Dust jacket notes: "Tiny eggs in a nest in a tree, or nestled in string and rags, or hung up high on a cliff side, - wherever they may be - these fragile eggs hold the promise of fluttering wings and sweet songs. "Roll smoothly Earth" and guard these precious things - - With an imagination tender and delicate enough to carry such a message, pictures and verses together present an exquisite little book that will be loved by all ages."
I was pulled to this book by the beautiful illustrations by Elizabeth Orton Jones. They stand up to today's full color picture book illustrations, and are spectacular for 1955. I was fortunate to be given a copy in superb condition.
