Vickie writes full-time. But when she does take a break from banging out the next novel, she loves to get outside. Even though hanging out at the beach is at the top of her list, there's nothing quite like a long, soul-searching walk through the woods, daylight preferred, of course. This series is great! It has suspense, romance, and mysticism. The writing is smart and clean. I found humor in the dialogue. The characters are well developed and easy to like. The storyline follows Skye Cree, her husband, and the cast of friends and helpers she has united to help the police solve missing person cases. Skye uses her resources including her Native spirit guide to investigate and bring answers to cases that may have fallen through the cracks of the system
Skye Cree is relatively famous for finding missing women. She runs a charity organization for finding missing persons, and she's just returned home from her honeymoon. When she returns to her office, she finds a mountain of gifts from the public, congratulating her on her wedding and thanking her for her services. What she doesn't expect to find amongst those gifts are human remains addressed directly to her. It seems that this killer wants her attention especially, challenging her discover who they are and how to stop them. This novel follows Skye and her husband, Josh, as they struggle to find the killer before the body count climbs higher and higher.
When I'm reading mystery and/or crime novels, I tend to not care as much about reading the series in publication order. Usually those types of books can stand alone, since they aren't focused as much on the characters, but on the crime. The same was true here. I found it easy to get to know the characters, and some past events were subtlely explained in a way that didn't leave me questioning very much. Based on that, I had a pretty good first impression of this book. It wasn't confusing, and we dove right into the crime.
However, as the book went on, I started losing interest. Skye and Josh were interesting characters, but I didn't feel any special attachment to them. Because of that, most of my enjoyment came from the action, of which there wasn't very much until the very end. The story was told well, but I became tired of reading about the same sort of cycle over and over again. I wish there was something new thrown in there, or something especially suspenseful. I wanted to feel something more, and there was a sort of lack of emotion as I was reading.
Overall, this was a solid novel, but I didn't find it particularly good or enjoyable. I had a good first impression, but I grew tired of reading it since there wasn't that much exciting stuff happening until the very end. It was also pretty predictable, so I would've appreciated something unexpected happening somewhere in the stretch of boredom. I wouldn't dissuade you from reading it, but I think there are definitely better crime novels out there.
This is my 3rd Skye Cree mystery, and I admit, I really do like this character. Different from the run-of-the-mill sleuth. The stories are all well written and easy to read. I'm sure I will be reading more of these in the future.
I love Skye Cree and Josh Ander. I love how they adapt to change, how they fit so perfectly together, and how they connect through the wolf. This book was my favorite so far and really showcased how much Josh and Skye love and trust each other. Their opponent in this book was the sickest yet. The body count was higher than ever, the killer was stalking and taunting Skye, but she never quit looking for him. In the end, I love how Josh shows Skye that he believes in her and her capabilities. This series is very different from anything else I typically read, but I really enjoy it. Please read it in order to get the most from it.
A private citizen recently married was opening wedding presents when she noticed a strange looking box. The box did not have a return address on it. Yep just as the title of the book says "The Box of Bones".
You will to read the book to find out the answers. Great read.
This is a very well written story with Indian mysticism interwoven with finding a serial torturer and murderer who commits gruesome acts on women. I would however have liked to understand what made this man this way - his upbringing. The story left this string along with one other unfinished, which I suspect may be the lead in to the next?
I usually suck with reviews; however, I’ve reviewed every book Vickie has written except for the last skye cree books I’ve yet to read. This is because Vickie is just phenomenal! Absolutely freaking awesome! Haven’t read a book by her that I haven’t loved
I am certainly fortunate to have stumbled across this story. Delightfully different premise filled with edge of your seat moments. Highly recommended to those who enjoy suspense, thriller, mystery, and even a romance thrown in. This is all interwoven with Native American lore.
I love these books. Concise well written . Making you feel like they are part of your family
I would recommend this series of books. Because the characters are focused, more likable and learning more about her heritage being native American . I also am native American. Keep her coming.
Another new author for me. Really like this one too and I will read more of her books. First book I have read of Native Americans. Great story, very believable characters. Fast paced. Excellent.
Skye is at it again with her new husband. A serial killer is playing games, but it won't stop everyone from hunting down the killer. Lots of heart pounding suspense and thrills. I love the Skye Cree series and how bad ass Skye takes on the worst scum.
I enjoyed this book for the page-turning suspense, the otherworldly qualities of the main characters and the devious plot. Not howdy did this make my heart race.
The Skye series keep getting better and better. There's a lot of research that goes into writing a book with such technology and forensic science, but that's what makes it so good.
This series just keeps getting better and better. There is so much detail and I loved the relationship between the two main characters. Definitely one to read
