Vivian has sent Sarah to Kelowna, British Columbia, to antagonize a member of The Royal Canadian Mounted Police. When she arrives, Barry Ashford, the RCMP officer Sarah is supposed to irritate, has just saved a woman from a suicide attempt. To the media and the public, Barry Ashford is a hero. To Sarah, he is breaking the law and getting away with it because he’s a member of the street gang in blue. Since Vivian hasn’t revealed exactly what Barry is up to, Sarah doesn’t have much to go on. The message was simple: Antagonize RCMP Officer Barry Ashford until he confesses his crimes to her. Sarah’s efforts to goad him don’t work. Eventually, the entire Kelowna RCMP detachment is looking for Sarah on harassment charges. She can’t afford to be arrested and she can’t afford to fail Vivian. With her options running out, she abducts Barry, ties him up in the basement of her rented home, and interrogates him. Vivian leaves Sarah another message that Barry is only the barnacle on the Mother Ship. She needs to look deeper for a darker truth, one much larger than Barry. When Sarah comes face to face with that truth, she discovers an evil too large to handle on her own. One that will kill her unless Vivian intervenes. Sarah detaches herself from her friends and family to keep them safe, leaving her with no backup. Only Vivian, who never leaves her side, knows what’s really going on. And nothing is what it seems in, The Antagonist.

whenever I read a Jonas Saul book I try to make it last! But he is such a talented author it's hard. Antagonist is one of my favorites he got me on this one I just wish I could have lasted longer. Now I am on a Sarah Roberts detox! lol
I love the Sarah Roberts books can't wait till the next one. They all keep you on the edge. Keep writing and I will keep reading, I recommend reading all the books
I'm truly at a loss for words upon reading this one. Jonas Saul has my mind reeling as to what could possibly be next. This authors writing style has me in awe and wonder. Where in the world did this story come from? How did it originate? Well, I guess I better keep reading.
This is the third book i've read in this series. The series revolves around a young woman named Sarah who is called upon by the ghost of her dead sister, Vivian to solve crimes. Vivian shows up by temporarily taking over Sarah's body, leaving written messages as to what she should be doing. It's an odd premise, but it works. These are good, reliable books with solid writing and decent characters. I feel good anytime i can pick up one of them. They haven't let me down yet. Series books are often disappointing these days. They tend to be episodes rather than true stories. These are different. Rather than being episodes, like a soap opera that never ends, these are like TV dramas which have a plot that resolves each hour long episode, but has elements of character development that continue throughout them all. In this book Sarah and Vivian take on a bad cop. Good book.
Maybe the Sarah Roberts series should be sub-titled: The injustices against women, the physical attacks on them and the men who get in the way.
In The Antagonist, Sarah pretty much lays low … still championing justice in the form of saving a suicide victim from a life of drugs … made available to her by a crooked cop … and prostitution in the house owned by the same crooked cop. But her inner turmoil over her nearly shooting her friend Parkman has taken its toll. Fans will hope the old Sarah is hidden somewhere. The challenge is to bring her out of hiding.
I’m a fan of Jonas Saul, but as the books are written in quick succession, I find missing words more common than I’d like. Still, I’d give him an A+ grade score for this tenth book in the series.
Another Great Book by Jonas Saul. I truly love the Sarah Roberts series. They are fast paced...action..and always something different. Now on to the next!!
Sarah doesn't disappoint! How can she get caught in bad situations while completing the tasks her sister gives her? There is a surprise and unexpected twist to this story. The ending is the best so far and shows Sarah might be growing up.....maybe? Continuing to enjoy this series, recommend . to anyone who likes mystery suspense and unexpected t×ists.
Not sure I really liked the storyline but it intrigued me enough to keep reading. The characters were ok not completely believable. Barry a bad cop was probably the most believable person in the story. Not sure I'd recommend.
Oh how I have missed you Sarah. Every chapter was suspenseful and clever. This book will keep you on the edge and anticipating Sara's next move. Not a dull moment, of course with Sarah there never is. Another homerun Jonas.
Can't seem to put these books down once I start reading them it's really hard to stop reading them. I think that Jonas Saul has a great character in Sarah Roberts and I'm enjoying the reads, I love Parkman too of course.
Sarah always takes risks but this time she took it to a new level. At least, she had the forethought to tape her actions with Barry. This one had the most disgusting bad guy/woman of all.
Is is one of the scariest plots in this series and I really didn't see how Sarah was going to survive this one. The ending was very surprising and some old hurts have been healed.
First, be aware that I'm being generous in my rating. Plot just isn't believable. And just too gruesome for my taste. I aborted this read after a few chapters, but then decided maybe I just had to get past that initial bad taste and feeling about the book. Against my better judgment, I did read the book to the end, telling myself there surely would be something redeeming hidden within the remaining pages that would help me understand how there could be so many books in this series, and why there are so many higher ratings. Alas, no redemption. Good-bye Sarah and Vivian, and good-bye Jonas Saul.
This is book ten for Sarah. She has. Some all too close to dying I don't see why she keeps going. This episode is much worse for her and it is just her and Vivian. I won't give much detail; but I will say she is so close to death that Vivian has to intercede to prevent such from happening. Did you know that human meat almost tastes like Veal? How do I know, read the book and see. I personally can't believe it.
This is one of his best books yet (but then again, they are all fantastic)! The Sarah Roberts series is absolutely fascinating and great reading so much so that I read straight through and forgot about my dinner! I KNOW THAT YOU WILL LOVE THIS AND ALL OF HIS OTHER BOOKS AS WELL. Very Sincerely, Diane Galburt
More of a 3.5 perhaps because the subject matter is so unpleasant. (I hesitate to say, "Hard to swallow.") however, as always, the Sarah Roberts books are hard to put down and are compelling. I wouldn't be surprised if her character has her own TV series some day. I recommend the books, but start at the beginning. I've read them all so far.
Sarah is called to Canada by her dead sister, Vivian, to find the bad cop who is involved with murders and missing women. She really gets under his skin when she shows up at the wrong time but just in time to save an innocent soul. As usual, Sarah proves to all that she is "good"! What a great series to follow!
Few chapters to really understand what was happening but once I got into the story it was very chilling end made me want to continue reading to just see how it ended does Petray a lot of thrills and Mistry and his story and I look forward to reading more of his work
Sarah Roberts is a take action and take no shit kind of person. A good strong lead in a story with an interesting twist. However I am not sure that the murderer really fits the bill. It left me shaking my head, but I liked the premise of the story. The corruption of the RCMP officer was a good character.
I was really on the fence with this book until it got towards the end. I was kind of freaked out by the heroine and wasn't sure I liked her. There was plenty of action in this book and a big twist. I ended up enjoying it a lot. I am going to have to check out the other books in the series.
This read was action packed and very dramatic as well as little graphic. All in all a well told tale with well developed characters. Even though, this I not my usual type of reading material, I will most likely read more books by this author.
As always this series continues to entertain me with action and Vivian working through Sarah. Now that's blind faith because Sarah doesn't always know what Vivian is trying to do. But you got to love the connection between sisters in life and death..
The main character of this book is supposed to be antagonizing a bad cop, but has no idea as to why. For this reader, five chapters of not knowing what was going on were enough. I have other, better, things to read.
I am a volunteer with my local police department. I have been in law enforcement in the U. S Air Force, I have a great deal of respect for the police. I have seen the good and the bad on both sides. This was a great book. I will continue to follow Jonas Saul.
