Before reading this series, I would have laughed out loud at the idea of a hockey-playing mafia romance. It sounds silly. But when you read it, it actually makes sense. Four of the main players are best friends and one of them is the son of the team’s owner, who is the head of the Marino Mafia. The other three pledge to join their bestie in the mafia family. By day, they play hockey. It’s still kind of silly, but it’s so fun I just rolled with it.
I liked this book so much because of Gage and Brooke. And the very clear trigger warning.
Gage and Brooke have a surprising amount of tastes and hobbies in common, and they have similar goals. I couldn’t really see them going the distance together.
I didn’t find the triggers too onerous, but if BDSM (d/s) bothers or triggers you, you might want to consider finding a different book. There is no cheating or SA.
Tropes include Medical, D/S, Hockey Star, Do-Si-Do with the Mafioso, Exhibitionism, Army Brat, Found Family.

Devious Lies is the fourth book in the Savannah Sharks Hockey and Mafia Series. Devious Lies is amazingly written, well balanced and beautifully executed by Jessica Long. Jessica Long continues to show what an incredible author she is with each book that I have read by her so far. Devious Lies has a marvelous plot, wonderful characters and a breathtaking outcome for the main characters. Devious Lies follows the journey of Brooke and Gage whom I found to be quite interesting and intriguing at the same time. The characters are well developed and beautifully executed throughout the story. I absolutely loved getting to know Brooke and Gage as well as witnessing their journey unfold throughout the book. I’m not sure what to think about how the book ended but I absolutely loved reading this book. I would absolutely give this book as a recommendation for anyone who loves reading sports and mafia romances. I can’t wait to read more amazing books from this author in the future.

Gage is an NHL player for the Savannah Sharks and a part-time henchman for Mafia don Arturo Marino. Brooke is a paramedic who meets Gage when she has to attend a community center where a shooting has occurred to help other paramedics with victims. Brooke is taking extra shifts to help save for a house, but her other team members get jealous, thinking she is getting favors for all the extra duties she gets rostered to do. She meets Gage again with one of the extra duties she's assigned, and they start seeing each other. She doesn't mind him being a hockey player, but she's not sure about his side job. Will his other job come between them or make them stronger? Jessica keeps you turning the pages with all the twists and turns you don't see coming.

Gage is a newer member of the mafia, meets paramedic Brooke at the shooting at the Community Center. He was the most recent hockey player added to Auturo Marino’s mafia. Little do the pair know they have similar tastes, and a whole lot of chemistry between them.

I love this series, while each couple’s story can be read as a standalone, the series is best read in order. This is a mafia story and there similar warnings that come with such, with graphic intimate scenes between the main characters. Looking forward to the next in this series.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. It is very engaging and keeps your interest. Gage and Brooke meet in the aftermath of the baby shower shooting. They end up meeting again and start a relationship that slowly draws her more into his world. I like that they share the same interests and become committed to each other. However Arturo's death may have opened a can of worms that will threaten everything. I look forward to finding out what happens next.

This was an epic book to read there was action, adventure, drama, danger, suspense, trauma, Mafia, kinks, pain, pleasure, shootings, and so much more emotions throughout including love. Brooke is a paramedic, that's when she met Gage she liked what she saw but not what happened. Gage is a hockey player and also works for Arturo where there is more action that it ends with a cliffhanger. I do highly recommend reading this book.

I love how Jessica Long is able to move the series long story arc for the mafia through the various books and characters. This is remarkably well done.

I feel bad for Gage being pulled into the mafia, and yet I love this chance he has to find love with Brooke.

I love Brooke's character as well. She's a perfect addition to this mafia family.

The action scenes are done well as well.

So overall, a fun read with the touch of suspense...

Welcome to the world of sports and mafia! There is so much going on in this story. Brooke and Gage are cute together – they have similar tastes and hobbies. Brooke is not afraid to get her hands dirty and is brought into the mafia world. Things take a turn for the worse and Arturo Marino has been killed, and Joey is set to take over. But as things spiral, who can be trusted?

Full of suspense, dangerous twists and turns, passion and chemistry.

Tensions run high in this book in the series. Hockey and mafia are two of my favorite things in books. Really enjoyed Gage and Brooks characters and relationship. Was a bit different than all the other books. Some twists in this book you don't see coming. Looking forward to reading what comes next
