Ashen Wolves #2

Shattered and Saved

Rate this book
I swore I’d never return to the pack that cast me out and the mate who rejected me.

And for the second time, I broke that promise.

After reclaiming the ashes of the sacred banyan that fueled our kind’s strength, I thought I’d be unstoppable. But when I saw Koen again, desperate and broken, I couldn’t leave him behind. Not again. Not when he needed me.

Defying our pack’s laws, I brought him into our sanctuary, risking everything without a second thought. I told myself it was temporary. That I could keep our worlds separate.

But having an outsider - an ordinary wolf - among us soon stirs trouble. Whispers of unrest are spreading. Loyalties are shifting. And I’m beginning to realize that loving him isn’t just dangerous for me - it’s a threat to my entire pack.

Because Koen isn’t an Ashen Wolf. And if I can’t find a way to keep the peace, keeping him here might destroy us all.

Spoilers included.
I really enjoyed this book - the second in the series.
We were able to find out a lot more about Azure Smoke the last pack of Ashen Wolves and previously the protectors of the Lycans.
Their history, what had brought them to where they are now and why Avril had to be ruthless for the sake of her pack even if at times that meant wiping out an entire pack or continuing to lie to the elder council about who she really is.
I really enjoyed finding out what extra skills Ashen Wolves had and how they used them shown against the juxtaposition of Koen and his wolf trying to train to match those skills to pass the trial.
I liked the way that things were played out with and resolved with Waylon.
Overall I enjoyed most Avril opening up to love, learning to trust and softening.
Then finally as they were able to connect their union was very hot but also powerful especially when Avril took control and marked Koen first.
I can't believe we have now been left on another cliffhanger arrrggh I can't wait to read the next instalment.

“I’m not the Alpha anymore,” Koen’s voice broke, quieter than I’d ever heard. “But I still want to be yours.”

I went into Shattered and Saved expecting more of the same pack politics and high-tension drama from the first book but starting of in chapter one the book does a 180 turn. Koen, the proud, infuriating Alpha heir, is now an omega—stripped of the title, the swagger, and the safety that came with it.

Avril, on the other hand, is in a very different place this time around. She’s stronger, more sure of herself, but that doesn’t mean her walls have come down. If anything, Koen’s fall puts her in an impossible spot—torn between the pain he caused and the pull she’s never been able to resist while being put in a dilemma choosing between her former mate and her pack. With that said i LOVE that she gave us more intell on Avrils pack and their history.

¨Koen had lost his purpose. Yet he hadn’t lost his will to fight, his drive. Against all odds, he continued to thrive. He was more than a simple survivor. He was a force of nature.¨

The beauty of this book is in the slow, careful rebuilding. The romance simmers quietly, built on shared glances, small acts of care, and conversations that feel like they could crumble at any second.
When the POV shifts to Koen were some of my favorite parts. Seeing the world through his humbled perspective gave the story weight—he’s not perfect, and Clément never pretends he is, but watching him learn to love without power was deeply satisfying. And the little pieces we get from both Avril and Koens wolfs brings that extra debt into the book.

If I had any critique, it’s that Avril’s hesitation sometimes circles the same ground a bit too long which is the same problem as in the first book. And with all the time they spent talking about the trials i wish there were more focus on it when it occured.

“If you’ll have me, I’ll fight for you—not as your Alpha, but as your mate.”

If you like second-chance romance, slow burn tension, and character growth that hurts in the best way, Shattered and Saved delivers beautifully.!!

Shattered and Saved is the second book in the Ashen Wolves series, delivering an intense and suspenseful wolf-shifter rejected mate romance that keeps readers on edge. Louise Clement masterfully weaves a story filled with heartache, angst, and unexpected twists, making it an absolute page-turner.
This installment follows Avril and Koen, two compelling and complex characters whose journey is both captivating and emotionally charged. Avril’s return to her pack and her decision to defy Ashen wolf tradition by bringing Koen back with her set the stage for a gripping tale. Their struggle to navigate their bond, alongside the looming threat of the council’s demands, adds depth and tension to the story. Koen’s dilemma—whether to sacrifice his mate for the chance to reclaim his alpha status—keeps the stakes high and the reader hooked.
Clement excels at crafting well-developed characters and an immersive plot that unfolds at a steady, suspenseful pace. The emotional intensity, combined with moments of intrigue and uncertainty, makes Shattered and Saved a thrilling read. The addition of Koen’s ex-wife and her son only heightens the drama, leaving readers eager for the next book.
For fans of paranormal romance and rejected mate tropes, this book is a must-read. Louise Clement continues to prove herself as a phenomenal storyteller in the genre, and I can’t wait to see what happens next between Avril and Koen. Highly recommended!

Summary:
This is the second book in a series. This book ends on a cliffhanger.

The story of FMC and MMC continues. MMCs pack has been destroyed, and the FMC takes him home to her pack. Where she reveals who she really is and the secrets of her pack. The MMC must prove his affection for her and her pack.

Review:
I still love this series. I find myself rooting for the MMC while still loving that the FMC is not a pushover. Being an Alpha the MMC is used to having his way but has to discover how to bend in a relationship when his mate the FMC is an Alpha as well.

The author does a wonderful job of keeping you engaged in the story.

This book instantly draws you in even more than the first book. As soon as I finished reading the first book I had to start the second one instantly and it did not disappoint.
Avril is the alpha for an unknown pack as they keep themselves to themselves for their own protection and the protection of their kind.
Koen is the alpha for the pack Avril grew up in and was Avrils mate until he rejected her five years ago for the sake of his pack but told her the truth when she spent a couple of weeks in her old pack to gain something her new pack needed in order to thrive.
They both miss each other after Avril disappears from Koen's pack after retrieving the item she needed. Upon returning to Whispering Hills to speak to Koen and explain everything disaster strikes for him.
Koen then returns to Avrils pack only to feel like an outsider and not welcome. Many people are unsure about him being there as it risks the secrecy of their pack.
Drama, Jealousy and secrets all start to come out and be revealed when Avril stands by Koen.
I underestimated just how many twists and turns there could be in one book. This one definitely kept me guessing and wanting more.
I also was not expecting another cliff hanger! I need the third book now please :).

This is going to be a Valentine Day release, Feb 14th, 2025. Which is perfect timing for our romance story!!

Avril and Koen had overcome a lot in the first book, yet their story if far from over. They have yet a new set of challenges, starting with switching roles on WHO is considered the "outsider." However, where Avril was considered unwanted, Koen is seen as a threat to their safety.

I once again finished in one sitting🙈 There is so much political intrigue, feuds and tragedy; yet both Alphas are trying to work their way through. I loved the tension in the romance, but liked how the plot seemed to take bigger focus in this book. We also get to know more of Avril's pack in this book, which I loved, especially her loyal sassy friend Rhea!

Favorite Quotes:
"Everything seemed uncertain now, but maybe, just maybe, we could reclaim what we had lost and forge a new path together."

"'No, and I don't care,' (Rhea) told me point-blank. 'All that matters is that she deemed you worthy...'"

"Tell me you're mine"

"'I'd give my life to protect her'...Joe huffed, his disdain evident. 'So would everyone else here.'"

Well I can say book 1 ended in a soft cliffhanger, this one ended in a bombshell with Koen’s ex-wife popping up with something that shouldn’t have had happened. The ending alone is a 4 the rest of this story was a 5. What and who the Ashen Wolves really are, their secretes and their history. Most times it seemed like a mirror from book 1 where Koen was alpha trying to prtect and win Advill’s broken heart he shattered when she was 18, 5 years ago. This time Advill is the ‘top dog’ saving and protecting Koen in her pack and what he endured, not as bad as his pack treated Advill but her pack didn’t respect him other then Theo & Elijah, whom we met in book 1. After restoring their sacred tree she went to see Koen and beg forgiveness for what she did only to come at a time of what will cause Koen to loose everything he know, will she save Koen from his fate by kidnapping him or will Advill leave Koen and their chance to rebuild what was shattered????

I absolutely could not put this book down, but when I had to I couldn’t stop thinking about it! I couldn’t wait until I could have it in my hands again! I love that the story picks up right where the first left off, wasting no time. The chemistry between Avril and Koen is electrifying! I love watching their relationship grow and develop. It was exciting to finally get to know more about Avril’s pack and all the challenges they faced and overcame! I also liked how the author showed character growth between side characters as well. Of course the added spice was a bonus! I cannot believe the ending! Wow! Talk about not seeing that coming! I’m left with so many questions I can’t wait to be answered! I’m eagerly waiting the next book in the series!

I actually think I liked this one better than the first book, which was also a great read. Shattered & Saved dives right in where we left off, with the FMC Avril taking her few pack friends and leaving her fated mate without a trace. She got what she went there for, but didn’t realize she was actually going to fall for Koen AGAIN after he had rejected her the first time. I really enjoy Louise’s writing and the way I am immediately drawn in and continue to stay hooked on the suspense throughout the story. We have sort of a HEA but dammit another cliffhanger lol so we will see how everything truly ends up in the 3rd book. If you like wolf-shifter romance stories with suspense and lots of action, I recommend reading Rejected and Regretted (Book 1) and then Shattered and Saved.

Book one ended with a cliffhanger book 2 ended with a big boom

This is the second book in the Ashen Wolves series and is another good read! I really enjoyed it.
This book picks up where Rejected and Regretted left off. April has achieved her aim of recovering the ashes and saved their sacred tree.

We find out why Avril has made some of the decisions she’s had to and why she poses a tough look.
Avril and Koen’s relationship continues and develops throughout this story and it is a bit of a rollercoaster to say the least. Both have to learn to trust each other again and that’s not easy with all the heartbreak
This ends is something Didn’t see that one coming
I’m looking forward to book three.

Shattered and Saved is book two of the Ashen Wolves Series.

This one gives us a lot of the answers we had from book one. I was glad to see a lot of things get resolved. However, by the end of the book we do get a few more questions which will need to be answered in book three of the series.

Avril and Koen have a tumultuous relationship together and they had a lot to resolve before they could move forward together. But just as they were finally getting to a good place, another curveball was thrown at them.

I really enjoyed this and can't wait for the third book to get more of my questions answered and see more about this couple.

In this second book of the series we get to follow Avril and Koen again. The gaps that were annoying me in the first book are filled as we learn more about the Ashen wolfs.

I'm still a big Koen fan! The way he tries to earn his place in the new pack, and keeps standing steadfast at Avrils side is heart warming. Avril still feels like the least nuanced of the two, and it's harder to connect to her character.

There is some spice in here, slightly more than in book one, with slightly weird anatomical descriptions, but shifters...

This book also ends on a cliffhanger so let's hang on for book 3!

This is the second book of the Ashen Wolves.

Avril fled Koen as soon as she found the ashes of their sacred tree, leaving him behind. After events left Koen injured and packless Avril makes the decision to go against Ashen wolf tradition and bring Koen back with her.

This book is a captivating read, well crafted with a blend of emotional depth and unexpected twists. The book weaves together themes of heartache, secrets, and angst, creating a story that keeps you guessing until the very end. The characters are well-developed and relatable. The plot unfolds at a steady pace, building suspense and anticipation with each turn of the page.

Once again author has left me as a reader on a cliffhanger anticipating book number 3. Shattered and saved is the second book in the Ashen wolves series and once again the author has knocked it out of the park. The story continues with Avril and Koen continuing where they left off in book number one. This is a wonderful story about Avril's journey and moving on in book two to the building of the relationship between the two main characters. This is such a fun read and draws you in immediately when you open to page one. I can't wait to see what the author does in book number three I'm looking forward to it.

I am speechless to say the least. Louise what have you done leaving on a cliffhanger like that. I am blindsided. 😅 this book was so good I’m so glad they reunited and how their story unfolded it made my heart happy! Now they ending though how can you leave us waiting till the next book on a cliffhanger like that out of all the things I thought could happen I never thought that would happen! You’ve truly left me stunned. I’m ready for the next one already to see what happens, I’m going to go sort through my thoughts now. 😂🥹

I am not okay! That ending, talk about intense and I didn’t see that coming. This takes place right after book one. I love Avril and Koen.

"ᴅᴏ ʏᴏᴜ ʟɪᴋᴇ ꜱᴇᴇɪɴɢ ᴍᴇ ʟɪᴋᴇ ᴛʜɪꜱ, ᴀʟᴘʜᴀ? ᴏɴ ᴛʜᴇ ꜰʟᴏᴏʀ, ꜱᴜʙᴍɪᴛᴛɪɴɢ ᴛᴏ ʏᴏᴜ?"

Avril is a very strong fmc. There’s a lot of growth in this book. I loved the spice as well! There are feuds, action and drama. And overall a lot of intense moments.

If you like shifters and fated mates I recommend this series so much!

The second book in this series grabbed my attention even more than the first! So much happened that I hadn't expected and I was gripped from the start.

I loved seeing Avril in her role as alpha rather than the omega facade she took on in the first book. She is a force to be reckoned with.

Koen had shown his kind heart previously and seeing his strength and tenacity despite everything thrown his way was admirable.

The story ends with new dramas to be resolved in the next book and I can't wait to read it.

Shattered and saved - book 2 in the Ashen Wolves series and it kicked off right where the 1st book ended. Keon is now an Alpha without a pack and it's down to Avril to uncorporate him into her pack if he wants to be. Only things there are not that welcoming to him. I really enjoyed reading their dynamic grew together throughout this book. More so than the first. A few plot twists especially at the end of this book but I thought this was the last book but I've found out that there's another book coming out. I can't wait to read that.

This book had me in a chokehold. I couldn’t put it down! I loved seeing the continued growth of the characters and the tension between them had me kicking my feet like a teenager. Just when things started to feel safe… Louise dropped a bomb that left me completely shook.

The cliffhanger? Evil. Brilliant. Torturous. I was finally celebrating their hard-earned happiness, and then BAM…utter chaos. I’m still confused, heartbroken, and dying for answers.

Book three can’t come fast enough. I need to know everything.

Holy (Azure) Smoke!!! Louise did it again with this one. When we were left on the previous cliffhanger, I wasn’t sure where our two main characters were going to stand with each-other in this book. I am very happy to report that the tension was deliciously written to keep us on the edge. The shock value of this book by far tops the previous one. I didn’t think this series could get even better than the last but it has. But Louise, another cliffhanger? Ugh, I cant wait to see what happens next and to see a new possessive side to our Alphas.

I'm obsessed with Koen and Avril. BUt that ending!? How could you do that to them when things were just starting to fall into place?! My poor heart 🤣

While I missed the push & pull of the slow burn in book one, I love Koen & Avril and seeing their love story unfold. This was still a slow burn in its own way, and the way they fit together just WORKS. And again, the ENDING?! You knew something had to happen, but that was not what I anticipated.

What sort of tension is book three going to drum up???

This book jumps straight into the action, which I loved. At first, I honestly wasn’t sure where things were going with Koen and Avril, but getting to see Avril’s world and watching Koen struggle to fit in was really interesting—it almost felt like karma coming back around!
I was rooting for their relationship to spark again, and it definitely delivered on that front. There were a few twists I didn’t see coming, which kept things fun and unpredictable. And that ending… wow. I was so glad I already had book 3 waiting, because I needed to keep going right away!

Another exciting book by Louise Clement (The Ashen wolf series)
As the story unfolds with Avril and Koen,
Their journey is filled with many many challenges.
Shattered And Saved contains many twists and turns, some happy, some sad, some intriguing, but never dull.
Avril is still the strong minded Alpha, and Koen well, wait and see.
😒 But what a cliffhanger,
Has made waiting for the 3rd hard
Thank you Louise for a well written book

Thank you Louise for a great follow-up to the first book in the series. Avril and Koen are a great couple who have already been through so much together and apart. Koen was awesome before and I love him even more since reading this one. But holy cliffhanger, girl! I knew the ending couldn’t be so simple. My gut clenches for what I fear is going to occur in the next book!
