Michelle Pillow is a superb and creative author. This was a fabulous series.
The problem I had with the first book was that I could not stand the heroine, Morrigan. She was obnoxious as heck, childish and annoying. You don't trash a man's house to make a point. Plus she was useless. This only served to make her more disagreeble.
I LOVE spirited, tough and assertive women in my fiction but this woman just came off as being a jerk. She made me like the hero more than I liked her. I felt he should have dumped her and moved the heck on. End of story.

THE BOOK WAS TERRIBLE. IF YOU LIKE THE COUPLE FIGHTING THE ENTIRE BOOK AND I DO MEAN THE ENTIRE BOOK AND GETTING TOGETHER FINALLY IN THE LAST 3 PAGES THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU THEN. I DON'T EXAGGERATE WHEN I SAY THE LAST THREE PAGES THEY MAKE UP AND FINALLY DECIDE THEY ARE GOING TO BE TOGETHER.

A very surprising book. I enjoyed it very much. Most alien romance books, at least the ones I've read, end up following the same plot. Alien dude kidnaps/saves or kidnaps/buys from somebody, a girl. And books usually focus a lot on the sex part of the relationship. This was different and refreshing. Even though the couple is married, the author comes up with a believable reason for the couple to get to know each other better before bringing sex into the relationship. I liked that a lot. Especially since there was lots of build up scenes and the author didn't disappoint when she finally delivered. I liked that Rigan wasn't annoying like some heroines in alien books. For the most part I think she held herself together pretty well. And I thought Ualan was super hot! I'm looking forward to reading about the rest of the prince brothers.

I really wanted to like the book based upon the premise, but I just ended up hating it. My main problem was the heroine, Morrigan, who is supposed to be a successful undercover reporter. This is the second book I have recently read where the author tries to make the heroine come off as smart and independent, but ends up failing miserably. Morrigan ends up coming across as immature, not smart, and childish. The way she treats the hero, Ualan, in some scenes is ridiculous. First, I do not believe at all she is a successful reporter. Morrigan decides to go undercover as a bride at Galaxy Brides, a company who provides brides to different planets. She signs a contract saying she is willing to marry someone, but then goes through the whole book saying she never planned to get married. All she was going to do was get her story and go home. What!?!?! There is no way the company would have let her do that.She signed a contract and is expected to honor it. Second, she reads none of the research she is given by Galaxy Brides on the journey over. However later she complains about how all the research she was given was inaccurate. I don't know how she would have known. Morrigan is also a character which is just too stupid to live(TSTL). There are numerous scenes where i just had to shake my head and wonder how she had made it through life. For example, Morrigan chooses to become Ualan's slave instead of his wife and is expected to clean. She has never cleaned before in her life. It is a sci-fi/futuristic novel, and has always used drones to do cleaning, but her attempts are just mind-boggling stupid. To clean the floors she pours a bunch of water in a bucket and adds soap and throws it on the floor. Nothing else, because she reasons the water will eventually dissolve. I guess maybe the author was trying to be funny, but I just ended up wishing she would grow up.I just couldn't deal with her and honestly couldn't understand why the hero liked her.

Morrigan Blake is a reporter who joins the Galaxy Brides to do a story. She has no intention to marry anybody. When Ualan sees her the crystal around his neck glows which means she is his mate. After the ceremony Morrigan tells Ualan that she has no intention of staying with him. Too late she realizes that according to Qurilixian law she is now married to Ualan. When he refuses to let her leave she declares herself a slave. Now Ualan has to treat her as such until Morrigan asks his parents to pardon her and remove her from slave status. Since Morrigan refuses to do so Ualan treats her as a slave would be treated. She has to clean his home and cook. The problem is that Morrigan has no idea how to do this since she always had robots doing that work for her.
This story had alot of sexual tension and good humour. It was nice to follow Morrigan and Ualan while the fought and eventually build a relationship.

To celebrate a decade of being published Ms Pillow has gone back to where it all began and has issued new anniversary editions of her famous Dragon Lords books. These expanded and slightly revised editions hopefully show the growth that the author has gone through and it's a wonderful experience for this reader as this story was the first I read by Ms Pillow and I absolutely adore the new cover artwork!
Morrigan is a reporter and she's desperate to find out the truth behind Galaxy Brides and whilst she's there hopefully get an interview with one of the secretive Draig princes but when Morrigan lands on Qurilixen and is chosen by Prince Ualan it's a whole new ball game. Morrigan hadn't really expected to get chosen and is utterly confused by their strange customs when it comes to marriage but one things certain this gorgeous hunk of manhood sure knows how to treat a woman right! Of course there's also the slight issue of him shifting forms to deal with but that's nothing compared to getting used to the strange and barbaric ways of the Draig. Add in that not everyone on the planet is happy about the all too human Brides and things are about to get very complicated indeed.
I loved this book when I first read it and I'm even more enamoured with this new improved and expanded version of it. I loved reading all those sexy scenes again and Ualan sure does pour on the charm , it's just a pity that his bride is so stubborn but it all adds to the fun. They share a very passionate connection but it' takes effort and honesty for their relationship to truly bloom . At times as a reader I wanted to bang their heads together but the pay off was so worth it. If you enjoy romance and a little sci fi thrown in then this book is a must read and I just love these Dragon Lords

What an frustrating book.. I almost ripped my hair out! If only the damn couple would communicate with each other better...xp Hope there's more books of Morrigan and Ualan :) Liked the side-kicks as well.

Look, I know that when I’m reading these cheesy romances, I shouldn’t expect poetic writing. But whatever style of romance you like, it surely doesn’t include the male protagonist threatening to commit domestic violence.
The following lines, for your perusal:
“Strange yellow ferns passed under her trampling feet as Ualan followed what could only roughly be referred to as a forest path… . A purple bird flew past her head, and she automatically tried to jump back out of its way. Ualan, misunderstanding her movements, clearly thought she tried to escape him. He gripped her tighter. “Ow,” she yelled at him. He only walked faster…
Coming to a clearing by a narrow stream, he finally released her hand. He spun around to glare at her. “What do you think you were doing?” “Me?” Morrigan gasped. She pulled her injured wrist to her waist. The beauty of their surroundings was lost on her. She only saw red. “If you ever try to humiliate me in public again, wife, I will break your neck, do you understand?” Ualan growled.
Don’t come at me and give me excuses such as: well that’s their culture” or “he didn’t really mean it; the author would never make him lay a hand on her”, etc. because that’s all that those are. Excuses. Excuses for domestic violence.
This isn't the first clue of a dysfunctional relationship. Earlier, during their 'choosing ceremony', it becomes crystal clear to the readers that Rigan has absolutely no clue the rules of the ceremony. Considering that in the ceremony, the males cannot speak too much, wouldn't it make sense that the Qurilixen grooms should pay really closeattention to their supposed wives? You know, to prevent something horrendous like rape? While Ualan's people have a very defined notion of what consent is, it is clear that Rigan does not know these rules. Ualan should have caught a clue sooner, and stopped the whole process. Despite the need for tradition, I don't think the world would have ended if he broke away from it to make sure his 'bride' understood the ramifications of the ceremony.
Some may say I’m taking this way to seriously, that it's just a light book. But I can’t really enjoy a so called ‘light’ book if they’re passing off abuse as ‘romantic’ and 'lighthearted', can I??
If it were possible, I’d give this zero stars

I Loved this book, bought it thinking it was a erotic book but it is more of a fantasy romance with some sex, As you can see from the description Women from Earth go thru a Bride service who says they will place them with a prince on a Planet far away, What they don't say is they are shapeshifters called Draig or dragons.. 7 feet tall. and hot.
They are born with a crystal that will match them with a soul mate so when Rigan goes to this planet to get a story since is a reporter she thinks she will attend the bridal festival and go home. But she gets chosen and makes the mistake of removing the mast from what she calls are barbarian cavement due to size and lack of technology.
When she removed the mask she has obligated her self to marriage. But fights it all along. She makes many mistakes the object of a traitor who is at war with the Draig. So she is could or could not die I will no tell you...
But she learns alot on this planet, about her self, this man she has married who she does not even know he is a prince, and more..
Great Alien fantasy there is no rape or abduction since these ladies are willing to these men.. So don't think this a book with either situation.

Not much in know about the Qurilixens, they are a viking like, male dominated race; however, journalist Morrigan is determined to get the story on their marriage practices; especially about their royal family who are rumoured to be taking a wife from the latest batch of mail order brides supplied by Galaxy Brides. Going undercover as a prospective wife, Morrigan never expects to be swept off by a handsome barbarian herself, especially when he starts calling her wife...
I loves me a cheesy sci-fi romance! They are an addiction for me, any story with a sexy alien getting it on with an unsuspecting Earth gal and I am on it.
The Barbarian Prince pretty much ticked all my boxes in the cheesy sci-fi romance department, big sexy warrior alien, check! Stubborn Earth female, check! Some hot and sexy lovin', check! I admit it only had a token plot, which didn't seem to add much to this story but which I think is probably more important to the next few books, but I was more focused on what Morrigan and Ualan would do next.
What stopped this book from getting anything higher than 3 was the constant Misunderstandings. This book relied on these throughout the whole book and I hate that, their whole marriage would have been sorted out if they have just had an honest and open conversation, which of course they don't till the last minute.
But, I did enjoy this, it made me laugh, it had some hot smexy times and I reckon I am going to like reading the other books in this series set in the vikingesque alien world of Qurilixen.

This chick worked my very last nerve. I can't handle stubborn to the point of stupidity and Morrigan has this down to perfection. She is one of the most annoying characters that I have come across. I actually felt sorry that Ualan's one chance at happiness is this bratty harpie. But the world created is interesting. Review to come.

Morrigan decided to make a name for herself and uncover the Galaxy Brides Corporation scheme that they were restoring female virginity so the women could then be traded to the aliens as brides. Because if she were able to prove this and break the story she would make a name for herself in the reporter field.
Prince Ualan just wants a bride and he thinks he's found his mate at the marriage festival. But Morrigan refuses to believe what is happening to her after her ride leaves her stranded.
Morrigan goes undercover at the marriage festival to get the story she thinks will make a name for herself. But for Ualan this is very real and he's very confused by her actions when he picks her to come to his tent and be his wife. The men think the women read up on their customs and have come there ready to be picked as brides so Ualan is very confused when she doesn't understand what to do in the tent and then the next day doesn't realize that he now thinks of her as his bride.
Once back at his home, she does everything she can think of to make him not like her so he'll send her back to Earth. But it backfires in a big way and she finds herself in a pickle of a predicament. I found some of the things she did really funny and the fact that Ualan found some of the things she did funny, made it funnier. There are so many times that they just needed to communicate better in order to clear up the miscommunication between them and that was a little irritating to watch. But they really cared for each other and while I loved the fact that he's a dragon shifter, I thought that didn't play as big a part in this story as I would have liked. I really wanted to see more dragon action, more dragons flying around or something more to do with the dragons but it just wasn't there.
I loved the Queen and how she came to the new brides to give them advice and how helpful and caring she was. She seemed to know exactly what to say to them to help them with their new husband's.
At times I thought they were going to work thinks out only for some other problem that they didn't talk out to come between them again and they would have to start all over again. Both Morrigan and Ualan felt hurt and betrayed at times because they refused to talk about what was bothering them. If she is such a good reporter she should have done more research on their customs before she got there so she would know what she was getting herself into. But overall I really enjoyed this book and plan on reading more of this series.

STORY:
I really struggle to rate this book. I like it, but the female lead did not make it pleasant at all. As much as I found myself on the fence, it still made me curious enough to want to read book 2.
I felt the beginning was drawn out of the with ceremony. It took too long, and I found myself losing interest. After the ceremony is when it got more annoying aka Morrigan annoying. The story was good but for a character to drop my rating/enjoyment low, she was that annoying. The one saving grace was Ualan’s patience and I think he was too patient.
CHEMISTRY:
Sexually, no complaints. That’s the only time I literally enjoyed Morrigan.
SECONDARY CHARACTERS:
I enjoyed meeting Ualan’s family. That is the major reason I am looking forward to at least trying book two and seeing if I want to continue.
OVERALL, like the story and Ualan but do not Morrigan at all.

I really struggle to rate this book. I like it, but the female lead did not make it pleasant at all. As much as I found myself on the fence, it still made me curious enough to want to read book 2.
I felt the beginning was drawn out of the with ceremony. It took too long, and I found myself losing interest. After the ceremony is when it got more annoying aka Morrigan annoying. The story was good but for a character to drop my rating/enjoyment low, she was that annoying. The one saving grace was Ualan’s patience and I think he was too patient.
CHEMISTRY:
Sexually, no complaints. That’s the only time I literally enjoyed Morrigan.
SECONDARY CHARACTERS:
I enjoyed meeting Ualan’s family. That is the major reason I am looking forward to at least trying book two and seeing if I want to continue.
OVERALL, like the story and Ualan but do not Morrigan at all.

March 30, 2016 - My taste in books has certainly changed since I first read this in 2011. I reduced this rating to 3 stars. The choking incident was waaaaay worrisome to me now, and the whip business was a total non-starter, too. I think this book is still a little too short, even though I am reading the revised/expanded version this time. There's just not enough world-building for me, although I know more if that comes in subsequent books (because I have read them).

I was expecting a totally different sort of book from the publisher's blurb; some sort of dark, maybe BDSM-ish book. That's not what this is at all.
This was a 'cute' story about a woman who is a workaholic reporter (with no 'life') and the handsome warrior whose life crystal 'chooses' her to be his one and only 'forever' mate.
Of course, she has no intention of giving up her job and staying with her 'new warrior husband'... it's all just a mistake, after all. Thereafter, there is all the tension one would expect from nthe heroine who is scared to fall in love and change her life, the hero who loves her in spite of himself, and several dramatic episodes of attacks, poisonings, etc.
There aren't many sex scenes, and it's all rather tame when they happen, but the tension between these two is great; something that only a skilled writer can really pull off, and this one seemed to do it (for me anyway).
This is story 1 about the Dragon Lords. They are four warrior princes who have found their life mates, but have varying problems with these new brides.
I highly advise starting at Book 1 because these characters are in each book... it's really just one concurrent story from each couple's POV.

So this is actually beyond bad, it was actually quite good, I disliked the heroine but could deal with her up until the scene where they spend the first night together and I was looking and getting the next book in the series so I can read it straight after this book but alas too soon!
First of all she is somehow roofied or something and basically teases her body and tries to use sexual tension to get her to 'bend to his will' and he actually continues to do this when the heroine (as annoying as she is!) actually uses her brain and talks her mind and disagrees with the Hero. You get a sense very early on with this hero that he's the boss and she must do as he says or he will force her, if she still refuses he will 'punish' her not always physical but emotionally abusing her. This is such a dysfunctional romance, if you can even call it that. Don't get me wrong I like the whole dislike or enemies to lovers etc. but not when the hero treats the heroine like a slave and seems to have no remorse whatsoever that he's actually hurting her and he wants this person to be his wife and have his children? Yeah I won't be finishing this.
Basically I would not recommend this. Also what is with these paranormal (shifter-based) romance books with BDSM ? Can't seem to escape them.

Rigan is an undercover reporter, possing as a potential bride for a Qurilixen male. Ualan is hopeful bridegroom who falls for Rigan at first sight. They are married by Qurilixen custom but Rigan is unaware. This sets up a light and quick romantic comedy. The characters are not too deep, here is no angst. I thought this was erotica, but there is not much sex. Rigan had a month to learn about Qurilixen but she missed the most important parts, like the marriage customs. Ualan didn't explain anything to her once he found out about her lack of knowledge. I liked Rigan's conflict, she liked her job traveling the galaxy and reporting but would have to give it up to be with Ualan because he was the future king and couldn't leave his planet. In the end she gave it up and I felt she let it go too easily.

For a 'star reporter' the heroine was pretty lame - not even doing the simplest research... Hero was more fun, but equally stubborn.

Ahh, this aggravated me. I do like the fact that the heroine was strong and would NOT change for anyone... even a hot guy. That's a plus. But damn... no smut until like 80% of the book. And there's strong then there's just stubborn -_-
And why? Why is it that couples never talk?! WHY?! lol. A lot of probs could be avoided had they just talked instead of ASSUMED. Well, guess it happens in real life too >_<

What, can I say? This book will definitely infuriate you but it is also a funny interesting take on Dragon shifters. I would have liked some more world building to be done. However, it was fun being able to read about the couples growing love. This shall be an interesting series.

A nicely written and fun science fiction steamy romance, starring alien male dragon shifters. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Mason Lloyd, so it was a fabulous job, as usual by him. Love his foreign voices, but I did giggle at the women's voices. If I had been reading this book, I probably would have given it 3 stars, because I liked it but didn't love it. The story was interesting, but the heroine was a pain.

Take a trip to space with Morrigan Blake. A reporter attempting to go undercover to investigate the sacred marriage traditions of the mysterious Qurilixen people. A primitive male dominate culture that resemble old Vikings and as a result are considered “caveman” or “barbarians.” Morrigan believes that the company Galaxy Brides which provides brides to these people, may be involved in unscrupulous behaviors, such as selling unwilling women into sexual slavery.
Morrigan signs up to be a bride in exchange for interviewing the other prospective brides and hoping to glimpse the secret marriage ceremonies to write a scandalous story. During the space trip over, she fails to read the information provided to her about the upcoming marriage ceremony because she reasons that she will not be getting married. Once she lands onsite, Morrigan accidently gets involved in the bridal choosing portion of the marriage ceremony and is selected by one of the Qurilixen male princes. The prince Ualan selects Morrigan during the ceremony as his crystal responds to her indicating she is his soul mate. The rest of the book is spent in constant turmoil as Ualan tries to convince Morrigan she is his wife and Morrigan does everything possible to avoid being the wife of a royal barbarian. She embarrasses herself and generally acts like a spoiled brat hoping that it will all work out in her favor.
Many people in their reviews do not like Morrigan and I understand why but I also see where the author was coming from. Morrigan is written to be defiant and stubborn to the point of stupidity but is this way to balance out the over dominant nature of her alpha husband. She’s supposed to represent a modern woman that won’t be subdued by a man that thinks she should be her ruler. She puts her career first and has not considered being anyone’s bride and does not want to settle down in the traditional sense. Even if Morrigan’s common sense borderlines on laughably bad it is her own personal preference if she doesn’t want to be Ualan’s wife. To her this whole adventure is just a job and she does not want to involve her life with someone who lives like a primitive caveman without the luxuries of Earth. Which is why she spends most of the book fighting him over everything. Ualan isn’t much better because he has very little control over his new bride to be and resorts to controlling and manipulative tactics to subdue Morrigan’s natural temperament. Both individuals must overcome their me first personality type to slowly understand each other.
Speaking of fighting. If you like a book where the main couple fights all the time due to miscommunications this book will appeal to you. As a result of all the fighting, there is very little erotic content in this book until near the end. Most of the book is one long tease where Morrigan or Ualan try to initiate sex and the other one denies them. Another downside to the book is the lack of involvement involving the dragon shifter nature of the Qurilixen men. This must be a core part of the book’s lore that grows over time and develops with each book. I would not mind reading another story in this series as long as each previously wedded couple doesn’t make unnecessary long appearances in the new stories.

What a great world Ms. Pillow has created with this new series The Dragon Lords! It is about four brothers, princes, and the trials and tribulations they encounter on their way to a happily ever after. All of the brothers meet their ‘life mates’ through a mail order type system where Earth women are invited to come to their planet which is mostly populated by men. There they participate in a ceremony where the men will or will not choose one of them for a bride.
The series starts with the oldest brother, Ualan of Draig and his lady love, Morrigan Blake. She is an undercover reporter just trying to get an insider look at the whole system and royal family when she gets chosen to be a mate of Ualan. Ualan chooses Rigan as his mate after his crystal glows when he first sees her. In his culture, the glowing crystal is proof that they have met their perfect mate.
I really enjoyed this book. Rigan and Ualan are so funny. They are constantly fighting and then making out and then fighting more. Rigan doesn’t understand the pull that she has to Ualan and he doesn’t want to share too much because he is afraid he will scare her off. I loved how they continue to dance around each other while their feelings grow over the course of a few weeks.
Pillow does a great job of describing the world Ualan lives on in subtle ways that help the reader keep a picture in their heads. I don’t read many books that take place on other planets so I enjoyed how seamlessly the descriptions were included so I never forgot that the book took place on a distant planet.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and I am very excited to read the rest of the series. All of the brothers and their wives are mentioned in this book so I think it will be interesting to go back and read the other stories from their perspective but over the same time period.

EROTIC, FUNNY SCI FI FANTASY ROMANCE!!
Barbarian Prince was a light hearted, funny at times Sci Fi/Fantasy. It was a bit erotic too. Morrigan is a reporter posing as a Galaxy Bride to get the inside scoop of the Royal Qurilixian Males and there breeding marriage ritual. She never believed in a million years she would be chosen to marry a Draig. Let alone Prince Ualan who one day would be King. Ulan is a Dragon Shifter Prince and eldest son heir to thrown. He has this crystal that lite up when he saw Morrigan, which means the gods have chosen her to be his wife. Morrigan has a different idea and doesn't agree to being married. The back and forth between the couple was funny and at the same time erotic. The Draigs had been at war with there enemies the Var, but these were suppose to be peaceful times. After several attempts to murder Morrigan and a few other Draigs and there wives, they finally realize there is a Var spy in there mist.
This was a entertaining story. I don't usually read Sci Fi/Fantasy. Just thought I would try something different. I Enjoyed it.

oK.I understand that some folks don't like listing things as BDSM because apparently that is very specific. However, perhaps it would be better to just list some of the things found in the book and let readers make their own decision.
This book contains, not just graphic sex, but:
- spanking, blindfolds, drugging
- use of whip
- hitting and bruising the main fem char by the main male char as punishment and in anger
- forced slavery or close to it of the main fem char
- main fem char forced to obey the main male char
Whatever you wish to call all that, I personally consider it to be light BDSM and find it to be
a turn off. Some of it, if it isn't BDSM is certainly borderline abuse.
As usual, I think a warning would be appropriate so that readers can make a choice. Maybe there ought to be a checklist. Due to not being able to tell what will be coming further from this author, I will likely not be reading any more of her books.

This book was like a horrible train wreck, I HATED Regan she was sooooooooooooooooOOOOOO HORRIBLE!!!! she is the WORST femal character in the history of me reading books!!! Gahhhh The Prince was so easy and put up with so much CRAP, but I understood him and his PAIN (in the A$$).. ohh my effing Gawd!!! I need two pain pills and a nap!! after this wreck!! I wont continue the story Gheeesh

Horrible. It could have been an OK book, even a good book, but it lacked 1) basic human decency, and 2) any continuity in character mindset.
