Hearthomancy Vol. 3: A Men's Fantasy Adventure

Rate this book
Haunted swamps, conniving conmen, and evil mirror universes – how is a guy supposed to get anything done around the house?

With the advent of the System, I might have been able to make my lifelong dream of becoming a mighty wizard and owning a mystical lair come true, but it hasn’t been easy. Between murderous cults, power-hunger adventurers, and now a missing cornerstone, I’ve had my work cut out for me.

Finding what was stolen will require me to delve deep into the secrets of my hometown, including the enigmatic Order of Stone. But with a spidery scholar, a talented blacksmith, and my ghostly familiar by my side, we’ll get to the bottom of the mystery. Heck, I might even find time to take my newest resident—an ice-cold dryad—out on a date.

Dire schemes are underway, threatening not just my lair but all of Ashling Grove. Only by unraveling the cursed history of my lair will I stand a chance of stopping them in time.

Do wizards who purchase condos have to put up with this kind of crap?

nice continuation of the story

I like that so far the numbers of love interests has not been ballooning in the story like to so often does.

Enough action and fun elements to keep it an enjoyable read.

This book is a continuation of external forces trying to attack the manor that Brent is lord of. The quest to rescue the Ice Princes has added a new internal holding, what is left of the kingdom of Arcadia. Most of the kingdom is locked in a severe blizzard that is impenetrable, however the huge palace is available and attached to the atrium of the manor. Morietta the last dryad of the world or Arcadia has grown to be a beautiful woman and has much power of plant-life and the ability to heal. She has her regal manner and spends most of her time the atrium garden.
Someone is channeling madness mana from the properties of the manor and the manor itself, through the town. Pets and People are disappearing with no clue as to where they are going. A Drow charlatan has come into town and is making waves and showing quite a bit of interest in the manor.
Frank and the other crafters on the property they are renting across the street are making great breakthroughs and some have unlocked the Alchemist class. Somehow Franks mysterious benefactor is also involved, though nobody knows who she is. The quest to return the cornerstone of the manor brings Brent and his harem in contact with the Order of the Stone, since they stole the stone after building the manor because they weren't paid. How does all this further the schemes of Baphomet you'll have to read the book to find out.

This book was good, but it had some things that didn't thrill me as part of the plot.

The MC formally gains a harem member, the frost dryad discovered in book 2, as expected. The plot ambles at times as it gets around to what the next problem the MC will have to face. And the next antagonist is another "Bond villain" type drunk on the idea of acquiring power. That particular thing I have noted before about this series, that the antagonists were kind of weak.

One aspect I didn't enjoy was the final sex scene happening right in the middle of the penultimate battle with the antagonist. Sure, they may have been in a pseudo dream-like sequence, but it felt tacky to know that he and the hearth mistress/ghost chick have finally concluded their mini-battle while the others are all off facing danger, and they take the time to have sex before getting to the rest of them to make sure they're ok. It felt like a frivolous moment during all the life-or-death tension.

There were only couple of minor typos, so the book was very well edited.

Great story, even with editing issues

Alternate universe, LitRPG light, base building, magic, dungeons, harem adult situations

Brent and his ladies undertake their third quest and learn more about the manor that's their home. A new lady and potential love interest appears as Brent finally becomes intimate with the Frost Dryad. Ashling Grove appears to rival Miskatonic University and the town of Arkham for dangerous disasters.

Several typos, using words close but incorrect; the most repeated error looks like a search and replace error – hale for hail. Above average editing. At least one book done and a fifth nearing completion. Fun.

another stellar book

This has easily become by favorite series by the author, with the elements of mystery, action and thriller packed together and of course can’t forget the slice of life moments with the harem. This series hits all the right notes for me, making every page fun to read.

There were a few parts I didn’t enjoy, the latter part mainly. Annoying tropes that made me put it aside to read something else. I also wanted to see more of the wider world, some stuff gets mentioned but not in the detail I wanted, I can see the chances of the MC leaving the town are unlikely at this point in the series. Don't want to knock a star off as it's a personal preference

Nice Harem Work

And our story takes a deep breath. This was a good link to the next book. Yes there was a lot of action but it really felt like a place holder. The epilogue was extremely good
