Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Trope: OTT hero with a br33ding schmink
Angst: 😱😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥

Indi Marie continues to give us the completely over-the-top heroes we love, just in a different setting ❤️. The story is both angsty and fast-paced. I love single-mom books when the hero falls in love with the kiddo, too, and Indi didn't disappoint. Fans of her previous books will love the cameos as well.

This was a great book. It's about a woman (Savannah) and her daughter (Kenzie) running from Savannahs abusive husband. She runs to a town called Magnolia Falls and she does everything she can to stay under the radar. The closest person she has to a friend is an older woman named Kate. Kate watches Kenzie while Savannah works and has 2 sons, Mason and Declan.

Declan has had his heart broken badly by his ex and has cut out almost everyone in his life. He works til he's bone tires and then goes home to sleep, rinse and repeat. He also swears off any sort of romantic relationship. Then he sees Savannah while she's working and... Well you're going to have to read it to find out the rest.

This was a great book. I really liked how the 2 main characters overcame everything that was thrown at them, and it was a lot! I loved the relationship between Declan and Kenzie. He really loved that little girl. Declan definitely has a way about getting what he wants 😉.

Great job Indi Marie! Can't wait for the next one!

Quick read - OTT, obsessed, possessive LUMBERJACK hero with a br33ding kink... what's not to love!?

Triggers of SA, DA & PA.

Strong fmc, whose been through so much - Savannah ran from her abusive ex that was much older than her, a cop (that completely abused his badge) and groomed her from a young age. She was vulnerable as she spent time in the foster system and was searching for somewhere to belong. She ran when she had her baby, as the ex's abuse was escalating and she was fearful of not only her life, but that of her child's.

She runs to a very remote mountain town and meets the mmc's mother (who incidentally becomes her landlady and babysitter for her daughter) and who tries desperately to set her up with her son (helllllo Lumberjack 🥵) Declan (mmc), has his own trauma and has become a hermit pretty much. His mother plays matchmaker and he falls in love with not only our fmc but her daughter as well.

Drama ensues when the very unstable ex tracks Savannah down and is furious that she's with someone else. Declan becomes more and more possessive and obsessed and our fmc has her HEA with our very very OTT lumberjack

Great to see a repeat appearance of Marcello from a previous book, who helps Declan achieve justice for Savannah - he's insane but we love him! That nitrogen capsule and wood chipper scene... very inventive!

All side characters are great, I will read the next one which is our fmc's bff and our mmc's brother.... which should be interesting as she's mad and he's the (sometimes) morally grey town sheriff.

better at 35%

Wayyy too much backstory. And then, for the act only make a two minute appearance in the future I feel like the author spent way too much painting the picture rather than the actual story.

Also way too much in her monologue I started skimming the long paragraphs

Too long. I love this author and everything I love is present in this book sadly what is also present is about 200 extra pages. From the beginning the author spent a prologue and four chapters setting up the book. It was unnecessary and extremely repetitive. From here it did get a bit better, but the lack of editing was apparent. There was no value add in the length of this book with a lot of repetitive paragraphs. I wanted to take a red pen to several sections and just X them out it would instantly make this book better. This author is still developing and growing so I truly believe this was just a misstep along the way and one that is easily fixable if she circles back.

P.s. the timeline in this book made no sense and simply didn’t work. Ex. She’s been there a year but never been through a winter there. Timeline errors are a major pet peeve of mine, so all the inconsistencies drove me crazy.

1,5 stars. Not to be dramatic, but that might've been one of the worst books I've ever read. Honestly, how in the world did the author manage to butcher a single parent book like that??? Reading this book was like watching a car crash, unable to look away, with eyes wide open and your jaw dropped. Not only was the writing really bad and repetitive. Like, I bet if that book was run through a program that could detect repetitions it would be around a 100 pages long, if that. The characters themselves weren't better either and everything was so dramatic and just WEIRD. Like, sure, Savannah was in a really bad situation and I would be devastated and scared too, but her actions always felt like she was acting. Everything felt fake and overdone. There was no nuance and changes happened SO FAST. Like, Declan hated the thought of women and then he saw Savannah once and claimed her for himself, thinking about marrying and impregnating her ... before he's even had a real conversation with her. Also honestly, why would you write a love interest like that for a woman that just got away from a really abusive relationship. Sure, Declan wants to protect Savannah and he always tells her like he'll do anything for her and that her voice and her choices matter, only that .... not really? Like, I like a breeding kink just as much as the next girl, but Savannah is literally traumatized and is scared of how she's going to survive and how she's gonna provide for her daughter, but then there's Declan who's single minded and is thinking about her carrying his child and refusing to use any birth control, despite Savannah talking about her insecurities and how she's not sure whether she wants any more children??? And the way he talks about he's never gonna allow her to walk away from him? Don't get me wrong, I'm very familiar with the alphahole kinda guy and don't usually shy away from that trope, bu Declan is doing it all wrong and Istg, if this were not a work of fiction, he'd be the bad guy and it was so freaking obvious while reading, I couldn't enjoy any of it. Like, paired with the bad writing, I was just overwhelmed in the worst way, because wth. And again, I'm a dark romance reader, so I know how bad some MMCs can be, but Declan was just .... bad. In a negative and non-sexy way.

Unhinged closed off wounded MMC
Broken, single mom barely making it FMC

Unlikely for them to come together but the stalking was over the top and she was obvious! She gives into him a little too fast for me but I still loved it. It is smutty for sure.

I'm rating higher than I initially wanted to because I'm trying to give it some grace but I'm a bit... suspicious on this. I'll give my review before saying why, but even without my suspicions I rate this one no more than 3 stars.

the good: br33ding k1nk is absolutely phenomenal. I like how good he is with her daughter
the bad: dialogue is so clunky, it reads a bit like Wattpad and I don't necessarily mean that as an insult I mean that it doesn't sound even remotely rooted in reality. no one talks like that. using full proper words in internal thoughts makes sense but sometimes they say things without using the shortcuts people use in modern English, especially for a rural area. like they use Proper English.
example I made up it's not actually in the book:
"I'm so happy you decided to come over tonight! I made snacks for the game, but you'll have to forgive my brother, he's still a bit butthurt from last week."
that's something a real life person would say. now lemme translate how someone might've said it in the book...

"I am so happy you decided to come to my house tonight! I have made refreshments and prepared the livingroom for the sports game tonight. unfortunately, you will have to forgive my brother as he is still feeling the lingering resentment from last week's embarrassing moment that you had witnessed."
maybe a bit dramatic but that's how it read to me somehow. just felt... I dunno, robotic?

there was also like a lot of insane thought processes that had me ? ? ? like people just ignore so much shit. I understand some of the choices made later on in the book but the depth of obsession that went completely disregarded and even GLORIFIED was so so strange.

plus: I agree, the ex-gf is BAD bad. but there was a loooot of... misogyny? like the cheating and all that is bad, but throwing that on top of stripper, plastic surgery, bottle blonde, absent mother, etc etc etc... it really didn't feel like it was represented in a remotely healthy way. it doesn't just make it okay to turn around later and say "I don't slut shame" like... it's not doing any favors just stacking stereotype on top of stereotype on top of stereotype on top of... etc. gave me the ick.

now, the ugly:
this is ENTIRELY conjecture, it was just something that entered my brain and weirded me out a bit but I'm not an expert but like things started kind of... adding up.

the way some things are so over the top, the way some are swept under the rug, the sometimes unrealistic soulless dialogue...

was some of this written with AI..?

like I noticed how robotic the dialogue was sometimes early on, but then they mentioned the name I see in AI stories allllll the time... Silas.

now this is an actual name, and I ain't hating on anyone who actually has this name, however I see it a LOT in AI generated stories.
sometimes I play AI driven rpg-text games when I'm bored, and sometimes the AI generates a character named Silas. scratch that, not sometimes but ALL THE TIME. it keeps re-generating and it's actually quite hard to make it stop. I'm not the only one who's experienced this. also the last name Blackwood but that's not the focal point here.
this by itself doesn't mean it's AI, obviously, I'm not a fool but I'm not an expert, which is why I'm saying to anyone that reads this: TAKE WITH A GRAIN OF SALT OR RESEARCH YOURSELF.

I don't like AI novels. I play the AI game sometimes, sure, but I'm not shelling out money to be given something that wasn't even made by an actual person.

I took two small excerpts from the book in the same chapter as when the name Silas appears, around 300 words each, and put them into an AI detector. one excerpt showed 0% AI, while one showed 39% AI...

I don't like that.
I don't know if it means some of it is AI, or if none of it is, but I'm a bit unsettled and unfortunately I really REALLY wanted to dock points but for now until more info is known, I rate as if its not AI. I'm giving grace, I hope it's not.

A lumber jack that’s crazy possessive, think’s you’re the best thing he’s ever seen, dotes on you and your daughter, and wants to give you the world? That would be Declan and all that plus a grumpy charm, willingness to let a little girl make him a princess, and zero problems taking a hand or two off of anyone who touches what’s his, is what you get in this brilliant read! It’s got kinks, it’s got heart, it has one of the strongest women ever that just needs a little safety to pick up her broken pieces, and by the time you’re done it’s got you craving a Declan of your own to be that wrapped up in you.
I love how this read handles the pasts of two people who have been used and torn apart and let’s them come out on the other side stronger, kinder, and although more cautious, even better at recognizing when someone is worth everything. It has it’s dark moments, it has it’s laugh out loud moments, and the possessiveness is as hot as it is suffocating, but the way Declan constantly makes sure Savannah knows he loves her, that everything is at her pace, and the effort he puts in to showing Kenzi that she’s his, absolutely heart melting and giving you an ending that feels like a beginning, and it’s absolutely perfect.

I like the concept of this book because duh who woodn’t want a love story about a lumberjack! The book has a good story, however there was a bit of repetitiveness. The back stories of the FMC and MMC could have been a little shorter and finished up in the prologue or with in the first chapter, even though I know Indi was telling from both perspectives and I get it, it still seemed a little too drawn out. With the repetitiveness at times when I was reading I felt I was reading some of the same parts again and again and almost felt I went backwards in the book. We got the gist of both of their pasts even though they were hung up on it it really didn’t full need to be said again, it could have just stopped with “my ex never did anything like this for me or my ex never would have loved me like this” (Instances like that with out spoilers) I understand that the mmc is morally grey and has a breeding kink but some of the things that he said were off putting to me and some of them were also repeated multiple times. I like that we had some of past book characters in and mentioned in this one. I do love this author as I have read her other books as well and am ready to read what she has coming next!

This book delivers a dark, steamy, and emotional small-town romance filled with drama and suspense. The male main character (MMC) is a classic Just Passed Perfect (JPP) and undeniably Over-the-Top (OTT) when it comes to protecting and loving the female lead. Their dynamic is intense and heartwarming, as he helps her heal from a traumatic past and fully accepts her, creating a truly dreamy love story.
The pace is fast, the chemistry undeniable, and the emotional stakes high. This story doesn’t shy away from tough topics, so readers are encouraged to check trigger warnings before diving in. If you enjoy protective heroes, resilient heroines, and small towns with secrets, this book is highly recommended.
Personal Take:
After thoroughly enjoying Book 2 in this series, I didn’t hesitate to dive into this one—and it didn’t disappoint. Just like its successor, this story features a swoon-worthy MMC who will move heaven and earth to protect and cherish the FMC. While it has some darker elements, the emotional depth and steamy romance make it a compelling read. I loved the balance between drama, healing, and heat.
Content Warning:
Due to the dark themes surrounding abuse and trauma, please read the trigger warnings before starting.

This. Was. Fabulous. Way to go, Indi! Declan was freaking perfect. He was my favorite type of MMC. He was super duper possessive. He was absolutely obsessed with Savannah. I couldn't get enough of him. Savannah was amazing too. She has been through SO much! We find out how much while reading, and my heart went out to her. She may have been fearful and skittish, but she was so strong. She survived. And Declan helps her thrive. Kenzi was an adorable addition to their story. I loved how Declan was with her. When a man not only accepts a momma and child as a package deal, but sees that child as his, it is incredible. It says so much about the man. I know, I married one. Declan had been through a lot of hurt and pain in his past too. We meet his ex, and I have to say, you will love to hate her. Lol. She's awful. I absolutely love reading two hurt people coming together to create a beautiful life full of love. They heal each other. Plenty of drama and danger in this too. You will not want to put it down.

I received a complimentary copy and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

love Indi but this one -not for me

Ok, I’ll start by saying I love Indi Marie and her books (usually), but this one was not for me.
Something in the writing was under developed and stilted.
Some scenes were a smooth read, everything made sense and the characters acted as expected.
Other scenes were a bit too cliche’ or too “cringy”.
The background story to both main characters was a little over the top for me.
The FMC fled from an abusive relationship, but it’s like the type of abuse did not skip ANYTHING. All the types of abuses - she went through.
The MMC lost trust because of his ex, and again, their story was waaaayy over the top.
I think the same traits in the characters could have been explained without so much drama and extremes.
Also perhaps this is petty on my part, but being a mother myself, the 3 year old daughter, did not act like a 3 year old. Sometimes she was a “baby” and sometimes she had abilities of much older kids…

So whilst the basis is solid, the author definitely has talent (other books I read), I felt this was like trying to push a puzzle piece, not necessarily in the right place… so regretfully, I DNF’d at 68%
Sorry!!! 😔

Loved! Indi Marie never disappoints. I love her over the top.. possessive.. obsessive and a wee bit crazy MMCs. Gah! 😩 SO good. 🥰 I will admit I found the first part a bit wordy.. lots of inner dialogue. It does help us KNOW the characters better and give us insight to the way they think and why.. so not necessarily a bad thing. It was just a lot. 😉 Once the MMC decides our MFC is his.. there is no stopping him. Cue steamroller! 🤣 Some serious head shaking here and there for me. Cracked me up but absolutely loved it.
It takes the MFC a little longer to get on board as she’s been through a lot. Her husband is a monster. As the story progresses we truly get a feel for just how big of a monster he is. 💔
It was great to see some of Marcello in the story too. If you love Indi Marie.. you’ll love this one.
⛔️Check trigger warnings⛔️ Although the MFC is married when she has a relationship with the MMC and technically it is “cheating”.. I didn’t find it offensive.🤷‍♀️ I am hoping we will see a book about Sheriff Mason soon!!

I like the premise of this book a lot. There were a few things about it that hung me up, tho. First, the H mused profusely before he met the h that there was no chance for him to ever be okay with a relationship or trust a woman again, lived celibate and reclusively for two years, working all the time. Then, within about a day, all that is by the wayside and he's a complete ott/jp stalker. I needed a little more time for him to get there. And there were two things physically about the H that were a turnoff: he had gauges in his earlobes (just not my bag, sorry) and when describing the size of his package, he said it was too big for him to get his entire hand around it. Yikes. Picture a soup can or peanut butter jar. And this guy is 6'4" tall and a big guy overall. Can this ever be a comfortable fit for anyone? I like this author, but this book just fell a little short for me.

I received an ARC and I'm freely reviewing.

3.8 stars. This is a new author to me and the premise caught my attention. Just so you know, there are triggers of sexual assault, chd abuse and domestic violence. Savannah and Declan meet about a year after Savannah flees for safety. Savannah is trying to protect her child and herself but has accepted the bad guy will find her. They meet by chance through the help of Declan's mom. This is a long book that hooked me after some chapters. Declan was broken and determined to live alone but became obsessed after his first meeting. Declan is an alpha that has the dirty talk down pat. Savannah is able to get her voice and sass back with Declan. Not bad at all.

Another great read from Indi Marie. Declan and Savannah aren’t your usual couple, each carrying their own armour of scarring and trauma. But even with all the baggage they can’t deny spark that ignites between them. Declan’s falls for Savannah nearly instantly, while Savannah is being more cautious having her daughter’s safety and wellbeing set as a priority. If you love your book boyfriend dark, determined and with obsessive personality - Declan is your man. I won’t spoil any more of their story as I feel it would ruin the joy of reading. But it is lovely story to read and we even get to see some familiar face. Please check the trigger warning, but if you good - enjoy!

India’s writing is like if Hallmark had smut. I mean that in the best way possible. It’s fast paced, a tad cheesy (but like cheesy that makes you all warm and fuzzy inside) and always ends in HEA.

Savannah and Declan story is no different. It starts off showing their tainted pasts but once Declan meets Savannah for the first time it’s game over. By 30% Declan is full send on the OTTP slightly unhinged side but also still a giant ass teddy bear.

If you want insta lust/love, an obsessed, burly “Paul Bunyon” with a breeding kink, and a single mom on the run FMC, then this… this is the book for you.

Oh, how I absolutely gobbled up Declan and Savannah's (and Kenzie's) story! This author has definitely become my go-to for ott, j/p men with all the br33ding my little heart wants, and this book definitely gave me all of it! It was deliciously steamy, k!nky, ott in the best ways, and had me swooning so hard I felt like I would literally fall over. It also had some sweet and precious moments with found family and a little girl that stole everyone's heart. The backstory for both Declan and Savannah really pulled at my emotions (dang it, I wasn't expecting that!), and the story was even more wonderful for it!

It was an amazing quick read. I honestly enjoyed it A LOT. Savannah is a single mom running from her abusive husband and she ends up in a small town where she meets her landlord’s son Declan, Declan thought he would never love again but all that dissapeared when he saw savannah and her daughter. Once he saw them all he could think about was them being his. He wanted savannah as his wife and her daughter as his daughter aswell.
LOVED LOVED THAT HE ACCEPTED BOTH OF THEM. The jealousy scenes, the stalking, the spicy scenes were all so good.

The synopsis had me falling in love. I mean, who doesn’t love an unhinged morally grey hero? Also read the reviews that warned about the writing and such but decided to give it an honest try. My bad, the reviews were right. Everything happens too quickly and feels thrown in at haste. The writing leaves much to be desired in my opinion. Of course we want our morally grey hero to be instantly hooked but in this story it doesn’t make any sense and feels too rushed.

It’s a shame because I still like the trope. Might give another try later on but for now it’s my first DNF

Loved the beginning

I was really enjoying this until around 40 percent. At that point there seemed to be a random twist. It got but felt off. Around 60 percent the language started to seem very repetitive. Like a character would have a thought or say something then a few sentences later say almost the same thing, then a few pages or so later, wed get the same concept in a slightly different verbage.

Overall the plot was good. I enjoyed the story line. However I felt the characters stopped "developing" around the 40-60 percent point.

Declan, scarred by a no-good ex who passed off a baby that wasn’t his, and Savannah, running from her abusive husband with her 3-year-old daughter… two very messed-up people falling for each other. Mmhmm. That is the makings of a fun read right there!

I enjoyed both MCs—the author did a great job of giving them depth and substance. They also worked well together to build up the story in a believable way.

It wasn’t my favorite trope, and there were definitely a few chapters that felt excess/unneeded, but overall it was a solid, enjoyable read.

I’m a dark romance addict — I live for the over-the-top, obsessive, possessive alphaholes and rarely get triggered by anything. But what I can’t get past is how badly this one was written.

The FMC’s voice made me cringe more times than I could count, and I was honestly pissed off through most of the book. I finished it only because I was already too far in, hoping it would redeem itself.

I love dark, unhinged men and well-developed, beautifully written characters — unfortunately, this story didn’t deliver either.

This isn’t my usual genre of book but it still has many of the things I like and enjoy, especially a protective and obsessive main male character! Declan definitely fits that profile and, fortunately for Savannah, he doesn’t take “No” for an answer.
Both Declan and Savannah are suffering from, and are damaged by, previous relationships and the repercussions of this continue to affect both the characters and influence the events that unfold in the book. Despite the obstacles they encounter, they are able to overcome these difficulties and are there for each other. There are some good supporting characters, particularly Declan’s brother Mason, and it was a nice surprise to get reacquainted with a character from one of this author's previous books!
