Sacred Fire, Holy Well: A Druid's Grimoire

Rate this book
Sacred Fire, Holy Well is an approach to a modern practice of Celtic Paganism and magical arts. Centered in the lore of the Gaelic Celts it offers a simple summary of Irish mythic lore, and ritual patterns for individual and group worship. I'm a Neopagan of the Druidic sort, interested in Celtic polytheism as it might manifest for modern people in North America. I'm also an occultist, broadly interested in arcane and magical systems and ideas, from medieval grimoires through Hindu Tantra and Asian shamanism to Thelema and Chaos Magic. I'm a fan of the folk music of the British Isles and its modern inheritors as well as of fantasy and horror lit, especially the work and legacy of HP Lovecraft.

Had some good stuff but ultimately had too many Irish Gaelic mistranslations, unattributed sourcing...... "the poets say" etc, and mixing between modern Wicca and what I thought would be more reconstructionist Irish druidry. We all draw from different paths but best to note where you're starting to outside the scope. I'm sure I'll still refer back to some sections, but I guess I was hoping for something different.

Excellent

Ian had succinctly expounded one of the greatest books of ancient Celtic pathways for the modern era. I have seen a lot of attempts at this fail. This man has triumphed in my opinion.

I really love this book. The kindle formatting is terrible, just every section shoved together with the next and no useful table of contents, no indexing to help find stuff. The hard copy is much easier to deal with in that regard. Unfortunately I leant my hardcopy out and it was lost in a black hole. The ADF core ritual is a little busy for me and there's too much to most of these rituals. The language is wonderful though and it's a complete system. One of my top druid books.

good book to learn of Celtic magic, but has rituals complicated and difficult to do alone, but the information is very good

Occupies a special place in my Druidry collection. One of the best practical works I've yet found.
