A man on the run. A gal protecting her family. Does love have a chance?
Alice and her thirteen-year-old brother are heading to Fort Macleod with their two young nieces expecting their older brother will provide them a home. When her younger brother is badly injured in an accident, Alice doesn't know how she can continue on her own.
Rudy Powers has never known a real home. Being alone suits him, making it easy to move on to greener pastures and the next adventure. But now he's on the run after witnessing a cold-blooded murder. On his way to Fort Macleod to seek the protection of the Mounties he comes across Alice and her brood. He needs to stay one step ahead of the killer to save himself, but he can't abandon them.
As they travel together his lonely heart yearns for the love she so easily dispenses to her family. She's everything he's never had. But being with her puts her life and the lives of the others in danger.
Though Rudy is appealing and caring, Alice knows not to expect more than temporary help from a hard-riding, itchy-footed cowboy on the run. But despite the danger surrounding him, she sees something in him that could break down her own barriers.
Can this way pair fight for the very things they secretly yearn for, or will Rudy's past threaten everything they've found?
Linda Ford grew up devouring books and making up stories in her head—often late at night when she couldn't sleep. But she hadn't planned to write. Instead, she dreamed of running an orphanage. In a way, that dream came true. She married, had four homemade children, adopted ten and lived (at times, endured) the dream.
Writing first took her to non-fiction human-interest articles for newspapers and eventually a non-fiction book about tuberculosis set in the 1930s and 1940s (Touched By The White Plague). But romance had always been her first love and she turned to writing love stories. She is multi-published in the CBA market.
She lives on a small ranch in Alberta, Canada, where she can see the mountains every day. She and her husband continue to enjoy their children and grandchildren.
Rudy finds Alice and two little girls and a young man in a coma. Running from a murderer he doesn’t want to commit to helping but sees no other way. He helps them get to the Fort where her older brother is supposed to be, but find him gone to the gold fields. As you can imagine, a relationship is developing but Rudy wants to protect her so he goes on a patrol but gets shot by someone else (horse thief likely?). Anyway read the ending for yourself.
This is my voluntary review of a free copy I got through a Sweet & Swoony Romance promo.
Fun story There was a bit if excitement and a bit of romance, but mostly a couple of young people growing up in their faith and learning to accept help from others... and trying to ignore their growing attachment to each other.
A young family moves west to join with the only family member left. This family is a woman with her two small nieces and younger brother. After losing both parents she and her brother live through the death of the older sister and brother in-law. Leave her with the young ones to care for. Praying for God's help, along the trail comes a stranger.
I highly recommend this author and her many books. At times I felt like it was watching a movie. The author Linda Ford writes so well that one feels your part of her characters and book.
running from a killer our hero comes across a COVERED WAGON WITH A FAMILY IN TROUBLE . HE KNOWS HE SHOULD KEEP GOING BUT CANNOT LEAVE THEM TO THEIR FATE. travel along with them to see what happens.
This was a very nice read. It was written by Linda Ford and written very well. This was an enjoyable read. I loved the characters and their strong personalities.
I don’t usually read old west type romance, but I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet book by Linda Ford. This is the first book I have read by her. The story moves quickly and is hard to put down. There is suspense throughout the book, with a small amount of romance and Christian themes. The main hero Rudy is a great man and I love how kind he is to Alice, Bo, and the girls. I will enjoy more of her books in the future.
