When Hecate hears the cries of a captured Persephone, she finds herself drawn once again into Olympian schemes. Tasked with freeing the spring goddess, Hecate travels to to the Underworld with the entrancing and beautiful Hermes, who awakens an attraction in Hecate she never believed she could feel. But when Hermes betrays her, can he earn her forgiveness and her heart?
Claiming Magic is a spicy novelette instalove romance between Hermes and Hecate. It is a prequel to The New Olympus series, though it can be read at any point in the series.
This *should* have been my thing, but it fell pretty flat for me.
The prose could use some work, or at least another edit. I felt like I was being told most things, but prefer to be shown. The pacing was... fast and then somehow faster. And I struggled to keep up with the plot (it felt like it was spattered in in a rush just to get to the steam). Speaking of the steam - it might've been okay if it weren't for typos and other details that pulled me out ()
I'd like to hope that maybe I just have an older copy that hasn't been updated, or that this isn't a reflection of the author's capabilities, and I might read another piece in future to confirm, but this one doesn't have me running for the rest of the series for sure.
I’ve been wanting to get through more of my shorter reads. They break up the endlessness of all the other books I’ve been reading.
This was a good one. Inspired by Greek mythology, it’s a story of Hecate and Hermes. It’s nice to see gods and goddesses as devoted lovers instead of shifty flings. The nature of gods being notorious is mentioned but with these two it’s seemed like instant love, which was cute.
I never thought I’d say this but even though it was a short story, I felt like it didn’t need the whole sex scene at the end. If it had ended with him finding her and groveling and them choosing each other, I would’ve still found this enjoyable.

This is such a short novella, but it is packed with so much goodness. Hermes is a new young god, and unlike how we have known him in the other books in The New Olympus Series. Hecate is new to the feelings he rises in her so quickly and I was surprised to see she didn't shy from them. There is a touch of betrayal, but it is resolved quickly and that spicy outdoors scene, wow! It is definitely a great lead into Strife's Apple, the first book in the series. Loved being in this world again.
I love Greek mythology so this was a great book. I’ve never read the series but it was great to see Hermes as a young new god. The relationship between Hecate and Hermes was great as well. I’m excited to read this series!
This is an interesting read. I love Greek mythology so this was right up my alley. I can’t wait to see what the rest of this series is about. There is spice and it is a short read so definitely hoping the rest of the series has more in the books.
