end.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable read start to finish - I read about 30 or so of these books a year from various lit RPG authors and this is one series I've anticipated the release of each booked very much. Do yourself a favor - if you enjoy litrpg books give this series a try!
What can I say except wow. I'm going to miss Brock and Jack but what an ending. The author could have probably made 15 books like others but instead gave us a well written series in record time (just like Jack and Brock!). Cheers to this "S" ranked officer!!!
This series would definitely be in my top 10. It had the ruthlessness and desperation of fights like Defiance of the Fall, to the overpoweredness of Primal Hunter. This was a great series in and of itself but the author left the ending in such a way that he could always revisit the adventures of Jack Rust!
One twist after another until the very end. A lot of series build up to the climax and then kind *poof*. The ending is lackluster and rushed and the reader is left wanting more. Not so here. It was a wild ride up until the very last chapter. Great conclusion to the series and I will be following the author to see what other great works he cooks up
This is an outstanding series, and I truly hope other authors take note of how to craft an epic story without getting bogged down in unnecessary details or losing direction midway through. Rather than meandering through a dozen books with no clear path, this series maintains a fantastic pace while still delivering a grand sense of scale and wonder throughout.
Perfect book series. The characters, the power system, the plot, everything is perfect. I don’t know if there are any plot holes, but from my experience, the ending was as good as the whole series.
This read like a great television series that learned it wasn’t renewed for another season: rapidly tying up lose ends and creating some closure. It wasn’t bad, I just felt it didn’t do justice to a special series.
I really enjoyed this series it's sad that it ended I would have gladly continued reading I'm really surprised how it ended with a multverse in play it could habe easily continued
Wasn’t sure how Jack would manage to make it to the end of his journey in this book, but Valerios did a good job making it happen. I’ve enjoyed this series immensely and liked the ending. Would recommend.
I am surprised how well this book ended the series. Although some of the books in the series over stretched descriptions, This one was really fun to read, making a great way to finish the series.
A nice ending to a pretty good series. Jack was an old school guy who put family out country a head of his self. A real work alcoholic who told pain and achieve his goals in self improvement. So many Thanks to the author!!
I enjoyed the fast paced conclusion to this story. It includes several twists and new characters as well as a resolution to many questions. I look forward to reading additional books by this author! Well done!
Super fun and enjoyable series. Definitely a little bit corny but that’s part of what makes it so good. Loved all the adventures and character/ world building. 10/10 series in my opinion, it would make a great anime or tv show down the road.
Have now read the full series. At times wishing the books could be written faster than I was reading them. Really enjoyed being immersed in Jack and Brocks universe and their adventures.
