Zoe and several other LIGHT warriors are trapped in a mansion surrounded by hostile humans and dark creatures. The Alliance is fighting for survival and the Cs don’t want to get involved, leaving our brave princess in serious danger! The legendary C warrior Gray is their only hope for escape. Gray, however, seems more interested in drawing out Zoe’s hidden gifts. Gray helped train Risk Xie, Calvin Rainland, and the other members of dC-3, but can he bring out Zoe’s potential before the dark brings its might to bear on the mansion?
Meanwhile, Bill is heading for the Deep Dark, looking for answers to the location of C-3. He finds the Resistance is smashed, licking its wounds in the shadows and no one has even seen the Drivers for weeks (months? ‘awhile’ is too vague), leaving Bill to start his quest alone. Can a retired Frost Intelligence agent resurrect the LIGHT enough to succeed in his mission?
Falling Ashes is another great addition to the C3 Saga and like the former book, Princess of Ashes its once again a a decent read. It is short, but when you're only paying a dollar for it, its rather worth it. Princess of Ashes left us on a cliffhanger of sorts and this book jumps right into the action. Zoe's transformation from selfish princess to servant continues in this book and with it helps the reader to look at and understand different aspects of people spiritual journey. After all, it is sometimes hard to see someone who wanted nothing from the Lord suddenly change and we sometimes don't think about the reactions we give people in these sort of situations.
There were points where I felt a little confused and I think I should have read the the third book of the main series before reading this book. (This is coming from a reader who has read everything else of the C3 universe). These references appear when the story deal with the sections which deal with characters in the main series.
One of the faults I had with the book, was that it suddenly shifted to Bill. The section was good and interesting read and I liked the story. It was just that the shift seemed too dramatic. Honestly I wanted another half with Zoe, but instead there was this section with Bill with little reference to the Zoe. I think it just felt jarring too me because the series title itself points at her as the main character and to have so much the book without her seemed a little odd.
I liked this section, I want to stress that and I moved through it rather quick. It was just a little jarring, and I almost think it could have been expanded into its own short story (rather than being included in this novel).
It also appears which each new book coming out, I think the author gets better. I would definitely recommended that others read this series alongside the main series.
