2/2/25 I'm sad this was MTL'd and messy, otherwise I'd definitely put it on my "books to rec" list. I clearly really enjoy a smitten, scheming ML, with an initially indifferent FL. Especially in ancient China where women too often were at such a disadvantage. I loved that FL was so unconcerned with unimportant things - and to her, basically everything was unimportant, other than medicine, her grandfather, and her personal maidservant. LOL ML had everything go too easy for him, so it was nice to see him at a loss and uncertain. (Even his grandfather enjoyed it.)
The emperor was good other than the idiocy with Xi Wang, ML's dad. Like - oh a 10 yo tripped and that killed your daughter? You didn't bother investigating at all or listening to it.
Poor guy. I mean, I guess becoming emperor was consolation " " but ... ML could've and would've pulled it off anyway. And already did. So that was really unsatisfying.
I did actually like "P12" - lol and apparently I like mess too - cuz I really wish he'd tried more on FL - give us an extra where they're maybe together! LOL and I knew it was ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE - but in my head? MENAGE! [Though I guess it'd be potentially creepy for uncle/nephew sharing a girl, even though the two are only a decade or less apart?]
LOL I've veered off into left field.
ANYWAY. FL definitely had a hard life - and I'm glad the book didn't harp on it too much - no pointless suffering, mentioning it is enough. And it was nice she didn't let shit get to her because at the beginning people were definitely super shitty. I also thought she ROCKED for bringing up divorce. (LOL at least twice?) And the face slapping when Xi wang looks at Xi wangfei like "oh see? this DIL you didn't want? Doesn't want your precious favored son.") I wish we'd seen more of him. I liked him a lot.
I can see myself re-reading this book.
