When your grandmother is so tired of loose ends, she uses her last will and testament to guarantee you’ll tie the knot.
Antonia Torres likes to think she thrives on chaos; she just quit her museum coordinator job in Puerto Rico to move to NYC as a most recent example. The promise of inheriting and revitalizing the building that holds her grandparents’ arts community center and family legacy was too much to pass up. And yet, according to grandmother’s stipulation, pass it up she will, if she’s not married.
Art history professor Matthew Larabee knows a win-win situation when he sees it. His sister’s college friend blows back into his life like an autumn gale—if an autumn gale were in desperate need of lodging and a marriage certificate. She needs to marry, and he, not having the snappiest of conversation skills, needs to get on the tenure-track by winning over NYU administrators with his married-man stability and charming choice of a wife.
All seems good-to-go tying that knot for an eventual amicable dissolution, until untying starts looking less win-win by the day. Who knew letting go of someone who lights up your soul and fills every empty crevice would be so conflicting?
The Super Big Favor is a clean, kissing-only romance novella with all the marriage of convenience swoon.
Nuria Muñoz picked up Pride and Prejudice in the ninth grade and thought she had discovered little-known author Jane Austen. At the time there was no one in her small-town Puerto Rico sphere with whom to gush about her love of love stories (especially those with a groveling grump).
Fast forward to an English degree, marriage to her childhood-bully-turned-best-friend, and living her homeschool-mom best life with four incandescently amazing children in Florida, Nuria found her people in the Bookstagram community. She now writes her own Kissing Only romances with all the swoon and wit.
This is a love letter to the marriage of convenience trope and in direct benefit of the Marriage of Convenience fans. Basically she wrote it for herself—the author is a self-indulgent fan and one can tell.
It doesn’t get much better than a contemporary set in a present-day New York City fall. From the Bronx to the Upper East Side to SoHo, the You’ve Got Mail Cranberries-Dreams vibes are strong with this one. The transportiveness is cranked up with no need to worry about being on the wrong subway platform or second-hand smoke. Cheapest jaunt to the Big Apple ever.
And this author is as generous with the forced proximity giddiness as she is with her hyphens. She was somehow able to fit as much as she could of both in this shorter format. Plus something tells me she might’ve been perpetually hungry when she wrote this—the food references are a little too vivid. Besides needing someone to hand her a sandwich, all the close-to-her-heart Latin cultural touches served to make the story as rich and homey as the plantain soup she seems obsessed with.
And speaking of obsessed. Antonia Torres as our heroine is a charming agent-of-chaos that can be at turns distressed damsel and fierce champion. And Professor Matthew Larabee is the kind of hero so adorably good you want to shove him a little to get all the cute aggression out. It gets a little much in the best way.
Wit and clever turn of phrase were promised and arguably delivered since one can tell the author makes herself chuckle often. She definitely has a voice and a lot to say. Plus, dare I claim her brand is “contemporary for the historical reader”? Not that the present-day girlies won’t enjoy it, but it’s pretty obvious she likes a good nerd-out when it comes to her academic characters and the tiny little nudges to history she sneaks in. Themes of chasing seemingly impossible dreams, finding support and family in unexpected places and the importance of a heart-swelling sense of community abound—besides people that are already married slow-burningly falling in love, of course.
Again, she’s just giving away this dreamy tale? Seems sus to me. You’d regret questioning it too much and not grabbing it up, though. Such a sweet, swoony good time.
P.S. I’m the author so objectivity might be a slight issue. Check out all the happy reader reviews on Goodreads for further convincing!
Content notes: Kissing Only. No swearing. On-page toxic parents. Brief mention of grief.
This is a sweet and delightful story about a marriage of convenience set in NYC. Antonia traveled from Puerto Rico to take ownership of her grandmother's art center. But she has to be married first. The brother of her college best friend needs a wife for making tenure as a professor. Just until they both get what they want. This story will pull on your heartstrings as they work together to make each other's dreams come true. Great debut novella that was a gift from the author.
There’s a lot of writing panache on display for an author’s debut work—the first person narrative was used effectively, allowing Antonia’s lively and impulsive personality to shine through and, in spite of the short format, the author ultimately convinced me that these two people are meant to be together.
I’m a little iffy about a modern-day marriage of convenience, and the motivations for it felt pretty contrived and the reduced space of the novella format didn’t leave room for much development. I would have preferred fewer descriptions of autumn in New York and less time detailing building repairs, and more interactions between Matt and Antonia. The interactions they did have were sweet with the barest hint of heat, and I would have liked more of them. I never bought that Matt would be assured and eloquent in front of a lecture hall but a zombie in social situations, but other than that he was absolutely swoon-worthy and Antonia’s bubbly personality was the perfect complement.
Still trying to decide how I feel about phrases used as verbs.

A super sweet escapist romance set in NYC in the fall, very clean and cozy—will have you looking for Puerto Rican food urgently. A lot of polish for a debut author. I’m looking forward to her first full length novel!
I am a total sucker for Marriage of Convenience romances and Nuria knocked this one out of the part. I don't think I've ever read a novella that made me feel so deeply for two characters. Antonia and Matt are just so easy to love and the sweetest human beings.
I love that Antonia is the perfect opposite to Matt where she is a quirky energy filled whirlwind of chaos and he is the steady strength with a quiet and calm countenance. I loved that they had a perfect push, pull, tension and longing.
Matt was so sweet with Antonia and it just made my heart warm each and every time they were together. I could not love this novella more and cannot wait for Nuria's full length novel soon!
She is such a talented author and I know this is only the beginning of the greatness that we will continually see!
Favorite quotes: "I don't think there is an 'enough' for me when it comes to you, Toni."
"You can stop being so good to me now." He turns fully toward me, placing his hands on my shoulders. "I wouldn't know how."
"I do love this loft and treasure my paintings, but this wasn't a home until my wife walked in that door."
"How was I supposed to kiss and hold you like that, know what it was like, and never do it again? Pure torture."

The Super Big Favor is well written with characters I, quickly, became invested in. The storyline captured my attention and I read it straight through. I highly recommend it, enjoy!
Disclaimer: I received this ebook from the author and this is my honest and freely given opinion.
Look, when a book has you in tears both because you're not ready for it to be over and because reading it was a completely amazing reading experience, you give that book 5 stars without any hesitation whatsoever! . This book has EVERYTHING you could ever hope for and dream about in a romance. Its only flaw is that it's a novella and automatically entirely too short. I really loved these characters so much and was just not ready to say goodbye. . I've had the best time getting to know this author through her witty and thoughtful book reviews, and I'm thrilled that she's branching out to writing her own stories. . (I received this novella ahead of its publication. All thoughts are mine, and a positive review was not required.)
*Novella* *Contemporary MOC* *Best Friend's Older Brother* *Silent Cinnamon Roll* Silent cinnamon rolls are a type all their own. Matt shows up. Helps out. Doesn't shout his name for the world to see. But he is like home, steady and just the right fit. Also, ultimately swoony at just the right moment, (HELLO KITCHEN SCENE🔥🔥). The ring! The mutual support, mutual pining, sparks of chemistry, and deepening attection make this a can't miss read!
Omg! Can we say buen hecho?! I loved everything about this novella! From its Latina rooted culture, the arts, the swoon worthy romance, all of it just drew me in right away. I’m beyond ecstatic with having found an author who writes from the perspective of my Latina roots, with all the romance, CLEAN romance at that, and literally weaves a story line , characters, settings, etc. together like a masterpiece. I can’t even believe it’s her first book 😳
I felt like I was reading my story or one about my Tia’s or primas…❤️🇵🇷
This is a contemporary romance set in New York in the FALL 😍 I’ve never been but it sounds very romantic and this story has only reinforced that belief (along with You’ve Got Mail and When Harry Met Sally!).
When Nuria sent me a DM and offered to send me a copy of her novella, I was so excited to read it. This came to me during a hard week and this sweet romance was just the pick me up I needed! I’m super picky about romance, especially contemporary romance. But this one checked all the boxes for me:
✅ no third act break up!!!! ✅ slow burn, believable romance ✅ mature characters
I absolutely loved the sunshine-y, slightly chaotic, confident Antonia Torres. She knows she is smart and she is sure her cooking can work miracles (I believe this too and wish I could have tasted her food!). When her college bestie’s older brother (gosh I love a friend’s older brother trope!), Matthew Larabee, offers to marry her so she can gain an inheritance, Antonia hesitates but ultimately goes for it. Matt is a bit stoic and socially awkward, unless he’s teaching at NYU or talking about art. Or being incredibly thoughtful to his new wife (who he begins calling Mrs. Larabee immediately? Ok. Come on, we see you, Matt. You’re already in love!).
This is a sweet romance that had me smiling the whole time. I really enjoyed this story and I can’t wait to read what comes next from Nuria! Pick this story up for a feel good romance that will warm your heart!
When a book starts playing like a film in my head then I know I'm in for a good time. For me that happened as soon as Professor Larabee walked through the door (it's easy to say I was quickly invested haha).
This had all the vibes of a cozy romance movie I'd keep returning to through the years! Alas, I must be content with it in it's book form (which I am). It's a short read but I felt like I got all the information I needed without it being jammed down my throat, so I was left to be happily swept along for the ride. Also I'm incredibly grateful for the mini time skips. I didn't feel like I was missing out (because ordinary, uneventful days exist) and it's nice to know feelings were brewing in a span longer than a few days.
To add more points in this books favor was how often it made me smile, how I gave an audible 'awwww', and at one point giddily kicked my feet like a little girl.
Yes, it took me 3 days to read a novella. Every night when I had to close my eyes, it hurt my heart. I wanted to just keep reading but couldn't. That's what happens when you are still adjusting to Standard Time!
Anyway, for the book review....
I loved it. What makes a good marriage of convenience story? ... A reader turned author that loves them!
I appreciated that Nuria didn't use the plot device of miscommunication as a driving force. I also liked that time passed in the story without every day being written on the page. Yet, I didn't feel like I missed out on the blossoming feelings. They weren't forced. I just loved it.
Where is Matthew? I want to give him a big hug. He's the best!
And I was one of the 27, at least I'm pretty sure I was! Can't wait until January!
I'm so sad this novella is over😭 it was too short. And truly a delight to read! And for it to be Nuria's debut book?! She hit it out of the park!
I don't know if I've read a modern marriage of convenience but I dig it so much. Toni and Matthew agree to get married because they both need a significant other to get what they want. Toni wants to revamp the community arts center willed to her by her late grandma but can't fully own it till she's married; and Matthew wants a tenure as a professor at NYU and having a charming, talkative wife would really up his chances. What a great win-win situation right?! Especially when their hearts get tangled up in the arrangement
Loved the single pov of Toni and the flow of the story. It had such great transitions of time passing without feeling rushed. The wit and humor was spot on and the romance so satisfying!
🤎Marriage of Convenience 🤎Best Friend’s Brother 🤎Friends to More 🤎Slow burn 🤎He falls first 🤎 Opposites Attract 🤎Forced Proximity 🤎Sweet Kisses Only 🤎Adorable Moments 🤎 Cute, Nerdy MMC 🤎Single POV
I always go into the marriage of convenience trope with high expectations and there was no exceptions with this one, but this one exceeded my expectations! The author put the right amount of details in the romance as it should be.. and not a lot of thought on the “marriage bed or intimacy” and I really liked that about it! The characters development was also well done by the author. This gave coffee/cafè vibes and sweater weather! It was both sweet and short..great for a cozy night on your bed for a quick swoony read.
—> Antonia I liked her! She was spunky and quite loving to everyone she met. She was also a great cook! 😁
—> Matthew I liked him more! He was adorable… all the little moments with him and Toni were so cute!
He really showed me that a nerdy professor could be just as swoony a character as any guy lol
Overall this was a a very sweet read! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves clean contemporary romances!
“How was I supposed to kiss and hold you like that, know what it was like, and never do it again? Pure torture.”

🔥Romance: up to sweet kissing - Closed Door/No Spice
3.5 ⭐️ for this super cute debut novella with autumn Hallmark vibes set in NY with a rundown art studio & a shy art history professor. Plus marriage of convenience.
The Goods: 🍂 The 'recreate a famous painting' scene—my favorite 🍂 NYC in the fall 🍂 Matt getting sick and being way more open than normal 🍂 All the yummy references to Puerto Rican food 🍂 The dinner party scene
Basically the middle was my favorite part! When does that happen?? The ending got a little cliche by wrapping up too neatly, and I wanted more depth out of Matthew since he seems too perfect, more of an 'ideal man you can tell is written by a woman' kind of guy, but he's a cinnamon roll so I'll let it slide. 😉
An occasional sentence felt confusing, and word choices like 'guffaw' and 'tsk' felt dated for the age of the characters. I don't know many guys who 'tsk' like mother hens haha. And I got a little grumpy when Matt and Toni let a phone notification interrupt their MOMENT instead of silencing it... But those couple nitpicks aside, this novella was really cute and had a lot of playful personality.
Can't wait to see what Nuria does with her next book!
Some favorite lines: "Babbling is my superpower. We're a mutually-beneficial match made in one-sided-conversation heaven." 😆
"I watch him leave as we part ways at the subway station. Add "Also looks great from the back" to the list of my imminently future husband's winning characteristics. I already added "Can agree to disagree" and "Does not slurp." It's more than most of us can hope for in the current dating scene. 😆
"I don't think there is an 'enough' for me when it comes to you, Toni." ❤️
Ahh!!! I get it now! My sister really enjoyed this story, and I had wanted to read it, but wasn't sure what to expect. I get the appeal now!
The Super Big Favor by Nuria Muñoz is a delightful novella and delivers an unforgettable story! This sweet slow-burn romance quickly won my heart and became an instant favorite. I loved meeting Toni (Antonia) and Matt. Nuria Muñoz has created a cast of endearing and delightful characters, and I loved getting to read their story. When Toni is called to the hearing of the will of her last grandmother, she never expected the surprise twist! How is she ever going to find someone to help her now? Low and behold, in swoops the unassuming hero.
Can these two work together in a marriage of convince to help each other reach their dreams? Well, only time will tell. Along the way, surprises, challenges, and realizations threaten to upend their whole plan. If only things could work out in a way they can both agree on. But is that even possible? Or will someone enviably end up hurt and broken when the dust clears and the ink dries?
Since the main character is Puerto Rican, she does out-loud as if talking to her late grandmother, which I would have rather not had in the story. She does mention not being sure her grandmother would hear her, but that was Toni's way of working through her thoughts. Still, not something I agree with or really care to read about. Again, personal preference, but just mentioning it for others. This is also pretty much the only thing keeping me from giving this a solid 5/5 ratings.
The story is unbelievably sweet and I adored these characters! Not only Toni and Matt, both of which are great, but also some of the other friends and helpers along the way. The story was very well written, and I can't believe this is a debut story! This novella is definitely one you won't want to miss!

✨ 4-Star Review: The Super Big Favor by Nuria Muñoz ✨
Nuria Muñoz’s The Super Big Favor was such a heartwarming and charming read! As the author’s debut novel, it delivered a delightful balance of sweetness, humor, and emotion. Though it’s on the shorter side, there’s so much to love about this story. Here’s what stood out for me:
✨ The Characters – The leads had great chemistry! I loved how their personalities played off each other, making their dynamic both entertaining and heartfelt. The female protagonist was relatable, and the male lead was easy to root for.
✨ The Plot – A fresh take on the marriage-of-convenience trope! While this is a familiar setup, the story added its own unique twist that made it feel refreshing rather than predictable.
✨ The Feels – This book had all the right emotional beats! From the lighthearted moments to the more heartfelt ones, it kept me invested from start to finish.
If you’re a fan of marriage-of-convenience romances, The Super Big Favor is a perfect pick, offering a cozy and feel-good escape. 📚
I adored this swoony sweet debut novella by Nuria! It’s so fun watching Bookstagram friends become authors and I regret that it took me so long to get to this one. I’ll definitely be reading her second book this summer! Anyways, this didn’t even feel like a debut with how well it was written. It was witty, with fun banter, a great Marriage of Convenience story line, and the sweetest MMC. There is yearning and gestures both big and small. Definitely recommend!
Content Guide: Kissing only (passionate and a bit descriptive, but not over the top) Difficult family relationships, death of loved one (past)
I'm going to need to figure out how to get a larger ribcage, because MY HEART has swollen up so big it no longer fits! What a book! Can this truly be a debut work? Nuria Muñoz has accomplished the impossible - she has written a *contemporary romance novella* that I love just as much as some of my favorite historical romance novels! I usually find novellas to be lacking because it is so difficult to fit a full story into so few pages without leaving things out or rushing things. And I don't care for most contemporary romance novels for two reasons - I want my reading time to be escapist time and don't want something that is too much like my real world, and I prefer the old-fashioned morals with no sex outside of marriage, even if it is FTB or closed door. This wonderful kissing-only story overcame both of those obstacles and delivered in a big way, with plenty of swoon.
I absolutely adored Toni's "voice." Even her mental ramblings were hilarious. She is so vibrant, fun, and nurturing. I want her for a friend! And Matthew. Whew. Can I have a Matthew? Pretty please?
I already enjoy Nuria's very entertaining reviews, and I really appreciated getting a free copy of this book by signing up for her newsletter. And now I am going to be eagerly anticipating her first full-length novel that's coming out soon!
P.S. I finished this book several hours ago, and I'm still swooning. Happy sigh. :)
Marriage of convenience is my absolute favorite trope! And this one was believable! I loved the characters! Really, there wasn’t anything about this book I didn’t love. I’ve even saved a certain Puerto Rican cookie recipe on Pinterest because who doesn’t love shortbread? Such a cute and fun story!
What a delicious little novella! I started it just intending to read a little before bed, but then I ended up staying up to finish it, haha. Marriage of Convenience is one of my favorite Regency era tropes so it was fun to see it in a contemporary setting. I also appreciated how the author did not use miscommunication as a plot tool because that drives me crazy when an author throws that in there at the end to create a problem. And yes, it's true that Matt is a bit too perfect to be real, but that's what book boyfriends are for.
My dear sweet friend, Nuria, has been entertaining us with her one of a kind, masterful reviews for a while now and she has finally taken the plunge into fictional writing. I know this new chapter of her life is exciting and stressful, but I couldn’t be happier that she is gracing us with her clever and charming prose.
The Super Big Favor, her first published work, is a marriage of convenience novella. And don’t let the word novella fool you. It may be short in length, but it is big on content. There is a sweet and tender MoC, super torturous slow burn, secret grand gestures, forced proximity, some adorable caretaking, and swoony kisses!
I thoroughly enjoyed this debut and can’t wait to see what Nuria can do with a full length novel. Congratulations, my friend!
This book is fantastic. If you like witty banter, romance that is both swoony and unbelievably tender, totally loveable characters, and an amazing setting, stop what you're doing and read it right now. Seriously, I laughed. I squealed. I swooned. And by the end of it, I was crying happy tears for these characters I had fallen in love with. That is *hard* to do with a novella, but somehow even with the shorter length Nuria makes it feel like you're really there in New York City watching all of Matt and Toni's gloriously awkward moments.
I absolutely can not wait for Nuria's full length novel to come out next year! If it's more like this, I'm sold.
So many giggles. Nuria’s writing is wildly entertaining and engaging. I found myself cracking several times at some of the one-liners and humorous metaphor. Antonia sounds like a hoot to hang out with! What a fun, sweet, quick read.
“Once we find and gain love-and community-we keep it. There is no greater masterpiece than that.”
~Antonia Torres likes to think she thrives on chaos; she just quit her museum coordinator job in Puerto Rico to move to NYC as a most recent example. The promise of inheriting and revitalizing the building that holds her grandparents’ arts community center and family legacy was too much to pass up. “You’ve had me. You’ll always have me.”
-The Super Big Favor is a “sweet and cozy love letter to the marriage of convenience trope,” and is a clean, kissing-only sparkling romance. While this debut story may be a novella, it doesn’t feel like one. It is delightfully filled with all the wonderful things: swoony moments, classic second-guessing, witty banter, hidden feelings, turtlenecks, fireside conversations, vivid food references, Puerto Rican deliciousness, humor, charming characters with heart, community, found family, forced proximity, and Don Cheo. I loved the beautiful weaved themes of chasing seemingly impossible dreams, finding support and family in very unexpected places and the importance of a heart-swelling sense of community abound-besides people that are already married slow-burningly falling in love! Friends, this dear story is worth the time, attention, and read, any day! I already look forward to more ahead from this dear author!🙌🏻📚❤️
