PERSONAL RESPONSE:
The book, The Nexus written by Kim Richardson, was by far my favorite book in the Mystic Series. I enjoyed the way the characters interacted throughout the story. I loved how they all cared for each other, especially Zoey and Tristin. They acted as if they didn’t know that they liked each other. I really enjoyed the suspenseful aspects of the story. The author did a very great job keeping me intrigued during the story and it made me not want to put the book down.

PLOT:
Ever since Zoey’s blood was used in the great junction she was considered a trader. Both worlds were about to end and Zoey felt as if it was up to her to save them. Mrs. Dupont was a crazy lady that thought the worlds would do better with the Great Junction. In reality the Great Junction was the whole reason the kids only had 12 hours to use the UEC's to blow up the huge portals. Zoey, Tristan, and Simon ended up getting captured while they were trying to get the UEC’s from an agent that stole them and took them into the Nexus. The three of them were taken to a creepy bone palace, where doctors with creepy faces were doing experiments. They were taken to a cell which was where Zoey met her mother for the first time. They ended up escaping and then Mrs. Dupont spotted them on the road that out of the city. Mrs. Dupont took them to the King of the Nexus. He insisted they had to fight all the hardest mystics in the world. If they survived they would get escorted to the portal and let go. They ended up winning, getting the UEC’s back and blowing up the portals. Zoey, Tristan, and Simon saved the worlds. Zoey and her mother lived happily together.

CHARACTERIZATION:
Zoey was the main character in the book. She was a very independant person. Zoey has bright red curly hair and pale skin. She was a great friend to Tristan and Simon. She was one of those delinquent children that didn’t ever listen. Except when she didn’t listen she always drags Simon and Tristan along with her. Tristan was the good looking boy which every girl wanted to be with. He was very buff. Tristan was special. He had a special power, half mystic and half human, which made him 100 times stronger. That helped in the battle in the Nexus. Simon was the brains of the group. He was the go to guy about any information about legal and illegal mystics. Simon was like a walking encyclopedia, and that helped the three amigos win all of the battle they were faced up against.

IMPACT of SETTING:
The story took place mostly in the Nexus. The Nexus was the second world that was connected to the normal world by portals. The Nexus housed the worst of the worst monsters and mystics. The Nexus was where all of the action took place in the story. The middle like ⅔ of the book took place within 12 hours of them being in the Nexus. The ending of the book took place at the Hive. The whole story took place during the summer months, around the 2000’s.

THEMATIC CONNECTION:
I believe that the theme that the author was trying to get across was everything happens for a reason. If it wasn’t for Mrs. Dupont using Zoey’s blood to open the portals then Zoey would not have ever found her mother. Every event that to0ok place in this book led up to the reunion of her and her mother.

RECOMMENDATION:
I would recommend this book to any teenage girl or boy between the ages 13 and 18. It was a very easy read, with not a lot of new vocabulary. The text was written in a way that was very easy to understand. The author made it very easy to relate and put yourself in the story with the characters. The story was filled with a lot of action and suspense which made it a fantastic read.

2.5 STARS

I felt as if I was coasting through this book. There wasn't much of a climax or suspenseful feeling you would usually feel in this genre. The ending was lackluster, and the relationship between Zoey and Tristan felt forced and unoriginal.

Richardson should have tried to place comic relief in other areas of the book beside Simon, because towards the end I was annoyed with his character and the many parrallells of him messing up was overplayed. With this being the last book of the trilogy I didn't feel anything for the characters or rooted for them.

Although the main characters are around 14 or 15, the writing was fairly juvenile, and the plot was paved slowly. To sum up this reveiw, the only reedeming attribute of this book and the series in general is the world building.

Although I didn't enjoy this book as much as I wished I did, I would still reccomend readers to give it a try.

The trio’s adventure continues in this final book with more action and facing with much more dangerous situation, venturing to the Nexus, a world where the mystics originated. Besides searching for Zoey’s mum, they also needed to close the portal that linked to earth, which would destroy both worlds.

Have to say I loved this whole series! Zoey and Tristan were cute, and Simon was funny! Simon’s character had me laughing out loud most the time, and even in a dire situation they faced, it helped lighten up the team’s mood.

The conclusion was as I predicted, but still a great one to wrap the whole series. Zoey and the team faced many obstacles, difficulties, and Zoey especially was wrongfully accused by many, but again, she came out to be their lifesaver in the end. A happy ending and clean-read as usual!

The third and last book in the Mystics series. The book starts of with Zoey and her friends Tristan and Simon going to the Nexus to close the portals and save Zoey's mother Elizabeth. The book has the journey of the three through the other world and the battles they face and overcome.

It was a total shocker for me to know that Nazar was Zoey's father. It seems like the author was rushing things towards the end as not many questions were answered and ideas were just randomly mixed up.

Overall, it was an okay series

2.5 again.
The books just haven't quite made it to 3 stars for me.
As always, there were things that bothered me. With this being at least the author's 6th book, I expected more. I expected more finesse, but I don't think Richardson can have spent enough time considering her novels and rate of publishing books seems to imply this as well.
In any case, I thought it was a fairly decent ending. I wish Zoey had been more pragmatic about finding Director Martin in the Nexus and the ending was a coincidence too far, but still: a 2.5 star series.

Thoroughly enjoyed all three & read all of them in a few days!

I liked the main characters from the beginning with all their foibles. Simon was quite irritating to start but I realised how integral he was to the three & made me laugh with his daft verbal diarrhoea. There were a few irritating moments but somehow it was OK so I didn't drop the rating for that. All in all reminded me a little of Harry Potter but in a good way.

The Nexus

Gave it a five star rating. Great story. Interesting turn of events Zoey found her mother, but also discovered who was her father. Interesting reading for young adults and adults.
