Not what I expected.

I was expecting to read about his research into the afterlife. What facts brought a doubter as he claims he was in 1999 to being a believer. This book is only full of the same descriptions of the afterlife as so many other books written on the topic. Actually he spent the majority of the book explaining what a medium is and trying to convince the reader to visit them to contact loved ones that have passed.

Easy, accessible and conversational in tone, this book represents the findings of a man who, formerly as a private investigator, approached the subject of the afterlife in an analytical, deductive manner. That I can relate to, much more than some of the more dramatic narratives I’ve read or heard before. So naturally, this book piqued my interest.

Intellectually, I know in order to enhance our knowledge of anything, we have to have an open and receptive mind and spirit. With me, I have a tendency to be open minded but closed spiritually.

Having read numerous investigative reports in my career, I understand the process of incremental data gathering, and about separating facts from opinions. Human nature is to jump straight to opinions in order to prevent ourselves from being manipulated. Oddly enough, in modern media, opinion is mostly what we get.

Olsen’s approach is to give you resources to investigate for yourself, and then he launches into a series of answers that reflect a synthesis of his own findings through having readings himself, and witnessing hundreds of others. So what you have here is a wide ranging number of individual experiences that he has pulled together to reveal his findings.

Now in an actual investigative report, you generally have 95% fact reporting, with very little devoted to findings, as it is imperative that the reader of the report is drawn naturally to his or her own conclusions. Olsen reports through his answers his own findings. That makes the book more interesting for certain, but it’s not chock full of facts from which you can draw your own conclusions. Granted the split is more like 10% facts and 90% conclusions, but it makes the book far more interesting to read. It also means, as he himself says, you have some of your own homework to do to come up with your own conclusions based upon your own independent investigative research.

That said, I have a tendency to find his findings pretty compelling, and also very validating, so I do plan on doing more independent research myself. This book definitely provided some fodder to help that process along. So I recommend this book to anyone interested in furthering their knowledge of their Spiritual journey

I really enjoyed this book. It was concise and informative, and quite nicely summarized a lot of other books, as well as answering some puzzling questions still hanging for me. As mentioned before, it could be a bit repetitive. It was almost as if the author knew when he was being repetitive, and copped a bit of a condescending tone in these sections - the reason for the missing star. Recommended for anyone searching for answers after a loss.

"A Great Exploration Of Another Dimension of Life"

What do we expect when we die? Is there really a heaven? A hell? These are questions we all ponder when death is near. This author has studied and researched for 15 years to reveal the mysteries of life after death. Energy is in our soul ... and energy never dies. Thus, believe that there is a different life we'll explore and be at peace. One thing we all must hold true: faith in the life hereafter. Highly recommend.

The selfish soul

This book outlines a soul philosophy that is ruthlessly selfish. All your soul wants is experiences and the spirit and body matter little in its quest to experience everything. There is no reward, no karma, so being a good human would serve little purpose in the grand scheme of the afterlife. Thoroughly depressing....I really hope a lot of this is not true.

Where is the proof?

Why didn't the author offer any proof in this book?! This seems to me an opinion piece. There is not one concrete piece of evidence of what he has written. What a waste of money. Don't bother!!!!!

The Go-To book to start your search on the Afterlife.

Personally, this book is where I started my search for the Afterlife after my mother’s death in 2022.
It gives an excellent introduction into the process of life, and the trials we must undertake.
I have seen the great benefits of a medium in assisting people in grief. One example was a lady who I was seated beside, who had lost her father and best friend within days.
The relief I saw for her was palpable.
I personally have also had that experience. One medium gave me a life-changing reading.
For those suffering loss, my experience is that should you need help, you will get it. That is, you will get a reading.
Your loved one will help you if they can.
So, I am now both a Spiritist (follower of Kardec - the Professor) and Spiritualist.
And this book was the real starting point.
God Bless.

A great and interesting insight into the author's perspective on what occurs after death. A worthy read and well investigated. I enjoyed it.

I liked the way he ended with humility, not imposing his views or values on us but encouraging us to enquire and fact check ourselves, so leaving the onus on us. He ended, as he had started: stating that we should not take his or anyone elses word on it, but instead, we should become our own afterlife investigators and draw our own conclusions afterwards based upon our own experiences. He added that if he managed to merely inspire us to do so, then his efforts in writing the book would have been successful. I give full credit to him for his efforts.

Very good summary of what other books have revealed about both our lives here and our "in-between" lives.
He draws from the many different types of experiences millions have had, including the NDE, SDE, ADC/IADC, PLR, LBL, and more.
Strident atheists/materialists will not agree with or like the answers given.
Neither will the close-minded and/or dogmatically religious.
And to be perfectly honest, while I accept the truths revealed in this book (based on the evidence), I am not happy with them. It all seems to be so much awful. My former ignorance, while uncomfortable for a curious mind like mine, was better than the knowledge I now have.

Thought provoking

Easy to understand. I was looking for a good first book to answer some questions on just what the hell we are doing here and what comes after. This can’t be it. Having lost some very special people at a young age, I’ve had some experiences as described in this book. It’s a validation and a message of hope. Life is to experience, good and bad. It’s what our soul wants and why we are born to this place. I’ll definitely look for more books on this topic and might get myself to a medium.

I just happened upon this book at the local library and checked it out, it's free, right? I could not put it down! I took it with me everywhere, reading in the most unusual places (while we were at a car dealer negotiating a deal, in the truck passenger seat, on the porch, while walking). It is thoughtful, well written, interesting, compelling, even life changing. It's one of those books where "right time-right place" is important, not everyone will like it or be in a place to receive its messages. It is more about living than dying and is full of life lessons...one of my favorites this year.

This book is an easy read and you can tell the author really did a great job and worked really hard compiling and researching information. I do not agree with the author in everything and I believe he sometimes comes to conclusions he has no right to claim, I think this book is a must read for all interested in afterlife.

Best intro book for reincarnation and after life investigation

Best intro book for reincarnation and after life investigation. Well written c good reference and link to other sites and information. I continue my research from here. Great job. It also dramatically reduced my fear of death both my own death and that of loved ones.

How does one rate a book that is just one man’s opinion on the essence of life. There were some thought provoking opinions and many shake my head thoughts. I guess I’ll invoke the thought out there that if it makes a loving, kind, charitable person then go for it especially if you are a hateful, nasty, selfish person otherwise.

A tone and writing style that is comfortable and warm - not lecturing. It offers a strong overview of a number of death and after death topics, while managing to convey an amazing depth information

This is a work that stands as a loving message to folks who have experienced loss, have fears of death, or just wonder about it all.

Afterlife

The book is ok and somewhat resourceful however the book is very repetitive to the point I Initially skipped the last 40 some pages but then decided to go back and read them the next night. Most of this information you can find anywhere on the Internet or YouTube.

While Olson is hardly a great writer, his research and suggestions for personal research into past lives, the afterlife, and connections with the deceased are intriguing and free of mystical overtones.

Very thought provoking

For anyone who ever asked themselves why is there so much suffering in this world. Or why do I have it so lucky, this is an awesome book. It makes sense of so many questions about life and love and suffering. I plan to read it again.

5+ stars… A MUST READ! Wow, this book covers so many books about the afterlife and nicely wrapped them all into one! Whether you have read many, like myself, or are just starting off, this is a wonderful book! The answers in Bob’s book are based on his personal experiences of 15 years of interviews, extensive research and speaking with thousands of mediums from all over the world. This is an excellent overview about life after death or the afterlife. I recommend this book and also recommend reading the books from his recommended sources, so that you can draw your own conclusions.

I really enjoyed this book! It is a must read for all my spiritual and open minded friends. I liked the way it was written: Question and Answer style, instead of many individual stories back to back. This book gave me peace within my heart, and I know that I will be with my mother and other family members who have passed away - someday when I cross over!

This book has made me reconsider my thoughts on the afterlife. I feel comforted since reading it in a way that I haven't felt in almost 2 years. I'm on a quest to learn more. If you've lost someone very close to you and are having a hard time believing you will ever see them again, I suggest you give it a try.
