Lynnie has become something the world has never seen, something she fears, something wild and as natural as death itself.
Searching for answers to what she is, Lynnie heads to the only woman she hopes will never lie to her. Finally content with what she has become, her instincts take over and she finds herself trapped in a situation that could not only expose her true nature, but turn deadly for the people she loves.
Her becoming was only the beginning of the story. This...this is where the action begins.
R.M. Gilmore is a paranormal and mystery/suspense writer and creator of the occult bestselling Dylan Hart series. She resides in the Pacific Northwest with her teenage minion, bearded man-child, and toys still in the box. With an awkward and incessant sense of humor, it is likely she will die laughing.
"Star-crossed lovers and dead things. It's what I do." - R.M. Gilmore
Amazing book. If it's been awhile since you have read Becoming - Lynnie Russell part 1, I recommend you re-read it first. With that said, I could no put this book down! RM kept me on my toes for the entire read.
Lynnie is still coming to terms with what she is now. She knows she is Cu Sidhe.
Nanny is her voice of reason, helping her understand. "You are not a monster, Lynn. You are a creature put on this Earth to keep balance." "You are not the beast. The beast is you."
Lynnie does come to terms with the beast. "I am Vengeance. I am Justice. I am Death. I am Cu Sidhe. I am the beast and the beast is me."
We also get to meet a new character named Puck. I am on the fence about him though. He says he wants to help Lynnie. But what's in it for him? Is he telling her the truth? With RM, you never know which way she will take this. I love how her stories aren't predictable and keep you guessing and second guessing yourself. And right when you think you have figured something out, BOOM, it's not what you expected at all!
It has been 2 years since I read the first instalment in Lynnie's story. There was a few details that were a little hazy so if you have read Becoming it might be a good idea to go back and give it a quick re-read before starting this. Let me just say again... it's been two years since I read Becoming so any emotional attachment I had with Lynnie was long gone and waiting to be rebuilt so when I straight up ugly cried just a few pages in I knew Gilmore had written a winner.
The Lynnie we find in this book isn't the same one we left in Becoming, sure it's only been a few days in Lynnie's timeline but she has changed so much. Finding out more about her beast, learning to live with it and trying to find a way to say goodbye to Rusty and finding a way to move forward with her fate.
I know this is just a novella and loads of people will bemoan the fact that it's such a quick read but that does not take away from the story. Gilmore has done an amazing job and has done Lynnies story proud.
Lynnie is back right where she left off. More than human and less than clear on what all that entails. She's accepted her fate but still fears herself and for the safety of those closest to her. When new players come out, Lynnie's confusion and uncertainty is only exasperated more. The repercussions of events out of her control sets off a chain of events she's been running from since the first moment of her becoming and hard choices must follow.
Absolutely 100% love love loved this book. The pace keeps steady and the story-line continues to be one that you haven't read anywhere else before.
If you haven't read the first book, Becoming, I suggest that you do. This will make no sense whatsoever otherwise.
Lynnie is alive and kicking in the next installment of Becoming....Existence by RM Gilmore. Why her? What is she? What is her purpose? These are just some of the thoughts running through her head as she tries to come to grips with what has happened to her. What she does know is that she doesn't want to hurt those closest to her and knows she can't continue to stay where she is. In Existence, Lynnie will learn more about her legacy from an unlikely "friend" and will have to decide does she leave or stay. By the end of this novella, the reader will have been so drawn into Lynnie that they can't help but wonder what is going to happen to her.
I never expected to be put through the emotional wringer reading a novella but Existence did just that. I laughed. I cheered. I ugly cried more than once and may have even called Ms. Gilmore a jerk for making me do so. What an awesome follow-up to Becoming and well worth the wait!
I received a free ecopy of this book for an honest review.
Existence is the second in the Lynnie Russell Trilogy and really should be read after Becoming, #1.
Lynnie is trying to deal with being the Ozarks Howler and what it means. She learns a few things from her Nana and a little more from Puck but there’s still a lot to learn.
Even though Existence is a novella it still made me cry a couple times. R.M. Gilmore does a good job and making the reader feel for Lynnie and all that she’s going through. I look forward to reading the third book in the trilogy. I can’t wait to see how it ends!
Wow. That is the main thing I can say about this installment of the Lynnie Russell Trilogy. This one sucked me in and took me on an emotional roller coaster but I couldn't put it down.
Brilliantly written, this book chronicles the second phase of Lynnie's journey. I couldn't help but think about how her journey correlates with the hero cycle... Yes my inner lit nerd was seriously enthralled with the story. The first book was Lynnie's call. She was thrown into a fantastical world that she had no clue existed. By the end of the first book she has realized that she can't resist fate but her journey is fall from over. This book continues the journey started in the first book. The next step in her journey is really the hardest. She has accepted what she has become but that acceptance comes at a price. I refuse to give anything away but I will say that if you are prone to crying--have a box of tissues ready.
One of the things I love about Gilmore's series is that they are never predictable. The minute you think you know where the story is going, there is a twist and everything changes. It definitely keeps the story from getting boring. I cannot wait to see how this one ends. Thankfully, the last installment will be out before too long. I will be waiting with my finger on the one-click button until then.
The 2nd Installment in the Lynnie Russell Trilogy, sees Lynnie coming to terms with her fate, and what she is, as well as finding out a lot more about the history and how she was destined to become Cu Sidhe.
This may just be a novella, but so many emotions are squeezed into it that you find yourself crying in several places! This is a fantastic follow on from Becoming, and I cannot wait to see what RM Gilmore has in store for Lynnie next!
What an awesome series. I feel so bad for Lynnie as she comes to terms with what she has become. She has to deal with loss. I cried for her. That is what warrants this book 5 ***** I love books that make me feel. Lynnie must deal with what she is and learn how to still be human.I loved how the author explained this new side of Lynnie/made it make sense. I can't wait to read the next one.
Lynnie is still trying to figure out herself and her beast. She has a lot of people who seem to be saying a lot of nothing, leaving her with even more questions. I can't wait to see what happens as she moves in with her life. Hurry up and write more R.M. Gilmore!
I haven't read anything quite like this series. The first book Becoming and this one have been a great journey. Being with lynn and accompanying her through her hard times and happy times has been a great treat. I can't wait to continue this story
A great sequel to book 1. The story became a bit more intense as we learned more about the characters & their trials. This takes us into a darker side of fae/shifter myth & delves into dark magic. I'll be grabbing book 3 to see what comes next.

I love this trilogy so far!! The second book answers many questions and we get to find out what Lynnie's purpose is. I'm already sitting on the edge of my seat waiting on book 3.
