Como mucho en el mundo Dragon Ball, esto se abre y se cierra con peleas: Goku contra los monstruos de Uranai Baba al inicio, Yamcha versus Tien Shinhan al final. Y entre medio de estos dos combates se narran dos de los momentos más hermosos y emotivos de Dragon Ball. Uno de ellos, con igual fuerza en el manga y el anime, es cuando Goku descubre que alguien a quien se estaba enfrentando en combate, un luchador con máscara de gato, era alguien importante para él (no sé cómo explicarlo, pero es un olor que me trae alegría, dice Goku y todos lagrimeamos). El segundo momento es más del anime que del manga, pero no quiero dejar de nombrarlo porque está entre los segmentos más bellos de todo Dragon Ball: el viaje que hacen Goku y Upa arriba de la Kinto'un hacia Karin con las esferas del Dragón, que en el manga está representado en una única viñeta, pero en el anime fue transformado en una escena musical donde los personajes profundizan su amistad, juegan entre las hojas, atraviesan nubes, etc. Busquen esa escena en el anime (episodio 78, minuto 7) y disfruten.

Llegando al final de la saga Origen las páginas siguen volando. Lo leí hace meses y no recuerdo exactamente qué contiene cada tomo, pero sí que el nivel es máximo y constante.

Yo sigo sin poder creer que después de décadas de presentar a algunos personajes secundarios los haya seguido usando.
Por otro lado, a cada página encuentro de donde salió muchas cositas de otros mangas, el Legado de esta serie es increíble, e incalculable.

Oh shit! I forgot Son Goku waku-waku'd as early as this volume!
Anyway, this Full Color volume contains the start of a long stretch for Dragon Ball which I consider to be actual perfection in the manga medium: the Tenshinhan tournament through the defeat of Freeza on Namek (As much as I love Mirai Trunks, and am tempted to extend to Freeza's final defeat on Earth, I kind of feel Mecha-Huriiza and Super Saiyajin Mirai Torankusu undermine the significance of Goku's awakening...). The way these Full Color releases contain seventeen chapters kind of fucks with my ratings, as I do not think the Baba Uranai Arc is as good as the following arcs. And, technically, what we see of the Dai-Nijuuni Tenka-Ichi Budoukai Hen (yeah, I'm saying "Hen" instead of "Arc" now...!) in this release is by no means the peak (if I wanted to get more specific, I could say "the most perfect stretch of the manga starts with Jackie Chun versus Tenshinhan and ends with that face Super Saiyajin Son Goku makes when Freeza abuses the gifted energy for an attempt at a suckerpunch"), but I'm going to give this five stars anyway, probably mostly because of Grandpa Gohan....
Teared up a bit when revealed himself to Goku, though... he's kind of forgotten about some time after Goku gets married.... I mean, you know, beyond . There is a pretty cute (but non-canon) part in the Super anime when Goku reenacts this fight while image-training.
It's interesting to see some of the absurd martial arts feats in the first chunk of the manga, knowing they'd cease around the time Raditz shows up. In fighting King Chapa, Son Goku expels a hard breath of air against the ground and/or Chapa's fist, so as to create an opposing force against his fall from the ceiling, and reorient himself mid-air to land a blow on King Chapa. It's a ridiculous display of Goku's new power after three more years of training, and something we won't see too far in the future. Then again, our heroes will soon gain the ability to fly with ki, so this technique, or the Reverse Kamehame-Ha will be kind of unnecessary....
Toriyama should bring back Akkuman since his Akumite Kousen would definitely kill middle-aged Goku. I think only Pan would survive, and even then it's hard to say because it's not exactly morally white to fake your own kidnapping to encourage your father to get strong again....

Tome plus transitoire que les précédents, il permet de voir Goku et ses camarades grandir et on y assiste toujours avec autant de nostalgie.
On sent qu’on est à la césure entre ce que veut faire l’auteur et ce que son éditeur et le succès de son manga lui impose, ici. Lui, voulait un récit d’aventure, c’est ce qu’il tente d’imposer encore avec la rencontre avec Baba la voyante, revisite du personnage de Baba Yaga, mais ses éditeurs lui imposent ce format de tournois qui a tant de succès. Il mélange donc les deux et c’est malheureusement déjà un peu répétitif… Heureusement qu’il y a son humour !
Je suis donc un peu partagée. J’aimais l’aventure des débuts et ici, aller à la recherche de la dernière boule de cristal pour ressusciter le père disparu de son ami, est touchant. J’aime ce Goku fonceur qui fait tout pour les gens qu’il aime et surtout j’aime l’imaginaire autour de Shenron, des voeux, des boules de cristal, qui ici se mélange avec la voyance de Baba et les pièges maladroits de Pilaf and Co. Il y a certes un côté »facile » où on nous fait croire que les adversaires faiblards de Goku sont forts alors que ça se voit comme le nez au milieu de la figure que non et où on essaie de nous faire passer Goku pour plus faible qu’il ne l’est alors qu’on a déjà vu ses exploits… Mais on pardonne, surtout pour des chapitres comme celui de Gohan où l’émotion emporte tout.
Toriyama est efficace ici. Il veut faire grandir son héros et met devant lui ce qui lui permettra de le faire : affronter son rapport au deuil et à la mort. Ce n’est pas fin mais cela a le mérite d’exister et cela permet à la série de tourner la page et partir dans une nouvelle direction. Celle-ci se dessin assez rapidement dans les derniers chapitres : un nouveau tournoi, un nouveau maître d’arts martiaux et de nouveaux élèves à affronter. C’est ce que veulent les lecteurs et il faut avouer qu’autant les aventures hors tournois sont amusantes, autant elles sont souvent anecdotiques même si elles participent à construire les personnages, autant ce sont dans ces matchs qu’on vibre le plus. Pour le moment, ils sont assez courts, brefs et envoyés, mais je ne doute pas que face à Ten Shin Han et compagnie, cela va changer. Une nouvelle phase s’ouvre.
Je suis donc un peu partagée. Je vois à la fois les éléments sympa que l’auteur essaie de mettre pour faire évoluer son histoire mais aussi ses hésitations et ses essais narratifs répétitifs pas toujours concluants. C’est encore une série qui se cherche un peu à ce stade. Mais la nostalgie, l’humour et l’attachement aux personnages aidant, on passe un bon moment surtout avec cette colo qui rappelle l’anime de notre enfance. Go Go Sangoku !

Une enfance déjà bien mouvementée !
Dans ce tome, on retrouve Goku et ses amis pour la fin du tournoi chez Baba. S’ils gagnent, la voyante les aidera à localiser la Dragon Ball manquante.
Un livre qui m’a été offert par mon petit frère car il a reconnu le personnage que je regarde parfois (vous aussi il vous arrive de faire des pauses animé quand vous êtes KO ?) donc je n’ai pas lu les premiers tomes. Toutefois, ayant vu l’animé, je n’ai pas été dépaysée.
D’ailleurs, j’ai justement aimé replonger dans cet univers connu et retrouver tous ces petits héros.
Outre les multiples combats, j’adore la simplicité de Goku et le fait qu’il ne faille pas se fier aux apparences. L’humour n’est jamais loin non plus. Une lecture au suspense mesuré mais qui me laisse une empreinte lumineuse.

Me alcanzó con una ojeada para corroborar que este tomo era merecedor de cuatro estrellitas y no tres como le debo haber puesto en su momento con sueño. Motivos hay de sobra: Las peleas de Goku contra la Momia, Akuman y ya sabemos qué enmascarado :')
La revancha contra Pilaf y sus secuaces con el robot espectacularmente diseñado por Tori donde Goku queda en bolas y puede pedir el nuevo deseo con Upa (uno de los menos prácticos de la serie).
Y por último, toda la previa al 22º Tenkaichi Budokai, que no sé si está a la altura del 21º pero va a dar muchísimo de sí.
