There are many things I never thought I’d find myself behind; the barrel of a gun is one of them.

I feel the tingle, the rush, as it slithers down my skin. I feel the cold.
Too many deaths—one of them will be the death of me.

Julian is determined to make me pay for someone else’s sins. And I’m struggling not to succumb to his mercy, not to fall to my knees and beg.

But as my legs give in, as my muscles strain and my voice weakens, I keep the handle of my knife tight in my grip. My mother’s suffering collides with mine as I use my last breath to take away the ones who stole hers.

I keep fighting. I keep killing. I keep hoping.
Even when ghosts are the only company I have left.

Even when he’s the last thing I see.

I thought this Aurelia would be different. I loved her character so much. The badassery, the potential, all gone to waste for some body betrayal syndrome. You will not believe the amount of times I had the urge to teleport inside the book and shove some sense into her. She was supposed to be mad at Julian for distrusting her. She was supposed to be vengeful. But what she was, was a woman with intense body betrayal syndrome who doesn't have any original ideas and a dumb fucking brain. She caved in to both brothers and that's what annoyed me the most.

I don't care how you put it, the scene with her and Julian in Adrian's bedroom IS rape. That is literally what rape is. Her being wet and hot doesn't justify it. She was still screaming for him to stop but apparently he thinks letting her rot in his brother's bedroom would be revenge for her killing him (LMAOOOO). Julian is a mama's boy with anger management issues and major wannabe dark and powerful syndrome. I get that from his perspective, after everything his mom went through, it'd obviously be difficult for him to accept the reality but he clearly loved Aurelia since they were kids. She begged him to hear her out. Multiple times. And instead of taking her accusations into consideration, he was busy throwing tantrums while being a leader of a messed up secret society. And I've read dark books before too but the one thing the mmc never does is support that shit but here, Julian is literally the leader, regardless of his willingness and he didn't even do anything about it. The way he threw around the term 'human trafficking business' was quite disturbing. If he hated his dad's job and everything the Consortium represents, it'd make more sense for him to step up and dismantle the whole thing from the inside. But no, he's doing it all despite 'hating' the society and we're supposed to believe that he has some sense of moral compass.

What his mother did to Lucy in Chapter 15 should've literally been the first sign for him to piece the puzzles together but no. He was busy being a coward, feeling sorry for himself like a wuss. I refuse to believe he is the main male interest at this point. He sold her, allowed her to be raped, abused and what not. Disgusting, vile filthy psychopath. He literally sold her to teach a lesson! He is beyond redemption. He deserves to die in the final book. And don't even get me started on Lady Harrow. That bitch needs to be brutally tortured to death.

I was really shocked with Adrian's plot twist although I had a slight feeling beforehand (call it female intuition). I actually loved him since Book 1 as well and idk why but for some reason I preferred him over Julian since the beginning and I'm proven right. He isn't a saint by any means but is definitely the lesser of two evils and makes the most sense. But he's still not as intense, vengeful or dark as I hoped he'd be after all that his family did to him and Aurelia. He seemed a little weak somehow.

If Aurelia and Dante/Adrian isn't endgame, this entire trilogy won't make sense and will be the most weirdest book in history. Julian needs to be dealt with because there is no going back for him. This entire book was a rollercoaster, I'll give the author that but there were way better ways for the things to pan out. It was still very messy but if Adrian and Aurelia end up together, I'm happy. Any other ending would be nonsensical and take away all the essence of the story and characters. And what annoys me most is the villains keep winning and the supposed protagonists keep dying or get one upped. I mean c'mon. The whole thing seems to be getting so much worse. Aurelia becoming her mom and Julian becoming his dad. And poor Adrian.

Let's hope the last book will do some justice.

(I'm torn between giving this 3 or 4 stars and I originally settled for 4 but the ending gave me a whiplash and I am not happy with what the story is heading into so 3 stars it is.)

SCREAMING CRYING THROWING UP. I NEED THE NEXT BOOK 😭😭😭😭😭

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5, 🌶️🌶️

OMGG!!!!!!!
this book picks up right where goldsin leaves off & yes book 1 does have to be read first. This book isn’t a stand alone!

I had so many emotions reading this book and love where Aveline is going with this story.

So many people I wanted to come through the book and get my own revenge on!

Book 3 will be one of my most anticipated reads and I’m so excited to see how every thing is wrapped up!

HOLY. FKN. AIRBALL.

I thought book one had twists. Turns out, that was just a warm-up because Goldflame came swinging with a vengeance and I was absolutely not ready.

Let me give you a taste of what you’re in for:
✨ Revenge plot
✨ Dark romance
✨ Childhood best friends
✨ Secret societies
✨ Feminine rage
✨ Unaliver FMC
✨ Morally grey *everyone*

The writing style is sharp and easy to follow, but still packs a punch the kind where every sentence hits exactly where it hurts (in the best way). And as someone who thrives on mafia/dark vibes, this book fed me well.

The twists? Whiplash-inducing in the most addictive way. I genuinely had no idea what was coming next, and that unpredictability made the whole experience top tier. I think I cried twice in this, all the emotions just bubbling over!

And the ending? BRUTAL.
I’m not okay. I will not be okay.
But I will 100% be back for whatever chaos this series brings next.

I knew we were in for it after that cliffy in book 1, but DAMN. Book 2 is something else.

“𝚈𝚘𝚞’𝚕𝚕 𝚋𝚎 𝚜𝚊𝚏𝚎. 𝚈𝚘𝚞’𝚕𝚕 𝚋𝚎 𝚕𝚘𝚟𝚎𝚍. 𝚈𝚘𝚞’𝚕𝚕 𝚋𝚎 𝚏𝚛𝚎𝚎. 𝙸’𝚕𝚕 𝚖𝚊𝚔𝚎 𝚜𝚞𝚛𝚎 𝚘𝚏 𝚒𝚝, 𝙸 𝚙𝚛𝚘𝚖𝚒𝚜𝚎.”

“𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐚𝐦 𝐈 𝐛𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞?”

It’s more secrets, more betrayal, more lusting, more players, even bigger stakes and a goddamn ending that has me absolutely fuming.

I don’t think I’ve ever been so tightly wound up with rage for a fictional character then in this book.
There were several, and I mean several times reading this where I noted ‘that would be it for me’.
-but Aurelia goddamn Draven is one fictional, strong, FMC- bless her.

How! Why! My heart. 😭🖤

Enough emotional rambling— The writing in this book is again, evident proof of how well Aveline conveys stories. The way she can pull from the darkest recess of these tortured characters and put into words, in a way that makes you feel so much, think you understand where the story is going, then get smacked with another twist, is insane.

Thank you for the arc, another brilliant piece of Aurelia and the Harrows. I can’t wait to read how it all concludes in book 3 🖤

"i'm truly alone. adrift in a world of monsters wearing human faces, each one more cruel than the last."

I was definitely the target audience for this exhilarating dark romance, THE PLOT TWISTS KEPT TWISTING YOU GUYS. the way my jaw was permanently stuck to the floor through this entire book . An entire field of emotions, so much feminine rage.

The stakes could not have been higher, the betrayals, the scheming, the secret plays, I never saw what was coming and I couldn't believe where it went. When there are so many players in the game, so many secrets, and so many characters vying for power and a seat at the table, it's so hard to suss out the motives, hard to pinpoint the deception.

Aurelia is extremely resilient to have endured everything she went through, and resilience is a term lacking the true strength of her character, a complete understatement. This girl has been through hell and is currently still going through it.

AND THAT ENDING?! I was screaming. I'm not sure there's any possible way of coming back from this for one of the MMCs, at least I know I could never forgive him ( and I definitely have a favorite out of the two ) so excited to read the finale and see how this all wraps up!

Okay I could not sleep after reading this book.. in a bad way. I couldn't put it down then I can't stop thinking about how sad and hopeless this story has become.

The entire book is Julian becoming his father and Aurelia facing the exact same situation and abuse her mom did at the hands of Julian's father.

The "cliff hanger" is actually just the fact that there is no resolution. Everything goes from bad to worse.

Unfortunately I actually hate Julian now and don't think he could ever come back from the atrocities he's committed to Aurelia.
I read a ton of romance and dark romance but this seemed like a different level to me.
This MMC is now totally morally black- almost kills her himself multiple times, shoots her, breaks her bones, slits her throat, allows her to be sold to someone he thinks may rape, torture and kill her (and wants photos of her suffering)..and after everything he has done and allowed to be done to the FMC I don't even want them to be happy together in the end, there's nothing he could do to make up for what he's put her through.

I know romance can be about redemption but this is too much and Aurelia should not be with someone who shown such disregard for her life even if he's brainwashed or whatever, no excuses. I can only imagine the trauma someone would have after what Aurelia has been through and that's just not going to go away with an "I'm sorry" once he realizes how much he has messed up.

Hopefully now that I've written this review I can stop stressing about it and how Aurelia is ever going to be okay.

Will I read the next book? Yes. Unfortunately, I will and if the author finds some way to remedy their relationship in a way that has me rooting for Julian in the end then I will be extremely impressed. Until then, in my mind she's going to run away to another country and find someone who would never dream of harming a hair on her head and hopefully I'll be able to sleep at night.

4.75 ⭐️ If you haven’t read Goldsin, I highly recommend you read that asap so you’re ready for Goldflame.

I loved Goldsin so it’s only natural that Goldflame was no exception. I love a love triangle- if you will… I love fighting for love and I love love love a badass FMC who is (to a fault) not afraid. The twist and turns this story takes you on are worth the ride- maybe some whiplash- because men with power- but fear not… or maybe do fear, Aveline Knight will leave your jaw on the floor.
I was yearning for Aurelia and Julian to make a come back but that wasn’t the comeback we got! Just when you think happiness is around the corner, it breaks you. I was physically ill and devastated in Aveline Knight fashion, she broke us and walked away with the answers. I have no doubt that book 3 will be amazing. I just hope we get that closure we need!!

I love how to authors writing keeps you wanting more and you can’t put down the book.
This is a dark romance, with some heavy topics so please check your trigger warnings.

“You know she’s a killer. She’s done enough damage”.

“I had always admired you, even before our arrangement. Your resilience. Your intelligence. Your refusal to be diminished by the darkness surrounding you.”

Goldflame
Author: Adeline Knight

Omg this book!!!!! The highly anticipated sequel to Goldsin does not skip a beat. After that jaw-dropping ending in book one, Julian and Aurelia are at odds, each reeling from betrayal and heartbreak in their own brutal way. Convinced Aurelia lied to him, Julian is set on punishing her, and let me tell you… being in both of their minds is a dark, twisted treat. This installment is definitely darker than the first, and I was so here for it. My heart was racing the entire time. I need book three ASAP! Thank you Kylie and Aveline for blessing us with these!

ARC READ 4⭐️
holy shit! I was not expecting this at all when I started this series. It was a huge 180 from the last book. I was so obsessed withwith the relationship with Julian and Aurelia. Just to have me loving and wanting her with Adrian. I was so distraught last book and to find of he was still alive! I couldn’t even fathom! This book will put you on a ride but in the best way possible. Personally just like I told the author…I don’t know if i can forgive Julian after this! The ending had me gagged! Please let her and Adrian be endgame. I can’t handle more heartache

Ummm, excuse me Aveline....I'm going to need book 3 ASAP. After loving Goldsin, I was so excited to dive into Goldflame and I was shocked with some of the plot twists in here! Like jaw dropping, re-read some lines because I couldn't believe it shocked! I don't want to spoil anything by saying too much, but if you love the tropes below, then you need to read this series!

Be mindful of your TW, as this is darker than Goldsin but I absolutely devoured it so quickly.

What to expect:
🖤 Dark romance
🖤 Secret society
🖤 Childhood friends to enemies to lovers to..?
🖤 Revenge
🖤 Found family

Thank you so much to Aveline Knight for the ARC of this book!

I‘m not okay.
I finished Goldflame today, the second book of The Chrysophilist Trilogy. It’s a secret society, dark romance series and yes, you have to read it in order starting with Goldsin.

When I read the first book last year, I wasn’t completely happy with the book, but captivated by the storyline nonetheless. I think it was the author’s debut. I was very intrigued and wanted to know how the story continues.

And the wait was worth it, because WOW, the second book hits like a bolt of lightning. So many unexpected plot twists, an incredibly exciting story, and a truly nasty cliffhanger at the end. The author's stylistic development is also clearly noticeable.

Well, the book blew me away. And I already know that waiting for the final installment will be torture. I can highly recommend the series so far, but you should be aware that it's very dark. So please check the trigger warnings if you have to.

I can’t say anything about the plot without giving away spoilers. But trust me on this: it’s really worth reading!

HOLY FREAKIN CRAP!

♾️stars

First off thank you so so much for an ARC of this book, I read the first book as an Arc when it first came out and was immediately hooked so I was super grateful to get one for book two as well.

Aveline seriously outdid herself with this one, this was absolutely freaking insane! This book is for sure DARK! Way darker than the first and probably one of the darkest books I’ve read so far so please please check your triggers.

This picks up right where book 1 ends which I’m so thankful for and love when books do this so I’m not left having to fill in the gaps myself or waiting further in the book to figure out what happened. There were so many twists and turns I’m left so conflicted on who to trust and what to believe and my girl Aurelia just needs a fresh start because oh my GOD.

I can’t even form thoughts bc my mind is blown at everything that happened in this book I need book 3 so bad 😭

Holy fucking plot twists 🤯🤯 I swear by the time I picked my jaw up from the last twist, something else was knocking it back down.

I literally couldn’t stop reading this book. I was intrigued from the beginning and had to know how this all played out. I fear I cannot really say much of how I feel about it all or the characters without spoiling everything…. So just know…if you thought book one’s cliffhanger was bad, buckle the fuck up. 🫡🫡

Favorite moments:
“It’s strange how the worst kind of pain doesn’t show itself physically. This kind of pain is quiet. More insidious. It slips beneath your ribs and curls around your organs, making a home there.”

“How sick is it that I’d rather have his rage than his absence? That being his enemy is better than being nothing to him at all?”

“Missing her feels like withdrawal, my body craving what it knows it can’t have.”

Nah. I’m actually not okay😭
This book ruined me.

Julian??? That man is straight-up evil. Like idc how tragic his backstory is he SOLD her. He let some random man treat her like she was NOTHING He broke her finger!!! He threatened to fucking rape her. And then he SHOT her. I don’t care how obsessed he is (he’s not anymore ig)that’s not love that’s abuse!!

Meanwhile, Adrian?? Literal perfection💋The only one who truly cared about her. The way he protected her, the quiet strength, the loyalty?? I want to wrap him in bubble wrap and give him a nap.

This book had me full on spiraling. I couldn’t stop reading but also wanted to throw it across the room every 10 pages coz wtf😭I need Book 3 immediately so Aurelia can end Julian’s life and walk away like the bad bitch she is.

10/10 emotional damage. Would read again. Would scream louder.

It's appropriate to start by saying this will end in a PAINFUL cliffhanger.

We're reunited with Aurelia and Julian as they each grapple with harsh betrayals and jaw dropping secrets. There's this push and pull of light and dark, good and evil-- it's that "tale as old as time" dynamic all the way up until the final sentence.

I love a good dark romance that also packs chills and thrills. This book delivered both elements while also including the D R A M A we've come to expect when the Consortium is involved. I'm hungry for the third book already, because WOOWEE that ending hurt.

What an absolute rollercoaster ride this was and I loved every second. I went through the full gambit of emotions with this one and the reveals and surprises were incredible. I want to say I can’t believe we got left on the cliffhanger we were left on but I totally can. Eagerly awaiting the final book in the trilogy. Lorenzo might just be my fave in the whole series.

Thanks to Aveline Knight for the chance to read this one early in exchange of an honest review.

I don’t usually read dark romance books. I’m in the mood to read one or two a year… but this series has a really good plot and I wasn’t expecting a lot of it. I found myself caring more about the plot than the romance. I really wanted to know what happened next.

I get that Julian is going through a lot but everyone is. He sucks
