Anne Frank is vooral bekend geworden door het dagboek dat zij bijhield in het Achterhuis. Wat veel mensen niet weten, is dat Anne ook korte verhalen schreef. ‘M’n pennekinderen’ noemt ze die in haar dagboek. De verhalen variëren van gebeurtenissen in het Achterhuis tot sprookjes over feeën en kabouters en herinneringen aan haar schooltijd. Anne begint zelfs aan een roman, waarin ze het levensverhaal van haar vader verwerkt.

Anne vond het jammer dat ze niet kon tekenen. Die taak hebben meer dan veertig topillustratoren uit de hele wereld op zich genomen. Bovendien gunnen ze ons een kijkje in hun belevingswereld en laten ons daarmee zien dat met creativiteit en inspiratie tegenslagen en obstakels kunnen worden overwonnen. Net als Anne, blijven zij geloven in een betere en vreedzame wereld. Deze unieke uitgave is een eerbetoon aan de talentvolle schrijfster Anne Frank.

Annelies Marie Frank was a German-born Jewish girl who kept a diary documenting her life in hiding amid Nazi persecution during the German occupation of the Netherlands. A celebrated diarist, Frank described everyday life from her family's hiding place in an Amsterdam attic. She gained fame posthumously and became one of the most-discussed Jewish victims of the Holocaust with the 1947 publication of The Diary of a Young Girl (originally Het Achterhuis in Dutch, lit. 'the back house'; English: The Secret Annex), which documents her life in hiding from 1942 to 1944. It is one of the world's best-known books and has been the basis for several plays and films.
Frank was born in Frankfurt, Germany, in 1929. In 1934, when she was four-and-a-half, Frank and her family moved to Amsterdam in the Netherlands after Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party gained control over Germany. By May 1940, the family was trapped in Amsterdam by the German occupation of the Netherlands. Frank lost her German citizenship in 1941 and became stateless. Despite spending most of her life in the Netherlands and being a de facto Dutch national, she never officially became a Dutch citizen. As persecutions of the Jewish population increased in July 1942, the family went into hiding in concealed rooms behind a bookcase in the building where Frank's father, Otto Frank, worked. The hiding place is notably referred to as the "secret annex". Until the family's arrest by the Gestapo on 4 August 1944, Frank kept and regularly wrote in a diary she had received as a birthday present in 1942.
Following their arrest, the Franks were transported to concentration camps. On 1 November 1944, Anne Frank and her sister, Margot, were transferred from Auschwitz to Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, where they died (presumably of typhus) a few months later. They were estimated by the Red Cross to have died in March, with Dutch authorities setting 31 March as the official date. Later research has alternatively suggested that they may have died in February or early March.
Otto, the only Holocaust survivor in the Frank family, returned to Amsterdam after World War II to find that Anne's diary had been saved by his secretaries, Miep Gies and Bep Voskuijl. Moved by his daughter's repeated wishes to be an author, Otto Frank published her diary in 1947. It was translated from its original Dutch version and first published in English in 1952 as The Diary of a Young Girl, and has since been translated into over 70 languages.

De illustraties zijn heel mooi de verhaaltjes zelf pakte me iets minder. De eerste 80 pagina's zijn verhalen die ook in het dagboek van Anne Frank staat en gezien ik dat net gelezen had was dat best een stuk herhaling. De nieuwe verhaaltjes deden het ook niet helemaal voor mij.

Anne Frank schreef 40 verhaaltjes en een aanzet tot een roman. 8 verhaaltjes hiervan zijn beschermd en daardoor is enkel een korte beschrijving ervan in deze hardcover opgenomen. Dit boek voelt niet echt als een verhalenbundel, maar eerder als een ode aan Anne Frank. Een ode aan de schrijfster die ze werd door haar schrijnende verhaal, maar ook een ode aan de schrijfster die ze niet kon worden net door haar schrijnende verhaal. Elk van haar eigen verhaaltjes zijn op een respectvolle, voor die illustrator typerende stijl geïllustreerd en ook elk achteraf gegaan door een blik op de wereld van toen en nu door de illustrator van dat verhaal. De wereld die nu heel plots aan het veranderen is en nog harder roept om het verleden niet opnieuw te laten gebeuren.
Dit is geen boek dat je in één keer leest. Dit is een boek dat je af en toe openslaat en waarvan je de kunst en het verhaal naar je toe laat komen met mondjesmaat. Wat je doet nadenken over de wereld. Toen en nu. Omdat Anne Frank dit verdient.

one of the most moving books I have ever read. Anne was a very talented child and my heart just aches for her and the life she was never allowed to live. her stories are bright and funny and she had an amazing imagination. The book is beautifully illustrated too. I think everyone should read it. especially world leaders who carelessly end the lives of children like Anne every day in futile wars.

Alleen al uit respect moet je dit boek 5 sterren geven.
Ik hoorde nog nooit over dit boek, ik zag het liggen in de bib ( kinderafdeling) en nam het mee.
Anne Frank schreef, naast haar wereldberoemde dagboek ook korte-verhalen.
De illustraties werden gedaan door tientallen illustratoren van over de hele wereld.
De moeite waard!
