this book started so promising with a unique plot and interesting characters. i loved seeing the discovering part of the book and characters getting together. at some point chemistry was also pretty good. but that was it. even with good characters, some relationships were weird and confusing to me. main character and her brother were pretty closed together, at some point i forgot they were related. they were openly talking about sex in details. maybe it is normal to some siblings but it was awkward.

the conflict at 80% was horrible and the stupidest thing i’ve read. she actually liked, even loved him and out of nowhere she goes “your people won’t understand me”. there was no leading thoughts to this moment and nothing pointing to her thinking this before now. also, he’s not that different and why would you care what others thing about your relationship. for some reason it really irritated me because the plot was going so well.

it started at 4 stars for me but with the out of nowhere relationship and unnecessary conflict, the rating felt a little lower

this was a really fast faced, insta-lovely romcom but surprisingly fun. i went in expecting a silly romance and it delivered, it didn't go below my expectations and i enjoyed this for a debut novel 💞

both mc's weren't anything special per se but i liked how there was a somewhat emotional connection the characters had with each other before hooking up yk.

I'm always up for an adventure romcom!

What’s to love…
- adventure & Indian Jones vibes
- forced proximity
- fast-paced & action-packed
- brother-sister relationship/ family forward side plot
- disastrous meet-cute (I love when they meet under ridiculous circumstances)

What’s not to love…
- Some might find this a bit insta-love
- a little lacking in the angst and tension for my taste
- the characters were pretty flat and I had a hard time caring about the FMCs background
- I found the humor and some of the prose to read a bit cheesy at times.

The romantic tension was so DELICIOUS in this book! 😋 I was literally giggling, squealing and kicking my feet in desperation for Adriana and Andrew to JUST KISS ALREADY DANGIT! 🤩 The romance didn't feel rushed or forced at all - the progression was so natural (to me 😳) and I could really feel the connection between our characters!

The emotion was palpable - tangible! I couldn't stop reading, my eyes were glued to the screen!!! 🥹💓

Hear me out guys...

I was absolutely feral for this man. Don't even talk to me. If I look like I'm zoning out, I'm thinking about Andrew Jones. If I start giggling out of nowhere, the culprit is yet again Dr Andrew Jones. If I randomly scream into a pillow... you guessed it. DR. ANDREW. JONES. 🤭

The way I was SWOONING at literal words on paper. 😳 Andrew was such a gorgeous love interest UGH!!!! He was so patient and calm, even when frustrated, he never yelled or raised his voice even in very stressful situations - green flags everywhere 💚

"Your hair smells like roses." "Stop smelling my hair." "Your hair is in my face. I'm merely observing a fact."

₊˚⊹♡ 3. The Plot?!
The plot was so refreshingly unique and exciting! I've never ever heard of a romance with such a premise - a Colombian jungle treasure hunt including FORCED PROXIMITY with a hot British archaeologist? YES MA'AM SIGN ME UP. ✨

I am so glad my intuition told me to request this ARC because OMG. I am not the same girl I was before reading this. Digging Dr Jones singlehandedly reminded me why I love romance and even reading in general! (after a slump of about 2 months...).

˚ ♡｡ 4. The Downsides :(
I had a few minor issues with it, sadly... it was shaping up to be a definite 5 star until the romance started devolving into JUST sexual activities. The love and intimacy was still there, but the sheer amount of spicy scenes started to get a little bit annoying - but that just honestly boils down to personal preference! If you really like spice, then you wouldn't have an issue with it - sadly, I did 💔

This book wasn't the easiest to get into - but OH MY GOD around the 45-60% mark!? I was INVESTED. I was SAT. EATING this up like there was NO TOMORROW!! I couldn't stop thinking about this book!! Even when I was forcing myself to go to sleep, the urge to keep reading was making me want to sacrifice my sleep schedule 🙏

But then, sadly, during a moment of conflict there was a few lines that just confused me and made me a little uncertain regarding whether Adriana and Andrew actually like each other - like yes, they were under lots of stress in a near-death situation, but they were saying some really harsh things to one another... IDK, maybe that's normal for couples, but if I were in an argument to that calibre with the 'love of my life' after accidentally getting us trapped in an ancient temple, I'd burst into tears. (Maybe I'm just sensitive...😮‍💨)

Oh, you thought this was going to be a fun adventure with a little archaeology sprinkled in? WRONG. This was an absolute trainwreck of a book that had me contemplating throwing my Kindle into a pit of snakes just to make the suffering stop.

First off, let’s address the elephant in the tomb—this book has zero understanding of archaeology. None. Nada. Zilch. It reads like someone skimmed an Indiana Jones movie while half-asleep and thought, Yeah, that’s probably how archaeology works. Spoiler alert: IT IS NOT. Museums do not auction off artifacts (seriously, what the actual hell), and no real archaeologist is out here swinging from vines and wearing “Dr. Jones” like it’s a WWE title belt.

But hey, maybe if the writing had been strong, I could’ve turned off my brain and enjoyed the ridiculousness. Unfortunately, the prose had all the depth of a kiddie pool and the maturity of a middle school group chat. I’m talking painfully juvenile dialogue, plot holes you could lose an entire excavation team in, and forced “banter” that made me want to physically fight the English language.

Look, I went in hoping for a fun, archaeology-adjacent romcom, and instead, I got a fever dream of bad writing, historical inaccuracy, and secondhand embarrassment. If you have even a passing knowledge of archaeology, do yourself a favor and run in the opposite direction. Preferably into an actual jungle, because at least that would be a more authentic experience than whatever this was.

Andrew is an archaeologist and needs the bracelet to solve a clue, to find the treasure. I found this book to be a little silly at times.

i want to preface this by saying i was actually entertained throughout the majority of this book, despite my criticisms.

what didn’t work:
- insta love
- whiny FMC & i just could not bring myself to care about her
- some writing style/word choices were… interesting (for example: cannot stand when a character says “OMG” or “WTF” out loud). also a lot of the dialogue felt very fake & did not read like a real conversation
- one dimensional characters

what worked:
- funny meet cute
- the setting(s) & adventure
- fast paced

i think this one had a lot of potential & there will definitely be an audience that enjoys it - just wasn’t for me!

I always love adventurous novels but this is one that needed to be edited a little more. I'd give it a 3.5 - as in if you needed something easy and a little smutty to read while you have nothing else to do? Then it'll be fun. I felt like parts of it dragged though and the instalove was very National Geographic of Jackson to include.

🌶️🌶️/5 - Some scenes were fade to black but overall there were just a few more than necessary and I found myself skipping past them to get back to the adventure and the story.

**Would've also liked more jungley / scene setting. Sometimes I had the feeling of being rushed through scenes while looking for treasure and too much time spent on talking about not finidng the treasure?

The cover on this book is absolutely gorgeous and the blurb definitely piqued my interest so thank you to NetGalley for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

It took me a while to get into the story as the writing and dialogue were a bit too quirky for me. It was like the author was trying very hard to make the inner monologue of the protagonist comedic, but it came off more annoying. The FMC Adriana and her brother William were also very immature and childish. I couldn’t stand them at times. The romance was between Adriana and Andrew was rushed as well. They developed feelings so fast.

However, once I hit the 50% mark, the story kind of clicked for me. Adriana and William became more bearable characters and I found myself rooting for the romance between Adriana and Andrew. It helped they had a lot of cute and steamy moments in the second half. Andrew was a great love interest. He was broody, sweet and protective. He was without a doubt my favourite character. The treasure hunting was also really interesting and probably the strongest part of the book for me. I was itching to see how everything would play out.

All in all, despite the bumpy start, I ended up having a lot of fun with this book.

Reading the evolution of Andrew and Adriana's relationship go from disgruntled strangers to smitten lovers during their adventure was amazing. The contrast in their personalities plus the addition of the location and great side characters made for a fun story.

However, this book went on a bit too long for me, and I feel cutting out some of the repetitiveness would have made it more enjoyable for me.

I have never wanted to close a book so quickly. I love movies with this exact vibe and I was genuinely so excited upon reading the description.

All the characters were immediately annoying. Who in their right mind would agree within ONE page to go to a foreign country with a man for a mission he’s not even sure it would pan out.

The dialogue is young adult levels of juvenile. I would rather read a frat bros tinder profile than watch these main characters interact.

I genuinely don’t understand who this book was written for. DNFing before I go into a reading slump.

The premise of the book was captivating and intriguing. I was sure I was gonna love it… instead I couldn’t even finish it. To be honest, I realized the book wasn’t for me since the first few pages, but I tried to keep going for a bit. Unfortunately, I can’t bring myself to finish it.

For me, the major problem is the writing style. It’s clunky and childish. The FMC and her brother speak and think like teenagers. The story doesn’t evolve fluently and all actions feel forced. I couldn’t get past that. Also, I’ve read only a few chapters but I was already annoyed by how much the FMC mentions their daddy and mommy issues. It was thrown in everywhere.

AND the FMC’s brother is written in very stereotypical way ???? It’s 2025 do we really need to write the basic gay character who can’t go on holiday without bringing an insane amount of suitcases ??

I’m so sorry, but this is going to be a no for me.

Is it for FANS of Indiana Jones, the Mummy, Romancing the Stone, or Uncharted, or any other adventure film with a splash of romance? No. If you're a sunday enjoyer of these, then maybe?

At first, I thought it would be five stars - easy. The premise sounded nice, the cover looked not bad, there's not much that can go wrong with the idea. Then I began reading it, and had to adjust my expectations. 3 stars sounded fair. It has its "faults", but I'm still picking it up. It can't be that bad, but it could, and it was.

Adriana
At first she was whatever, but as the story progressed, I liked her less and less. Her personality was being a failure, having daddy issues (which were brought up way to many times), and being poor. And women and women crimes in the last 25% of the book? Honestly, I couldn't see what made Andrew fell for her. Wasn't sold on the romance at all, but more about it later.

Andrew
He's got no personality. If your standards for book men are just him being hot, having a big cock, and being obssessed with the fmc for no apparent reason, then you're going to like him. Me, personally, I like my men with a personality.

Romance
I wasn't sold on it. Before the got together we got some "quirky" sexy moments which to me seemed forced. Author was trying too hard and it showed and it spoilt it for me altogether. And I mean here stuff like, if you have to crowl through a tunnel and there's human bones, you don't accidentally straddle it. Any normal person would either pushed the bones to the side or crowled around it. Do you get what i'm saying?

Then let's discuss smut. We've got four or five scenes, which all were kinda average (at best)? It was described in a very methodical way, no passion, no emotion. I almost fell sleep. And don't get me wrong. I love smut in my books, but it gotta be good. QUALITY OVER QUANTITY. And it really wasn't.

William
He's Adriana's gay brother. Idk he was portrayed in a very stereotypical way that was 9/10 times there just to say stuff like "yess queen slay" and "go fuck him (andrew)" and to supply condoms for the main couple. Atp, if his character was given a proper shot, his plotline would be more interesting to read about. Not by a long shot, but he's got more chemistry with brandon, than andrew with adriana.

The adventure plot was interesting in the beginning, but the more I read, the fewer fucks I gave. Maybe it would benefit the story if they spent less time in hotels and more exploring.

British vs American English
It's established early on that Andrew is British, but honestly I quickly forgot about it. And at random points, he'd say words like: bloody, or loo, or knickers that would take me out of the story. The distinction between the two is more than just few random words, and it's more than just a few words here and there, so I consider this element failed.

Ryan Raynolds jumpscare - what are we doing in 2025 putting him in our books as the pinncale of male attractiveness. I suppose it's not too late to change it, at least to a different Ryan.

Product placement, I see you apple watch and iphones.

But overall, it was easy and quick to read, and it didn't drag on too much. But maybe lower your expectations a few points.

This adventure romcom centers on a woman who accidentally binds herself to an ancient bracelet intended for a renowned archaeologist, drawing her into a treasure hunt in the jungles of Colombia. With *The Lost City* vibes, I was excited by the premise, but unfortunately, the execution fell flat.

The writing style was the primary issue. It felt clunky and juvenile, reminiscent of YA rather than adult fiction. Both the protagonist, Adriana, and the male lead, Andrew, lacked personality and meaningful character development. They felt one-dimensional and it was difficult to engage with them. The dialogue often felt forced and unrealistic, and the story didn’t evolve fluidly, with many actions and reactions feeling contrived. Additionally, the frequent references to the FMC's “mommy” and “daddy” issues were overdone and detracted from the narrative.

When it came to the romance, I wasn’t convinced. The supposed chemistry between the characters felt unnatural, and the attempts at “sexy” moments were more cringeworthy than enticing. It was clear the author was trying to build tension, but it came off as forced and lacked any real spark.

The portrayal of Adriana's brother felt stereotypical, especially with the overdone cliché of the gay character packing way too many suitcases. It just felt outdated.

**What didn’t work:**
- Immature, clunky writing style
- Underdeveloped characters with no personality
- Forced romantic moments
- Overused emotional backstory about “family issues”
- Stereotypical character portrayal

While the book had potential, it ultimately didn’t deliver for me. I’m sure it will appeal to readers who enjoy this style, but it fell short in terms of character depth and authenticity.

Ok let me start off by saying this book was the perfect debut! It was such a fun read. I was hooked from the first page. It had the banter, adventure, and just the right amount of spice.

Adriana puts on a bracelet thinking it’s for her but actually it’s for Andrew next door. And now it won’t come off. Andrew works for the Archeological Department of Cambridge and is not about to let her mistake cost him his career. He needs that bracelet to find a lost pirate treasure and she’s coming with him.

Fans of The Mummy, Indiana Jones, and The Lost City will definitely enjoy this one!

I knew from the moment Adriana and William spoke acronyms out loud that this wouldn't be for me, but I persevered 😭 I wish I could say the pay-off was worth it.

The pacing was hard for me to get a grip on - the story itself is very fast paced and takes place over the span of less than two weeks, but so much of that time is dragged out in hotel room scenes that make it feel much longer than it is; not to mention the sheer amount of times we're reminded about Adriana's sad upbringing and her financial insecurity - a lot of words are used but it doesn't forward the plot in any meaningful way.

I wasn't fond of any of the characters - I was probably least annoyed by Andrew (though his weirdly clunky declarations of love for Adriana did make me roll my eyes). Adriana and William are extremely juvenile and got on my nerves a great deal, and William is a walking stereotype. There are a host of evil side characters but I sometimes found it hard to differentiate between them because they have no real impact on the stakes. The inclusion of Andrew's ex was baffling, she seemed to only exist to drive Adriana's internalised misogyny.

A lot of telling instead of showing, I couldn't really visualise the environments they were exploring or connect with the mystery they were meant to be solving which is a pity because it sounded so fun in the synopsis!

"The dildo of consequences rarely comes lubed" is a real sentence that's about to be published so. It feels like I'm witnessing history happening in real time if nothing else.

If you’re a fan of adventure movies like National Treasure and Indiana Jones but also want cheesy romance then you should definitely check this book out.
Is this book ridiculous? Yes, of course it is! But it’s also a lot of fun and I really enjoyed the relationship between Adriana and Andrew. They meet after Adriana accidentally receives a package with a mysterious bracelet that she then puts on (why, idk) which turns out to be the key Andrew needs to discover some mysterious treasure and also happens to now be stuck on her wrist. She then agrees to join him on his treasure hunt after knowing him for mere hours. Like I said, it’s ridiculous but fun. What follows is lots of adventures and danger and a whole lot of making out in places they maybe shouldn’t. Like, where are their priorities! It was a little insta-lovey between the two main characters but I did also like the way their relationship progressed and how they got to know each other.
The one thing I didn’t really like was that there were a lot of body shame-y things said by Adriana and her brother. They were mostly directed at themselves rather than putting down other people but it still didn’t sit right with me. It wasn’t a major part of the story so I was able to move past it and still enjoy the book but I do wish there had been less of that.

‘Digging Dr. Jones’ was hilarious, heartfelt, and full of swoony, treasure-hunting goodness. As a girl who’s hardcore obsessed with ‘National Treasure’, this book hit everysingle mark. Think: a sprinkle of ‘The Mummy’, a dash of ‘Indiana Jones’, and vibes for fans of Christina Lauren’s ‘Something Wilder’. Honestly, if this were a movie I’d rewatch it so many times it’d be in my top five of all time.

Adriana and Andrew? Literal CUTIES. And the treasure hunt element? Chef’s kiss. I’m not even kidding when I say I pictured Nicolas Cage the entire time—I could not unsee it😭✋ I’ve clearly watched ‘National Treasure’ way too many times and I have zero regrets🙂‍↕️☝️

Also… can we PLEASE talk about William?? We love a comdedic side character. Not even real, yet I’m ready to give him an Oscar. Hilarious, chaotic, and 100% my spirit animal. I haven’t laughed this hard reading a book in FOREVER.

Highly, highly recommend this one. It made me want to rewatch ‘National Treasure’ for the 100th time. (Which I will be doing immediately.)

This was an enjoyable read. It's easy to follow and the writing was great. There's wonderful descriptions and I felt there was a lot of thought put into the plotting to give you that mysterious adventure.

Adriana thinks she's received a lovely gift in a beautiful bracelet but it ends up belonging to the handsome archeologist Andrew Jones. Adriana is up getting roped into an adventure of a life time looking for a lost treasure in Columbia. There's turns and puzzles to be solved. Adriana finds herself on a personal journey to overcoming her issues of relationships and fear of love. Adriana and Andrew have great chemistry and I really liked how much of a cinnamon roll Dr. Jones is.

The only thing stopping me from giving this a higher rating is I found Adriana's inner monologue a little frustrating at times. Also, how she tries to let her anxieties ruin something wonderful for her no mother how much she's shown. Also, once the spice was introduced it was kinda back to back and I was finding myself wanting to get back to the storyline. Other than that a fun story!

This is a great summer read! If you're a fan of adventures and Indiana Jones then def check this out! Thank you @onemorechapter for the gifted ebook.

(4.5 stars) When I first laid eyes on this book, I 100% thought to myself, “I don’t care what this book is about, I’m in love with the cover and reading it” - and WOW, am I glad I did. What a perfect summer read with equal parts adventure and romance.

While on vacation, Adriana Jones receives a stunning and surprising anonymous gift - a beautiful gold and gem bracelet. So, of course, she immediately puts it on. Unfortunately, she quickly learns two things: First, the package was actually meant for another Jones staying at the resort - renowned archaeologist Dr. Andrew Jones. Second, it absolutely will not come off her wrist. These facts are compoundingly problematic as Dr. Jones needs the bracelet to find a treasure in the Colombian jungle, and the clock is ticking. Which is how Adriana finds herself on an Indiana Jones-style adventure with a real-life professor and treasure hunter who happens to be the best-looking man she has ever seen. Things are about to get very interesting.

What. A. Treat. I just flew through this book! It is truly a spicy Indiana Jones romance with hidden codes, mysterious ancient structures in the jungle, rivals on their tail, and this palpable electric attraction between Adriana and Andrew. Add to that their fantastic relationships with their siblings, the way they slowly open up to each other, and the adrenaline of their whole situation, and I was just hooked. Jackson has her second book, Hunter’s Treasure, coming in February, and I’m going to be first in line!

When I first read the synopsis for this book, I immediately listed it as Want to Read. Then, when I was browsing NetGalley I requested it… and GASPED when I was approved. I was so excited for this book because as a fan of all things romance and Indiana Jones I figured it would be the perfect book… and it was so good. Do you like Indiana Jones? Do you like the Uncharted video games? Do you like Lara Croft? What about romance too? Okay great! You’ll love this book. It’s cheesy, suspenseful, funny, and heartwarming. It was fun and quick and I truly enjoyed it so much. Thank you, NetGalley, for this ARC. I am so excited for other people to get their hands on this!

It’s a bit cutesy and slightly cheesy in style, which isn’t always for me, but it was also a fun and easy romance with a bit of heart and humor to it… so just depends on what you’re in the mood for.

I enjoyed the quest across various South American locales complete with sweltering and green atmosphere. The search for clues and ancient treasure drove this story at a steady and engaging pace. The (somewhat) opposites attract romance eventually paid off after some real conversations but Adriana’s constant up and down mental fixation on Andrew grew tiresome. And, possibly just not my interests, Adriana’s business venture sounded boring and not particularly lucrative. So hearing about it multiple times felt uninspiring and so at odds with the high stakes adventure they were currently in.

As for secondary characters, William was both fun and frustrating. He really did feel like an awkward third wheel at times and I thought he would exit the story at some point. But he also helped maintain the upbeat vibe of the book and added some key cheesy moments (again, if that’s your sort of romance, you’ll love it).

The ending is a lot of fun. The whole story builds to the action filled conclusion and eventually a decent, if idealistic, happily ever after. I’d still call it solid summer read, perfect for vacations in hot locations.

What is the point in a treasure novel if we don’t actually get to share the treasure. I’m pissed.

It was a 4 star but the ending ruined it… Like don’t tell me the treasure we found was love! We could’ve had BOTH some extra coin AND a boyfriend

Also I feel like neither of them had any character arc… they literally had the most stupid conflict at 80% that was completely forced and made up. And the spicy scenes actually made me cringe… maybe this is a 1 star

it took me a while to get into it because it didn't seem like the MMC was the love interest? there was no romance, tension, chemistry at all between the two main characters. i skimmed a bit in the middle until they were actually going on their lil adventure/treasure hunt and that was pretty cool.

Such a funny romcom adventure with nifty nods to Indiana Jones. Loved the characters, the romance, and the spiffy wit. Perfect for contemporary romance fans who adore delightful spirited tales. I dug it and you will too!
