I love The Duck Commander Family and read all of their books. I was at Hastings yesterday when they had Christmas novels at 50% off. I quickly scanned them and grabbed the latest Robertson tale by Miss Kay.

I opened the book at home and was surprised to find out that this was a fictional Christmas story.
Miss Kay writes a tale about a young, troubled, teenage boy who wins a trip to their house over christmas.
Miss Kay uses all of her family members to show this boy the true meaning of Christmas.

If you enjoy the Robertson family and Christ centered Christmas stories, you should enjoy A Robertson Family Christmas.

A ROBERTSON FAMILY CHRISTMAS BY KAY ROBERTSON w/TRAVIS THRASHER
When I first read about this book I quickly scanned the summary and thought it said the Robinson Crusoe family celebrations. But I am also familiar with the Robertson family as our friends love to watch their series.
We have viewed it for a few minutes at a time at their house as we don't get that channel. Sounded like a good read and was glad to get it to review.
Starts out with Stacey and she'd entered a contest to send her son to experience Christmas holidays with the Roboertson family. She can't believe she won the contest! Now to break it to Hunter, her son who's lately taken it upon himself to not follow the house rules any longer and has been caught with drugs...
Hope and pray and all she could do is thank God. Hunter arrives at the Robertson's and they make him feel at home but he's got a dark cloud over his head. So many lend him advice and some of it sinks in.
He does start to be like the others after a time. So many things happen to him along the way. Great idea of not only hear Hunter's side to what's going on but Korie's side to what's going on as well. It makes you feel like you are there.
Faith and hope and passages from others in the family preaching about the good Lord really fit into this novel. Glad I was able to read this book, shed a light on what the Duck Dynasty is all about-not what you see on TV.
Love all the 'firsts' he's able to experience that will last a lifetime. Family traditions, old and new are treasures.
Chapter headings have so much meaning! Mystery surrounding where Willie is during the whole book and what he's up to is funny.
Beautiful story! Glad I'm able to understand the family and what they are all about.
I received this book from The Book Club Network (bookfun.org) via Tyndale Publishers in exchange for my honest review.

I read The Robertson’s Family Christmas by Kay Robertson and Travis Thrasher. It was a great book! I have only watched Duck Dynasty a handful of times - not because I don’t enjoy it (I do), but because I don’t have time to watch TV really. I would rather read. This book was awesome. I felt as though I was seriously with them at their house. They talked the same way they do on the show and their morals and family traditions and values were the same as well.

I want to win a trip to go hang out with the clan. Not because of their fame, but because while this book kept me entertained, it also provided a much needed lesson in how to deal with teenagers. We have one and one on the way (middle school) with another child following and I want to take the example of Corie and Willie and implement the humor, laughter, fun times along with a no nonsense “tough love” approach that they lovingly refer to themselves with. Just sitting back as if a fly on the wall during the conversations had with Hunter, an outsider, was a great way for me to see if I could start implementing some of the same principles with my kids. In fact, I took it one step further and tried just one of the examples on our daughter and it worked! She laughed, I laughed, it diffused the situation but still got my point across. Win-win in my book.

This was a very entertaining with a deeper underlying message book - kind of like the Robertson family themselves. They love to laugh and have a great time while at the same time they are very serious about hard work, family values, and their faith. I absolutely loved the writing style, the book itself, and would love to read more from this terrific duo.

I received this book for free from Book Club Network in exchange for my honest review.

This story stayed true to the Robertson family values and traditions I've grown to know and love over the past few years. What a wonderful idea Miss Kay had for this story to invite someone into the Robertson family clan and their homes to experience firsthand all the love, the bearded men up close and personal, the traditions they all celebrate at Christmas as a family, the kidding around, the FOOD!! Plus the love of God and the lessons that can be learned in everything.
Hunter is a 17 year old boy that's mother enters him in the contest that lands him in Louisiana with the Robertson's for Christmas. He's not thrilled. He doesn't even know who they are at first. When Korie picks him up at the airport, he's quiet and reserved. Knows it's going to suck and not happy with his parents for sending him. He's not happy about anything, really...his parents are divorced, his star athlete brother got his dad, he's stuck with mom.
Korie sees it's going to be a challenge putting a smile on this kids face....
There's a lot in store for Hunter-between staying at Willie's, to duck hunting with the bearded brothers and Phil -to meeting a whole clan of Robertson's and cooking with Miss Kay, and seeing the fun and love that goes around between them all (and yes, all the joking and teasing that goes around too), Hunters moods go up and down as he struggles with the differences between his family and theirs, how welcome they make him feel when at home he feels left out and alone.
When first arriving, he wants nothing to do with preaching, the Bible, or church...or so he thought......but you'll begin to see God working in him and around him as this experience may be just what the Lord above ordered!

A Robertson Family Christmas by authors Miss Kay Robertson and Travis Thatcher is a small hardback book. This 321 page Christmas holiday novella is published by Tyndale. It is not a large print book but the type is not small. This sweet read would make a great gift for anyone and be good for a gift exchange.

It explores the possibility of being happy at Christmas even when feeling alone most of the time. The Robertson Family of Ducky Dynasty fame is the center of the book along with a boy name Hunter. He comes from a broken family and feels unconnected and lonely. After winning a holiday contest to spend Christmas with the Robertsons Hunter finds himself in the middle of a fun, loving, boisterous, God loving, Christian family. The authors' writing style is very nice and makes this book a quick, ways ready. At no point was I bored. It is a great holiday, family, Christian book. I one of my favorite smiles in the book is Uncle Willie singing Pharrell Williams' "Happy" on Christmas Day. Can't you just picture that?! One of my favorite heart warming parts is the line "God doesn't promise us an easy life. He does promise blessings, but we can't always imagine what they will be." How sweet and true.

This heartwarming, humorous, inspiring book is based on the Robertson family traditions at Christmas. The authors do such a good job in their writing you will feel right at home with the family smelling the yummy aromas from the kitchen, hearing the songs, and feeling the love. I thoroughly enjoyed it and rated it a 5 out of 5 stars. I would recommend it for anyone. I received a copy of this book from The Book Club Network for my honest review.

I loved reading this novella based on a real Duck Dynasty Christmas with the Robertson's. I know that this book was fiction but it had me feeling like I was celebrating with them. So much fun, laughter, and God's love show throughout this book and family.
Boy, Stacy Clarke had no idea how her and her son Hunter's life would change after winning the Golden Duck Call. A friend of Stacy's knew how much Hunter had closed himself off emotionally. She recommended a contest where one child is selected to have Christmas with the Robertson's. Never in her wildest dreams did she think Hunter would be chosen. He has been going through a lot since his parents divorce and is not at all excited about spending Christmas with a strange family hundreds of miles away.
Korie Robertson is determined to welcome Hunter into the family for Christmas. They are a wild and crazy bunch but she knows this is what God wants for Hunter and her family. At first he doesn't know how to take everything going on and just wants to fade into the woodwork. But God and the Robertson's have other plans for him. He begins to find that the family is full of love and laughter and maybe not so strange.
I loved everything about this book and all the wacky and crazy fun family traditions. I recommend this book to all that enjoy a great family read. You will be blessed.

Kay Robertson with Travis Thrasher combine to create a wonderful book "A Robertson Family Christmas." Being a fan of the "quacky" Robertson TV show, I enjoyed reading this book. The characters are themselves as they celebrate Christmas with the true meaning and heart of Christmas. Even with a guest in their home for Christmas, they don't try to hide or camouflage their faith. Each in their own way, walk the talk with their faith, talents, family, and lives. From the youngest to the oldest Robertson, you know God lives in their hearts. They don't look at themselves as more well off than others, only that God has blessed them.

It also wouldn't be the Robertson family without laughs along the way-- camo is camo, isn't it?

So, join the Robertson family as they have a special guest (Hunter) to celebrate Christmas with. Can Hunter survive Christmas with these backwoods people and can their influence be enough to help Hunter's outlook on his life?

The Book Club Network gave me this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

This is the first book I have read by anyone in the Robertson family and I enjoyed it very much. Kay Robertson has a talent for writing and even though it is a fictional story she includes true family traditions at Christmas time and their family 's faith and values that make you feel like this story is true. I have watched a number of the Duck Dynasty shows and love that their Christian faith is displayed in each episode. Love the family dinner and prayer time.
Unknown to Hunter his mother has entered his name in a contest and he won. The prize is to spend Christmas with the Duck Dynasty Robertson Family. Due to his mother and fathers divorce Hunter a teenager with a poor attitude does not want to go and spend Christmas with strangers. He does not know what to make of this unusual family. When he begins to realize this family is full of love for each other and others he lets down his defenses.
A great and inspiring story that shows how love, laughter, a families faith, God's plans and direction can make a change in Hunters life.

The novella, A Robertson Family Christmas, by Miss Kay Robertson and Travis Thatcher is a wonderfully uplifting and heart-warming story that focuses on a young man who feels alone and separated from any family. He lives with his mother after his parents’ divorce and has no close relationship with her or with his father and brother who live together. His mom hears about a contest in which the winner will spend Christmas with the duck-dynasty Robertson family in West Monroe, Louisiana. She feels led to enter the contest in order to somehow help her troubled son. Her entry wins their attention, and a reluctant Hunter is bound for Louisiana. Supposedly the Robertson Family is well-known, but Hunter has never heard of them nor does he care.

Can this experience change a lost, lone teen and make a difference in his life? Not only do readers get a delightful story but also they gain a bonus—a glimpse into the lives and the Christmas traditions of the Duck Commander family. This short, easy read is packed with family values, Biblical truth, and entertaining moments. I highly recommend this novella that I received through TBCN in exchange for an honest review.

This book was awesome.

This is about a boy who gets invited to visit the Robertson Family during Christmas. At first he does not want to spend Christmas with people he does not know but as he spends time with the family he learns what family means. He Learns a lot when he is there and makes some memories there that by the time he has to go back to his own family, he does not want to leave.

I had a really fun time reading this book. It has the families actual Christmas traditions and it was really fun. I felt that I was there with our main character as he goes about being with the family. I think it would be fun to meet the duck dynasty family.

This book made me laugh. I really like this family and to read a book by any one of them makes me happy because it is always a good time and I really enjoy them. They are a great family.

They are a close family and it shows even in the pages of this book. That is one of the reasons I like this family. They enjoy being together and share their faith with anyone, even in the pages of a fiction book.

This was a great book

I really enjoyed this story. It is a novella written by Miss Kay Robertson about a kid who wins a Christmas with the famous Robertson crew. He was having issues in his own family but he never expected to spend the holidays with a bunch of strangers. He wants nothing to do with the 'ways' of the Robertsons and he can't help but compare their family to his. The longer he is there the more you see the change.
I love the show but don't get to watch it as much as I would like. This story captures perfectly the interactions between the family. There is love, laughter, and God. I really enjoyed watching the change in Hunter as the story progressed. He has some pretty big problems to deal with but spending time with the Robertsons helps him.
It was a 5/5 for me.

Thank you to the publisher for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

This is a heartwarming tale told as only the sweetest and most patient woman of the Robertson Family that I've ever known could tell a story, even if I only "know" of her through what I read and what I see. My mother and my youngest son (9) are huge Duck Commander fans and follow every mention of this lovely family. The story is very well written and edited with a lovely message blended through the book. It's easy to recommend this book to every reader. More people should take a lesson from them. I received and ARC through Tyndale House Publishers in exchange for an honest review. This in NO way influenced my opinion.

A Robertson Family Christmas was an inspiring, enjoyable novella. It was an introduction to the family for me as I have never seen the show. I have heard many things about the family. This was able to put into words what I have heard about the family. The length they went to make a troubled teenager feel a part of their family was incredible. Not every family would go to the lengths they did! It was enjoyable to read how another family celebrates the holidays and keeps traditions a part of their family.

This was...interesting. I say this because it was a fictional story about nonfictional characters. Now, I've mentioned that I've never seen Duck Dynasty, but I was still able to enjoy this book. It was full of humor and heart.

In a way, was this just a grandmother bragging on her children and grandchildren? And I'm not saying that's a bad thing. But let's face it, when you keep saying all these things about how wonderful everyone is, well, you're their grandmother. You know them better than almost anyone. But that's also what made this fun to read, is that Miss Kay knows them and she knows what they're like behind the scenes, and she knows their humor.

This book made me laugh a lot. Seriously. The whole clan is so funny, and at times I forgot I was reading a fictional story. But it also gave an inside look to the family, and their holiday traditions, which was fun. (And a LOT. Oh my goodness, they have so many.) But this book was also heartfelt. The fictional part of it was about Hunter, a boy who comes to spend Christmas with the Robertsons and learn about their traditions.

The book isn't preachy, but speaks the simple truths that the Robertsons are famous for believing in. It's such a natural part of them. I do think that there are some things that might make more sense if you did watch the show, but nothing you couldn't understand if you've never seen it (like me). It made me feel like I got to know some of the Robertsons better. It was just an all-around fun and entertaining short story.

I received a copy from the publisher, this did not affect my honest opinion.

THIS is what I needed for a good Christmas read. It was definitely not any amazing piece of writing. But it was so warm and genuine, and the main character reminds me so much of my nephew. And it really felt like I got to spend some time with the Robertsons as a family, which was nice. As quick and as sentimental of a read as this was, it still had a powerful message of faith, family, and love (and ducks!) that really resonated with me, even amidst a simplistic and fluffy writing style.

Sidebar: Duck Dynasty wasn’t even mentioned once. The Robertsons are so much more than the show that made them a household name, but since I feel like the network has a tendency to hold that over them, it was so nice not to have the show present. Just the family.

My first book of the year and I read it so fast. I couldn't put it down. I even ended it with tears in my eyes.

This is not the normal Robertson Family book. You see the family through the eyes of a boy who won a contest that he didn't know he had entered thanks to his mother. He just plain out at the start doesn't want to be there. But slowly the family pulls him out of his shell and shows him what he has been missing or overlooking. This book is an amazing read and of course, is just like the TV show Duck Dynasty there is hunting, God, food and the craziness of the whole family. You find yourself laughing at some of the things that Willie says and does.

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. I love the Robertson family so I was really excited to find this book at a book sale. I thought it was a true story but when I found out it’s Christian fiction I almost passed on it. I’m so glad I didn’t because it’s always fun to read a book where you can actually picture the characters as real people. The writing style, especially the dialogue, was spot on for each of the Robertson family members. It was a really sweet and funny story that made you feel like you were right there celebrating Christmas with Miss Kay, Phil, Willie, Korie and all the others. I’m so glad I read this one!

I’m thankful for the review copy of a book that reminded me of a few movie classics A Christmas Story and National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. Both of these movies are hilarious and show the crazy side to family holiday get to-gethers so did this book.

Miss Kay says to readers, this book celebrates our true family holiday traditions while also imagining what a stranger might think of them. Especially if he had never heard of the Robertson’s. I hope you enjoy this story, ‘cause if there’s one thing we love in the south it’s a tall tale.

Stacy Clarke enters a contest for her son to win a trip to stay a few days in West Monroe during the holidays with the Robertson family. After she enters she things, .”.Loved the values the family had. She loved their beliefs. In a way they seemed naïve in this tough and hard world, but this family was tough and hard. She couldn’t get enough of the Robertson’s and Duck Commander.”

“She was amazed when she got the golden ticket in the mail. How would she break the news to her son Hunter who didn’t even know who the Robertson’s were; Stacy thought, He would definitely not be thankful. But then again, maybe any reaction from him would be better than what he’d become this past year she could hope; sometimes that’s all anybody could do hope and pray.

Hunter goes off to spend an unforgettable few days with the Robertson family. Since his parents got divorced the holidays weren’t much fun. How bad can this be he thought? This book would make a fun episode. This kind of reminds me of the one I watched where Sadie brings her boyfriend to meet the family and the grandfather takes him hunting. Hilarious!

Hunter first meets Korie and Willie and their children at the airport. They are kind and helpful. They know about him and he knows nothing about them. Why or why didn’t he google them when he had the chance? Hunter thinks, the frustrating part of life wasn’t the sadness he carried around like house keys in his pocket. It was standing at a closed door, knowing there was something better behind there and never, ever finding the right key to open it.

The Robertson family welcomes him with open arms. They even invite him to their duck hunting trip and all their other traditions of Christmas. Hunter wonders what’s up. He’s never seen people act like this. They were all smiling and he didn’t feel a need to smile. Not ever. But with all these people, he sort of felt like he needed to. They were paying attention to him. They genuinely seemed interested in him. And that just felt weird. He was totally ignored at his home.

Korie says to Willie, “Did you warn Hunter about all the things that were going to happen in the next few days?”

“This got Hunters attention”
“You ever see Christmas Vacation?”
“Yeah Hunter said.”
“Well, our home is a bit like that during the holidays. The wild family and the squirrels in the tree and the insane brother. We got all that. Has he met Uncle Si?”
“Not yet? Korie replied.”
Oh, Boy, you’re in for a treat. Willie said.
“You might want to warn him about Si, Korie told Willie.”
“Surprises make the world go round Korie”.
“We dont want to scare the kid for life.”

“Yes we do. Willie said. We want him to go back home clinging to his parents and begging them never to let him leave again”.

Hunter was clueless as to what happens when this bunch gets together to go hunting. I was rolling with laughter at that scene. Hilarious. What I loved most about this book was the interaction between Korrie, Willie and their children with Hunter. Willie is the character that livens things up. At the same time he is quick to get to the heart of the matter. This book will kick your spirit into the holiday mood and become a family favorite. Right up there with your other Christmas classics. The reason for the season shines through with love, laughter enjoyed with family all thankful for the birth of the Savior. This book is a keeper and would make a great gift!

Miss Kay Robertson has written a fictional account of a typical Christmas holiday for the famous family through the eyes of a troubled teen. Her book accomplishes one of the things I love most about fiction--getting a fly-on-the-wall view of a family thousands of people are coming to love because of their television presence. While the story may be the product of Miss Kay's fertile imagination, the setting, the typical Robertson quirky conversations, their everyday activities, and the Christmas traditions the family keeps are true to life.

From the book Jacket summary: "He misses being included in any guy trips since his parents divorced and he went to live with his mom. So he's less than happy when his mother tells him that he won a contest to spend Christmas in West Monroe, Louisiana, with a family named the Robertsons. For some reason, they're supposed to be a big deal. How did he win a contest he didn't enter? Besides, he's never heard of them and sure doesn't want to spend Christmas in a swamp with a bunch of strangers.

Korie Robertson is excited to open her heart and her home to Hunter and show him what the Christmas season looks like for the Robertson family. And like it or not, Hunter experiences it first hand. From duck hunting disasters with the bearded guys, to learning to cook with Miss Kay, Hunter quickly discovers what it's like to live with this boisterous, yet loving family. Putting on his headphones and ignoring them is not an option. Before long, Hunter begins to let his guard down. But with Christmas and the end of his trip fast approaching, will it be too little, too late? Or will Hunter be open to the greatest gift of all?"

For the few days of his visit, Hunter stayed with Willie and Korie Robertson and their children. He bunked down with John Luke, who was about his age, and went with them when they visited other family. He was like a thunder cloud flashing danger signals and raining on everything they did. They often didn't know how to read him; his lack of enthusiasm created some tension. Miss Kay wrote most of the story from Hunter's point of view and she nailed it completely, right down to his sarcastic responses when the family included him in their activities. It was obvious what he thought of the Robertsons, their huge family, their playfulness, their devotion to God, and life in general. Hopelessness dogged his very steps.

The author also wrote part of the tale from Korie Robertson's point of view. Hunter's darkness touched her deeply and she ached to draw him out of his shell. She hoped this visit with her garrulous family would attract his attention and change his perspective for the better. For awhile, it didn't look like that would happen. Korie needed to get input from Willie. Underneath that big old beard and silly grin was a wise man.

It goes without saying that this book includes the usual nonsense and shenanigans the Robertsons are known for. It begins with the duck hunting adventure and keeps up the pace right to the end. I enjoy redneck humor as much as anyone else does. For me, this was a fun book to read.

Second, there's wonderful truth tucked away in all the busyness and crazy stuff; Jesus Christ is in the center of Phil Robertson's entire family, because when young Phil had gotten lost in the tangle of a personal crisis, Jesus was there for him. God and his family became his bedrock. He, in turn, pointed the rest of the family to God's love and grace. It's what makes the Robertson family so special. Their lives are not about religion but about a personal relationship with Christ.

The third thing I loved about this book is that no one "preached" at Hunter during his visit...well, maybe there was a little bit from Phil. He couldn't help himself. But for the most part, the family allowed their lives to speak for them. They saw Hunter as he was and accepted him. It was the one thing that touched him most.

You don't have to be a fan of Duck Dynasty or the Robertson's to enjoy this book, however, viewers of the show will appreciate it more. It's a stand alone Christmas story with a lovely message even though there were times I wanted to shake Hunter because he comes off as a spoiled, entitled brat (he's really just a damaged kid but he is still annoying). Fast light read.

Stacy is at her wits end with her teenage son, Hunter. He is depressed, moody and an extremely unhappy person. She enters a contest where one lucky person will get to spend the holidays with the famous Robertson family of Duck Dynasty. She knows the chances are slim that her son will win, but when she receives word that indeed her son will be enjoying Christmas with The Robertson's , she can't believe it.

Hunter is not really thrilled with his new plans for Christmas, but off he goes on an adventure that will have a huge impact on his life. I loved the compassion and caring that the author wrote as Hunter was introduced to the family. I believe they are just like that if you meet them in person. The family is faith based and is willing to open their home and heart to a young man they don't know. He needs to see how a family cares about each other and guidance from some spiritual men. The Robertson men do a great job of including Hunter in activities and he starts to open up a little.

The story is well written and I felt like I was in Miss Kay's kitchen watching her cook as Phil is in the other room watching tv. I did get a chuckle when Willie kept disappearing without an explanation. What is Willie plotting? It has funny moments, serious moments and encouraging moments as the story unfolds. As Phil shared his story with Hunter, I could feel the depth of love Phil has for Jesus. Overall the story is one I would recommend for everyone to read . It is such an inspirational story to watch as Hunter experiences things like duck hunting and cooking for the first time. Does he finally fit in somewhere? Will his relationship with his mom change when he returns home? I enjoyed the traditions that were shared in the story, which gives readers a glimpse into the real life of the Robertsons. The presents Hunter gets from the Robertson's were very thoughtful and one will make a huge impact on his life.

Thank you for writing such a beautiful story of faith, family and love. It will be a treasure to read this story ever year to remind me of what Christmas is really about.

About the Book:

A nationwide contest gives a needy child the opportunity to spend Christmas with the Robertsons. A junior high kid from a poor family wins, and all things look wonderful--except for the fact that the boy is a complete terror. But he'll have to learn the hard way after the Robertsons get through with him.A heartwarming and hilarious story on the meaning of Christmas and what it's like to spend it with the Robertsons of Duck Commander.

My Review:

What would it be like to spend Christmas with one of the most popular families in the nation? Well Hunter Clarke's mother is about to sign Hunter up for a very rare treat when she enters him in a contest. A chance for her son to spend Christmas with the Robertson's. Little does he know what he will be in for this holiday season. Hunter is your typical teenage boy, basically nothing excites him and he just has an all over poor attitude. But not only will he get a peek into this great Christian family, this work of fiction gives us a glimpse into the Robertson family traditions that we all wouldn't mind partaking of.

Poor Hunter gets to experience something he is definitely not getting at home---a traditional family Christmas. I say this because he always feels left out among his own family, but as we all know life with the Robertson's is anything but dull. Korie made it her mission to include Hunter and make him feel like part of the family and by the end of the book, it seems she will get her wish. God can change anybody, is the message that the family tries to get this young man to understand. Hopefully, a Christmas visit with this wonderful family will be a turning point for this young man.
