Sea Change: an ocean urban fantasy

Rate this book
Dark clouds are on the horizon. I’m ready for the storm.

Life on land is better than ever. My debt is paid, I have a new cave and sweet ride, and my love life holds more promise than a chest of shipwrecked coins. But a tsunami of trouble is racing my way.

Swift, the new mer leader of my former underwater home at the Seamount, has big plans for us half-sirens, and it’s not hosting a seafood buffet. He’s afraid of secrets we might leak to humans. He’s not entirely wrong.

I became part of the problem when I rescued some half-sirens from the Seamount. That act of compassion led Swift to our shores, trailing an army in his wake. We must fight the fearmongering and hate for our right to live. Death isn’t the solution.

But the answer? That’s what I need to find before it’s too late.

Emma Shelford feels that life is only complete with healthy doses of magic, history, and science. Since these aren't often found in the same place, she created her own worlds where they happily coexist. If you catch her in person, she will eagerly discuss Lord of the Rings ad nauseam, why the ancient Sumerians are so cool, and the important role of phytoplankton in the ocean.

Emma is the author of the Nautilus Legends (a marine biologist discovers that mythical sea creatures are real), the Musings of Merlin Series (Merlin is immortal, forever young, and living in the modern day), and the Breenan Series (a young woman follows a mysterious stranger into an enchanting Otherworld).

Swift the new mer folk protector is determined to wipe the half-sirens from the face of the earth on land or sea. Half-sirens are arriving by the drove on land threatening the discovery of themselves and the Seamount to the dry folk. Keeping the Seamount from being discovered is paramount as well as protecting the new land half-sirens. Lune has ideas on how to help but doesn’t have the confidence in herself to back them up. Will she be able to overcome herself to defeat Swift’s army and save all the half-sirens or will she succumb to her feelings of inadequacy? Will she find a romance in the process?

Such a fantastic coming of age story. Enjoyed reading Lune’s struggles with herself and seeing her grow into her own. War, sex, love, betrayal and more! The epic battle was so hard to put down I ended up reading until 2 am! Love the character development and romantic overtures between Lune and Branc and the old love of Levi thrown into the mix as well. Great story about coming together with your chosen family. Being book 6 of the series it stood well on it’s own but I can’t wait to go back and start from the beginning.

There’s a new Mer Protector at Sea Mount who is even more fanatical and charismatic than the others. Now there are mers patrolling closer to shore and killing the refugees and other swimmers. Exciting ending to a great series. And a bonus epilogue too!

Footnote: 1) It wasn’t nice to steal some poor little girl's rainbow unicorn shirt.

Fave scenes: dressing for the gala, camp community, and Squirter’s battle help.
