Vincent Maggy can no longer cope with society. Bowing out, he stocks up his apartment with canned and dried goods, and barricades himself from the world. Vincent cuts himself off not only from all human contact, but the light of the sun.
But while the world moves on without him, virtually at the speed of light, time stands still inside Vincent’s apartment. With bugs and roaches making their way inside, he becomes one with the larva, the disease, and the darkness. Finally, after months of living blindly, he decides to pull the boards off the windows. What he finds is a world shockingly different than how he left it.
Another thought-provoking piece in the tradition of Blue Sky Winter, King of Forgotten Land, and All It Will Always Be, One world is a dark trip down a lonely, isolated corridor about being unable to cope with society and being unable to connect with others. Heart-breaking, imaginative, and beautiful in its own right, One World manages to resonate with the truth of our own humanity.
Brandon Berntson grew up in various towns throughout Colorado, where most of his stories take place. His work spans from serious, adult horror to playful, young adult fantasy and everything in between. He is the author of Castle Juliet and When We Were Dragons, enchanting, magical reads for all ages. He is also the author of Body of Immorality, a cryptic collection of horror stories, and the raw, adult themed All The Gods Against Me.
He loves art, music, indie films, classic horror films, and hockey. He lives in Longmont, Colorado.
Again, I can't say enough about the darkness of some of these stories. This is another heartbreaker, but very real and imaginative to me. Brandon can really capture some pain and heartache of being alone and exaggerating it.
